We had considered getting our basement finished for many years, but just couldn?t seem to find a contactor we were comfortable with to do the job. While searching on Houzz, we stumbled across Basement Masters, and after reading the reviews on several sites and viewing their work online, we decided to request an online quote via their website. The price was attractive, and we liked that everything was itemized in detail. We then scheduled the in-home consultation, which was conducted by the owner, Pavel Abaev. Pavel quickly surveyed the space to assess the work to be done, but having read previous reviews we were not put off by this. Pavel absolutely knows his business and is committed to making sure his customers are satisfied. He went through the detailed offer list with us and we selected the desired options. After final agreement, his team promptly provided a schedule and responsibility list. Other contractors came in, and without taking any measurements or providing any plans or details of what they would accomplish, gave quotes that were almost double that of Basement Masters. As promised, our basement was completed in about nine weeks, and that included a major change we requested towards the middle of the project and delays due to a huge snow storm. Pavel has assembled a team of employees and contractors who are highly skilled and committed to good customer service. Being very picky, we were impressed with their attention to detail, especially the tile work, drywall finishing and painting. In addition, any questions or concerns that we had were promptly answered and resolved to our satisfaction by Pavel. The workers arrived as scheduled and throughout the project, kept the space and yard free of debris. Also Basement Masters was willing to accommodate any changes we had as the project progressed. With their itemized pricing, we were never surprised by any additional costs and we also were able to save on a couple of items by sourcing ourselves. Overall, we are very pleased with their work and have received many compliments on our new basement. We would definitely recommend talking to Basement Masters if you are considering finishing your basement.

Pavel and his team took my dream design and with some adjustments and turned it into a beautiful living and work space ? my wife and I could not be happier. During the first conversation with Pavel it was clear Basement Masters was a credible and reliable business, not just another contractor looking for a quick turnaround to make the next dollar. The telling moment was the fact that Pavel said they would not do the job without ALL permits and inspections. The others I had in my house each tried to dissuade me from getting the permits/inspections due to ??resulting delays?? if you get that kind of a reply run away and straight to Basement Masters. Don?t be fooled by their youth this is a team of master craftsmen each one with a set of skills that are to say the very least very impressive. Pavel has a scheduling system that surpasses anything I ever saw in the military and executes it on time and on budget. One of the aspects of the job I was very impressed with was their willingness to work with me on ideas and show me where they had a better concept and it all worked out to my liking. John, Jim, George, Victor, Andre, Elena M., and Elena A. were a real pleasure to work with and were courteous and always on time. If a particular task required extra time to complete this crew was more than willing to put in the hours even on Friday evenings and weekends. Jim a master carpenter tackled a task with material (faux staked stone panels) he had never worked with before and turned a plain looking fireplace wall into an unbelievably realistic looking stone structure, it was fun and educational watching this master craftsman work. The ?tile-guy? did an outstanding job with a tricky tub surround design I threw at him and it looks fantastic! A friendly word of advice: don?t do what I did ? thought I could save money by working directly with Home Depot to purchase some of the materials, bath fixtures, lighting, etc. ? what a headache it turned out to be (for a variety of reasons) and actually resulted in throwing a wrench in the schedule. Save yourself the hassle and let Pavel?s team handle the ordering ? you just have to look at the catalogues and samples then make your picks ? they will do the rest. If there is something special you want Elena will be glad to help you. My only criticism is that a couple of times we had to clean up after the half-hearted sloppy attempts by the insulation and drywall finishing crews. Bottom Line: Basement Masters is the only team you need to call for your first basement project or remodel.

