smoothly quickly and very well will use them again
Description of Work: From the initial contact everything was handled professionally and they were very helpful. We started out doing our Kitchen Countertop with Granite the scope of work expanded to include three bathroom vanities as well. The installed were a tad late the day of installation but the stayed until 10:30pm to make sure that they finished the job. We will be using them again soon for our Master Bath

We purchased the stone in late summer 2009, but were not ready to install. ABKA held the stone for us (it seemed like forever); when we were finally ready in 2010, they came, measured, and installed. No fuss, no muss. If it had been any easier, it would have been truly unbelievable.
Description of Work: We purchased a piece of granite for kitchen counters; ABKA also installed.

I have never been treated with such a lack of professionalism ever. The sales representative was rude and clearly indifferent to my business. The person sent to make the template for my vanity was late with out explaination. In a customer oriented business for a natural product that can be shopped around I would expect some level of concern for customers needs. I did not use their services and I know my designer, who would be a repeat customer if the experience had been different, will not use this company. Other reviewers have had better experiences than i did, so in all fairness it might just be the sales representative I had to deal with, Cyrus.

Response from ABKA Marble & Granite Inc
ABKA has been in business for over 30 years. Our standard policy is that the customer comes to the showroom to choose the material and place a 1/3rd of the total cost in order to hold the material, then the second 1/3rd when the customer is ready for measurement and the final 1/3rd upon installation. This particular customer came in to the ABKA showroom several weeks ago to choose their material; the client requested their designer’s discount; hence, ABKA asked the customer to have their designer contact us for payment/deposit procedure. ABKA tagged and held the stone selected by the customer to ensure the piece would not be sold (in the meantime) while waiting for their designer to contact ABKA. The designer contacted us 2-3 weeks later and asked us to send our technician to take a formal measurement of the space that required a counter top. ABKA completed the formal measurement for the customer’s counter top and coordinated a date for installation of the counter top. At this point ABKA was “only” in contact with the designer. The designer called 1 day before installation and cancelled the installation date without any explanation. ABKA had been very accommodating to the designer by not collecting any deposit, which is our standard procedure. It is worth mentioning that there was no signed contract by er the customer/designer for this job and ABKA went forward with the process without any commitment from either of the parties involved. To this day, we have not received any communication from the customer/designer as to what went wrong and how we could have accommodated them to their liking.

All went well. We visited their beautiful showroom a few times and selected the material. The staff was helpful and friendly. The project went very smooth from start to finish.
Description of Work: ABKA provided granite & limestone countertops, vanity tops, French Vanity, and interior stone for our new house. ABKA provided the biggest granite slab they could find for our kitchen island where it took 8 men to carry it in the kitchen. They carved the island top so well that one slab fit and they did not have to use joints or multiple pieces. ABKA provided travertine flooring and limestone for our fireplaces. They are absolutely beautiful. We used a variety of limestones and granites from them from moderate to precious stone. The work was done neatly, on time, while not breaking the bank. We also purchased French vanities and a few cabinets from them. We get many compliments on them as they are unique, specially the french country curved vanity in our formal powder room. They did an amazing job cutting the limestone vanity top to fit the curve of the vanity. The limestone is an amazing piece of stone where you can see the fossils that have been trapped there for millions of years. We ended up purchasing our Hunter Douglas shades and blinds from them as well. ABKA was one of the best subcontractors we used while building our home. They were professional, timely, used high quality material, and priced competitively. We have referred them to our friends and builders and will certainly use them again.

