Doing this project with Basement Masters was actually a very enjoyable experience. I had a vague idea of what I wanted and Pavel Abaev was able to pick up on that and make it a reality. The first night he came out, it was after dark and our basement was so full of stuff that I was wondering if he would be able to figure out a floor plan. I had to shove boxes aside to show him where the rough-in for a toilet was. Interestingly enough, I had already had 2 other companies come out and the first thing those companies did was pull out their measuring tape and start figuring out how much to charge per square foot. Pavel didn?t even need a measuring tape ? he instantly knew the space to be finished was about 700 square feet. I was amazed. Then he looked at the toilet rough in and instantly knew it would have to be moved about 2 feet to make room for a shower and that he could fit a 5? X 3? shower into the space between the existing furnace and stairs. Mind you, there were boxes piled as high as my head and you had to squeeze sideways between my stuff. Pavel is so experienced with basements and their many idiosyncrasies that things I thought would be difficult, such as how to hide the furnace and get around random plumbing, were not obstacles at all for him. He already had an eye on where to put walls so that I would gain the most space while at the same time keep things aesthetically pleasing. After a good half-hour of listening to my inexperienced ramblings we went upstairs and Pavel pulled out a Welcome Brochure that is actually a booklet that contains everything you might ever want in your basement with a cost breakdown. Pavel pointed out the company?s credentials, license numbers, insurance policy, etc. ? everything you want a company to have but are generally afraid to ask. Pavel is very upfront with everything and I learned to trust him early into the project ? something I never felt I could do with previous projects or companies. Other companies suggest things that make it easier for them but may not be in your best interest. The total opposite is true of Pavel ? he brings up things you may not have thought of even though it will make more work for him and his crew, but knowing that if he didn?t bring it up you might later realize you should have done it that way and you wouldn?t be totally happy. As others have said, his crew and the people he orchestrates to do the tile, painting, flooring, granite, and carpet are all experts in their field and reliable. Even so, Pavel is constantly checking that they are doing perfect work and doing things in a world class manner. Even as picky as I am, Pavel was pickier and held the workers to a very high standard. Any basement that Basement Masters creates could go in the finest mansion- the work is that good. At the same time, Pavel?s price was the best out of the three companies I had come out. One company, also on Angie?s list, had never heard of LVT, and every time I brought up some of the things I had learned from Pavel, such as using soundproofing drywall and spray-foam insulation, the guy looked pained and said that would really run up the cost. With Basement Masters, it cost a little more but was still in the reasonable range. What I liked also with BM was that I could pay a little more and get the best, such as Benjamin Moore paint and the highest finishing grade on the drywall so I could use the eggshell finish I preferred. Just for a comparison, the other company wanted upwards of $75,000 to finish my basement on a comparable level. On the other hand, Basement Masters, even with all of my ?upgrades? such as full tile shower, frameless shower door, LVT flooring, level 5 finish on the drywall, spray-foam insulation, sound-proof ceiling drywall and Benjamin Moore paint, my total cost was $53,753. I could go on and on with how happy I am with my basement and how easy it was to work with Basement Masters. The only reason you should get other estimates is so that you feel great when you get Basement Masters?. The best part of the project is working with Pavel because he is always available, always gets you an answer right away, and you can trust him.

Everything was done with great professionalism and efficiency. Pavel and his team were excellent from start to finish. Incredibly professional, neat, and efficient. This was the biggest renovation we had ever undertaken and it was one of the best experiences.

Basement masters were well reviewed when i was researching for my basement contractor and they did not dissapoint. When you call the Basement Masters, Pavel will schedule a time to come out and evaluate your basement project. Depending on your needs you will have a very good idea of how much your project will cost as well as any add ons/options you have before the project begins. Pavel clearly has this down to a science so there are very few surprises. Pavel's crew started when they said they would and the project could not have gone any faster. The only thing that would have slowed them was me not able to make selections on items such as carpet/cabinets/paint colors. I did my best to stay on time. The crews cleaned up daily and kept everything clean. Pavel helped me with some ideas like a recessed ceiling, frameless glass shower, that I would not have considered otherwise. The moldings and finishes were amazing and really make the rooms. Basement masters appeared to me to be the lowest priced basement finisher when I was choosing a contractor, but the quality was second to none. Best price, project completed ahead of schedule and amazing quality. Pavel is a great project manager and stays on top of the projects phases and needs. Basement Masters built me the best basement money can buy. I'd recommend Pavel and his crew to anyone who is renovating their basement. The project management was superb, with great organization and execution of the plan. You've found the contractor who will turn your ideas into reality.