Basement Masters earns all "A's" from us for their awesome basement design and construction, and we were surely the ?customers from h***??nitpicky, indecisive, leery of trusting our old home to strangers. But Basement Masters quickly earned our trust as we got familiar with their small teams of carpenters, plumbers, drywall finishers, electricians and painters. We were impressed that most of their teams had been working together for years, and it showed in their teamwork. Our project raced from design to completion in just over 6 weeks, yet no aspect of the project felt rushed, no shortcuts were taken, and they responded quickly to our questions, ideas, concerns and sudden schedule changes. We have never had a contractor who breezed through every permit inspections like Basement Masters. Their professionalism really shined in their attention to detail and cost consciousness. We searched high and low for the right contractor, interviewed many, and, now that the beautiful job is finished, we are happy we picked Basement Masters. From the very first meeting, we were impressed with Pavel?s (owner) knowledge, project management process, transparent pricing, and plan for staying in constant communication with us throughout the project. His team continued to impress us throughout the two month project. We would recommend Basement Masters to anyone looking to remodel their basement and only wish that they did more than just basements. Pros: - Basement Masters has the most professional team of employees and subcontractors that we have ever worked with. Everyone was knowledgeable about their craft, polite, accommodating to our needs and always cleaned up after themselves. - The plan that we drew up to completely renovate our basement was collaborative, but I have confidence that if we had not come to the table with concrete ideas of what we wanted to do, Pavel would have designed something equally ideal. We liked that he was willing to allow us to leave one room partially unfinished (but to-code) so we could build it into a media room at a later date. - They arrived early and stayed later than expected (and they always asked permission if they planned to work late). - Elena, the designer and project manager, kept us in the loop with weekly updates on what they planned to accomplish each day. She had great design ideas for paint colors and helped make that an easy process and even pushed us to get a little adventurous. - John, the foreman, was seemingly always there or accessible and we trusted him to do what was needed to get the project done. Any question that we had was immediately answered. - For the most part, their subcontractors were excellent, especially the drywall finishers, painters and electrician. Basement Masters clearly vets their partners and works with professionals. - The only unexpected additional cost was extra plumbing work, but they explained our options and we agreed it was needed. Cons: - The only hiccup worth mentioning was that one subcontractor left our home unsecured overnight to air it out after spray foam insulation was installed. To their credit, both Basement Masters and the owner of the insulation company were appalled, apologized profusely and nothing like that happened again. Still, it?s worthwhile to have a conversation with them to confirm that your house will be closed up and locked up by all subs.

We found Basement Masters by searching for companies online and through Angie?s list. I saw the glowing reviews by Basement Masters customers and contacted Pavel almost a year ago asking if he could provide a quote over email as to what it would cost to refinish our basement, which he easily provided with no pressure to commit. Nearly a year later, I reached back out to Pavel to let him know that we were ready to refinish our basement and wanted to further discuss the details. He came to our home and provided an impressive booklet that outlined every aspect of the job ? what was included, what was extra and other finishing options. He walked the basement space and immediately had the vision for what it could become. He provided us a fair quote, which very close to the quote he provided over email a year before (and right on target with the actual cost of the job after it was complete). After this initial meeting, I knew we would go with this company but we decided to do some additional searching to see what our options were. As expected, there were no other options. We met with one other company and the experience was just not the same ? they did not have the level of organization or enthusiasm that Pavel showed us. I was ready to stop searching right then and there. The second the other company left our house, I immediately contacted Pavel and told him we wanted Basement Masters and were ready to start ASAP. He came back later that week to finalize the details and that was it! Our basement project began October 7th and was completed end of November/early December. The process was painless. We knew what to expect every day ? who was coming to the house, when they would be there, what they were doing, etc. The crews worked long hours and even weekends?and came back if there was anything we had questions about or wanted to discuss. The entire crew and Pavel?s staff were very approachable and available to us. And they did amazing work ? you can tell they are pros. Our finished basement includes a large living/play area, office, full bathroom and closet space. We left some space unfinished for storage. We absolutely love our basement! Such good work ? you?d never know you were in a basement! They pay such attention to detail ? the light switches, moulding, doors and door hardware ? are the same as what we use throughout the rest of the house (main floor and upstairs), so everything flows. What I found most impressive (silly) was the attention to detail around the windows! Our basement is underground, so we have the typical small windows high on the walls. They put moulding around the windows, finished the sills and even put on little vinyl blinds! Little details like those make such a huge difference! We can?t wait until our couch is delivered and TV is mounted, so we can begin using the space for our growing family. So glad we chose Basement Masters! Fabulous job! Pavel, the owner, is highly organized, efficient, flexible, knowledgeable, and client friendly. He quickly (almost always immediately) responded to all communications during the project. The project supervisor and other employees were skilled, detail-oriented, and a pleasure to interact with while here. Before the project started, we were given a complete and detailed description of the work to be done and its costs, yet also had flexibility to make decisions on details as work progressed. The result was an extremely satisfying experience ? and a finished project that is a delight. The project was completed on schedule due to the hard work and long hours put in by all. Definitely would recommend the company, and would hire them again.

