This was nothing more than a miscommunication. The clients profile contains an address in which the estimator assumed was the address that needed a new roof estimate. The actual property the client needed an estimate on, was a rental property. The clients home is a large house and did not fall under the 2000 square foot deal, needless to say when we figured out the correct address to provide an estimate for we proceeded to provide an estimate on the correct address which does fall under the 2000 square ft deal. The review is very harsh and depicts a much different scenario than what actually occurred. We never met with this person in fact never got an opportunity to actually provide an estimate on the correct address. Advice to members, in the notes of the estimate request, if the address is different then the address on your profile, please note it. In this case it would have prevented this from happening.

They were very patient and helpful with all of the issues that were present while replacing my roof and gutters. I had 2x6 boards, rather than plywood, as my roof substrate and a large amount was rotted out. They spent extra days on the project, communicated very well and sent pictures. The extra items I requested, the wood replacement (including all the gutter attachment boards) and some cracked cedar siding were taken care of well and for a reasonable price.

We first used Chevy Chase Remodeling for a small bathroom remodel in the summer of 2017. After a positive experience with Steve, we decided to use them for a full house remodel at a new property. The extensive remodel included a two story addition (garage and bedroom), outdoor landscaping, installing a gas fireplace with built in shelving and the complete gut and remodel of the kitchen, basement, four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. The workmanship throughout the entire job was exceptional. Their designer David provided innovative solutions that allowed us to open up the main level floor plan and redesign the kitchen layout. His plans for the addition were exactly as we envisioned. Steve and his team were quick to provide a solution to issues encountered in the remodel and were extremely accommodating. Chevy Chase Remodeling truly transformed this property into our dream home!

Very well. Steve and the crew were very responsive, and handled every issue promptly and efficiently. I was particularly impressed with their willingness to return to the project and provide additional tweaks and adjustments. In other words, they didn't disappear once the check cleared.

Very good!!! We had to get full roof replacement to our main house and a two level, two car garage family room roof. Our house is located downtown silver spring. Chevy chase remodeling responded to our email request on time and gave us the best price with labor and material warranties. We glad we chose Chevy chase remodeling for this project b/c we had very limited time to replace the roof b/c of insurance requirement. The Chevy chase remodeling team are so professional, they did the job on time and even in the hardest weather. Chevy chase remodeling crew deserve all kinds of respect for their hard work, professionalism and dedication. Me and my wife amazed by their everyday performance fixing our house roof. Chevy chase remodeling have a trustworthy, courteous and hardworking group of craftsman. The end was everything and more than we hoping for and the cost is worth it in the end. You made our family very happy and proud of our new roof. We enjoyed working with all of Chevy chase remodeling team. We would definitely use Chevy chase remodeling again and would recommend you and your company without reservation.‎ Thank you, thank you and THANK YOU!!!‎

Stephens team of three workers spent 10 days gutting and refinishing our basement. They were always on time and went above and beyond expectations and never said “no”. We were thrilled with the results and would definitely recommend Chevy Chase Remodeling and will use them in the future for all our remodeling needs.

Steve DePollar is quick to say that his crews are very experienced in all phases. He is never on time, sends crews in without materials, promises dates that he does not keep, fails to order materials until the date they are to be installed, pulls necessary employees off for other sites where he needs them for things he promised other customers. He was fine with a simple task of a roof replacement but in multistage Work he does not seem to TrueLy have the capacity. When we tried to discuss some short comings he lost his temper raised his voice kept interrupting and finally stormed out. There is an issue with lights that burn up switches. One wall that was to be made true for tile is actually out of true by 1/4 in a six foot distance making tile not right. Another wall only 4 feet tall in the shower is out of true by 3/4 inch making it even worse. The hydronic floor does not work at all and never has. We hired another company to inspect the floor. Rather than pull up the tile floor they removed a portion of the ceiling of the room below. The workmanship is shoddy, incomplete, ineffective and it is obvious that his people have never done work like this before even though I asked specifically. Comparing photos of his work with many sites on the internet shows how incompetent the product is, aside from the statements from two other contractors. He states that the work is complete and has hired an attorney. I requested copies of the licenses for the plumber and electrician through his attorney. There has been no reply or even an acknowledgement of the receipt from the attorney. It is most certainly because no license exists. I discovered that he general contractor license was issued September 30, 2017. He had been soliciting for my business for 11 months before that date. I looked him up on mylife.com and saw a notation to the effect that his license expired. I requested a copy of the license prior to the one issued in September from his attorney and again no response.
Description of Work: Completely remodel bathroom with towel warmer, radiant hydronic heat within the floor, new tile on floor, new bath shower, new tile in bathe shower, true the floor and walls, new shower light, new exhaust fan, new toilet, new vanity, move entrance way out about three feet, remove radiator.