From start to finish, the one word I think sums up the selection and service that I received from ABKA ... Impeccable. There are other one stop shops out there, but I found that for me, I appreciated their consistency and integrity at every next step. I appreciated their beautiful and unique selections of stones, their competitively pricing, and genuine honest people who stayed in touch with me from start to finish and met every single promise they made. Everything was installed better than I could have imagined. Worthy of note was the extra mile that they took upon themselves to measure and cut to perfection for one countertop using nearly all of one slab of granite, without a seam where it turns! Not only would no one else agree to do that, but one even told me that it would be impossible. To me, this spoke to a level of skill that the others did not have. Not only were they wrong, but even better, using every bit of that one slab ultimately brought the price down. I know that they did not have to do that. The kitchen cabinets also feel solid and look wonderful in contrast to the granite that I chose. They even had sink and faucet selections to compliment. I just went ahead and bought everything I needed. Any slight difference that I could have possibly negotiated in price would not have bought me the same quality or the peace of mind of believing (and now knowing) that ABKA would stand behind it all and I could call or walk in and a manager if not owner would be there with integrity to solve any possible problems. The granite/marble combination around the fireplace looks fantastic and I love sitting beside it on the warmed smooth stone. Bath tilework was also done beautifully and I did not have to clean up after anyone, ever. And I can't think of anywhere else that I have ever been made to feel more like family. Everyone was always eager to make sure that I was satisfied. A parrot greeted me on the way in and the cutest little puppy that was so friendly. I've already referred some of my own family and my best friend to ABKA.

Our Kitchen was a large installation, and very tricky in many respects. The Cabinets were installed with great detail and we could not have been more pleased with the quality of the granite, the craftsmanship of the installation, and the wonderful customer service of both the sales and the installation teams. Everyone showed up right on time, made sure they cleaned as they worked, and left their work areas cleaner than when they arrived. Did I mention their fantastic prices? We could not have afforded our dream kitchen without them. Long story short, ABKA would be on my short list of people to highly recommend.
Description of Work: ABKA installed cabinets & countertops in our kitchen, in addition to countertops in our bathroom. The sales person was very nice and helped me find the right granite for our kitchen. The installers were absolutely wonderful.

It is obvious the sales person called Yennie at ABKA had an attitude problem. Called for pricing...received it through email. Went there to check the stone on the same day and wanted to know whether the price is negotiable to close the deal. All I got is "if you want lower price, go somewhere else". It seems that they don't care about the customer or the business at all. Maybe they do a good job but with that kind of customer service, I was pushed away. Called another company at Angie's list and got everything done professionally within a week at a lower price!

Response from ABKA Marble & Granite Inc
In reference to the above-noted review, this potential client asked ABKA for installation of granite surround for his fireplace and provided his rough measurement for pricing purposes. Based on the gentleman’s description and his rough measurements for the fireplace, ABKA Office Manager, Yenni provided him with a discounted price quote of $1,075 (for this type of job, we charge the customer at least $1,800). The gentleman mentioned that he had already shopped around and had a better price. In order to accommodate the client, Yenni asked him to at least send her a picture to visualize what the job entailed. The client e-mailed a picture of a brick fireplace which the hearth (floor) of it was raised and there was a wooden-mantel around the brick fireplace. Based on that picture, Yenni called the client back and told him that because of the un-evenness on the surface of the brick and the need for accurate joining with the wood mantel, the proper procedure would be to remove the wooden-mantel and install the stone in the proper manner, then trim and adjust and install the wooden-mantel to fit the fireplace surround. Therefore, the $1,075 would be the best price that ABKA could offer him. Client claimed that he had received a less-expensive estimate from another fabricator. Yenni told him that his choice of company for fabrication and installation was his right and that she would respect his choice. We would like to establish the following facts: Our policy is that the client would select the stone and provide a deposit to start the process. For this particular client, we were not informed of the job site address and neither received a deposit nor a verbal confirmation to get the purchase process started. Therefore, ABKA had not established any commitment to the customer to do this job. This type of review is not fair, appreciated or carries any weight. ABKA takes a pride in its customer service and professionalism; the service and quality of work performed at ABKA (from A-Z) is of the highest regard and we take pride in it.

Vadood was a professional from the start. I picked out the marble and he took it from there. Drew specifications for exactly what I wanted. When I got the half wall top home the contractor had measured wrong and I needed another piece. No problem for Vadood and he was as nice as could be. Had it ready for me in no time for additional charge (of course). A few weeks later the vanity top was installed. The installers were prompt, neat and courteous. I noticed the top had several scratches. Vadood came out to see it himself and then sent someone else to determine if it could be repaired. It turns out Vadood thought it would be better to just make a new vanity top. It was installed the other day and it is perfect! It was a pleasure dealing with the competent, professional and courteous people from ABKA. Ask for Vadood! I would definitely use them again!