We are extremely happy with work done by Basement Masters. We had a house with unfinished basement that is now beautifully finished. This is the third house we are renovating and we had multiple contractors in the past working on different projects around the house. Basement Masters is by far the best company we have ever worked with that we can recommend to anyone without any hesitation. There are several reasons why Basement Masters worked for us. First, the project proposal they provided had very clearly itemized the work to be done and the associated pricing. Also clear were the optional upgrades and their associated pricing. There were no hidden/unpredicted costs anytime throughout the project. Equally important, the project started and ended exactly the time it was promised to us. Second, the craftsmanship and the professionalism of the all the crews that worked on the project, is fantastic. When we met with Pavel, we expressed our concern about having someone to oversee the quality of work making sure that all goes according to plan. This may be the natural concern for any home owners who have gone through any kind of renovation. The response from Pavel was that every crew he uses is specialized to do one job and only for basement projects. Not only that, but his crews have been with him for a long time. He also added that if we want him to be here, he will be here. That really gave us comfort that we can rely on him and his company. It turns out that the project had a wonderful project manager, Elena, and a person responsible for the overall craftsmanship of the project (John). Third, project management and communication was great. In more detail: The first day of the project, Pavel came with his crew. He communicated what needed to be done with his crew and us. Every crew that walked in since that day was very meticulous with their part and cleaned up after themselves every day while making sure they did not bring dirt on the first floor, which was also important to us. First, framing was done. Just looking at the framing, our basement began to transform. Bare woods, but yet looked so professionally done and so beautiful. We were so impressed with their work. Next was the electrician. We had not seen any electrician do such a wonderful and meticulous job. At this point, our worry about something going wrong was quickly vanished. Next was the dry wall crew. Then dry wall finish crew. They were so pleasant and they did such a great job. The dry wall had to be finished in multiple layers and the end result was really beautiful. Then the tile crew for the bathroom showed up. He lay the tiles and showed us some potential layout patterns. We had an idea in mind, but he showed us a few alternative pattern that might work with our small area. The end result is just wonderful. Such a small area, but has a significant impact. The paint crew also did a great job. We also liked how well the project was managed throughout. Elena, who was our project manager was a single point of contact. Whenever we had questions, she was always quick to respond and address them. Elena also sent us weekly updates on what will be worked on the following week and when. She is professional and so pleasant to talk to. She also helped us with some of the design selections for tiles, vanity, etc. Before we close with our review about Basement Masters, we also like to mention a few things about why we value this company in addition to all the wonderful work they did and the stress free project throughout. The very next day after we already had out final walk through for the project and paid them in full, we have noticed a very slight difference in the color of paint where touch up was made. I called Elena and the painter stopped by on the same day and fixed the problem. Sometimes, paint mix itself can be the issue although it was exactly the same color they used. Immediately, the painter bought a new paint and came back to go over the touched up area. Now the color is perfect. He also told me to let them know if I see anything else comes up, they will take care of it. We had a great experience with Basement Masters. We cannot say enough about their professionalism and craftsmanship. More importantly, the crews that came in took pride in their work. The peace of mind we had throughout the 5 weeks of the project is invaluable and we ended up with a truly beautifully made basement.

He spent the whole call trying to disqualify me from working with them and then said that they don't do anything but a full gut renovation and ended the call. Very frustrating/disappointing.

