Universal Air Conditioning & Heat

I like them. The owner of the company came out and figured out the systems for them. They were very good. The owner of the company basically dealt with all my questions and needs. We figured out where the vents were going to be. It felt like a special treatment. I didn't want bulk heads. He didn't do all the work alone, he had help. He was hands on with it. He was very knowledgeable and really knew his stuff. I felt very confident with him heading the project.

Comparable price for services. Owner came out on a Sunday for repairs.

Overall went very well. Universal was prompt in coming out and diagnosing the problem. Tech did a repair to get us back in business and told us he would return in a week with the new part. It was closer to two weeks before we saw him again, but he replaced the part quickly and we have not had any trouble since. We have used Universal in the past, and will do so again as needed.

Crew arrived on time and spent the majority of the day removing the old unit and installing and testing the new unit. Substantial rewiring was needed in order to effect the replacement and upgrade. The company's owner came by toward the end of the installation to check on progress and quality of the work. He had also provided valuable guidance in advance of the installation in terms of choice of the optimal unit for efficiency and economy.

Our heatpump was not working. It is an older system and required a few trips to figure out the exact cause. I was impressed that they continued to look for the cause rather than telling me to scrap the system and get a new one.

Poorly - I only don't give an F because the company was responsive to setting up the estimate. I was not at home but my wife said he was friendly and on time.

It was one of those excruciatingly hot summer days when my air conditioning unit was not putting out any cool air. I called Universal thinking I would have to be put on a waiting list because I was sure that they had been overwhelmed with calls about units that were not working. Instead, they gave me an appointment that same day, and by late afternoon, it was up and running again.

Universal came out the day after a three-day holiday on an over 95 degree day to service our air conditioner. Chuck came out and was professional and informative. He immediately diagnosed our problem (clogged air filters-our fault) and remedied the situation. I have twin one-year olds, and not having air conditioning was getting uncomfortable, so finding a company that could come out on such short notice was a huge relief. I called several other companies that same morning, and didn't receive even a call back from either of them. I would definately use this company again. Thanks Chuck!

It was fine. I was really happy when we first had them. We had the owner come over the holidays to fix our furnace. As time went on and we wanted them to become our regular service provider, I didn't feel their scheduling or day to day operations were great. Sometimes it took a while to have them come out. I have since decided to use another provider.

Perfect, everyone with Universal is concerned about the customer. Perfect! I was able to work around my day and the repairs were done within an hour. This company provides an honest, real solution to my problem.

It was a very good work. I was referred to them by a neighbor and we had a positive experience with them. I haven't had any problems with the work since.

They do a good job. We have used them multiple times. They are very nice and they are here when they say they are going to be here. I don't feel we have ever been overcharged, I think they are priced reasonably. They are very honest.

This company was a NIGHTMARE! We had to take them to court because on two occasions, they gave me an estimate then added to it! The first time I let it go, but the second time I questioned the owner of the company and he became verbally abusive. The judge rulled against this company in my favor and the owner ripped up my check and threw it at me in the courtroom!!! When I relayed this info to other teachers in our faculty room, another teacher had had a similar experience! (The date of service is an approximation, can't remember the exact date)

I explained the problem and the sent the technician out promptly. The work was completed without delay. This company also services the heat and the airconditioning fall and spring. I have found that they show up as scheduled and complete their work timely.

After several warm days where my furnace had been turned off, the next cold day I went to turn my gas furnace back on and it wouldn't run. So after checking some minor things, I called Universal and left a message. They returned my call in minutes and said someone was coming back into my area and if I wanted they could meet me at the house in 20 minutes. Mike showed up with a smile, asked me to show him around and in 10 minutes diagnosed the problem. Something had gotten down into the fresh air intake pipe. Unable to dislodge the object, he located the precise spot where the object was and cut open the pipe. Sure enough, one of my son's balls had been rolled down there! UGH. He handed me the ball with a grin, said he had a 2 year old at home too, and replaced the pipe. Since it was an hourly job, he went ahead and checked out the entire system, made sure it would be running well for spring, and for $139 for an hour's labor and a $9 part we have a running furnace again.

I needed to replace my HVAC system (19 years old) due to corrosion on the heat exchanger, and energy efficiency. I obtained 3 bids, but really wanted to work with this company, as I have used them in the past, and they are local. Their original bid was higher than the others, but the owner was willing to work with me and we arrived at a fair price. I chose to go with a 90+ EFUE furnace and 17 SEER A/C. Installation was originally scheduled for December, but when I discovered there would be tax credits available in 2009 I pushed the date into January, which was no problem for them. They came out a day early to go over what needed to be done, and make sure they knew what parts were being removed, etc. They arrived on time for the work, a horrible, cold, rainy day, and had the entire furnace installed by 3pm. They had to return the next day to install the A/C condenser due to the rain. Clean up was immaculate, especially given the crowded conditions in our basement! Workers were friendly, professional and efficient. Heat works great! They will return in the spring to check the A/C; because it was so cold outside they could not cycle the unit on.

Overall it did not go well. I called the company because our air conditioning stopped working when the temperatures were in the low nineties. The company responded promptly. The service technician informed us that our compressor was bad. He also informed us that we could replace it, but due to warranty and other considerations, it would be better to replace the whole unit. We asked for an estimate. The installation estimate from the company for a 14 Seer R410A Ruud outdoor unit was $3,600.00 We consulted with another company. The technician discovered a capacitor that had blown out. This is such a common problem that he had the part on the truck. For a $20.00 part versus a $3,600 installation we had a functional air conditioning unit. Get a second and third opinion.