In this day and age clients have the ability to attempt to inflict damage through providing reviews, when in some cases its also a platform where we as contractors have an opportunity to provide horror story's of dealings with homeowners. This is a repeat client who initially contacted us, WE NEVER Solicited any business to. We were called in through ANGIES LIST and as everyone knows you can not advertise on Angies List without having proper license, insurance and documentation to do so. Regarding the job, this started out as a simple bathroom remodel that the client turned into a horror story. The final contract was sent over for signature on October 17, 2017 at 3:30 PM. The client asked that we phase the job out and added additional work to the scope.Phase 1 went perfect which I have emails and pictures from the client bragging on how beautiful the job looked and how I should use the photos he sent for future marketing. Phase 2 started and it went very smooth as the Mrs. Was out of town, perhaps had she showed up around completion time instead of mid way through completion I would not be responding to anything other than a nice review. She was unrealistic, had unreasonable expectations. She was condescending, sarcastic and treated people as if they were beneath her in many ways. As the job progressed we were asked the additional cost to provide wainscoting on the walls, and oh yeah the client decided to bring in a different contractor to provide wallpaper, and oh yes how can I forget the client also brought in another contractor to install a window that lay dead center of our project. You can imagine trying to schedule though the client to bring in several other folks to work on items that directly impact your work could be somewhat of a setback. However, I was always blamed for these types of delays. So let me tell you how I tried to help. We were provided a picture of the wainscoting trim from a magazine and we matched perfectly only in the areas that could be completed, because remember we had to wait for their window company to come and install the window. So because the client had to use the bathroom at night we installed the toilet prior to finishing the wainscoting while we waited for other people to show up. We were to return on the Tuesday after thanksgiving to resume because we had reached a point where we could not work while waiting for their other items to be completed by others . At this stage the tile was completed and an email on 11/27 at 12:56 stated "the tile is nice and everyone that has seen it, is very impressed" Monday morning when the wall paper person was due in apparently he got sick and never showed up, well you know that means we can't work on Tuesday because the wall paper was not going to be completed. Any one who does scheduling or has any common sense knows, that throws off my schedule completely and with other projects and commitments could cause reason for concern. Is this going to be ready Wednesday or Thursday because our tight schedule we laid out was to return on Tuesday. Well we eventually got blamed for this mishap as well. They emailed on Tuesday saying they would be ready for us on Wednesday. We showed up Wednesday morning and proceeded to work. There was no vanity to install so the client asked us to install the old pedestal that was removed and saved, we agreed to provide all the parts and plumbing labor so the client would have a sink and faucet to wash there hands while we wait for the vanity that they ordered and was not delivered at the time we were ready to install it. Another example of how we accommodated the client FOR FREE. We also worked tirelessly on the day after Thanksgiving, and that Saturday following. We normally don't work on The Friday after Thanksgiving or Saturday's unless we're trying to accommodate a situation. The house was built in 1927 so anyone with construction knowledge knows that trying to make everything level is a near impossible task, in addition the floor heat was entirely different situation in itself. The plumber explained to the client the way the hydronic floors should be run, and