I am a trades contractor and have been in business for almost 40 years on the commercial side. I have seen great workmanship and I have seen poor workmanship, and everything in between. I had got 4 bids for my basement project and showed each contractor what I wanted and if they had any ideas how to make it better. Pavel solved some problem areas I had and eased my mind right away. I felt a comfort with the amount of knowledge he had and answered my every question or got right back to me with any product I wanted to use.His guys he uses are few and far between. I told my guys there spoiled and could take lessons from Pavels men. From the framing, to the electric, to the walls, painting and floors everything was exceptional. I watched his guys work a few times and they moved quickly but never compromised the quality of workmanship. The finished product was amazing for as many problem areas I had in this older house. Remember I have been around a long time and I am very meticulous when it comes to the finish product and have always taught my guys this. These Guys are the REAL DEAL and you wont find another company to refinish your basement any better. Now for the good part. Of the 4 contracts I received they were considerably less expensive. My wife thought they were all great guys. When she asked me why did I think they were so reasonable in there pricing, my comment to her was, they all know exactly what there job is and how to do it swiftly and precisely. OH and they work for 8 to 10 hours a day to get the job done unlike a lot of guys now a days. Pick these guys you will SMILE !

I cannot overstate how fantastic it was working with Pavel and Basement Masters. Our case was especially awkward as the work was being done in Ellicott City and I live in Coral Springs, Florida. During my visits to Maryland, I met with 9 contractors before deciding to go with Basement Masters. My daughter, son-in-law (at whose house the work was being done) and I were amazed at Pavel's honesty, patience, and insistence on quality without increasing his original price. The work is absolutely perfect. As you open the French doors to the bedroom, it is apparent that the work was completed by professionals. The walls are three different colors, the carpet and the LVT floors look fantastic. Here are some special reasons why I strongly recommend Basement Masters: 1. Pavel kept each of us (my daughter, son-in-law and me) informed on the week's schedule of work. 2. Regardless of the improvements, the price was never increased. For example, instead of an exhaust fan in the bathroom, they installed a combination, fan, light, and heater - without any cost increase. Similarly, they encased the basement window and installed blinds, again without any price increase. 3. It was clear that Pavel took pride in his work. 4. In order to select the LVT flooring, Pavel mailed to me (in Florida) the samples from which to select. He mailed them at his expense, and again did not add it to our final cost. 5. The vanity I purchased was extremely difficult to assemble. The correct parts were not included and it required a worker to buy some parts at Home Depot. Again, there was not increase in cost. I told my daughter we may have found one of the last honest contractors. I cannot imagine what more you could ask for in a contractor - honesty and top-notch quality. My only regret is that Pavel in is Maryland and not Florida!!

Upon beginning our process, we did something we rarely, if ever do. We went with the first andonly company we interviewed. This was not the case with Basement Masters. They not only started precisely on time, they finished aweek ahead of schedule. They worklong days to keep on schedule and even worked several evenings andweekends. Pavel was always accessible by text or email. He constantly kept us abreast of the schedule and who would be at our home and when.Any time there was a question, we could text or email him and he was quick to respond or let us know when he would be available to talk. When a couple of items came up that wewanted to add where their would be extra costs, he was always fair with hispricing. After many years, we finally decided to have a large portion of our basement finished with spray foam insulation behind the drywall and new fiberglass insulation in the storage areas. We really liked Basement Masters clear-cut method for providing estimates. We got an itemized basic cost and a booklet showing how much each extra item/change would cost beyond the basic project. Pavel knows what he's doing. The work started on the date he aid it would and finished before the estimated end date. Pavel always seemed to have the workers lined up so that there was never any "down time" when no one was there. He let us know when and what time a worker would be there and they showed up on time. Sometimes they worked until early evening and even on a couple of weekends. The workers really seemed to take pride in their work and even cleaned up the basement each evening when they were finished for the day. Pavel was reachable by text, email or phone all the time and responded within hours. If we had any concerns, he would send someone over the same day/evening! Everything went very smoothly and the finished job looks terrific!

