K D Sweet Construction

We had recently bought a new home. Originally, I purchased this deal with the idea that he could repair the back wall of a shower in the basement which had leaked and become moldy. However, at about the same time that I purchased this deal I found out that the upstairs shower was also leaking. I knew that these items could not both be repaired in one day, however I hoped to hire Mr. Sweet to do both jobs knowing that I would need to pay for extra work. The first time Mr. Sweet came to look at the job he offered to come in the evening after I returned home from work. I told him I could not be home until 6:30 and he agreed to come at that time. Instead he arrived a 6:00, spoke with my wife, who did not know all of the details of what needed to be done, and left before I got home. When I spoke with him shortly thereafter, he said there was no mold in basement. Note that it was clearly visible and my concern had been confirmed by a plumber previously. The plumber had also said that the wallboard was the wrong type to use as shower wall backing. Mr. Sweet disagreed and said that it was the right type and therefore couldn't grow mold. He also said that he thought that the upstairs shower walls were fine, but that there was a problem with the faucet. Previously, the plumber had said that the faucet and piping was fine. Early in the process, Mr. Sweet said that he preferred to come several times for short amounts of time rather than coming for one full day of work and I agreed. Scheduling was a problem throughout the process as Mr. Sweet seldom returned phone calls and often when he answered the phone he would say that he would call back the following day - and then would not do so. However, to his credit, when he committed to a date he would show up that day. The upstairs bathroom was the higher priority. I convinced Mr. Sweet to re-grout the shower walls. When he did, he started by removing some caulk at the bottom of the wall and a bunch of water ran out of the wall - clearly the source of the problem downstairs, not an issue with the faucet. After regrouting the upstairs shower and confirming that the leak had stopped (he had previously cut a hole in the kitchen ceiling), Mr. Sweet said he would send some of his workers to repair the ceiling. After that, he said he would paint the kitchen ceiling. His workers did come as scheduled to repair the ceiling and put on a coat of primer paint. However, he never followed up with the ceiling painting. He also never followed up with the request to work on the basement bathroom and I ended up hiring a different contractor to do that work. That contractor also agreed that there was mold and that the wallboard was of the wrong type. To Mr. Sweet's credit, although the process took several months to complete (to the extent it was completed), he and his workers certainly put in more than 8 hours of total work and did not charge me for work over the 8 hours. I think the work that he completed was more than fair for the cost charged. However, although he verbally agreed to do additional work, he was not responsive to taking on the extra work. If I had known in advance that he did not want the work, I could have hired another contractor earlier and had use of the basement bathroom far earlier.

They showed up on time and they did a really good job. The only thing was they were supposed to get back to me on other work and they didn't get back to me.

Nothing to report, since the contractor ceased operations. If I could refrain from giving a letter grade I would, since I have little to go on.

The whole project was very well coordinated with each specialist coming in as needed to complete their part of the project. Everyone was very professional and clearly expert in their field.

The contractor was very busy due to a deal offered on Angies List, and was not able to come to do the work. I did not experience any negative issues with regards to communication. In fact, it was the contractor himself who asked me to request a refund.

Purchased the deal. Heard from the company. I indicated we weren't ready to get work done yet (we still needed to buy some fixtures). Several calls before and after Christmas and no results.

I contracted with Ken in August. We went back and forth about the date work needed to be started, and then I did not hear from him from August 25th until October 19th. When I replied back, he promised to be back in touch with me to start on October 23rd. He called and said he could not make it again on this date for some reason or another. I did not hear anything back from him until I emailed him again on December 17th asking for a refund of my Big Deal purchased, he then replied asking what dates are good to start. I replied the 27th, and again no response.

I decided not to use them. The estimate was definitely out of my price range. It was $800 for a 4x4 bathroom just to put in my flooring. It was fine and normal. They were professional. They called back a couple of times to see if I wanted to start the project. I told them that I couldn't afford it and I told them not to call me back.

The service was very good. They were very clean with the work. They did a good job and were good about cleaning up. They were happy to do anything that we requested. They also gave some guidance on a problem that we had as well.