Our experience was so positive that we still cannot believe it. Our existing counter top was built into the bath when we had it completely redone about 20 years ago. Very tight fitting existing counter top including wall paper made us expect that we would need to redo the wallpaper after the new counter was installed. The existing counter was Corian and had to be literally broken to remove without impacting mirror and other items in bath. The sink we purchased was an unusual modern shape for a shallow basin. It was basically rectangular but with curvature to all sides. The measurement guy arrived on time for the site survey---the counter is about 6 feet long with a single sink. Before selecting the marble we visited the showroom and yard many times---we never received any pressure, and the personnel in the office and yard could not have been more accommodating with their time and the many questions we had. Our price of less than $1,500 for all removal, custom cutting and installation was so surprising reasonable compared to our expectation, that we did not even get a second estimate. Everything went as planned but on installation we discovered that the full wall mirror was glued to the wall and the counter backsplash was a little too high (1/8 inch) to fit under the mirror. I discussed options with the installer, and he was able to carve out for the mirror in such way that the backsplash slid under. Absolutely perfect look. It could not have been installed or look better. Because of the window and medicine cabinet on side walls, the installation required very careful and repeated positioning attempts to get it right without damaging the existing wall paper. When done, to our amazement, the wall paper not only was undamaged but also it looked like it was just installed for the new counter top. Absolutely beautiful, perfect job from start to finish. There isn't one thing they could have done to make us more satisfied. We give them our highest recommendation. We will certainly use them again for kitchen or bath work.
Description of Work: Remove existing bath counter top, including plumbing---and replace with custom granite counter top, new sink, and installation. We selected the granite from a large yard inventory of slates. We selected and purchased our own sink and fixture---and provided to them to cut out the counter and use to complete the installation.

It was a very plasant experience right from the beginning, from dismantling/removal of existing countertops & cabinets to the end.All the material including the granite countertop, cabinets, sink & faucet are of high quality. The entire work project went very smoothly with minimum of fuss, causing us no trouble at all. They are very understanding, consumer friendly & flexible, with no attitude at all. They did the work very cleanly without causing any mess & were very mindful of their surroundings. Very professional & very impressive.
Description of Work: We needed to completely remodel our kitchen with new cabinets & granite countertops. We did some extensive research & almost finalized the deal with another company. I think it was destiny when I stumbled upon ABKA in the Clipper magazine the night before I was going to place the order & as they say rest is history. I could not be happier with the entire result. Vadood is a gem & ABKA should never ever let him go. The quality of work is top class, time frame astounding & prices best in town. I thought my work was very demanding & challenging, given the budget, quality of work & time constraint( I barely had a month) but Vadood kept surprising me by meeting all my reasonable & at times unreasonable demands. They have a wide range of inventory, their own granite workshop & basically a huge place. With the kind of quality workmanship, it is amazing how they are able to maintain such a competitive edge over others as far as prices are concerned. Simply amazing. I could keep going but suffice is to say that they did an outstanding job at every stage of the project & as a result we have our dream kitchen. We are truly enjoying it every moment. Thanks ABKA, thanks Vadood & thanks to Marcio as well. They have bought me over & we'll always go to ABKA for anything & everything in future. I'm so thankful that I'm determined to make myself their biggest referral source.Great job, ABKA. Keep it up!