Pavel responded the very day I sent an email requesting a quote, and two days later he arrived at my residence to measure, set up pricing, scheduling, and the like. Everything on the contract was crystal clear, the final price was exactly as stated (with a minor variance due to a vanity upgrade I selected). The job was initially set for six weeks, but took about three. Once Pavel's team and the subs get started, you just have to sit back and marvel and their speed and efficiency, coordinating the creation of the rough-in (I did not have one), studding the spaces, wiring/rewiring switches, outlets, and lights, installing the bathroom fixtures, mounting sheet-rock, bathroom vent fan, doors, and of course the drywall spackling and mudding. Since I'm on a tight budget I opted to paint the walls (and the cement floor) myself, should be done this weekend. The crew did a great job priming the walls. I will likely install some stick-on vinyl tiles at some point, but the space is for roommates, and they plan to buy large rugs. Though I was tempted when Pavel showed me his high-quality Pergo-like flooring samples ... they really looked beautiful. Maybe some day ... I'm very satisfied with the results, and also wish to give kudos to the many folks doing the work, as they were very professional and took great care of the spaces where they worked. Pavel was in constant contact, advising, coordinating the many facets of the jobs, selections of paint and tile for the bathroom, shower hardware, and letting me know how we were progressing (though I could tell by walking the area). You simply cannot go wrong contracting Basement Masters to add beauty and functionality to your basement space.

Basement Masters started work right on schedule, and they even finished one week early. They perform high quality work in a professional manner. The company is very customer service oriented. I was able to call or email the owner, Pavel, at any time, and he was always extremely responsive to my questions. Basement Masters has a set pricing structure so they are able to give you a fairly accurate cost estimate on the spot. The pricing is very reasonable. Our basement looks beautiful and now feels like an extension of our house rather than a basement.

Pavel was very responsive when I called to make an appointment. He may have come out the same day, I don't remember exactly. He looked at my basement, went very quickly through questions about what I wanted (in comparison to the other contractors who spent much more time asking detailed questions). He went through the checklist as other Angie's List members have described and gave me an estimate. The cost was a little high, but certainly within a reasonable range. In the end, I chose another company because I felt that he did not offer options or creative ideas. I have no reason to doubt the finished product would have been fine quality, but it would have been chosen within a range of a few standard options. This may be what some people want - an simple, easy solution - but it was not for me. I would recommend Basement Masters for anyone who wanted to do a remodel along standard lines.

From start to finish, this is how working with a contractor should be. We obtained quotes from 2 other contractors before decided to move forward with Pavel and Basement Masters. One of the other contractors was perfectly nice and provided a reasonable quote, but it was clear that basements were not their expertise. The other contractor must have upcharged every item by more than 200%, because the quote we obtained from them was outrageous. Pavel came by and had every detail down to a science, complete with a booklet outlining all of the options and precise costs. He also answered all of our questions in a thoughtful and meaningful way and gave us advice on how to improve the design and reduce costs. One thing we really appreciated is that Basement Masters not only offers a 10% discount to AngiesList members, but Pavel will round every number down when he applies the discount. It's little touches like that that make you feel like you're not being nickel and dimed. The construction process kicked off right when expected and finished about 2 weeks ahead of schedule. All along the way, Pavel communicated clearly as to what would happen next, let us know when we needed to take action or make a decision, and was always available via text and email to help with questions. The end result is a basement that hardly looks like a basement anymore. It is a bright, beautiful space. We are so pleased with the final result and would recommend Basement Masters to anyone looking for quality work done the right way at a reasonable price.

