"Certainly an unfair assessment. Met with client and emailed a quote with all details and several reference letters to client. The client informed me that he could not read the attachment. I'm not sure what happened as it was simply a MWord document that was opened 99.9 % of the time. Once we got word the attachment was an issue our main office snail mailed an estimate to the client. This is the first correspondence since the snail mail was mailed out. We wish the client success on the remodeling of his bathroom and we were certainly not thrilled that the time spent in estimating and drafting the proposal went in vain based on a computer attachment malfunction. We enjoyed meeting the client and very much looked forward to providing a quality remodel, as typically done so by our firm."
"First off this was definitely supposed to be a simple painting and flooring project with a few other misc items to be completed. My painting crew and flooring crew were micromanaged throughout the job by the client so much they both asked if I could send another crew because they did not want to return, The client complained about the time it took to complete the job. We worked tirelessly into the night some days, to complete the job. Some Sundays included, however there were obstacles such as client stating" before I select the floor color can you put test samples and not do anything until I see the colors and make a decision".Or had us install a fixture only to tell us to take it down and relocate it. In addition the client tried on numerous occasions to have the crew do things out of scope free of charge without my knowledge. The client treated us as if we were second class citizens, so much so the crews were intimidated and nervous to work for her. The client was very slow to pay, even to this day the project has not been marked paid in full according to the contract and multiple change orders back and forth. I can sum this review up for anyone trying to get the gist of this project. The client chose white marble countertops, white subway tile and black grout. Then asked us to paint the grout white in different places. When the black grout seemed to get on the marble, that was labeled as our fault. Please see the image below. This was a customer that was unreasonable to say the least. In a conversation with her husband, it was noted that the husband said in attempt to wrap things up in a phone conversation " I know my wife is not the easiest person to deal with" which made me realize it was not just us who realized the obstacles we were up against. Half way through the project the client asked if we could build a bookshelf unit, I initially said I would price it out. However after seeing how difficult the client was I declined to take that job, knowing that would also be a nightmare. If I had a crystal ball, this would be the type of job I would stay 1000 feet away from, unfortunately I didn't. In the end the photos of the job were stunning and the flooring job brought back a dated floor. Our reputation speaks for itself and unfortunately this will not look great on our report card, however I urge anyone interested in hiring us to read more reviews. Out of our 151 reviews and 8 years of Angie's List service we have managed to keep an Overall Straight A record. This is a job that I simply was not able to satisfy the client no matter what or how I handled it. Anyone interested in seeing the photos from the finish product please email me and I will send you the photos of the final product. The client has a beautiful home and we sure hope she can enjoy it."
"Thanks for the review. We spoke to client and told her we would be sending an email with the links for the color to be selected. A week went by and we did not hear from the client. We assumed she was taking her time selecting. Turns out the email with color links went to her spam folder. Noted that during initial conversation the client asked if we could remove solar panels for her pool. We responded yes. Perhaps she thought she was helping us by having the panels removed. With Thanksgiving and a rainy week the shingles took about 1 week from time we received color to get to her place. Causing her to panic a bit with holes from the removal of the solar panels. I did offer to patch holes, but she said she had it covered. All went well, and the roof is ready for the winter!"
"Thank You for the review. When we showed up to do the job for the client she informed us that she had a lung issue and we mentioned that the oil based was more durable and last longer however the fumes may cause issues with her health. She decided on the water based after we presented all the facts and options to her. We received a call from her and her husband shortly after stating that the dog had scratched the floors already and what could we do about it? Based on the tone it seemed as if the option she wanted to hear was to redo the floors at no additional cost in oil base. You can only imagine we would not be in business very long if we provided free services for clients. I believe the quality was excellent and the price was based on a deal that was purchased by the client online site unseen. Perhaps had we completed the floors for a second time at no cost and the decision to do oil based was made by the client initially, this would have been a straight A review. We stand behind our work, however we do have to charge for the services we provide."

"This was a 349.00 wood floor deal. We drove 1 hour to Waldorf to measure the area and at that time determined that what the client wanted was not going to work. A phone call that evening included a discussion regarding possibly providing a different service that would include a totally different scope of work in a different location. The deal was not paying us to drive a second time 1 hour to measure another location. The client simply did not want to hear that. Despite not working with the client on this project. Hopefully a vendor closer can provide services needed."
