See above. This company is truly a superstar and a wonderful find. I have many previous exterminators to compare him to, but Mr. Guderjohn is truly an expert and an educator. .With most other companies you meet inspectors who are salespeople, and at a later date meet the workers who are not as knowledgable but treat the problem with little or no supervision. With this company, a family business, the inspector is also the salesperson if necessary, and also treats the problem personally. This gentleman has told me on two occasions that I do not have a problem right now, and made various suggestions. He does not use his free inspections to sell you things that you don't need - he is very very honest and generous with his time and advice. I originally heard him on his radio show and called in - and have been very impressed with the way they do business.
Description of Work: This was a free inspection. My house has had issues for 30 years, termite history, etc., and I have had 5 exterminators before this one. I have never met anyone with this much expertise and knowledge, or who was so generous with his time and effort to look thoroughly, and explain things in terms I could understand. He was not pushy and did not use scare tactics - just explained everything clearly and patiently.

I have heard them on the radio. You can call in to ask questions and they will answer them or offer to come out and take a look at the problem. I was impressed with their knowledge and the information that they provided for me. I thought I had termites and they told me it was not termites and told me what it was and what we could do to remedy the problem. I will be calling them to come back.

It is owned by a man that also owns a lawn service that we use. We pay $145 a quarter. They do good work. We haven't compared their price. We haven't seen any bugs. Occasionally we have problems with scheduling because they are pretty busy and I'm busy. They called this morning and we are having problems scheduling the next appointment.

yes we do provide our pest control service to your home. No we do not perform your lawn care. we do not own a lawn care company or provide any such service. reviewing your service history we also don't have any issues on our end for scheduling your pest control service. One time you called us and said you had to reschedule your confirmed appointment because you had to leave town. We did and everything was fine. Please make factual comments when rating a company in the future. It is very difficult for a small family business to maintain a good reputation when misleading information is provided. Anyone can visit our website and clearly see that we do not perform lawn care of any sort. Scheduling is done in two hour time blocks and we only schedule when its convenient for you. Thank you for the "B" rating Our notes and reports signed by you give us an "A" rating. Angies List doesn't perform any quality control or make an attempt to confirm information before they post it for the world to see. This is why we do not pay them any money to join.

Had aproblem with ants and after calling Advancy they got the problem under control. Very few problems with and bugs. Any bug the makes into the house we find dead.

We had a contract with them that went back over 10 years so the price would not be accurate. It is a poorly managed organization often with conflicting information and opinions. Techs often contradicted and criticized each other. Some of their employees seemed to be naive and inexperienced. The techs played the blame game. Nobody took responsibility. It was all full of shifting blame and finger pointing which was very unprofessional. Another issue was the inconsistency of service in terms of effectiveness of treatment. The quality of treatment would vary from tech to tech. There was no continuity of service from one tech to another. They didn't have a standardized training program for their techs. They just told them what they needed to do and they let them do what they wanted. The promised service depended on which tech came out. If we thought one tech did a poor job, they would send out another one who would do it differently and blame the other one. It would go round and round. Customer service was poor and yielded dissatisfaction of service. They were poor at resolution and problem solving. They need to improve on their customer service skills. There was an air of immaturity with office staff that deals with the customer like a 17 year old girl answering the phone. It was immature and unprofessional. The reason we joined Angie's List is just so we could write a report and to find a better company. The big motivation was so we could help warn other people. We are 25-year home owners with a wealth of experience and could never recommend this company. Over the years it is not that they were that bad as far as the big picture. It's hard to say anything about the price. We have terminated our relationship with them.