After having shopped for the best deal in town, ABKA countertops had the widest selection, and offered the most competitive pricing without affecting the quality which is outstanding. Time to delivery and installation was one week! I was referred to ABKA by my parents who had just remodeled their kitchen several years ago and were most pleased with the service and end product. Based on their solid recommendation I had kitchen counters installed three years ago and was so pleased with the quality, workmanship, and professionalism that several months ago I upgraded another part of my kitchen with their help. They were able to match granite counters perfectly and at the time of installation even polished my old counters as a nice gesture. Service and quality remains unchanged over all these years, excellent! Most recently this past week I went back to purchase a piece of granite for a coffee table as I really like the workmanship. They essentially did the job overnight and pretty much at cost. I consider myself a pretty harsh critic. I am most impressed with ABKA, the employees, and the owners who truly raise the bar.
Description of Work: I had kitchen counters installed with work performed three years apart making it a bit of a challenge to match the countertop colors. Fortunately, ABKA has such a huge inventory they were able to make a great match.

ABKA was selected from quotes received from two kitchen and bath contractors. The selection was easy, since we had used them before for kitchen countertops, and their price was about 25% less than the other quote. We worked with both Yenni (countertops) and Vadood (tile), and both salespersons bent over backward to help us with selections, and even gave us a $250.00 Angie's discount, which was much appreciated. The installation was timely and very professional. Mehran, particularly, is a perfectionist, and the tile installation that he and his helpers performed was outstanding. The countertops also were installed beautifully, and in a very timely fashion. We could not be happier!

I had ABKA install new hardwood floors in my kitchen and hall in late 2009. In June of this year, a water leak from my upstairs neighbor damaged my new floors. I contacted ABKA and worked with Pedram Pouya to get an estimate for the condo's insurance company to replace the floor. He was very helpful in getting the estimate in a timely fashion and within a week, my floor was replaced entirely to my satisfaction. Once again, ABKA and particularly Pedram Pouya did work I would be happy recommend to others.

and cutting of the granite on site for the cooktopsABKA and specially Pedram helped with remodeling of the entire kitchen. The entire company was very knowledgeable and gave many useful suggestion regarding selection and installation of the granite counter-top. Me and my wife had visited at least 10 or more showrooms. ABKA as far as I am concerned had the best and prettiest showroom, and they were constantly revising and upgrading their space with new layout everytime we visited them(throughout our experience we made at least 5 or 6 visits over a two months period). ABKA also had the best price estimate. We asked for the same estimate( with the same layout and square footage ) from at lease two other companies and ABKA was less expensive by $2000-$4000. We made a selection of the granite more than two months prior to installation and the very last minute , after they had made the necessary measurements, we changed to a different granite.Pedram( from ABKA) and Jeff were very helpful in suggesting other showrooms where we finally found the granite we wanted. Installation went very smooth and the installer were very professional. We had a large island (more than 5 feet by 9 feet) and I was frankly worried as to how they could move and install such a large slab of granite....but everything went flawlessly. They had to cut the granite on site for the cooktops.....I believed this would have generated quite a bit of dust. They were very careful in minimizing this, at at the end we only hasd a very thin layer of dust from all the cuttings. The plumber joined the crew at the end of the installation and he was one of the best plumber I had ever worked with.We intend to use both ABKA and their plumber in any of our other remodeling or plumbing need. We have already recommended ABKA to some of our friends

I always go to Angie's List when I need any kind of service; recently I was fortunate enough to discover Vadood Lotfian, owner of ABKA Marble and Granite of Rockville, Maryland. Vadood himself did the original measuring and he worked with me until I was completely satisfied I had exactly the pieces of granite I wanted. Throughout the entire process, I contacted Vadood with my questions and concerns. He answered my emails and phone calls immediately and made one after-hours trip to my house to address a question. I was able to schedule dates for measuring and installation within a short time frame and the installation was done on a Saturday. The price was significantly below other companies I considered. I can not describe the beauty of ABKA's stone. The granite in the kitchen has a variation that matches my cherry cabinets exactly; one of the bathrooms actually shimmers; the powder room is now warm and inviting, but not dark. Needless to say, I recommend AKBA without reservation!

