Dan arrived on time and called before he came. He was very nice and easily repaired the drain. He also gave us advice on a leak we're having with an interior pipe above our basement ceiling. We previously had Alpha out last year when we had a major leak going on with our the pipe leading from the street to our basement. They resolved it timely and professionally. I remember the total cost being reasonable for this service, but don't remember the exact amount. I put the price as a B because plumbing in general seems expensive and as Alpha are the only plumbers I've used don't have anything to compare their price with. I'd rather pay slightly higher price for them though because they're prompt, polite, and competent. Will definitely have them back out to fix our leak and any future plumbing issues.
Description of Work: Unclog drain and provide estimate on interior pipe repair. Previously had them replace incoming water line to the house.

The man I talked to on the phone (John) was very professional sounding and efficient. I gave him info on the existing pump and he ordered an equivalent pump quickly and sent someone out to install it. The work was very professional. Unfortunately, the pump, although new, was defective. It worked sometimes, but other times just buzzed. I called about the problem and they sent someone out the next day to replace the pump. All is fine now. I gave them a B on price only because the pump was sort of expensive - $442 for the part. It can be purchased on Amazon for $350, but I don't expect to get Amazon prices when working through a plumber.
Description of Work: Replaces a pump under a utility sink that is below the sewage grade.

The experience with Alpha was positive throughout the whole process, starting with the phone call to the office to set up the appointment. On the day of the appointment, Buddy, the plumber, called us from the road to give us his estimated time of arrival. He arrived within the time frame that was given to us and went right to work. He did a great job installing the fill valve that we had supplied to him. He also took it upon himself to replace the flapper, which was certainly ready for the scrap heap. He was certainly knowledgeable and worked quickly, efficiently and professionally. All seemed right with the world for a couple of days, but then I noticed a very slow drip coming from the location of one of the bolts that secures the tank to the toilet. This is the other issue that I mentioned above, where other tank components were shot and ready to be replaced, but these things may not have been readily apparent during the first plumbing visit. I made another appointment, and once again everything went very smoothly from calling the office to make the follow-up appointment, to Buddy coming out again to handle the work at hand. The faulty parts including, nuts, bolts and washers, were replaced--and there was even a surprise! Apparently, where there was originally a bolt to secure the tank, a previous owner had installed a pen point with caulk to hold the tank in place and seal the hole! Again, Buddy was quick, efficient and professional and knew what he was doing. The charge for the second visit was a reduced amount as compared with the first visit, which we appreciated.
Description of Work: The work involved replacement of an old, worn-out fill valve in our guest bathroom. Since apparently nothing had been replaced in the toilet tank in years (since before we bought the place 4 years ago), other issues emerged with the toilet tank, namely bolt connections that were no longer well-sealed.

For whatever reason Alpha plubing was the only plumber that would do both the leak and the caulk so that was great. The plumber showed up about an hour later than expected, went right to work, fixed the leak, and then caulked the tub. He also plugged a small hole in the tile behind the tap (pre-existing) to prevent water getting behind the wall. He ran out of invoices so I had to pay over the phone, but I was able to get my invoice via e-mail so all in all a good experience. Given I'd have had to bring someone else out to do the caulk if they hadn't been willing to do both, the price worked out very well for me.
Description of Work: Needed to fix a leaky faucet and get the caulk around the tub replaced.

This is my third time that I have used Alpha Plumbing, and each time has been a wonderful experience. I had set up an appointment to get a leaking hose bib replaced. I was given a two-hour service window, and Brian called me within that time frame to let me know he was on his way. When he arrived, he was extremely pleasant, capable, and explained to me what he would be doing. After fixing the hose bib, he fixed a leaking toilet even though I had not scheduled the work. Alpha Plumbing is a Class Act!