As this customer states, we had a long relationship with each other, spanning 10 years. We pride ourselves on our exemplary customer service and feel assured that if this customer truly felt this way, we never would have been able to keep them for such an extended period. We finally had to raise our prices and a letter was sent out in February 2011. Ironically, this is when the customer first articulates a problem with service. We operate with only three technicians as we are a small family-owned and operated pest control company. The technician who predominantly serviced their account took a promotion in January 2011 to lead our Commercial Division. However, prior to his reassignment, he fully trained, (under a 12 month Apprentice Program) his replacement for residential service. Three years ago, our company invested in electronic handheld devices capable of storing up to 12 months of service history for each customer. Our technicians are able to view past service notes, materials used and their dosages. These handhelds were purchased to re-affirm consistency in our treatments and applications between service technicians. This customer became problematic when constant requests for the newly appointed Commercial Operations Manager to continue to service their home, were unable to be met. When these requests became demands, we terminated our relationship with the customer. The customer recommended our services to their best friends last year and we continue to service that account. Yet, after being loyal to you for 15 years and 3 companies later, you don't have a few minutes to call one of your oldest costumers? It's disappointing that you would simply drop us this way without any dialogue what-so-ever. I have only had a complaint with Matt once. I have never discussed my dissatisfaction with you or anyone in your office except Carl who assured me that it was appropriately addressed and that Matt was still very well equipped to handle our service needs. I was not even aware that you knew whether or not I share your opinion on Matt's service ability. My requesting for Carl has nothing to do with Matt. Its just that when you trust something that has worked for so many years it's hard to let go and trust the next guy. I ask for Carl because I have been told on a few occasions, "Sure, no problem. We'll send out Carl but you'll have to wait until he's available." I was acting upon information given to me by your staff. When I spoke with Ashley on Friday I told her that I thought Matt did a very good job this time on my inside service. In fact, I noticed a big difference in his attention to my service from the last time and was quite happy with it and even thought about letting you know that. Yes, I asked for Carl when I called to schedule my outside treatment because the day before it was "no problem". Again, acting on information from your staff. Ashley told me that Matt would need to come out, which was fine but when I mentioned that I would like to be here, it was made very clear that was a problem. I understand that you have a computer telling you what was treated in the past but as I am sure you are aware, nests move and trouble areas in one year may not be in the same place the next. I had no problem with Matt coming. I simply wanted to show him certain areas. After this last service with Matt I was more comfortable with Matt. You know as well as I do that Carl is outstanding at what he does. If you didn't you wouldn't have promoted him but we have always trusted our service to YOU. We are saddened that you couldn't trust us enough to reciprocate that loyalty. I am very sorry to loose you and I want to thank you for so many years of outstanding service. It has taken six months of determination to (hopefully) take care of the mice problem. Horizon has been great to work with. They have always responded to my calls and come out right away to continue treating for mice. I have a small dog and was worried about the poison; the technicians have been great about working with me to deal with the mice and keep my dog safe. The technicians are always very considerate of my house and my wishes about treatment. They also have been very dedicated to helping me rid the house of mice. At times they were coming every week or two to continue treatment so I really got my moneys worth. I will certainly continue this service.
Description of Work: I recently purchased a row house in Baltimore. There was a terrible problem with mice. I purchased a yearly contract with Horizon. It is payable at $115.00 a quarter when they make their regular visits.

Horizon guaranteed their work and were true to their promise. They returned several times over the course of about eight weeks until the critters were gone. In addition to being friendly, they were knowledgeable, suggesting a different approach than those we had read about in our own research and from those suggested by other companies that we spoke to. They were a little more expensive, but were the only ones who promised to keep coming back until the problem was resolved.
Description of Work: We had a particularly severe infestation of rats in our yard. There were several burrows, and we were seeing young ones grazing in our yard during the day. Note that rats are generally nocturnal, so when you see them during the day it means that you have a lot of them. We live next to a wooded area. We had had a bird feeder, many seeds fall the ground while birds were feeding. The rats apparently liked the seeds too, so moved from the woods into our yard.

They were horrible, a complete failure! I could not get a hold of them ever! The problems never went away. I had to fix the problem myself after several months. They did show up on time though.
Description of Work: I had them spray for ants and other pests inside and outside of my 3 bedrooms, 2 bath. This is part of an annual contract.

When I called Horizon, they gave me a 2-hour window on Saturday when they would come by. They told me that $190 was the minimum price for a service call, which seemed a little high to me, although I did not call around to check other companies' prices. Korey came to my house during the appointed time and thoroughly inspected my home for where the crickets were located. It took him about 20 minutes to do the job. He was very courteous and professional and I felt confident that he did a good, thorough job.
Description of Work: Treating inside and outside of home for crickets.

Very good. They treated my home within one week of my call; man scheduling took time answering questions and was very courteous. Young man who treated home was very thorough and courteous. They needed to come back once to re-spray kitchen area, but volunteered to come next day and had no problem with returning to re-treat. Guarantee is 30 days. Price was, I felt, a bit high; however, I had a wicked bad problem with ants. So if they stay away, it was well worth the money.
Description of Work: Inspected for signs of termites; treated for soil ants. Also (for free!) screened off area where birds were getting into attic.

The treatment appears to have been very effective. Horizon was great! The gentleman who answered Horizon s phone was friendly and helpful. He sent out an exterminator (Kory) the next day. Kory was also friendly, funny, professional, thorough and cleaned up really well. Horizon also offered a 30 day guarantee. Since we live in the city, I anticipate that rats will probably be a problem (unfortunately) in the future, and we plan to call Horizon whenever a we see signs of them again!
Description of Work: Horizon performed rat extermination services in our backyard and underneath our shed. (We live in the city and our yard backs-up on an alley.) Horizon stuffed underground rat dens near our garden with poison and "Stuf-fit," and placed several rat bait stations in our yard and shed.

They did everything they said they would do. They stand by their guarantee. They definitely wanted me to check the work, if I was not happy they were willing to come back. I didn't have anything to compare the price too. I have a one year warranty, but if on the 367th day they will still come out if I needed them too.

THIS WAS MONEY WELL SPENT. ORIZON HAS DONE AN EXCELLENT JOB AT KEEPING MY HOME PEST-FREE. THEY ARE WONDERFUL WITH FOLLOW-UP IF NEED BE.