"This was merely a misunderstanding of when the work was actually scheduled. The client was informed that the job would be scheduled the week of the 14th. We would call to confirm as all of our smaller big deal projects are scheduled. The morning of the 14th, the client called in yelling, screaming and blurting out offensive unprofessional comments. One has to understand when scheduling construction 3-4 weeks out it's merely impossible to predict how the jobs previously scheduled will take shape. Making it impossible to schedule the exact date so far in advance. Therefore we can predict an approximate and schedule "the week of" however to commit to a day 4 weeks in advance is just not possible. 99% of our clients completely understand as they would not want to have their project abandoned prior to completion because we needed to leave to do another project. The actual reality is finish the project your working on then move to the next. All readers looking for reviews in which we have done actual work, please scroll through our reviews and take a look at the reviews in which work was completed. We did not do a single bit of work pertaining to this review. More shouting and screaming on the telephone took place in lieu of actual work. The client indicated in the review that work was completed. We never made it that far which could have been a blessing in disguise. Despite the negative experience, we do thank the client for providing feedback."
"Thank your for business and your positive review. We appreciate it and hope you enjoy your updated kitchen!"
"Thanks for the review. I'm curios as to why we would receive a C. We simply drove to your home and measured the area and it was 5 times as much as what the deal was for. We provided a price for the additional and you declined because you said you could not [Member Information Removed] the additional [Member Information Removed]. We said ok and that was the end. How does that [Member Information Removed] to a Grade of C? Seems so unjust! Thanks for the review at any rate."
It has been about 14 months since the addition was completed, and when we had a problem with the newly-installed HVAC this week, we called Chevy Chase Remodeling. After only a few quick phone calls, we were set up with someone to come out and fix the problem this evening, after hours. After all the bad experiences with contractors we have had, we were almost surprised to find someone who stands by his word, but we truly have.
It went horribly.
The provider mistakenly sent their estimator on the
wrong day. Here is his email to me:
CHEVY CHASE REMODELING 4 hours agoGood morning, we set and confirmed appt. for this morning at 10:00 am and I drove here from Rockville, Md. To meet with you. I wish you had more respect for my time. Complete waste of time and money driving to your home. Steve
I responded:
2 hours agoGood Morning, Our appointment is for tomorrow, Friday, April 1 at 10 am. I have it on my calendar. I would not have made an appointment for any other weekday because I WORK in D.C. Don't you feel foolish now, acting all rude and accusatory! Shame on you. Good luck to you.
What type of business responds this way to customers? Answer: one that will not be in business very long.
"Thanks for your review. I the owner actually set the appointment for Thursday and the client was a no show. The frustration of driving through traffic and waiting at the home for a no show was quite frustrating and wasteful. We are going on our 23rd year in business. In addition this a client who wrote a review and never met us or had any work completed. If your a client looking for work to be performed I encourage you to read reviews from clients whom have met us and had work completed by us."
Steven and Jenny were excellent about keeping in touch with us throughout the process, both with respect to timing of work and pricing. We had no idea what we would find once we opened up the drywall, and they were great about showing us and explaining to us best next steps and alternative solutions. We probably had four different crews at our house at various times: carpentry; roofing/patio; painting and drywall; and flooring. All of the crews were very professional: we had a pretty big project but they kept it very contained so that it did not interfere with day to day life or the rest of the house. They were very tidy with respect to the work space and any exterior debris. Also, when Steven said the crews were coming, they showed up on time every time.
We have been thrilled with the quality of the work. Our new patio floor is lovely and matches our house perfectly. Steven spent a lot of time researching the best material for us to use as both a patio floor as well as the roof to our family room. We could have retiled but he helped us find a less expensive but just as effective alternative. We are very happy with the stucco-style result and our family room is nice and dry. Our family room is also unusual in that it is essentially a half circle with lots of curved surfaces. The drywall repair and painting looks amazing--as though there never was a leak. Because our formal living room was also affected by the leaky patio, it now has a beautiful new custom sliding door (Steven helped us find a good quality but not too expensive custom door) and gorgeous refinished floors--they are as smooth and shiny as a piano top. Every aspect of the project came out beautifully!
We have a number of other projects we will want to tackle in the next couple of years. We would be very very happy to work with Chevy Chase Remodeling again in the future.
