I just wanted to take a moment to recommend Hughes Landscaping for any difficult or larger project. [*** Link removed ***] 301-330-4949 John Hughes came highly recommended by many neighbors and was great to work with. While my 30 year old very high deck was in great shape at the top because of regular cleaning, sealing and maintenance, the supports holding it were rotting in the ground. Jacking up each support and replacing 14 of them safely and expertly was no mean feat. After the last two years of rain, my back yard beyond the deck posts was a steep and dangerous cliff. John built a well-engineered retaining wall the width of my property and with railing and hardscaping I have a lovely rear yard which is safe for adults and children now with beautiful woodland views. The improvement to our property is immeasurable. Anyone is welcome to come by and check it out. I have put off this project for years because it just seemed too complex and impossible.

They come every week, every Friday. I also use them for weeding, and that takes 3 or 4 days to get it done. They just come when ever they want.

Very well, as usual. We have used them for years and are very happy with their work.

They seemed alright, but they didn't seem as professional as other companies. However, they got out here quickly when we asked for an estimate and asked the right questions to figure out what we needed.

No notice of when workers would show up. They did a beautiful job. Wish they weren't so expensive. I have a very very small yard.

They were good. The landscape guy had a better understanding of landscape and other plants than other people that we solicited quotes from. He was responsive.

They were good and I like them. They get the job done. They're very frendly, informative, knowledgeble and they deliver on what they said they were gonna deliver.

The man from Hughes whom I met was prompt, professional, knowledgeable, and pleasant, but the resulting proposal was almost twice as high as the other bidder, which was equally professional and did a good job.

While Hughes may not be the cheapest (they are also not the most expensive), they have consistently done quality work for us. We have worked with Joe Schaeffer as the lead on our projects and he is always professional, punctual and makes sure all work is done correctly per the estimate. Joe has also been very helpful to us when we have been selecting plants for our yard as we have a significant deer problem. He has taken the extra time to determine which plants will do well in specific areas of our yard based upon light and aesthetics while keeping in mind what the deer are less likely to eat. We would highly recommend Hughes based upon our experience with Joe.

This company is fabulous! The property has a retaining wall that is approximately 65' long and 4' high. The wall was installed in order to level the yard so this is a major wall, not just decorative. Due to some inadvisable plantings the upper third of the wall for approximately 2/3 of the length had partially collapsed from the stress of the plantings. The collapse took down the wrought iron railing, the facing brick work, and caused the lower courses of the wall to lean even more than they had been. We provided Hughes with the original plans and discussed alternatives. They were very responsive to our desires and were able to provide a solution which did not require the demolition of the wall and the surrounding plantings. During the work they kept their materials contained in a small area. They disturbed as little of the gardens as possible. They were very concerned about matching the used brick that had been used to face the wall. When they were done the wall looked perfect! I am not sure how they did it but, without demolishing the lower, reinforced section of the wall, they were able to right it so that none of the wall was leaning any more. The brick they found matched. The new, higher drainage holes improve the construction of the wall. The team was professional and diligent.

They installed plants. They cleaned up my garden and they also installed drain pipes. They did a good job. They replaced the plants that were eaten by the animals in a couple of days.

We did not pursue the project far enough to offer useful information in this section.

We have used Hughes Landscaping for approximately 5 seasons. They are very prompt, we have never had to call them back, and our family and friends compliment us regularly on how well the property is kept (we help a little bit, but it is 90% Hughes Landscaping staff). It is also nice to work with a full-service company who can handle odd jobs that may come up. In addition to general landscaping they have also done sidewalk repair, drainage work, tree work (removal of fallen trees), and fence repairs (from the fallen trees).

Tim Gardner and his crew where prompt, came when they said, worked throughtout long hot the day and left the site clean each day. The quality of the original work (driveway reatining wall) led to other work. While Hughes was not the chpeaest bid we received they were very professional, did excellen work and I have no difficiult being a reference for their work with others.

Our experience w/Hughes was a really good one. Joe was prompt, professional, and created a nice design for our front landscaping. We have the problem of very little sun and lots of deer, and he was very helpful in finding & using plants that can thrive in shade and which are not appealing to the deer. They did the entire job in one day, and were neat and cleaned up thoroughly. We would definitely recommend them, and will use them again for any future landscaping needs.

The lawn mowing was prompt, but costly. Year after year I had to call to remind them to do the leaf raking. What's worse, the lawn declined in quality during the several years I had them under contract. I kept on complaining, but received no indication whatsoever that they were interested in fixing it. Avoid.

HUGHES STARTED THE PROJECT ON SCHEDULE, CLEANED UP THE AREA EACH DAY AND COMPLETED THE PROJECT ON TIME. THEY DID A BEAUTIFUL JOB. THE WORKERS WERE METICULOUS AND COURTEOUS.