We have owned our home for over 11 years and have always wanted to finish our 1440 sq ft basement. When we finally saved enough money, we reached out to several contractors to receive quotes. After looking at all the great reviews Pavel and the basement masters received, we thought that they were going to be the one we were going to go with. After meeting with Pavel, not only was he the most organized, but he seemed actually excited about the proposition of finishing our basement. All other contractors that we met with didn't seem like they cared either way. We chose the Basement Masters and we are extremely happy we did. Not only were their prices the best, but they were able to start in three weeks. From day one the team working on the basement were extremely professional and cleaned up daily. We have worked with many contractors in the past as our house was a fixer upper. I wish I had discovered Pavel earlier because the basement is now the nicest part of our house. We had our roughly 1300SF basement finished by Basement Masters and could not be any happier with the results. This was a very large project which required converting our underground basement into a walk out with double doors. The transformation has been amazing and our friends can't believe what we were able to do with such a large dark space. We finished a beautiful full bathroom and the workmanship on the tile work is wonderful. In fact, all of the contractors that worked on our house were very professional, courteous and skilled at their trade. Pavel hires specialist for every line of work (painters, drywall etc) so you get contractors who really know what they are doing and aren?t a jack of all trades. Pavel, who is the owner/operator was very good at responding to questions and worked with us to make sure the end product was exactly what we wanted. Basement Masters did an incredible job finishing our basement. Pavel and his crew are top notch professionals, highly skilled, good communicators, and a pleasure to work with. I spoke with and received bids from two additional highly rated companies based on reviews and initially decided to not proceed with the project. Pavel was the only one who came back and tried to work with me on my tight budget. Although I had already made the decision to wait, I couldn?t turn down the great offer he made. You won?t get more for your money from any other contractor. Things that were haggled over with other contractors were just part of the base cost for Basement Masters. For example, he didn?t care about counting air vents or outlets, or moving sprinklers and plumbing. It was all included as part of the deal. My head was spinning with the other guys trying to count up all the little problems they were going to charge me for. They also left me worried about what hidden stuff they would uncover and try to tack on to the price. Not with Pavel. He was upfront and honest about everything from the beginning and never changed the price except for our requested upgrades. Also would like to mention that he spotted things that the others missed and wasn?t bothered by issues that others made a big deal about. Pavel moves fast and makes quick decisions, which was unsettling at first because I thought he was being rushed and careless, but then I realized that he?s got an amazing mind and he?s able to crunch numbers in his head and visualize the project with minimal input from me. The end result proves that out. If he ever makes any mistake I have no doubt that he will correct it at no cost to you. The crew is amazing. I met several of them and they were all very friendly, knowledgeable and willing to seek you out if they had any questions or concerns about the layout or aesthetics. I also have to mention that I felt completely safe leaving them in the house alone or with my family. I was a little worried about that regardless of the contractor, but this was one of the most courteous and cleanest crews I?ve seen. Not only that, they are highly skilled and probably where they got the name Masters from. The framing, carpentry, trim work, drywall finishing, plumbing, electrical, paint was all of the highest quality I?ve ever seen. Our house was built 5 years ago by a well known ?luxury? home builder. The finish work in our basement completely puts to shame the shoddy work that was done on the rest of the house. In the basement, every corner is sharp, every wall is smooth and straight and there?s no paint drips anywhere. Pavel promised to match everything to the rest of our house including doors, door knobs and trim work. They did indeed match everything perfectly and I know the doorknobs were not easy because I couldn?t find them anywhere. I?m pretty sure the doors and knobs were all special ordered, and at no additional cost to me. The project was completely done within the proposed timeline and budget, which was also important for us. Everyone showed up early and left late to get the job done. We have had several people comment on the quality, and we agree. I would hire them again in a heartbeat. I wish they had built our whole house. A few tips to make your project go smoothly: 1- Pavel moves fast so be ready with an idea of what you want for a layout and finishes, even before the first meeting. Once the project starts you won?t have much time to make hard decisions so figure it all out beforehand. 2- Check on the progress each day and identify any problems or potential problems so they can be corrected early. I caught a couple things early and I?m sure that saved everyone time. It wasn?t anything they did wrong, just stuff that I never thought of prior. 3- The base cost includes some builder grade finishes, but realistically you will probably spend a bit more. I think we added about 1k in total on tile, vanity, carpet, mirror, and fixture upgrades. Still the price was completely reasonable.

