We hired Basement Masters to finish approximately 1250 unfinished square feet in our 5-year old home. We interviewed around 4 to 5 other contractors and no one was more organized or as thorough as Basement Masters. Unlike the other contractors we interviewed, Pavel was extremely thorough, well organized and understood the construction process inside and out. Pavel’s pricing model made it easy for us to understand our costs and where our money was going. Elena was helpful with the overall construction process, design selections, and coordination with suppliers. The craftsmanship Pavel’s team brought to the table during the construction process was top notch. His team and construction process includes higher end materials not found standard with many home builders today and it showed in the finished product. They answered every question in a timely manner, and ensured that every issue was addressed and resolved to our satisfaction. Our home was built by a large national builder and we had been through the construction process previously. We wanted to wait for a year to make sure the quality of Basement Masters work withstood the test of time, unlike the national builder. After a year every item in our basement looks and works like new. I just wish Basement Masters would have constructed my entire home! We couldn't be happier with how our basement remodel turned out and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

We could not be happier with our basement done by Basement Masters! The work was excellent! The process was seamless! It was clear from the beginning that they have been doing this for awhile-they had a process and system-so we felt at ease right away about choosing them. Though there was construction in our house, they did a great job of minimize the inconvenience of construction so it did not feel like a big burden at all! The company (and workers) were very professional; they accommodated our requests, schedules and any adjustments we needed. It's really beautiful. They did a super job. They are absolutely phenomenal. Just A across the board. We used them in 2015. It took them about 4 months to do it but they were just right on top of everything. They built a bathroom. They built a kitchen, beautiful flooring...you name it, they did it. I have my own apartment. It was pricey. It was almost $100000. But you got quality, responsiveness and reliability. It's gorgeous. It's just wonderful.

Basement Masters did a fantastic job for us. They started by walking through the basement with us and analyzing how it could be reconfigured to maximize use of the space. Then Pavel went through their very detailed price list to give us a precise estimate of the cost of the job, noting pricing that was variable based on our final selection of options. The detailed price list and plan for completing the various phases of the job gave us confidence that they knew what they were doing. The crews then marched through the job. Demolition followed by framing followed by electrical and plumbing followed by drywall, etc., etc. It was all planned out and executed very professionally. We had several questions and changes as the job proceeded and Basement Masters was very helpful and willing to make adjustments after clear discussion of price and our prior approval. The final product is beautiful and very functional. Elena, the interior designer, helped us make selections for paint colors and flooring that gave us a warm and inviting space. The trades teams were incredible - knowledgeable, neat and efficient. Most impressive was the demonstrated commitment to excellent work. Great Job!

They could have recommended very expensive fixes, but instead they recommended inexpensive one that we can do ourselves. They are very honest and trustworthy and i would strongly recommend them.

Ed was right on time and did a great job for us. While we loved the house, his very thorough inspection unearthed a host of current and potential problems that would have cost us tens of thousands of dollars. Other reviews talk about the care in his work and his timely reports so I'll just confirm - yes he takes pictures of everything and yes we had our report right away. I expect the same day or next morning delivery may not always be possible as he gets more popular. Atlas is frankly the best inspector I've seen and we'll be asking for Ed for ANY Virginia or DC inspection in the future.