Mr. Sweet came out to view the work that needed to be done, and he had great suggestions. We scheduled the work, but no one came or contacted me. I followed up via an Angie's List message, and he rescheduled. Once again, no one came and no one contacted me. My husband and I decided not to pursue getting the work done through K D Sweet since they weren't reliable about coming when scheduled or following up with us.

Two times said he'd get the estimate to me when I caught him on the phone-- I'm still waiting. Seemed like a nice man--too bad.

Ken and Bob (the main guy who worked here) were friendly, always willing to explain what they were doing, and very respectful of the house's historic character. Their work was meticulous. We were also having the house painted, and because the garage repair took so long, the two crews overlapped. Bob managed to work around the painters, so that everything could be finished before it got too cold to work outside. I hired this company because of an Angie's List special deal. I'd call them again in a heartbeat.

To put it simply, the provider, I believe, was just too overwhelmed with the responses he received from the Big Deal to work at my home. Under different circumstances, I think the outcome would have been better because the provider seemed to be a knowledgeable and capable contractor. The provider came by my home as scheduled and provided a detailed explanation of what the work entailed. After that initial meeting, it was extremely difficult to get a prompt response from him. There were too many instances when he promised to call and did not. I had to move on.

As soon as the work is done, I will gladly update the review.

I cancelled because my schedule was hectic, no problem with him.

The three man crew including the owner did a fantastic job. They are now our go-to guys for this kind of maintenance.

Everything was fine. They were very cooperative, very professional and very easy to work with. Their price was fine.

We scheduled for the contractor to to the work on September 16, 2013 at 7:30 am. He didn't show up at all. I called two or three times in the morning and left messages. He didn't call back until about 3:30 pm. He said he there had been a scheduling miscommunication on his side and that he would call back at 7:00 pm. He never called back.

Ken was very prompt on initial contact and scheduling of the work. However, I purchased 2 additional hours at $85/hour(paid upfront) and they needed to come back to finish the job. That's when it got very frustrating. I believe they were overwhelmed from the response to this daily deal. Ken would say he was going to look at the schedule and call me back on a certain day/night. and it didn't happen. It was a lot of frustration and I feel I got what I paid for on this daily deal. Never again!

Ken and his team arrived on time and walked with me through the work I needed done. They were very courteous, and Ken took the time to tell me what he was going to do fix the problems. He was upfront about any additional costs (they were very minimal) and additionally took some time to look at other potential projects I made need done in the future. There work was top quality and I was very pleased with the results. I had to leave for a meeting while they were at my house and when I returned about two hours later, everything was complete and cleaned up. They provided excellent work and excellent customer service. I would highly recommend them!

The team was excellent! They arrived on time, knew exactly what needed to be done and worked straight through until the job was completed. The new entry way is just gorgeous, due to their fine work. I would recommend them to anyone who needed contractor services. The owner, Ken Sweet stopped by twice to see the project-WOW I'm impressed. Thank you for a wonderful job done and so quickly.

K.D. Sweet Construction made a very favorable impression. The appointment was set up quickly, on the day of the job Ken showed up on time, and was prepared to start. Quality of the work was topnotch, and although I was using an Angieslist deal that had a specific number of hours of work, it showed that they were more interested in completing the job correctly than how long it took, but with that said they were very efficient and completed the work quickly and at a high standard. I would say they went beyond the call of duty as I didn't have all the necessary parts for one of the jobs but they took care of it anyway. I also had them trouble shoot another issue unrelated to the appointment and Ken showed his professionalism by going the extra mile to be helpful. I will certainly be using him/them again in the future and can recommend him without reservation.

Ken responded immediately to a promotion advertised on Angie's List. Ken arrived promptly and evaluated the job. I ran out of shoe moulding and he quickly made a trip to Home Depot to finish the job. Incorrectly installed moulding and flooring was brought to my attention and fixed. Very professional and his lead carpenter was also professional, efficient and detail-oriented.

In 2002 KD Sweet Construction Company added a sunroom to our home. It is a beautiful room which has been essentially problem free. Mr. Sweet designed and built this room. Some of the main features include the building of the deck, the framing of the room and a vaulted roof with six skylights. The roof was built as an extension to the existing house and made to match perfectly. Actually, the room appears to have been a part of the original house. The room has received numerous compliments. We recommend K D Sweet Construction for its superior workmanship.