I found Basement Masters on Angie?s List and, because of the outstanding reviews, decided to get a quote from them in addition to another local company who I?ve had experience with in the past. From the first meeting with Pavel, I was extremely impressed with the efficiency and transparency of how he runs his business. He is extremely organized and makes the most of technology via his iPad and various software applications. He sat down with me and, because I knew what I wanted for my finished product, we were able to go through his detailed brochure and develop a proposed initial cost at that very first meeting. As others have stated, you know exactly what each component of your estimate costs and you can choose from various options to make the overall total fit your budget. In addition, if you want to be more hands on and purchase some items (i.e., faucets, vanity, bathroom towel bars, etc.) yourself, Pavel provides an allowance for those items. Not only did this assure I got exactly what I wanted, I was able to save some money by finding things cheaper than the allowance provided by shopping online and/or finding items on sale locally. Once Pavel?s team began working, I realized that Pavel?s superior customer service and work ethic doesn't stop with him. His entire team and the subcontractors he uses share his values. They were on time, communicative and did outstanding work. Everything was done to code. It is so rare to find this consistent level of caring customer service today. He even provided an interior designer to meet with us to discuss colors and finishes. After selecting paint colors, she got samples and applied them to the walls for us to see in different lights. This was a real asset because what we thought we wanted was not what we finally selected. When we ran into unforeseen issues during the project (which is to be expected), Pavel and/or his team always consulted with me and provided options. I had the final say in how the issue was resolved. I was also amazed at the long hours they kept. It wasn?t unusual to see emails from Pavel sent at 12:30 a.m. Also, there were several days when his folks were there for 10-12 hours as well as weekends. This was always done with my advance permission. Not only did they come in on budget and provide a stellar finished project, they completed it one week early. Bottom line, we love our new basement and I would very highly recommend Basement Masters. My only regret is that I only have one basement or I?d definitely use them again myself!

We found Basement Masters through Angie's List after having multiple contractors in to look at our basement. At first we were a little reluctant because everyone mentioned that they were significantly cheaper than any of the other estimates. However, what sold us was the detailed brochure with options and prices provided by Pavel on the initial visit. We were able to build our price with the options we chose. No one else was able to enumerate the costs down to that level of detail. Once the project started, his workers were prompt, efficient, very respectful and the work completed was of the highest quality. They were a pleasure to work with and were very concerned with our satisfaction with every detail. It can be daunting knowing there are going to be strange people in your home for multiple weeks but with Basement Masters, we never felt uncomfortable because the team never walked through the upper level. Here is the most amazing part. We did a special order bathroom vanity from Home Depot which was delayed multiple weeks. Instead of waiting on Home Depot to deliver the vanity, Pavel purchased a "temporary" vanity and faucet to satisfy the plumbing inspector (they will replace our vanity and faucet when the vanity comes in). The job was completed 3 weeks early! Pros: - A detailed brochure - Daily communication via text and email - Respectful prompt and efficient - Willing to work with our schedule. They worked on many weekends but that was our choice. - Had a port-a-john brought on sight to minimize house intrusions - Finished 3 weeks early!! Cons: - None!!

Basement Master's refused to the job because it was too small. "Do not need to advertise if they aren’t willing to do the work." Stated that his remodel was less than 20k and they only do jobs that are 20k or up.

They were extremely professional, accommodating, clean, and completed our project on time, on budget, and surpassed our expectations once complete. The company's representative arrived promptly and listened carefully to our concerns, which were backed up by an evaluation we'd had done by a structural engineer. The representative was clearly knowledgeable and spent considerable time with us talking about the problem. He then prepared a detailed estimate, with drawings, to illustrate how he recommended resolving the problem. We ended up selecting a landscaping company to do the work because we had a variety of planting and grounds work we also needed done.

The process went very smoothly. Pavel is very upfront about pricing--what X amount of square feet costs and what is included. He was the only contractor I interviewed that was so clear about the pricing breakdown from the beginning. He has a booklet that describes the pricing and various options. You can pick more expensive options or stick to his base plan. His quote was reasonable and much lower than some contractors. The project was supposed to take 8 weeks and they finished in 8 weeks and a day (which included a blizzard). Their crew did excellent work and were very reliable. They kept me informed of the schedule and would answer any questions I had. Everything was done to code and several inspectors commented on how good the work was. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone.

I was impressed by the reviews and what I saw in Angie's list about Basement Masters, so I visited their website reviewed their portfolio. We wanted to do some basement renovations, which mainly involved building a bar in our basement along with some lighting. On there website they list what they do as: Here are some of the examples of what we can add to your basement: - Bathroom,Wet bar,Laundry room, Kids Play room, Bedroom with egress window addition , Exercise room, Home office,Home theater, Sauna, Wine storage, Etc. I contacted them to hopefully get an estimate for building a basement bar. They replied telling me they were not interested in the work with out discussion. "Unfortunately, we do not do just wet-bars."