My parents and I decided to furnish the basement after it got flooded from drainage pipe line clogged by tree roots. We had an unfurnished basement with full of junks from the previous owner. Looking at the flooded basement alone gave us headaches. I researched the net for almost a day to find quality contractors. I contacted 3 contractors based on the review on Angie list and complain board. Through our conversations, i tried to estimate their experience, knowledge, reliability and work ethics. The very first one said he will pile all the junks in front of the house and we have to get rid of them by ourselves. In addition, we have to buy all the necessary supplies. The third one said he will give us the estimate a week later. ACH/Basement Masters' owner Mr. Pavel impressed me as a person who is very knowledgeable, knows how to apply his knowledge, has excellent organization skills and work ethics. Mr. Pavel gave me the estimate right away. He has a book with fixed rate for window, shower to kitchen. This way, I know for sure that his rate is pretty much constant for the same job for any customers. There is no overcharging one person or undercharging another person. After our meeting, I left Baltimore and left Mr. Pavel with my parents who have different tastes and opinions. Mr. Pavel accommodated my parents. I did not need to call my parents or Mr. Pavel to check on the progress. The whole project finished earlier than the scheduled time. My parents are very happy with the end result. The basement was furnished w/ living space, bed room and a bath, laundry room and the storage. During the renovation, Mr. Pavel's contractors were very quiet, respected my parents' privacy and cleaned up after themselves. I would highly recommend Basement Masters to any of my friends and relatives.

When initially calling the company, the automated prompt on the phone advises that any job they bid on will be a minimum of $12,000.00. After speaking with someone, I inquired as to what that meant. He advised that even if the job is under $12,000.00 (i.e. a small job) it will still be / cost $12,000.00. That is INSANE!. I read all the good reviews of this company, and have a job well under $12,000.00, but yet it will still cost me $12,000.00. Guess the "little man" and "small projects" aren't good enough for this company.

I contacted Basement Masters / ACH Group with reference to having a powder room installed in my basement. A year ago they did a complete refinish of my basement and it is amazing. I did not opt for a powder room at that time because I didn?t really need one. My son informed me that he was having surgery and needed to stay with me for at least a month before he could go home. Now I needed a powder room and I needed it installed in 8 days. I am on a septic and below grade so an injector pump was necessary. Pavel (project manager)came through for me and was able to do the project in the time allotted. The workmanship of the entire crew is very professional from start to finish. They clean up the jobsite each day and I never would have known they were working. I had gotten two other estimates and they were much higher. One wanted to install an upflush toilet which I didn?t think could handle the distance the water would flow. His estimate was $2000.00 more and the other contractor was $4000.00 more and could not promise the work to be done on time. When ever I needed to talk to Pavel, he always got back to me in minutes with all the answers. This renovation went so smoothly as did the complete refinish that I would highly recommend this company for any home improvement. This company is the best contracting company that I have ever hired to work in my home.

We contacted Basement Masters to finish our basement starting from cinder block. They quickly responded and we set an initial meeting. They were well organized and understood clearly in which direction we wanted to go. Throughout the renovation, Basement Masters management and employees were professional, timely and did fantastic work! The company looked out for our best interest with vendors and even resolved a plumbing issue that was not their responsibility (at no cost). I began the process of interviewing contractors starting in January of 2014. I had a good idea of what I wanted to do after looking at pictures online and research of basement-related issues. As the quotes started to pour in, I just wasn't satisfied with the level of detail. Every estimate was really wishy-washy with no fixed or guaranteed price, most of them were over $70,000. One contractor practically ran out of our house when I told him my total budget was $50,000 or less. When Pavel came to see us, I knew he was our guy. Although he seemed rushed, he took measurements, pulled out an uber-detailed pricing brochure, and we started to talk #s. He seemed very knowledgeable about basement-related construction issues. We were able to finalize the contract without too much hassle, and he was willing to work with me on the lien releases I wanted. As soon as construction started, it was smooth-sailing. Pavel is probably one of the best general contractors I've ever worked with on any of my homes. He was always available by text, email, and phone, and really kept us informed of the project plan. Pavel runs a tight ship. I can't say enough about his wonderful crew, and all of the subs he used. They were all fantastic, hard-working individuals who clearly take pride in their workmanship. Pavel finished almost three weeks ahead of schedule. Any issues we had, he fixed (or tried his best to fix). They even came back to install light fixtures when they finally came in after weeks on backorder. We now have a beautiful basement ---no ---a bright, beautiful living space. We first found out about Basement Masters by online search of contractors specializing in basement finishing. Then found they were listed in Angie's List, after we had called to set up an interview. We joined Angie's List as part of our research to read the reviews, which were all good. We checked Maryland Better Business Bureau and checked his MHIC license with Maryland DLLR and all checked out with no complaints and in good standing. Though I had a question about ACH which kept popping up in the searches (also in good standing) it was thoroughly explained to me by the energetic owner Pavel Abev that ACH was former company that had grown away from what he wanted the company focus to be and that is Basement Masters had to be the best at what they do. And they are very good. We had interviewed with perhaps a dozen contractors over the years before and a couple after meeting with Mr. Abev, the owner of Basement Masters. We can tell you that we liked Pavel right away as he was respectful by even removing his shoes when entering our home. He liked our dog too. After he presented his well organized menu/portfolio of a la carte services, walked through our basement I knew I could work with him because he brought good ideas in a well organized format and most importantly to me came in with high degree of enthusiasm that is required to get the job done. I want to point out the the process was not without friction for we all have that but its how you deal with it that counts. Sometimes the language barrier can get in the way too but in the end we always found a way to get through it and each party ended up meeting in the middle with great results. Pavel is a communicator and believes earlier and often communication is the key to keeping the stress to a minimum. We agree. When we asked Pavel for references they were provided right away. We we checked references local to our home we called 6, reached 3 right away, 2 called back and and we spoke to on one left us a voicemail. All spoke very highly of Basement Masters and willing to share their insights. My ending and overriding question, after a long list, was would you hire them back. All said "Yes!" Pavel and his Basement Masters team are all good at what they do and good to work with. Please understand that some have irregular hours which can be a bit of a challenge but if you can work within those constraints the end results are in your favor. The delivered a wonderful product and finished up before schedule by a week. Though we had a small problem shortly after Pavel sent in his A Team and fixed it right away to our satisfaction. Pavel and Basement Master live up to their integrity.

