Description of Work: After several phone calls, Kevin finally came out to see what color grout needed replacement in my front steps. Many phone calls later, he finally called me back and said he had been out of town (health problems in his family), and would take care of the problem. He stated that I didn't have to be home for him to do the work. As far as I know, he never came. The area looks the same to me. I would never use this company again, and am out my money.

Description of Work: I paid for a Angie's List Deal, $99.00 for four hours of masonry work. They met with me to determine the scope of work, but never sent me a quote. I tried repeatedly to get the quote from the salesman and the company. After promises that they would send me a quote they never followed through. I contacted Angie's List and they tried to get them to respond without success. Angie's List did refund my money. I am very, very disappointed because the work that I needed done was for safety reasons. Shortly after this unfortunate experience my five year old granddaughter tripped up theses very steps that I wanted fixed and was a bloody mess!!

Response from Grove Brothers Masonry
We value all of our customers and want to make sure they are happy with our work. Last year, we agreed to do the Angie's List "Big Deal" and expected to get about 5-10 new jobs. The promotion brought in about 90 new jobs, far more than our company could handle. We simply couldn't complete jobs in the $99 range when sending out a crew to complete 4 hours of work cost $300-$400. It turned out to be one of the biggest mistakes we've made in business and has led to the only negative reports our company has ever recevied on A.L. We've learned a great deal from this and will use it to improve our company in the future.

Description of Work: I bought the big deal for masonry repair last May and reached out in the fall after the season was over to get our patio mortar work done. I exchanged email with Kevin and sent him pictures of the work to be done. At one point I was told they'd fit me in "next week" but they never came by to do the work. Subsequent emails either blamed the weather for not being able to complete the work (mildest winter ever by the way), or didn't get answered at all. At this point I'm out $100 and still don't have my patio repaired.

Description of Work: I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal coupon for four hours of masonry work from Grove Masonry. I called last week and spoke with the gentleman about the coupon and my need for some re-pointing of the fieldstone steps leading to my front porch. I also told him I had extensive stone work around my house and that depending on how the re-pointing went I would consider hiring them for a much larger stone project. He said that he would meet me at my house on November 1st between 5:30 pm and 6:00 pm to look at the steps and discuss the repair work. I rearranged my schedule to make certain I was home at the agreed upon time and no one from Grove Masonry ever arrived. I called at 6:30 pm and left a message on their voice mail asking someone to call me back and let me know if they were running late, had a problem--whatever. Well, it's now twenty-four hours later and I have yet to hear from them. I have already called Angie's List to have the money I paid for the Big Deal refunded, but that's not my main concern. My primary concern is this: the most valuable asset we possess in life is our time. When a company makes an appointment with a potential client they should keep that appointment. If a problem arises they should contact the client at the earliest possible time to explain the situation. It's not just good business practice, it's basic common courtesy. In my view people, and companies, that lack common courtesy are morally bankrupt and don't deserve much consideration.

The project went very well. Grove brothers kept to their schedule. When demo revealed additional (siding) problems Kevin helped me find a carpenter to perform the repairs and adjusted his schedule to work around the repairs.
Description of Work: Installed new bluestone sidewalk and porch. Removed existing stone and concrete base of sidewalk. Poured new concrete base.

Kevin from Grove was very diligent with communications and scheduling. He took the time to review the job requirements and responded in a timely and detailed manner. Scheduling went well, though there were some weather challenges. Again, Kevin kept the communications going and made sure we were aware of everything that was going on. The job itself went well, the crew was professional, and Kevin was responsive to a couple of issues that came up. Grove also provided some additional support for an issue that they discovered concerning the way water was draining off of the porch. and did some touch up on some decaying mortar joints on the front brick of the house that was not directly related to the job, at no additional charge. All and all, we were very satisfied with the job. Good, dependable masons seem hard to find. Grove is one of the good ones.
Description of Work: The work included grinding, chiseling, and repointing approximately 120 Sq Ft. of flagstone for a front porch and walk area. Approximately 45 square ft of that stone had to be removed, cleaned and reset. All work was acid washed at completion. Also removed and reset bluestone stair treads on a large, three sided stairs / platform area for a patio. All of that work was acid washed at completion as well

From start to finish Grove Brothers was top notch. Kevin was very responsive and patient with our many design questions (and changes). The work crews were all very professional and clearly experienced with different types of masonry work. We are sure that this was a challenging job due to the nature of the project and the yard layout. Despite that, the job started when they said it would and lasted as long as they said it would. The finished product is very impressive. It is clear that they take pride in their work.
Description of Work: Excavated back yard and built a new patio. Half of the patio is concrete (with a block retaining wall) and half is a bluestone with a thinstone sitting wall.

Grove Brothers was the best contractor that we had ever dealt with. They were always on time starting with the first appointment and throughout the entire project. They kept to their schedule and the cost of the contracted price. Kevin always communicated with us during the entire project. We were extremely happy with the end result and dealing with Grove Brothers.

The owner, Kevin, showed up on time for an estimate. He then emailed his estimate and paver choices. After discussing the choices we selected his company and he returned with his mason to plan the project and brought a sample of the paver. A couple of weeks later he started the job and finished in 3 days. His masons are true craftsmen and did an excellent job of cutting and setting the pavers.
Description of Work: Installed a border of pavers around a 2 car parking pad.

Everything went well from start to finish. Kevin detailed all work to be completed in his proposal. He and his crew were professional, hard-working and easy to communicate with during the entire process. I am extremely pleased with the final result--my front entrance looks better than ever.
Description of Work: (1) Demo and disposal of existing, 10-year-old front porch and steps (which cracked beyond repair). (2) Design and build new porch and steps. A computer-generated plan was included for the new design. Porch and steps built with a strong foundation. (3) Point-up brick walkway leading to front entrance. (4) Acid-wash all masonry during clean up.

Kevin set up a time for an estimate and arrived promptly. He looked over our brick steps and porch. He told us that the porch was in good shape and only the steps needed to be replaced. We needed the work completed before August and Kevin assured us it would be done. Kevin brought brick samples that closely matched our existing brick. Finding something to match 40 year old brick wasn't easy but he did it. Once the work started Kevin came to the site every day to keep an eye on the job and to let us know what to expect next. Demolition took longer than expected (about two days) because there was a lot of rock (but not a full foundation) under the old steps. Overall the project took about 7 work days. We're very pleased with the results and communication throughout the project was excellent. Kevin is very conscientious - if he promises something he does it. The only problem my husband had was having to wake up at 7!
Description of Work: 40 year old brick steps were removed and new ones installed. Two concrete sections of walk were replaced.

Kevin came out and gave us an estimate. He listened to our needs and then offered some suggestions. His pricing was very reasonable for the work involved. Once the work began, all of the employees were very nice and respectful. They cleaned up the job site well each evening. We are very pleased with our finished product. Very nice job!

Ken, the owner of the company, responded promptly when called for an estimate. He followed up by showing me examples of his work and bringing me brick samples. He was able to schedule the work within 2 weeks. His crew was polite professional and neat. The work was completed in the time promised. All trash and debris were removed. Landscaping was not damaged.