it was the client who refused the actual recommendation for fear that the floor would get too hot and asked that a T be installed to separate a towel warmer and floor heat off the same run. We followed his request( probably a mistake) and now he is saying the floors don't get hot. Now keep in mind this is hydronic heat not electrical. There is a difference in omitting heat and emitting heat. The client chooses to keep his boiler at 63 degrees, one with any knowledge of hydronic heat could see why the floors don't feel toasty warm. There are several clients that we have done this flooring for, names and numbers for any interested person. The statements herein of this review are down right false. Our crew not once never showed up, and was always on time. In fact, Mr. called and asked that the crew come without stopping for breakfast 1 morning as he said he was so happy with there work that he wanted to actually buy them breakfast. Sound strange after reading the review? Really I could go on and on but let me choose to share a few bullet points that may help anyone understand a few things. * We offered to address any outstanding concerns, I simply asked for it to be after a few days of spending time with my mother who has Lung Cancer. He emailed repeatedly during the time in which I requested a few down days, when the response was not timely enough he started mentioning attorney and punitive damages. He stated 8 hours was not enough time to respond. * there is a balance of over 5,000 dollars that we have not been paid * I hired an attorney not only to collect, but to communicate a resolution at which time the client proceeded to ignore the resolution offers and chose to concentrate on my licensing. * There are 3 issues that we knew needed to be addressed, the heated floors which we were willing to come in and address, a door that needed a slight adjustment, and a light switch that THE CUSTOMER purchased that needs to be replaced. *the plumber was asked to fix a leak that had nothing to do with us in his kitchen We did FOR FREE **The review mentions 40,000 job. With out including change orders, we received a grand total of approximately 12,000 for this job. The 40,000 figure is a false number. **Toward the end of the job we attempted to take pictures of this amazing bathroom and we're prohibited from taking photos. We were told wait until the shower door was installed and they would forward pictures to us.I was able to take a few prior for anyone interested in seeing the outcome. ** The Mrs sent an email asking where did I order her trim from, well I did not have a [Member Information Removed] where I ordered it because I drove to several different habitat for humanity store locations and located the EXACT SAME 100 year old trim, fully restored the wood, primed, painted and installed it to match the rest of the house. And oh yes did this FOR FREE. * the client bragged to the crew about how they sued various contractors as if it was an enjoyable task. * Husband and wife argued, screamed and yelled at each other in front of the crews, at one point the crew called and said they wanted to leave because they were very uncomfortable working in the home while this was taking [Member Information Removed]. *there were a total of 200 emails sent from client to my company pertaining to work, materials etc and when a response was not provided quickly over 100 more phone calls were received. Long story short, the bathroom was gorgeous and completed in a timely fashion despite the hiccups not caused by us. The quality of work was fine, yes there were a few minor Punch out things and we were going to install a pump to accommodate the floor heat situation, however it just may be best to allow client to take the 5k owed and have it done by others as he has stated in the review he has apparently began that process. If you have read this far, you can see I do care, this is my livelihood and out of the several hundred online reviews you will quickly see that this review is an isolated situation for my small business. Does not reflect the True nature in which I conduct business.