After deciding to finish the basement, we interviewed five contractors. Most of the contractors came with a tape measure and took some notes and promised to get back with us. Almost all of the contractors came back with a lump sum quotes with very little breakout. We were more interested in line item costs so we could add or delete per our budget. The communication between Pavel and us was fantastic! He must sleep with the phone tied to his ear. Responses to our question and concerns were always within minutes. Construction began exactly on the appointed day and the workers were very experienced and excellent workers. They encouraged us to make changes as we saw fit and willingly made the changes. At the end of each day the work area was swept clean and all tools were piled neatly out of the way. A refreshing change from other construction projects we had undertaken. All during the construction Pavel talked to us and offered suggestions on how to make things better and for a better price. John and George, the onsite mechanics, worked with the utmost concern to detail and precision with all the trim and cabinet work. The electrician and painter and drywall people also exhibited the same concern for a perfect finished product. During the entire project Pavel continued to be onsite reviewing the work and answering our questions and concerns. Payment for the project was staggered to coincide with the work progress, a helpful alternative to lump sum payments. We are extremely happy with the end result and even happier that we chose Pavel and his team at Basement Masters.

We have been talking about finishing our basement for a couple of years now. All we had were concrete walls and a concrete floor. We would go down there and look around and draw out our ideas. The construction started on time. Although I was nervous, I felt at ease knowing I made the right choice. When I saw the framing, I was already amazed. Then the electrical work, insulation and dry wall was done and I saw our dream of a finished basement coming true. The Basement Masters crew was great. The electrician was very detailed and so was the painter. Everyone was so friendly. My basement looks amazing. I still look at it and cannot believe how it used to look compared to now. Pavel?s communication was great. Whether it was by phone, email or text, he always responded right away. My husband and I spend a great deal of time in Maryland at my daughter?s house with her, our son-in-law, and our grandson. Little did I know that my choice of a contractor would turn out to be the single most important factor in determining the outcome of my renovation. I began my online search for a contractor in the Maryland area through the Houzz app. I chose five contractors based their exemplary reviews from former clients. I met with each one of them and obtained estimates for the basement renovation. The estimate I got from Basement Masters was the most reasonable, however, my decision to use them was not based on that alone. I chose Basement Masters because when I met Pavel, he didn?t just ?yes? me to death. He really listened to my ideas for the basement, and thoughtfully offered his expertise and guidance when necessary. I thought I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted, but I learned that there were numerous details to be discussed and decisions to be made as the work proceeded. In retrospect, I realize that my original plan was really very vague and without Pavel?s knowledge, support, and guidance, I would have been totally lost. The location of the renovation presented an unusual challenge. I was not going to be on site for a majority of the time. Pavel and I kept in very close contact through calling and texting. I knew that I could text him at any time and receive a response from him immediately. I was always able to reach him directly within seconds. Once the work began, I did not anticipate the possibility that I might change my mind about decisions I had made. However, when that did happen, Pavel not only tolerated my questions and indecisiveness; he actually encouraged me to consider and explore all of the options available. He often sent me pictures or websites that had examples of materials for me to consider. For example, in an effort to save money, we were going to keep the original laminate flooring in the majority of the basement and install a different flooring in an area that was being torn up to remove an unwanted bar. Midway through the reno, we decided to replace the entire floor. I?m sure it threw off his entire crew?s work schedule. He was extremely flexible and it was never a problem for him to change the