Norman, the Academy tech, showed up at the beginning of the expected time slot. He was very polite and got right to work on the issue. It was a quick fix (clogged line) and he performed the annual maintenance check at the same time for a very reasonable price. I really appreciated the honest and straightforward diagnostic and quick work. He tested the system multiple times to ensure that there were no other issues, and he provided a detailed explanation on the ticket he left with me. I have always found Academy to be straightforward and go the extra mile which is why we always go back to them. Norman's work was no exception - he is a great representative for the brand!

Installation was done promptly, professionally and minimal interruption.

They were pretty competitive. I had some problems with the unit afterwards that I think they should have avoided which cost me service calls.

I have found them to be reliable and professional.

They were actually the ones that replaced my heat pump, like, three years ago.

I have been a homeowner for over 35 years and I have never seen a more efficient professional company than Academy Heating and Air Conditioning. Came out found there was a leak and no freon left in the system and recommended replacement of the air conditioner but not the furnace as it was still in very good condition saving me thousands. I set up the appointment and a crew of three arrived promptly before our 9 a.m. appointment. They installed a Lennox a/c unit that was highly recommended and with a seer rating of 15 was double that of my old York unit of 8 seer. The crew explained everything and even gave us a lesson on how the programmable thermostat worked. I have replaced several units in my time but Academy is the diamond in the rough. I found that almost all of the technicians who work for this company have been with the company for years. That says a lot about the ownership of the company treating their people good and it's who you want working on your air conditioner. Experienced techs. Bottom line run don't walk in hiring this company for all your ac and heating needs.

Great job. Quick estimate, fast and reliable service

The technician came three times. The first time, he diagnosed the problem (charged 1/2 hour of labor). The second time, he noticed he had not ordered the correct part. The third time, he fixed the issue (charged one hour of labor). We were without hot water for 5 days.

Worked well until June 2014 then the compressor died....aifferent problem

I was hesitant at first because I had seen some negative reviews on Angie's list. However, had had good experiences with them in years past, and they had the low bid so I decide to go with them. We received substantial rebates on the $9500 initial cost. | |They did a good job. They were prompt, efficient and responsive. There were a couple of small things they had to come back to tweak, but they did so promptly.

They have always been very reliable and always done very good work at a fair price. They also are very good about their scheduling.

I have been using them for many years. They have installed a heating system for me. Recently I had problems with my air conditioning and they solved the problem quickly. They maintain my unit yearly. They solve my problems and they put me at ease. They are a very economical company. Academy Heating and Air Conditioning consistently provides professional and excellent service. I highly recommend them.

The service manager Bob Nibert came the same day we called for an estimate. A few days later, the technician Richard came punctually, was very organized and experienced, solved even difficult problems, stayed at the job till it was finished. As the job has been done very recently, we do not yet know how the long term quality is. I had misgivings about the compatibility of the old AH (using Freon 22) and the new condenser, using Freon 410. I may have the numbers wrong, but the compatibility was worth thinking about. So far, no problems, and $4000 at least saved.

Academy was very professional and courteous. They restarted our AC without charging us.

The Trane HVAC was operating (fan, blower, compressor, etc.), but it was not cooling adequately on the first hot day of the season. I was overseas when my wife noticed the problem, so I had her check our furnace room for the sticker and phone number of an HVAC company anticipating a coolant recharge. Unfortunately, she saw an old sticker from Academy - a company with whom we had no personal experience. The technician arrived as scheduled and began to service the unit. His diagnosis was that it had a bad capacitor, a broken breaker, and a failing compressor. His recommendation: and quot;Time to replace the systems.and quot; He closed up the system, putting the bad capacitor back so he and quot;wouldn't have to charge us for it,and quot; and opening the breaker so it could not start accidentally. In closing the system, he left off 12 of the panel screws holding the unit together (I know exactly how many because I had to buy replacements) and left electrical connections open from where he had removed electrical lugs. In the course of his service call, he did recharge the coolant. Given the condition of the system prior to his call (being a combination gas furnace and AC unit, it had just provided heat throughout the winter and it had been cooling, just not well) I didn't trust the diagnosis and sought a second opinion. Another company came out and reviewed the system, noting the bad capacitor and the adequate refrigerant charge. They replaced the capacitor... and the system worked perfectly. So, bottom line is the technician (identified by Academy as and quot;one of our bestand quot; in a subsequent telephone call) found a partially working unit in need of a coolant recharge and new capacitor, actually repaired the unit - and then undid the repair and left the unit completely disabled and partially dissassembled with a recommendation that it had to be replaced. AND they charged me to do so. Draw your own conclusions about the quality of Academy Heating and Air Conditioning service, but I for one won't be using them again.