Overall I would call my experience extremely positive. I called Alpha and scheduled an appointment via telephone. Their telephone manner was extremely professional as was the plumber, Buddy, who came out to my home. Buddy checked each bathroom, ran water from all the faucets and got to listen to the banging I was hearing from the pipes. He then went outside and checked the pressure of the water being funneled in from the county and saw immediately that it was far too high. He came back in and checked an internal valve on my pipes to confirm and told me he knew what my problem was. The water coming in to me from the county was coming in at a much higher pressure than it should be (normal is 60 or 70 and I was over 100) and to complicate things the valve that helps regulate pressure inside the house had failed. It was the excessive force of the water that was moving the pipes and causing them to bang. Buddy asked me if I wanted to replace the valve, naturally I did, so he got the part from his truck and put it in. He was quick, professional and very careful of the my carpets and other possessions in the closet where he was working (I live in an old house with no basement so my pipes are accessed through my downstairs closet). He didn't leave a single mark, stain, anything and when he was done I had no more water hammers. I am extremely pleased with Alpha's work and I would highly recommend them to anyone. On a side note, I would especially recommend them to female decision makers because everyone at Alpha understand that I know nothing about plumbing and they were more than happy to explain what they were doing, why my plumbing was experiencing issues and what the cost would be in a very forthright and respectful manner. Some contractors and mechanics aren't good with female customers or they gouge them but Alpha is not like that. Ladies, it's safe to call them.
Description of Work: I called Alpha after working with two other plumbers who failed to diagnose or repair my problem. Alpha was very nice and extremely professional in all their dealings with me. I was having water hammers due to higher than normal (or recommended) water pressure coming in from the county and a failed pressure regulator in my pipes. Alpha tested my system, checked all my pipes, replaced the valve (which involved blow torches, pipe cutting and about an hour of labor) and the hammers stopped. I know less than nothing about plumbing and Alpha was very patient in explaining everything and never made any attempt to take advantage of my ignorance. I could not recommend this company more highly and I will certainly use them again!

I set up the appointment online, a representative called me back in about an hour to confirm the appointment. On day of appointment, they called half-hour before they arrived. The technician was courteous and knowledgable. Quickly diagnosed the problem and replaced the sump pump. He was here about 30-45 minutes with the installation, explained the 1 year warranty and cleaned up after done with work. Recommended a city water pressure type back-up pump but due to us buying a whole house generator is a couple months, he said there was no need. I would definitely use them again should a plumbing issue arise.

Arrived on time and completed work quickly. However I noticed immediately a loud growling noise every time I used the water. Called and they came back the next day and verified the noise and that they wouldn't want to live with it either. Thought maybe it was something in the line and sent someone to take a look at it. What they did seemed to fix the problem only to have it return within a few days. Called again and they came and tried the same thing. Didn't work this time. Said they'd have to research it and get back to me. After not hearing anything for a few days, contacted them again. They came out again and tried to say it was a bad water meter and had me contact the county. County responded and said it wasn't the meter that it was the water line. Called them and was told they'd have to do some research and get back to me. Didn't hear anything for several days and called back. Was told it was harmonic resonance and they thought they had a fix. Came out and installed something that slowed down the rate of water flow but the noise was still there. All it did was give me low water pressure. Went back to researching the problem. I called to check on the research and was told they thought they had a fix. They came and dug up my yard again and installed a long coil of pipe underground before reconnecting the line to the house. Still made the noise though not as loud but the water pressure is still not very good. I finally got tired of dealing with them and having to contact them to find out what was going on. So I now live with noise and low water pressure. Additionally, they didn't seal off around the pipe well and water leaked into the basement when it rained recently. Ended up sealing the leak myself rather than have them return to my property. To be honest, I just didn't trust them to fix it properly. I called to let them know I had fixed it myself and was very unhappy. They did offer to compensate me for the materials. Would rather they have done the job properly in the first place. Will not be using this company in the future.
Description of Work: installed new water line.

I contacted the owner after the recent hurricane. The owner was pleasant and accommodating. The installer was on-time and called before arriving. He explained how everything works and was pleasant. The new sump pump works great. I gave them a N/A on price because I did not research other area plumbers - therefore I don't know how his prices compare to other ones.

I was leaving for work around 8am when I noticed water dripping from the ceiling in our utility room (our utility room has an unfinished ceiling). The room is directly underneath the upstairs bathroom. The leak was significant but I had to leave for work. I told my wife to call our regular plumber. When I got to the office my wife called and told me they couldn't come out until tomorrow afternoon. The leak persisted so we had to get it fixed that day. I really didn't want to pick someone out of the phone book. I signed up for Angie's list at work and saw Alpha Plumbing, which had received a lot of positive ratings. I can't remember who I talked to but the guy told me to call him back and leave my contact info on his voice mail. I left my and my wife's number. Within 20 minutes, he had called my wife. She sent me a text saying someone would be out by 11. The plumber arrived around 10:30 (my wife didn't catch his name). She said he was courteous and professional. He quickly found the problem, although it wasn't the toilet in the bathroom directly over the utility room, it was coming from the bedroom bathroom. He repaired the leak and was done by 11. In my head driving to work I was imaging someone coming out and ripping up our bathroom floor and tearing out pipe, while charging us a fortune. We told Alpha Plumbing about our problem at 9:30 and by 11 it was fixed. Because we've used them for years, I'll still call our other plumber if we need service but if I can't get a hold of them, I'll definitely call Alpha back. If you don't have a regular plumber, I would highly recommend them.