Before the review, a short preamble. We have lived in our house for 21 years. It is a somewhat small 1950’s brick rambler with 3 bedrooms and 1 ¾ baths on the main level and had a fully unfinished basement having the same square footage as the main level below. We chose this house over several others, specifically because we intended to finish the basement “right away”, and even had a plan drawn up before we moved in. But finishing the basement never happened. Through two decades the plan went through many iterations. Many contractors took a look and gave us estimates. We de-scoped the plan, re-scoped the plan, had contractors lined up who pulled out, and in the interim focused on more straightforward home improvements. The unfinished basement loomed; to say there was a lot of emotional baggage tied up in the basement renovation would be an understatement. We came across Basement Masters (BM) via a web search for “finished basement MD”, that brought us to their online gallery. Our hopes were lifted as this seemed like the kind of company we had been looking for! We contacted Pavel, who came out and carefully and patiently walked us through their process with our plans and provided us our first estimate. We needed to take care of a few important issues first, starting with replacing original copper water pipes with PVC pipes (this was done to our satisfaction by one of BM’s subcontracting plumbers before the basement job actually started). Also looming was a ceiling clearance issue in the existing stairway, which required a variance from the county. Finally, there were two major water incursion issues that required coordination with a basement water mitigation specialist that Pavel recommended. We received a Christmas present from our county when they finally granted the variance in December 2015. Over a year had passed between our first meeting with Pavel and the notification from the county. When we met with Pavel again, he informed us that their prices had gone up, but he offered a discount if we could start within ~ 10 days of the meeting; an opening in their construction schedule had just come up. This was daunting, as we needed to get everything out of the basement in very short order. During the negotiations we added a bar to the plan; with the discount this was a very attractive option and ultimately become part of the final plan. The deal was sealed when Pavel graciously offered to have his crew move large and heavy items into our rented storage pod on the start day. When the team arrived they immediately got down to business and very carefully filled the pod with our belongings. They started framing that day. The basement was fully framed within about 4 days; the transformation was unbelievable. Water remediation of two areas in the basement, which was absolutely essential, was done in parallel, shortly after the framing was started. The water contractor recommended by Pavel did an excellent job. As the job progressed from framing, to plumbing, insulation, and drywall, we were impressed with BM’s attention to maintaining clear lines of communication and commitment to staying on schedule (the schedule was clearly articulated and fully considered and checked each week, very similar to scheduling protocols used in large-scale engineering projects). We also appreciated their attention to job-site tidiness; after each work day, they swept and removed the trash from the basement. The electrical subcontractor was superb and extremely pleasant to work with. He and his team took the time to clearly explain options for lighting, fixture placement, and data and home theater outlets, and were very responsive to our input and questions. The carpet installers were very competent and did a fine job. Finally, the finish painter was extremely meticulous and easy to work with; we are very pleased with his fine craftsmanship. There were only a few things we would have liked to have seen done differently. A large basement closet that contained stored clothing and other household items was left open (without protective plastic) for some period of time during the construction process and a large amount of construction dust made its way in. BM agreed to help clean this up and also compensated us for our time and effort. As we found out during the initial plumbing inspection, the bathroom vent solution (PVC pipe with stack) that was originally selected by BM turned out to be unnecessary. The venting was removed in favor of a Studor valve solution, but this left a hole in the exterior brick wall. BM did fill the hole and installed a cover over the hole on the exterior wall. Finally, while BM’s decor advisor was pleasant and easy to work with, and helped us through the process of making decisions, we could have benefited from a little more help in narrowing down choices for such a large space; many of the choices were time critical and at times we felt rushed. All things considered, however, these issues did not seriously detract from our overall positive experience. Basement Masters did a superb job, finished on time, and resolved all of our issues. Our finished basement is simply awesome thanks to Basement Masters, and we could not be happier with the result. We enjoy the transformed space every day.

I hired Basement Masters after interviewing multiple contractors for my project. From the moment I engaged with the owner (Pavel), I knew my search was over. His extreme organization, presentation and level of detail far exceeded my expectations. It was clear he understood his craft and customers' needs. I had a comprehensive written proposal complete with options, schedule and payment plans within a couple hours. This impressive responsiveness didn't end with the owner. We had our small, unfinished basement done with them, partitioning it into a living area, office, a new bathroom and utility area. Initial setup was an easy process, builders came on schedule and inspections passed off the bat. Although we opted for the basic options, the basement came out very nice and functional. The attention to detail is commendable and interacting with everyone involved was very pleasant. We've talked to other providers as well but Pavel gave us all of the necessary information we needed and more, which gave us the easy decision to go with them. Overall this decision was worth it.