Excellent experience from the estimate, explaining the options of shingles, underlament, vent pipe cover, winter guard, etc. All of the workmen were extremely polite and professional. They cleaned up the areas thoroughly each day. Quite a few of the boards in the roof itself were in very bad shape. They brought pictures down to us so that we might actually see the extent of the damage to the bare roof itself. As it turned out they had to replace nearly 500 feet of boards which required a huge pile of scrap each day which was removed thoroughly and a magnet bar was used to find any and all of the nails. I had obtained several estimates. Chevy Chase was not the most expensive nor the cheapest, but my confidence in the company and Steve Depollar grew with each contact. Everything that he had stated about the work, price, employees, clean up, quality of the products that were installed were done even better than he promised. We are moving ahead with other work on the home and definetely will be using Chevy Chase Remodeling. We have already received a proposal for remodeling of a bathroom. The price is very competitive. He has provided us with places to review all of the products we will need and has explained what we need to be aware of in our planing.

Stephen DePollar was exceptional and the team was extremely professional! We had a very serious bad first experience with a contractor previously and was very gun-shy. This project entailed our kids' bathroom -- floors were rotted out from water spillage so we had to gut it to remove mold and rot, to include sub-floors. Chevy Chase Remodeling was probably at least the 4th contractor we interviewed and we are so happy with the results. Stephen hand-walked us through the process, went above and beyond to meet with us and walk us through a tile source store to assist with selections, acquired each piece we had provided as an 'idea list', and offered expert recommendations if we weren't sure of what to choose which came together great. His team went above and beyond tracking down items on a Saturday that suppliers had out-of-stock to keep within timelines and to get the job completed even though our project schedule was very flexible. The work crew were so nice and friendly, smiles all around, self motivated and punctual, ensured everything was covered while working, and made a point of sweeping up at the end of each day. Understandably, every project is going to have some minor hiccups and no job is going to be 100% perfect, but Stephen was very quality-conscience and was readily available to provide a solution, fix, or resolve any issue immediately to ensure we were happy. The end result is beautiful and we would definitely use again!

Response from CHEVY CHASE REMODELING
In my 21 years of providing remodeling services I have come across many different types of projects and people. One thing evident by our flawless record with BBB and zero complaint history with the MHIC is that we stand behind our work. If there were repairs or problems directly related to our work a normal situation would include making the contractor aware and the items being repaired at no cost to the client. The last contact we had with the client was when we received the final check and they mentioned how nice the bathroom looked. This was a bathroom placed in an attic and a tub placed in a different room of the attic which also included a steam shower in a corner of the attic. In fact when 3 different glass companies arrived they refused to provide a solution to a steam shower door based on the uneven ceilings, the client was made aware and insisted we move forward with it. The client designed the bathroom. As things were realized the client tried on numerous occasions to have the crew do things that were not in the contract and not priced into the project. The crew was constantly reminding me of the multiple things the client wanted completed that I had no knowledge of. On a rainy day we noticed a leak from the roof. We mentioned it to the client and his response was since your doing the bathroom you should include the roof repair in the job. I said absolutely not and charged to complete the 3 story roof repair. As the job came to the end I started to deal with the Mrs. Which was much easier to manage. Also the job got started on a real sour note as the initial deposit check was returned for non sufficient funds causing a bit of chaos as the job started. Also made me a bit uncomfortable at the start. However we did not stop working when we realized the check bounced, we stayed on the job in good faith. If anyone wants to see the photos of the bathroom let me know. We build large additions, restore fire damaged homes, the statement that a bathroom was to big for Steve's crew is far fetched.

The quality of the work was excellent. The crew was easy to work with and I found the owner, Steve, to be very responsive to calls and texts. Some of the things I really appreciated: 1. Steve was very helpful in helping find solutions that would achieve a similar effect or style when what I had originally envisioned wasn't practical. For example, I had wanted a very open bathroom with clean lines with no shower curb and a glass wall, but no door. Structurally it wouldn't have worked and practically (water everywhere) it wouldn't have been ideal. Rather than him saying "I don't think that will work", he took the time to try to figure out what my priority was and what I was trying to achieve and he identified a couple of solutions that would help get a similar result. We settled on a minimal curb with a long enough piece of stone to avoid having grout lines and a half-wall to avoid splashing outside the area while maintaining the openness of the bathroom. 2. The crew chief was very easy to work with, took the time to go through things with me often - especially when the walls were open - to make sure he was going in the right direction. He also personally spent a lot of time on details that I thought were important. 3. We had a couple of things that we'd noticed needed fixing after payment and it was easy getting responses from Steve to get one of his crew out to do the work. I know these are complex jobs with a lot of moving parts and so I wasn't surprised to have a couple things that they needed to come back on. I appreciate that they worked with me to make sure it was exactly right in the end.

I drove out to DC and met with the client and personally handed her a refund check of 99.00 for a design that she never recieved. After providing a refund I attempted to schedule for a designer to make a 2nd trip from the company to meet with the client. We simply have not had slots available for the time periods offered thus far. The most recent email which was received on 2/21 asking if this weekend would work to meet. After hearing back from our designer we were ready to confirm with the client a time for the weekend. Then we received this review. PLEASE EVERYONE UNDERSTAND NO WORK WAS COMPLETED AN ESTIMATE WAS NOT EVEN COMPLETED. So this review does not provide much substance as it does not validate any services provided. I Really wish Angie's List would not allow clients to review a business in which work was not estimated, started nor completed. I encourage you to read reviews in which we have completed the work. Ultimately our goal is to get to the finish line with a happy client as we have done over and over again. I wish this particular client good luck with the remodeling of her 5 x 7 bathroom.