I was looking for granite countertops and have visited several area businesses, but what I did not like is that many businesses would not give you the price per square foot of granite you inquire about, but rather they would give you a total project quote. One place tried to sell me a group A granite for the price of group C in ABKA. Needless to say, ABKA was very different and straightforward. Yes, as always there is room for bargaining, and though I am not good at it, I did get a higher group granite for the price of the next lower one. The selection of granite slabs outside was satisfactory, the gentleman who came to take measurements was really good, very polite and he explained that I should expect a gap from about 1/8" -1/4" since I did not want a backsplash to be installed. The installation took place four days later and the men came on time, were very polite and professional and did an excellent job. I enjoy my new granite countertops and would go back to ABKA for any work they do. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: I had my old, builders-grade laminate countertops replaced with granite. ABKA was the first granite business I visited, not the only one though, but I selected them because it was easy to deal with them and their price was the best of all the other businesses I visited. Everything went smoothly, from my initial visit to installation.

Contacted ABKA via Angie's List and got a quick response back via email (my preferred method of contact). However, the response I did get was simply to come in to their showroom with a listing of their showroom hours. No discussion of an in-home estimate, no discussion of the project scope. Nothing. This was not the response I wanted, so I moved on to the next company.

Overall, the end result was satisfactory. However, I was less than impressed with scheduling of the project, and with the quality of workmanship. Schedule: The contractor picked a date which was over 3 weeks away to start the job. At the last minute, they called and rescheduled with about a week delay. Not a big deal, but we had to rearrange our schedules to accommodate. Quality: The floor tiling was good, but the finish caulking around the granite backsplash was initially unacceptable. It was sloppy, and there was caulking spattered on the faucet hardware. We insisted they return to fix this, and they did, but it is still not up to par with a previous countertop job done by this contractor. Overall, we are somewhat satisfied with the job, but frankly a little disappointed.

Two weeks ago, my mom and I went shopping for new hardwood & granite for her condo in Leisure World. We started at one granite and a separate wood flooring store and found the colors/style we thought we wanted. We then went to ABKA just to check out the granite and compare prices. The sales person immediately put us at ease. We found a large slab of the granite Mom wanted and there was even a model kitchen made up with this particular granite. Since they also do Kitchen cabinets, we were able to place a sample cabinet door the same color as Mom's up next to the granite to make sure the match was good. ABKA was also able to supply the sink Mom had dreamed of along with the faucet! Once the pricing was done, we were pretty sure we would be using ABKA for the granite. We happened to mention that we were also going to replace the flooring and wanted to make sure the chosen wood blended well with the granite. Our granite salesperson told us that ABKA also does wood flooring and referred us to the appropriate salesperson. We were able to find a comparable flooring to the one we had chosen earlier in the day and prices were again run for the job. Mom and I were so pleased with the prices that she booked the jobs immediately and arranged to have the measurements done. This was on Sat. 1/8. The granite measuring team came out on Tuesday, as did the flooring measurers. Imagine our pleasure when we were told that the granite would be installed that Friday! The installation was on time, flawless. The installers worked neatly and cleaned up after themselves. On top of that, they were so pleasant. Shortly after the installers finished the ABKA provided plumber arrived and reconnected the plumbing. He discovered what we thought might be true - the disposer needed replacing - and he had one on the truck and replaced it immediately at a very reasonable price. On Tuesday 1/18, the hardwood installers arrived and despite having given us a 2 day install plan, quickly got to work and work completely finished well before the 5pm deadline for work in my Mom's condo building. They contained the mess from the demo work and the cutting of the new product and even vacuumed Mom's carpet when they were done. And again, the staff was sooooo pleasant to work with. Both installs were ablolutely perfect! We can hardly find the one seam in the granite counter and the wood looks fabulous! We went with an engineered hardwood since the install would be over concrete. We would DEFINITELY recommend using ABKA to anyone. It was such a pleasure to truly do "One Stop Shopping". The job was completed on-time, quickly and professionally by all - from the salespeople, to the measurers, to the installers. BRAVO!!!

