Description of Work: We will be needing packers on an as needed or hourly basis during the next two months to begin to pack up our home of 25 years. We will have an estate sale prior to this to get rid of a lot of stuff. Meanwhile, I need crystal, china, etc packed gradually as we get ready to move. At the end I will need movers to load a truck take it to zip code 26260 about 3 hours away in West Virginia and unpack the truck and take into rooms there Need to get bids.

Description of Work: They provided a great service for us. We had to get out by that day and they helped do that in every way. I don't know if everyone remembers but that was after the big thunder storm that came through our area in Bowie we had no power the temps were up around 100 and these guys came in and got us moved to our new location we could not have done it without them. We can't say enough about the company and the men that provided the service to us. Our thanks goes out to them for all they did in getting the job done.

Description of Work: My experience with 495 movers was mixed. The crew here in Maryland was very good a performing their job. They took special care to properly wrap and package my belongings. They worked quickly and efficiently. As near as I can tell they did a proper job of storing the items on their van. My belongings were taken to a local storage facility to wait for a Westward bound moving vehicle. I would give the local group a grade of A. As good as the local crew was the crew in California was bad. My items were put on a moving van with a particular arrival date in mind. I know that this is not a perfect plan but it was all that we had. Two days before the scheduled delivery date I received a call from the driver to say that he intended to deliver my possessions the next day. I made arrangements to have someone meet him but did not show up for 2 days. I was scheduled to arrive at noon from the airport which was the agreed upon time. The driver arrived early (2 hours) and demanded to start then after he received payment in cash which was not the agreement I made with the salesman. The agreement was for the delivery crew to off load and unbox my belongings. When I arrived at the agreed upon time the boxes were in the middle of the floor in the living room of a very small apartment. The crew seemed to be a couple of guys who were picked up on a corner populated by day workers. They did not have any idea of what they were doing. They brought in the sofa and love seat and left them wrapped in cellophane. I mentioned that they needed to unwrap the items. They did this by standing the items on the arms of the furniture and spinning them to take off the cellophane with the result being that they wore holes in the fabric of the arms. To make matters worse I had wooden and glass book shelves all of which were bent beyond repair because the driver said that the load shifted. He tried to repair the book shelves by placing them on the concrete sidewalk in front of the building and proceeded to scratch the finish off of the wood. My coffee table and end tables were also scratched. I finally asked the crew to leave without completing the work. The driver had said that he needed to off load the cargo because he was in a hurry because his boss was pressuring him. He and the crew sat outside in the truck for more than an hour. I tried to file a claim which was a cumbersome process and took 90 days or so to complete. You cannot communicate directly with people and must send everything by email. I filed the claim and sent pictures via internet. Two or three months later I received an email saying that they were now ready to complete the process and they needed additional information such as weight of furniture which was never given to me and I had 24 or 48 hours to respond. The next message I received was short and sweet which said that my claim had been denied because they did not have items such as pictures etc. I picked 495 movers because I thought that they were the most professional and paid twice as much to ensure that my belongings arrived in good shape. They did arrive and all items were found but the furniture was damaged and not to be kept long term. If someone uses them you should take out your own insurance because you will not be able to collect. In summary I will give the Maryland group and A and the group of vagabonds in California an F and the insurance process and F for an over all grade of D- . Since my experience with 495 Movers I have found another moving company (Interstate) located in Virginia. They might do a better job because they seem to be a truly national company.

Description of Work: Moving from one house in Shepherdstown, WV to another

Description of Work: I hired them for a local move. I paid them for three hours of work. My experience with them was great for the moving and they were wonderful. However, they did cause some landscaping damage. They did run over a tarp and landscaping which caused the condo association more money to repair. They seemed to be moving a little too quickly with the work. They were too rushed and did not make logical decisions.

Description of Work: They completed a full household move for us from Washington DC to Jacksonville Florida. We did receive other bids and 495 Movers was in the middle. The key deciding factor was our expectation that the job would be well managed. After meeting with their manager, we felt comfortable that they could execute properly. There were no items damaged or missing and they arrived as scheduled. Everything worked out fine.