Overall we were satisfied with the service although I think they should have installed the correct flapper for the toilet on the first visit. However, they did respond quickly and remedied the issue promptly at no added cost.
Description of Work: Alpha Plumbing ran a new water line to an outside faucet that had frozen and cracked and looked at a slow draining toilet. The new water line for the faucet was completed that day and workmanship was fine. The plumber replaced a flapper in the toilet to correct the slow draining toilet problem but this did not correct the problem. When I called the office to let them know this they sent the plumber back at no charge and he put in a different flapper that he said was needed for the American Standard toilet, and this did correct the issue.

I called Alpha Plumbing and spoke to a very nice man in their office. He asked me when I wanted someone to come out, and had me describe the problem. He gave me the prices for their first half out of work and for each hour after as well as an estimate of how much time it might take to fix this kind of problem. He told me the name of the person who would be making the repairs and said they would be over between 10:00am and 12:00pm the following day, and said the person would be calling me when they were on their way over. At 10:18am Brian called me and said he was on his way over and would be there in about half an hour. He showed up when he said he would and seemed very pleasant and professional. He looked at the problem and told me what he thought needed to be done and that it would take about 45 minuets, as well as why he thought it might be leaking. He fished the repairs in the time he said he would and showed me the old pipe he removed, so I could see where it had burst from the pressure of the ice. I have to say, this was the easiest home repair issue we have had so far, and Alpha plumbing helped make it a pleasant and simple repair. I WILL call them for any and all plumbing issue we have in the future.
Description of Work: Replaced exterior hose spigot, and attaching pipe due to damage caused by ice. It was leaking inside the wall when turned on. It was easy to access because the access panel was directly in front of the spigot.

Alpha was fast in providing an estimate, which was very competitive. They were able to use a trenchless technology called "bursting" on the side of our house which has a narrow yard. This way, there was no disturbance to our grass in that area. They arrived early in the morning and worked until 9 pm to finish the job in one day. So far, our plumbing has been working great! The only negative (about the job, not Alpha) is the backyard where they open-cut trenched is now all bare soil. I didnt realize how much disturbance there would be and now the entire area needs to be seeded or sod, which costs a lot more than we expected. I don't think any other company would have done anything different, except maybe laid some seed and straw.
Description of Work: Alpha Plumbing replaced our entire outside sewer/drain lines from the house to the city connection (approximately 120' with two 90 degree turns).

The problem is there is a very strong odor now after only six months. I have had the tank flushed and the odor keeps coming back. The company stated this new water heater wouldn't have an odor. The anode rode was standard aluminum and their is a magnesium with zinc. All I want is him to replace the old one with the upgraded magnesium with zinc and I will pay the difference of the cost of the rod. Alpha Plumbing refused to do this under the warranty and without full payment of service call fee included. After speaking with Angie's List rep. Alpha Plumbing contacted me and agreed to change the anode rod in the waterheater. There were a few days of waiting, but we talked and agreed on what would be done. 4/04/11 Alpha Plumbing came, replaced the anode rod, added a port to pour hydrogen peroxide into the waterheater, and he added a few bottles for me. This is to help prevent the bad odor in the water, because I am on well water. These were done for an add'l cost. I am satisfied with the results of the work and with the condition of the water.
Description of Work: 9/20/10 He came to our home and removed my old water heater tank and installed a new 50 gallon electric water heater. 4/04/11 They came again and removed the original anode rod (aluminum) I believe, and replaced it with a magnesium rod. They also added a port to pour hydrogen peroxide into the tank, because I am on well water. This is to help prevent the bad odor in the water. These were done for an add'l fee. I am satisfied with the results of the work done and with the condidtion of the water.

Brian was prompt and very friendly and professional. The final cost was a little over the initial estimate, but that was because he had to fix some of my DIY mistakes. I needed him to replace a corroded wall drain pipe, which he did, but he knew the drain assembly I had installed myself was cheap, and not installed properly. He explained to me (as kindly as he could) that it should be replaced with a higher quality assembly. With some plumbers, I would suspect that they're trying to sell something unnecessary, but I knew it needed to be remedied by a professional to avoid more problems in the future. He got the job done quickly and properly. Price was a little steep, but no more than any other plumber.
Description of Work: Had a trap, wall pipe, and pop-up drain for a bathroom sink replaced.