I inquired with this company because it has high ratings on Angie's list. I sent an email and received an response right away that they require a 30% deposit to come out and do estimates. This was odd because all over their website they say "free estimates." So, I did the measurements myself and the rep. gave me a detailed quote by email. The $1700 was for the granite only. Everything else was extra, so the price was closer to $2500. After this initial estimate, I couldn't get anyone to email me or call me back. When I finally got someone, I explained that I needed some minor work done to my kitchen before the install, namely to remove the existing ceramic backsplash so the new granite one could be put in. The project manager asked me to describe the work and gave me an estimate of $1000. I wasn't comfortable with this because he didn't even see the kitchen. I asked him to come out and he said that I just needed to send him pictures. All of this, from the initial non-free estimate to this cavalier quote on the kitchen work made me uneasy so I decided not to work with this company. The price is misleading too, since it only includes the bare bones and they nickel and dime you on everything else. Re: the response from ABKA -- notice that through the process they never offered or thought it necessary to come out and see that job site. That's bad business and makes it easy to surprise the customer with additional costs. They say: "The member was not trying to give us exact information but at the same time expecting an exact estimate." Isn't their job to come to the job site and get the exact information themselves?

Response from ABKA Marble & Granite Inc
We're sorry to hear the customer had a bad experience. When the member first emailed me the estimate request I kindly explained to her that we can provide her with a free estimate for the granite if she had her rough measurements. The response was within 24 hours of receiving the estimate request. The member provided me with only square footage (not rough dimensions). I replied to the member (again within 24 hours) with an extremely detailed quote. I listed all the options and all the different items that would add to the price of the countertop. Because the information that I had received from the customer was extremely limited I had to give her different pricing for different scenarios. After the member received the estimate she then asked for additional work in the kitchen, mainly removing the existing tile backsplash and replacing with the new backsplash. I had my project coordinator speak with her to get her a rough price. $1000 was quoted to the member as a rough price for the backsplash job. Keep in mind we have to rip out the tiles on the wall, haul away the old material, repair the wall if there are any damages from the removal, install the new tiles, make the outlet cutouts, grout, and seal the backsplashes. The customer was not comfortable with the price because she feels that we need to see the place first. The $1000 was not just some random number we threw out there. This is what the cost of doing a backsplash for a kitchen her size would cost. It may end up being $50 more or less. The project coordinator asked her to send a layout or pictures and she did not. We assumed she was not interested. It seemed that the member was not trying to give us exact information but at the same time expecting an exact estimate.

I went with another company. My overall interaction with ABKA was fine. In fact, if we hadn't gone with the company we went with, we probably would have pursued them. Their pricing was good. They seemed to know what they were doing. They looked at my measurements and came up with an estimate. They gave me a very clear idea of what that number included as far as the countertop, the sink and all of that. Since I didn't use them I can't say that what they presented would be actually what I would get. They seemed to be pretty professional. If we didn't use the company we did, they were the second ones on our list that we would have pursued. They were actually the only company that also followed up a couple of weeks later to see if we had made a decision. They were very professional when I said we had decided to go with somebody else. The guy asked me what the reason was. I told him that it came down to the choice of the granite and he thanked me for the information. They were the only ones who did that. No one else out of all the companies ever followed up to see what we had decided.
Description of Work: ABKA Marble & Granite gave me an estimate on the granite for my countertops. I went to them with my measurements and picked out which kind of granite I would probably want and they gave me an estimate on that.

Provider had 3 cm white carrera marble slabs in stock, unlike 2 cm slabs at other providers, which limited edge choices. Came out and measured for built-in desk top within 3 days and fabricated/installed beautiful top and staggered fancy edge within 5 days. Although sides and back of wall were far from even, the desk top (24 inches by 9 feet) fit very snugly and needed no more edge finishing other than some caulk (also expertly applied). Price was only $49/square foot installed, plus edge. No wall or cabinet scratches. Well done.

Their service, process, and the ease of things stood out. I went to the showroom and picked out the countertops. I completed the transaction within 30 minutes, and then in 5 days someone came out to install it. I chose a sink and style. They offered no interest financing for 6 months. I would highly recommend them if someone I knew was in the market for remodeling a kitchen or bathroom based on my experience. They had a good response time. They were very easy to deal with. They came out within 2 days to do the measurments, and then 3 days later they sent someone for installation. Their prices were competitive.