original plans to accommodate us. And the finished floor is spectacular! Pavel was on site on a regular basis to see that every aspect of the reno was being addressed properly, from paint to electric to finishes. He takes obvious pride in his work. His attention to detail is phenomenal. I absolutely love the custom work on the cabinets, the kitchen island that he designed, the wainscoting throughout the main living space, and the millwork surrounding the fireplace. I am, undeniably, a perfectionist. Fortunately for me, Pavel shares my passion for perfection. I am thrilled with the renovation! It is exquisitely beautiful and exceptionally functional! I would not change a thing. It surpasses anything that I could ever have imagined. We will enjoy this space for many, many years to come. I am certain that if I had not chosen Basement Masters and Pavel had not been my contractor, the result would have been very different. Pavel is the ultimate professional. We were introduced to Basement Masters (formerly ACH Group) in 2012. The wife and I were interested in finishing our basement and we contacted Basement Masters primarily because of the glowing Angie?s List reviews. After contacting Basement Masters, the owner (Pavel) inspected our basement, presented us with an impressive array of possibilities and suggested that we check his references. We were sold on the spot but prudence dictated that we obtain additional estimates and check out the references. Soon after we decided on using Basement Masters but before they started the work, we noticed substantial cracks in our basement walls and we put the basement finishing project on hold. Although Basement Masters did not repair the cracks in the basement wall, they were instrumental in helping to identify a specialist to help us get this work done. After the cracks were fixed, Basement Masters was in their busy season and the work did not start until December 2013. Our overall customer experience once the work began was amazing and the most remarkable part was that Basement Masters honored the 2012 prices although the price quoted in 2012 had already expired and construction costs had significantly increased. We are picky customers and Basement Masters understood that and reacted accordingly. For example, after Basement Masters framed the bathroom, we wished for a bigger bathroom and despite the work that had already been done, Basement Masters re-framed the bathroom and made it larger without any additional charges. Also, our basement had numerous ill-placed pipes and gadgets and Basement Masters expertly designed the corresponding bulk-heads into elegant and inconspicuous solution(s). Other examples of them willing to work with picky customers is that when we decided to use our wholesale buying club for the kitchenette cabinets instead of using Basement Master?s recommended supplier, Basement Masters did not rush us or our decisions although it costed the project extra weeks of time. Also, when the granite wholesaler tried to sell the unique granite top that we had placed on hold to another customer who was willing to acquire a bigger selection of granite then we were buying, Basement Master went to bat for us with the granite wholesaler and the granite wholesaler eventually relented and gave us the granite that we had placed on hold. Although it took us longer to complete our basement based on our need to first resolve issues with the cracks and our overall pickiness, the final results were amazing and we are extremely pleased with the outcome. Even our neighbors and friends have remarked on the craftsmanship and high quality of our basement. We give Pavel and the Basement Masters crew outstanding marks for price, quality, professionalism and customer experience and we are confident that if you select them that you will have a similar experience.

We were very pleased with Basement Master's completion of our basement finishing project. They used quality materials and their workmanship was flawless. Pavel suggested alternate solutions to mitigate building challenges and stayed on budget throughout the project. During the initial estimate meeting, we were given a brochure that included pricing for everything we wanted done in the basement. We were provided a contract with all the items we wanted included and priced. We were allowed to lower costs by purchasing materials, cabinets, and fixtures with gift cards and a military discount. The project was completed a week ahead of schedule and our concerns were quickly addressed and resolved throughout the project. Overall the work exceeded our expectations and the contractors were polite and professional.
