"I will be contacting Angie's list to have this removed as it is not a valid review. No work was performed and no services were provided to a client that does not leave a name or a real address. If you are interested in bath or kitchen remodeling please read reviews in which we have actually worked with the client this is a bogus review and completely false. Certainly not indicative of our business in the least bit. its unfortunate someone has nothing better to do than to try and ruin a company's excellent reputation simply because Angie allows them to write anything without validation."
"Thank you for taking the time to review. We really appreciate it."
attentive to our needs, worked with us closely, allowed us to choose fixtures, tiles, appliances, we wanted and told us he would make it work. He turned a 100-year old house into a modern and functional home that we love to show
off. Finally, Steve is as trustworthy a professional as one can find, always giving a fair price and
continuing to provide support long after the last payment was made. The quality of the final product is beyond
belief. We are delighted with the finished product and recommend him highly.s.

"Thanks for your review. The deal was for 200 sq feet and we sanded and refinished 240 sq feet. a few days after the job was completed our billing department sent a bill out to client for additional 40 square feet. The client sent an email stating that we made a mistake in billing her additional 40 square feet. We responded by saying what ever additional amount we billed her is no longer due and that she did not owe us any additional money. She thanked us for the quick response. Over a year later this review pops up. In going back through clients file, all aspects of the job were very smooth, the job turned out great, scheduling and clean up were great and there were no issues. Thanks again for your review"
Bottom line, Steve and his team stayed on budget and finished ahead of schedule! I couldn?t be happier with the level and quality of service delivered. Steve will be my first call when it?s time for our next project!
"Thank you for the nice review. It was a pleasure working with you. Best of luck in your new home!"
"We explained exactly what happened as to the scheduling issue. Appt was for 4:30 and schedule coordinator had estimate set for 5:30. We then called 7 times with out a response, then even stopped by and left a card, and followed up on the Angie's list portal as well. We apologized and offered a sincere apology. Apology was not accepted. Just so potential clients understand we never did meet this client or perform any services for her. Once again we do apologize for the scheduling conflict on the appointment. good luck to the client on getting the services she so desired. Please read reviews of the work that has been completed for a better idea of our quality of work."
Updating overall grade to B, bordering C, based on quality of work and the provider's unprofessional responses to our review. Just learned from a different contractor who is constructing a screened porch and deck for us that we have a fire hazard (yes, a FIRE HAZARD) on our hands. The under cabinet wiring was run incorrectly behind the siding of our house where they (Chevy Chase) had placed cardboard (even as "inexperienced" as I allegedly am, I know bad wiring + cardboard = house go bye-bye), and they (my current contractor) will have to tear off the siding running the length of the kitchen and rewire all of the under cabinet lighting in order to fix the issue and pass inspection, since, as it is now, it would "definitely not pass". So, it seems that looks aren't everything. If this corner was cut, what other shortcuts were taken? Before this, I would've just said that I wouldn't use Chevy Chase again. Based on the fact that we have, unbeknownst to us, been living with a fire hazard since April, the additional cost we now need to pay our current contractor to fix Chevy Chase's oversight/laziness, and the provider's unprofessional comments since posting our obviously too generous initial review (see below), now I will adjust my recommendation to "Not only would I not use them again, but I wouldn't recommend anyone else to either".
As far as using them for an exterior project shortly after they completed the kitchen project, the back of our house looked hideous after they took out the sliding glass door and installed a regular door so we wanted it addressed with new siding as soon as possible. We added new roofing, gutters, and shutters to maintain a cohesive look. We did not want to spend the time or have the hassle of vetting several other contractors, and figured exterior work is pretty straightforward.
To the note about being inexperienced, yes this was our first major reno so if our suggestion to move the fridge into the house after the removal of the sliding glass door was not preferred or feasible, then fine; that should have been stipulated when we made the suggestion before work even started. Not just agreed to as it was, and then we were left wondering why the fridge remained in the garage. It is just another example of poor communication. Seriously, putting the blame on the client because they are inexperienced with a massive home renovation project?? Since when does a customer need to have the experience? That's what the provider is hired to provide.
Also, might I add, the unprofessionalism of the provider was made clear when he sent me an email after my initial review that started out "Just had a client cancel a contract that was signed yesterday because he read your review. He said he can't afford to have the problems that you had on your job. An 85000 dollar complete renovation." To receive this after simply writing an honest review on Angie's List was appalling to us. The tone and announcing the fact that he lost a 85000 contract over my review (which I highly doubt was the only motivating factor there) were uncalled for and a blatant example of this provider's inability to accept any constructive criticism; apparently I should have just lied in my review and answered "Yes" to the question of if I would use them again, and also not included any negative points.
And, I might as well add, according to the contract, the approximate work was to be performed in 6 weeks. Actual project timeline: 3 and a half months. So, as you can see, I exercised a significant amount of restraint in my initial review. I only highlighted a few areas of improvement to explain why I gave them an overall "A" but still answered "No" to the Angie's List question of if we would ever use them again. There were many, many more difficulties, hiccups, and examples of frustration that we experienced throughout the process that we did not include in the initial review and have not included in this update.
In conclusion, it turns out that my initial review was too generous; however, it was completely honest. If the provider can't handle this type of honest feedback (as demonstrated by this "defensive" response and two equally defensive emails he sent after the initial review posted) and see it as an opportunity to improve his business, then that's too bad and they need some serious training in customer service.
Now we have to hire a professional to ensure everything was installed correctly and no other shortcuts were taken. Something tells me that what lies beneath the surface won't be as pretty. Please feel free to reach out to me directly via message if you have any questions about our experience.