Basement Masters recently performed a remodel on our basement and did an excellent job. Our split foyer home had a basement that was in desperate need of modernization and we needed more space for our growing family. They gutted our entire basement including the bathroom to provide us with a beautiful new space that meets all our needs. From the start they were the clear contractor of choice. We solicited about three bids, including Basement Masters, for the work that needed to be done. Of the three, it was clear that Basement Masters knew basement remodels inside and out. Their pricing was easy to understand, clear, and quite honestly a better value than the other two contractor bids. Pavel, the owner, was very knowledgeable with our questions and gave advice where solicited. Throughout the bid and initial scoping process I always felt his and his team’s desire to be honest and provide the best service and value possible. It seems to me they operate off of pride of doing a great job and satisfying the customer and the fact that they are being paid to do it is just a benefit. The team started on time and were always professional and respectful of our home and time. If there were any hiccups or questions the communication between myself and the project manager, Elena, or the construction team was always timely and all parties seeked to resolve the issue. I never felt we were being blamed or treated as if it was our problem and not theirs. And to clarify there were very little hiccups or issues. In fact we were blessed with a pretty smooth remodel. However, nothing is without a little bump or date push or whatever and anything like that was always handled well. It was our first major remodel and a significant amount of money to spend for us. We had huge concerns about the existing sump pump system and the Basement Masters team endured all our questions and concerns. They understood although it was common place to them, to us it was not. Again they always communicated and answered our questions around this issue. And I appreciate them putting us at ease as well as doing an outstanding job. In summary our basement has turned out beautifully. I honestly don’t think anyone could have done a better job and I would recommend Basement Masters 10 times out of 10 to any person looking for a contractor to remodel their basement. My only wish is they were the “masters” of everything, but I understand they are the Basement Masters because that is what they focus on and as such are able to really provide quality work and perform masterfully. I called this morning to schedule a consultation and receive an estimate for basement work that I need done. I have an unfinished room that is about 22x22 as well as the plumbing in place for a bathroom, but no bathroom. I was looking at having both of these finished off, installing the new bathroom, as well as having a custom bar built in to an area that is already finished within the basement. I was told that unless the whole basement was unfinished, they would not service me by Olga. This is ridiculous. I called because the reviews were outstanding, but apparently its either all or nothing.

It was truly a pleasure to work with this company. Pavel and Elena were outstanding to work with and ensured all aspects of this project were taken care of and our questions answered. Workers were always right on time, extremely neat and very polite. Work was estimated to take about 4 weeks to complete and they finished right on time...even after my wife and I made last min additions/changes. They even fixed our water heater when they notice a slight leak at no extra charge to us!! I strongly recommend this company for their high quality, amazing customer service and great value!! Couldn't be happier with our basement!!