The heat pump replacement was done as expected. When all work was completed and the technicians were gone, so was a bottle of prescription cough syrup that was foolishly left on a table in the room where the work was being done. A very cool t-shirt that was hanging next to my attic stairs was also gone. I will never have this company in my home again!!!! Maybe they should drug test their employees...

I am very disappointed with Academy, and have serious concerns that this company may have deliberately cheated me. At my request, a technician came to my house on January 6th to perform a routine servicing of my furnace. When he left, he gave me a list of three parts that needed replacing, and left without replacing them, saying that they needed to be ordered. After he left, however, the furnace stopped working and did not work again for 4 days. A second technician came to the house the next day, but left without being able to fix it, and with a completely different diagnosis of the problem. In addition, he disregarded and disagreed with the first technician. He placed an order for the part that he said needed fixing-- the pressure switch-- and came back to install it on the 10th. I was left without heat in my house, in January and with a small child in the house, for 4 days. The furnace has worked since then. The issue is not whether the pressure switch actually needed replacing. The issue is that the furnace was working fine before the first technician came to the house. It is getting old, and needed a routine servicing, but it had been providing me heat all winter thus far. Clearly the first technician made a mistake, and did something to make it stop working. When I discussed this with the second technician, he had the gall to suggest that it was simply a coincidence. This is so outrageous that it is insulting. It was bad enough to be left without heat for 4 days in winter, but what strikes me as the most unprofessional-- and where I believe the company actually cheated me-- was in charging me labor costs twice, once for each technician. The second technician, and thus the company as a whole, refused to acknowledge that the first technician had done anything wrong, and charged me additional labor costs for the second technician to come out and fix whatever the first technician had done. I sent Academy a detailed letter afterwards, documenting the episode and requesting a refund of the labor costs, but they did not respond. I can only assume that this was deliberate and that they have no intention of taking my complaint seriously. I would not recommend this company to anyone for any reason based on this experience.

The overall experience with this company was great and I'm planning to start a service contract with them for this calendar year.

I would not recommend Academy Heating and Air Conditioning Company. Their prices are outrageous. Instead of just cleaning the unit, they tried to sell us a larger water neutralizer unit. So we didn’t have them do anything. They told us that the whole thing would cost us about $7000, which was absurd. When I checked with the manufacturer, they told us that it just could be cleaned. I would never use them in the future.

Our furnace is very old and they have specific parts for our furnace. We have no choice and have to use them. We have been using them for about five years. We have had issues with them. When we have any issues, we call and talk directly with the owner. They have kept our furnace still running. They will come out the same day get the system fixed if the heat goes out. Their service calls are very affordable. They always have the parts and they keep saying that we can always keep the furnace running and that we need not change our furnace. They are very honest and we like them a lot. Their price is very fair and very reasonable.

They have been okay. They are professional. They bring all the tools and do their job. All I have to supply to them is the ladder. I am very happy with them. The last time they came they did not find anything wrong. After two weeks we were not getting any cooling and I called them. They came and put something. I thought to myself how come they had not seen anything earlier and now they wanted something else. However, they have been good so far. Usually they are fine. They have been consistently satisfactory. Their pricing was alright. I had another episode when he checked the furnace and said needed a new expansion tank as it had collapsed. That was a huge bill. Then it turned out that the tank did not have any problem at all. They are pretty responsive and punctual.

They do everything. They are excellent and competent. They are not the cheapest in town. The come when they say they would and do what they said they would.

Overall it went as well as expected. What I didn't like with the maintenance agreement is that it did not provide for filters if needed. I would have expected that to either pay for a filter in full, or at least provide a discount if a new one is required. But this was not the case. And they are expensive at $50.00 per filter. This is my only complaint. The technician was knowledgeable and good at what he does. He was on time and did his job correctly. One caveat you can get is that they do offer a military discount of $10.00. It's not much, but in this economy, every little bit helps.