Initial review: 24 August 2015
Overall, it went well. The work was completed as promised, and the first level is literally gorgeous. However, the process could've gone a lot smoother and there was plenty of room for improvement in terms of organization and communication. We were not provided with a schedule of events or a list of what to select, when we needed to have it selected, and where to select it from at the outset of the project. Therefore, when Steven would send an email asking whether we selected a certain material since it was needed for the next step in the process, we would be like "ummm...no...we didn't get the memo that we needed to have that selected now..." so we often found ourselves scrambling in the middle of the work week trying to figure out how we could get to the tile place or a granite place as soon as possible, so as not to hold up progress.
An example of where communication could've saved some time and effort on the part of the crew was the fact that we suggested to Steven before the project began that the new large refrigerator be brought into the house when they removed the sliding glass door and before they installed a regular three-foot door and sealed the rest of the opening, since we knew the fridge was too large to get in the house any other way. Well, that advice was not passed along to the crew and the process was delayed several days when they had to call a repair service to remove the fridge doors so it could be moved into the house. Another lowlight was when our newly installed washing machine sounded like a space shuttle during take-off and literally walked itself into the kitchen every time we tried to wash a load of clothes. We voiced our concern to Steven and the crew supposedly addressed the problem by balancing it; however, this did not help. We called the manufacturer, who sent out a technician and it turns out the shipping bolts had not been removed (step one on the instructions; it was even emphasized with pictures...). In the final stages of the project, everything was wrapping up and we asked when they would install the under-cabinet lighting; turns out it was forgotten about and we had minimal time to select what type of lights we wanted and the electrician had to get creative to wire the lights; fortunately, they could run the wiring outside since the new siding hadn't been installed. Talk about stressful...
Anyway, in the end, all issues, minor or otherwise, were resolved one way or another. Steven is a nice guy and very personable, and his crew and subcontractors are skilled in their work (shipping bolts oversight aside). It seems odd to be giving a contractor an A but saying that we won't use this provider in the future. To explain, I'm giving Chevy Chase an A (an A minus to be exact) for the final outcome (our first level is stunning); however, we won't be using this provider for our second level because seriously we need more organization/meticulousness/communication in our life.
"I must say I was shocked reading this review. A few things come to mind when reading through the review. 1. The client mentions multiple times the work looks stunning and gorgeous. This makes me feel good knowing that my crew was able to complete a large renovation to the point the client will say in the end that it looks stunning and gorgeous. 2. The client mentions that she would not use us again. In the review there is no mention of this, when the construction on the inside of the home was completed and paid for. The client entered into a contract with my company to complete approximately 25-30k exterior renovation which went without a hiccup.(complete roofing, siding, trim, and gutters) this seems inconsistent with the review of not using us again when we were hired for a second project at the completion of the first contract. 3. The client mentioned that a few emails surprised them when they were told they needed to select certain items, specifically the items mentioned were tile and granite. This does not seem completely accurate because the client looked at the kitchen cabinets prior to the start of construction and at that time was also provided several granite samples to consider. The tile selection needed would have resulted in the completion of the job. Meaning the last item to do in the kitchen was the tile backsplash. So nothing would have been held up by waiting for the tile selection. I understand that every single aspect of the project did not go perfect, then again in my 20 years of doing construction rarely does everything take flight with out a few hiccups. However when a problem came up we always had a solution. Not understanding construction also could lead a client to provide displeasure, for instance when the client mentioned that we should have brought in the refrigerator when we opened the wall to move a door in the very beginning of the project. This would have meant that a new large refrigerator be placed in or close to the work area instead of in the garage until we were ready for it. The solution was to bring in an appliance specialist to remove the doors and install the refrigerator at the end. Which way would you had preferred if you were the client or would it really had mattered. I wish the client would have shared some more of the positive items with potential clients rather than harping on the few mishaps. Keep in mind we opened up rear wall of home, relocated a door, ran new plumbing, ran new gas. Ran new electrical, knocked out walls, installed drywall, installed cabinets, installed granite, installed washer/dryer, installed appliances, ran crown molding, installed baseboards, installed wood flooring, installed roofing, installed siding, installed gutters, installed garage doors, installed garage door openers, painted through out, installed exterior and interior doors, installed doorbell, installed tile and a few other items. To provide all this work and have the client complain about a washer and dryer installed with out removing shipping screws and a refrigerator having to have doors removed to be installed. I don't know if I could have humanly done better. One might ask why do I seem so defensive in my reply. As you can see I take pleasing my clients very serious. This was a case where I expected a positive review and in my opinion other than the grade, the review seems not indicative of the work."
"Thank you for taking the time to give us such a nice review!"
We purchased a house that had some bad history. The basement was finished at one point in time, but no permits were obtained and when the county found out, all of it was ordered ripped out. When we got to it, nothing remained except electrical, plumbing and ducting. But we quickly learned that the previous contractor did a lot of things incorrectly and not pursuant to code.
Steve and his crew quickly got to work. He obtained the necessary permits, architectural drawings and had it set up ready to go from day one. Throughout the entire process, Steve was always looking out for my best interests, construction-wise, design-wise and wallet-wise. There were speed bumps along the way, but they were to be expected with so many things going on. I mean, come on, they transformed an empty 1,250 sq ft space into a beautiful basement with a huge family room (they took down a wall dividing 2 spaces and put in a support beam across; no posts, completely open), full bathroom, bedroom, office, laundry room and storage. They had to fix all the bad plumbing and electrical.
We were very hands on; designing, picking out materials and making changes along the way, and Steve was very patient and understanding with us. We finished a bit over budget, but that was due to changes we made and things that no one could have predicted, unless you have xray vision and can detect bad plumbing hiding under the cement. In the end, we are extremely happy with the end product and we could not have gotten there without Steve and his crew at Chevy Chase Remodeling.