Certainly an unfair assessment. Met with client and emailed a quote with all details and several reference letters to client. The client informed me that he could not read the attachment. I'm not sure what happened as it was simply a MWord document that was opened 99.9 % of the time. Once we got word the attachment was an issue our main office snail mailed an estimate to the client. This is the first correspondence since the snail mail was mailed out. We wish the client success on the remodeling of his bathroom and we were certainly not thrilled that the time spent in estimating and drafting the proposal went in vain based on a computer attachment malfunction. We enjoyed meeting the client and very much looked forward to providing a quality remodel, as typically done so by our firm.

The project was supposed to be simple, easy, and take three weeks. It ended up taking close to 2 months at which point I was pulling my hair out. Simply put, the GC was never on site and did not manage the project. The painters and flooring guys did an ok job and any issues with them could have been ameliorated if the GC stopped by to check on things. I found it very difficult to schedule even a weekly meeting with him. When I pointed out things such as sloppy paint lines or uneven etching on floors, I was told I was "too picky" and "would never be happy." I blue taped countless items that if any GC took 5 min to walk through project, should have had fixed initially. Particularly at the end, the site was a total mess. When I asked for the floor stain from my back steps to be cleaned up, the GC accused me of it being that way before project. When installing kitchen backsplash, black grout seeped into the new marble counters. Everything seemed difficult and contentious and it did not have to be that way at all.
Description of Work: We hired them to paint interior walls and ceilings, refinish existing hardwood flooring and install new flooring in kitchen, and minor electrical (swap out existing light fixtures and install dimmer switches).

First off this was definitely supposed to be a simple painting and flooring project with a few other misc items to be completed. My painting crew and flooring crew were micromanaged throughout the job by the client so much they both asked if I could send another crew because they did not want to return, The client complained about the time it took to complete the job. We worked tirelessly into the night some days, to complete the job. Some Sundays included, however there were obstacles such as client stating" before I select the floor color can you put test samples and not do anything until I see the colors and make a decision".Or had us install a fixture only to tell us to take it down and relocate it. In addition the client tried on numerous occasions to have the crew do things out of scope free of charge without my knowledge. The client treated us as if we were second class citizens, so much so the crews were intimidated and nervous to work for her. The client was very slow to pay, even to this day the project has not been marked paid in full according to the contract and multiple change orders back and forth. I can sum this review up for anyone trying to get the gist of this project. The client chose white marble countertops, white subway tile and black grout. Then asked us to paint the grout white in different places. When the black grout seemed to get on the marble, that was labeled as our fault. Please see the image below. This was a customer that was unreasonable to say the least. In a conversation with her husband, it was noted that the husband said in attempt to wrap things up in a phone conversation " I know my wife is not the easiest person to deal with" which made me realize it was not just us who realized the obstacles we were up against. Half way through the project the client asked if we could build a bookshelf unit, I initially said I would price it out. However after seeing how difficult the client was I declined to take that job, knowing that would also be a nightmare. If I had a crystal ball, this would be the type of job I would stay 1000 feet away from, unfortunately I didn't. In the end the photos of the job were stunning and the flooring job brought back a dated floor. Our reputation speaks for itself and unfortunately this will not look great on our report card, however I urge anyone interested in hiring us to read more reviews. Out of our 151 reviews and 8 years of Angie's List service we have managed to keep an Overall Straight A record. This is a job that I simply was not able to satisfy the client no matter what or how I handled it. Anyone interested in seeing the photos from the finish product please email me and I will send you the photos of the final product. The client has a beautiful home and we sure hope she can enjoy it.