At the first meeting, Pavel walked up to the door wearing a suit, and I assumed he was another sleazy salesman who didn't know anything trying to sell me stuff. However, Pavel turned out to be the owner and is a licensed contractor. I had 4 other estimates prior to this one, and Pavel was the only one who knew how to handle my insulation. I had a french drain installed months prior, and they left a vapor barrier on the walls with no insulation, which cannot be removed without voiding my warranty. Anyways, I had a pretty good idea what I wanted done to my basement, and Pavel gave some good ideas and options. I was expecting to only get a ballpark estimate, but we sat down and he showed me the itemized pricing list already printed out like a menu. This guy was organized and extremely thorough. Every little detail or option you could think of was available and had a price already quoted. The annoying part was everything had a price, so things added up very quickly. I had to go with a lot of the basic plain stuff to stay within my budget. I needed the job to be done within a couple months, and they were available right away with a discount, too. They guaranteed to be finished within 2 months, but they actually finished in only 1 month, but I let them work as late as they wanted and on weekends. After the contract signing, we had a pre-construction meeting and Pavel realized he forgot to charge me for a few things, so he generously gives them for free. Next, I was assigned one of the Elenas as my project manager (they have like 3 or 4 Elenas). She gave me a rough timeline of every step of the project, and she told me exactly when I would need to provide certain items like the sliding door, bathroom fan, light fixtures, toilet, sink, etc... I contacted her about all the issues, and she relayed to the appropriate people. She was very responsive and replied to my text messages fairly quickly at all hours of the day and on weekends. The work was good, but I didn't have anything too complex for them. I liked the quality of the Luxury Vinyl Planks, but their carpet choices were lacking. I got upgraded carpet on the stairs, but it still felt like the cheap stuff. Any issues I had, they either quickly resolved them or told me I would need to pay more money for them to fix it. For example, I noticed they didn't seal the hole they made around the exhaust vent and it was going to rain, so Elena came over within the hour and put blue painters tape around it before the storm came. But another example is after jacking up the concrete floor to move bathroom pipes around, they filled the hole back in with concrete but didn't smooth it out so there are bumps in the floor that feel like rocks under my rug. When I asked them to fix it, they said it would cost more money. They clogged my sink and cleaned their paint brushes in it. That couldn't be too good for my septic tank so I told them to stop using it. My drain still smells like paint. They made me replace my smoke detectors throughout the house with a specific kind so that I would pass inspection, but nobody ever checked. I feel like that was a waste of time and money. And, I know it probably sounds like I'm focusing on all the negatives, but if I didn't mention anything negative then people might think someone paid me to write a dishonest/fake review. Their work was good for the most part, and I would definitely recommend them to a friend. For their upfront pricing, organization and planning, quality and speed at which they worked, and the readily available open communication, their higher prices were definitely worth it.

Pavel?s first visit I went through what I thought would be the ideal layout, and he offered suggestions throughout the way. We then sat down and Pavel went through the most thorough and efficient presentation of their business model, pricing and the process. We always knew who was coming on which day (i.e. electrician/plumber/framers/painters, etc.). Price was transparent and I always had access to an up to date billing spreadsheet with deletions/additions from additional contract. Price list is clear and everything is by the book?so no surprises! We are nothing but thrilled with our basement and BM experience. Pavel and his team were outstanding from the first meeting through the completion of the project. We are absolutely thrilled with the results of their work. Prior to contacting Basement Masters, we had an architect draw up plans to help us work around some odd features of the existing basement layout. Pavel reviewed our draft plans and looked at the space and was immediately able to sit down and begin walking us through pricing. Basement Masters handles their bidding process on a fixed price basis, so we walked through exactly what we wanted and how much each part of the project would cost. Pavel was also able to give us specific pricing information for things that we were undecided about, such as door types to separate two of the rooms, flooring types, etc. By the end of our initial meeting, we had a very clear idea of how much the project would cost and the timeline to completion. We interviewed several other contractors, and nobody beat Basement Masters on price or timing to complete the project, so we decided to go ahead. Our projected timeline was 9 weeks to completion, and Pavel and his team immediately went to work. Throughout the process, Elena from Basement Masters kept us constantly updated on status as well as the progress that we could expect week to week. When changes to the schedule were necessary, Elena updated us promptly. Throughout the process we felt like we knew exactly what to expect. The workers themselves were excellent. We have an infant at home, so we had fairly strict requirements for what time workers could arrive and when they would need to be out. The Basement Masters team respected these requirements. In addition, when they were in our home, they were quiet (at least as quiet as one can expect during construction) and always cleaned up after themselves. During the process, we ran into an issue on our end when the bathroom vanity we ordered arrived broken. Basement Masters worked with us to deal with the issue and ultimately installed the vanity top twice (once with the broken version to make the bathroom usable and again when the replaecment arrived) at no extra cost. We also ran into a minor water issue that required some adjustments to the schedule, but Basement Masters didn't miss a beat. Ultimately, our project came in on time, on budget, and the quality of workmanship is outstanding. We recommend Basement Masters to anyone we know who wants to finish a basement. They do truly outstanding work.