Basement Masters sets the industry standard and far exceeded my expectations in my recent 1400 SF complete basement renovation. Their competitive pricing, superior attention to detail, impeccable cleanliness & courtesy and ability to adhere to a very strict timeline sets Basement Masters apart as the BEST!!! Pavel, the owner, is probably the most knowledgeable, dedicated and hands-on owner I have ever encountered, and we have done many home improvement projects in multiple houses within multiple states. He delivers a detailed, very reasonable quote before he leaves your house on the day of the estimate. He has a sharp, creative eye for design and at times sent multiple emails for suggested products to use, even late at night. He personally went to three different Home Depots gathering specific tile that we wanted to use for our large, ADA compliant bathroom. Multiple times we changed our minds on a selection, sometimes after it was already installed, and Pavel willingly accomodated our choices, almost immediately. Every single employee in Pavel's crew abides by the same expectation for excellence and delivers superior work with a very pleasant, dedicated attitude. 7 1/2 weeks after starting with a concrete slab, Basement Masters delivered an absolutely breathtaking basement "condo" equipped with a bedroom, handicapped accessible bathroom, gorgeous kitchenette, family room and a kid's playroom. On April 3rd, 2015 we welcomed my 84 year old grandmother into our home and her life as well as our own are forever changed. The estimator was courteous and knowledgeable. He explained the work needed. The spec was clear and detailed, however we did not select this contractor since the scope of the proposal was not as broad as others received. We felt more was needed. The price was in line with our expectations. We would call the contractor again if we have need for other work.

My experience with Basement Master's could not have got smoother. They promised an 8 week renovation with everything we had discussed. Pavel was more than open to discussion and easily accessible to talk about progress and different Idea plans. All of his workers were courteous and professional. Each nigh they left out basement clean and free of clutter. They worked fast and efficient, and during the day could barely notice they were working besides for the occasional noise. If there was ever a "curve ball" I would through in the design, Pavel and his workers were flexible about very capable of working on the fly. I would highly recommend Basement Masters to any one thinking of finishing their basement. They were by far the best company to perform such a job for the money we spent which I came by in doing my extensive research before beginning the Job.

Our experience with Basement Masters was excellent. From start to finish it was a seamless operation. Basement Masters was very responsive from the first contact to completion of the project. The planning and pricing phase was very refreshing. The pricing was shown upfront, there was no upsell pressure (and at least 30% less than 2 competitors). Once the deal was signed the project started on time and stayed on schedule throughout. Project updates were frequent and very informative. We bought our next home and wanted to finish the basement. We got quotes from several contractors. Pavel's quote was not only reasonable, but also very clear, everything is clearly priced in the booklet, no hidden gimmicks. Work was performed to finish the unfinished portion of my basement, update the lighting in the partially finished area and replace the original sump pump with a new battery backup type. The job involved developing a design that would make the best use of my overall basement space while finishing the unfinished area which only had a misplaced 3 piece rough-in for the bathroom, minimal framing and a door leading to the partially finished area. When my home was built in 1994, I had the builder complete the rec room area, add a 3-piece rough-in for a future bathroom and add proper plumbing for our washer and dryer in the unfinished area. Pavel was extremely professional and patient in assessing our existing unfinished basement space and providing the best options to my wife and I. We also asked him to ensure that all of the work be done to code for the county we live in. Since the county code changed since our home was built in 1994, additional modifications had to be made to our plumbing, insulation, HVAC system and smoke/CO detectors, etc. Pavel coordinated the schedules of his contractors with the visits from the county inspectors to make things ran smoothly for all the work that was done. All of the contractors that support this Basement Masters project were professional, prompt, highly skilled, kind and courteous. They answered all questions that we had about the work that was performed. I actually learn quite a bit about remodelling dos and don'ts from them. At the end of each work day, the contractors cleaned up after themselves. We anticipated not being able to use our washer and dryer for a while during construction and considered temporarily using local commercial laundry facilities. But to our surprise the contractors made special provisions for my family to use our washer and dryer when possible in the temporary location and as soon as possible after they were moved to the permanent location. The project was run smoothly and the final results were excellent. I would highly recommend Basement Masters for all basement remodeling projects. The project started around 12/18/2014 and was completed on 1/30/2015. Considering that they had to work around the holidays and my work schedule, the job was completed quickly and efficiently.