The roofing job was excellent--good quality, good workmanship, nice result. The roofers were polite and courteous, and cleaned up well. Only suggestion - better communication on how long it takes to get shingles in, once selected. I did not find the e-mail for ordering and the original date had to be postponed. Not a big problem except I had solar panels removed, leaving holes in roof. Rain was predicted before roofers were to come so I had to scramble to get holes covered. It was partly my fault since I did not get the internet message in time. Phone calls would have prevented this.
Description of Work: I had an architectural shingle roof put on.

Thanks for the review. We spoke to client and told her we would be sending an email with the links for the color to be selected. A week went by and we did not hear from the client. We assumed she was taking her time selecting. Turns out the email with color links went to her spam folder. Noted that during initial conversation the client asked if we could remove solar panels for her pool. We responded yes. Perhaps she thought she was helping us by having the panels removed. With Thanksgiving and a rainy week the shingles took about 1 week from time we received color to get to her place. Causing her to panic a bit with holes from the removal of the solar panels. I did offer to patch holes, but she said she had it covered. All went well, and the roof is ready for the winter!

The scheduling was fineand they showed up on time. They finished the job in two days as they said. The only problem was that I put a water-based finish on the floor and in less than a week it's already scratched. Unfortunately they said I'd have to pay for a complete new job to do it with an oil-based finish which lasts longer but smells for up to 2 weeks.

Thank You for the review. When we showed up to do the job for the client she informed us that she had a lung issue and we mentioned that the oil based was more durable and last longer however the fumes may cause issues with her health. She decided on the water based after we presented all the facts and options to her. We received a call from her and her husband shortly after stating that the dog had scratched the floors already and what could we do about it? Based on the tone it seemed as if the option she wanted to hear was to redo the floors at no additional cost in oil base. You can only imagine we would not be in business very long if we provided free services for clients. I believe the quality was excellent and the price was based on a deal that was purchased by the client online site unseen. Perhaps had we completed the floors for a second time at no cost and the decision to do oil based was made by the client initially, this would have been a straight A review. We stand behind our work, however we do have to charge for the services we provide.

There was 2 or 3 instances were I feel they were trying to complete work that was inconsistent with county building codes as well as what the plans called for. In fairness, the project turned out well, and my wife and I are very happy with the results. Moreover, the contractor corrected all of the problems we encountered. Further, the design person that we worked with - David - was exceptional. He was very responsive and professional. Bottom line, the grades shown in this review reflect the problems we encountered.

They were very easy to schedule, arrived promptly, spent almost an hour with me and were very thorough. The estimate came back on schedule and they were quick to respond to my questions by email about the estimate. I have not yet decided to remodel or not but I have had a great experience so far.
Description of Work: I wanted a bid for a small bathroom remodel project.

We had a wonderful experience with Chevy Chase Remodeling from start to finish. We were eager to get the job started quickly, since winter was approaching, and we wanted it complete before commencing with some landscaping work. (No matter how careful your roofers are, a certain amount of material will end up landing in your mulch beds. Save the new landscaping for after it's all cleaned up.) Knowing our time frame, they were able to get us onto the schedule very quickly, and were patient with us as we dotted the i's and crossed the t's with our HOA. Both the home office and the on-site crew were knowledgeable and detail-oriented. There wasn't enough quantity of our particular shingles available locally, and they didn't want to mix dye lots, so they went the extra step of placing a special order and having the shingles brought in from out-of-state. I'm sure many contractors would have just mixed the lots and hoped for the best, so we were impressed that they cared so much about doing it right. Once the job began, the on-site crew members were courteous and professional, making sure to clean up after themselves each evening before leaving. The crew leader was happy to answer any and all questions we had, and both he and the home office were very good about letting us know what to expect each day and of any changes to the timeline. Any large home improvement projects comes with a few hiccups and some general inconvenience, but we felt that Chevy Chase Remodeling did everything in their power to make the job as painless as possible, and in the end provided us with a quality finished product. I'm sure we'll use them again for some other projects in the future.
Description of Work: We recently bought a home that needed to have the roof replaced. The existing 20-year-old cedar roof was not holding up well, and we wanted to get the work done before winter. The work included removal and haul-away of the old materials, and replacement with some fancy (and shockingly heavy) architectural asphalt shingles. They also replaced the felt paper, ice & water shield, drip guard, etc., etc.
