handyman service, heating & air conditioning/hvac, air duct cleaning
+ 1 moreDean Blake provided an estimate for air duct cleaning. Dean stated others would charge me $2000-$3000 for air duct cleaning. His estimate was 4 times the amount charged for this type of work. I had estimates from 3 other contractors. Further, I believe changing the filter on my heat pump was listed on the estimate to appear like more work. I was not ready to have the work done, yet he attempted to obtain a deposit of $500 to purchase materials. He stated the job was a 6 to 8 hour job, while others stated 60 minutes. When I informed him that I was not ready to have the air ducts cleaned for a few more weeks, he failed to complete smaller tasks for an earlier job which was paid in full. I am disabled and was ill when I hired him, and needed help. He took advantage of me understanding that I have a debilitating disease (Multiple Sclerosis). As I review the estimates from earlier work, I believe I was overcharged. Another report will be submitted regarding this work.
Description of Work: Dean Blake has performed handyman jobs in my home, and my initial assessment of him as fair and honest lead me to hire him for additional work. I planned to have my air ducts cleaned. Dean was contacted to provide an estimate for cleaning my air ducts. The tasks as he listed were: replace vents on first floor to match floor, replace vents on second floor clean out ducts spray inside and vacuum, and replace filters in furnace. (I have a heat pump and change my own filters).
