Roofer did a terrible job reroofing a kitchen roof. He then refused to come back to fix the roof properly after having been paid in full. I have to hire another roofer to redo the job.

Things went very well. They stand behind their warranties. The workers were good. They were very responsive. They cleaned up after themselves. They were very prompt.

Some things went okay, others not so much. In late 2011, my wife and I were having mold remediation work done in our home. While working in the attic, that contractor noted that we had places where our roof was leaking and a number of rotted roof boards. We called CMT Contractor to get an estimate to replace the roof, to include shingles, flashing, vent pipe collars, drip edges, and of course any roof boards that were rotted and needed replacement. After two or three calls and a missed appointment or two, George came out to take a look at our roof. We got an estimate shortly thereafter and CMT Contractor ordered materials to replace our roof. To the company's credit, they were able to fit us into their schedule very quickly, and on very short notice. Due to the mold problem, we'd had all the insulation removed from our attic, in the middle of winter. We couldn't finish the interior ceiling repairs and put new insulation in the attic until we knew it wouldn't be rained on because of the roof problems. I remain very grateful that CMT Contractor was able to get a new roof onto our house within about a week or so of when they came out to do the estimate. I was also very satisfied with the price, which was better than what we'd been quoted elsewhere. However, we have had problems since then. When we recently (August 2013) had our chimney inspected, the chimney sweep brought down photographs of the flashing, where there were, in some cases, finger-width gaps and holes around the top edge along the fireplace. He also noted that one of the roof boards was soft enough that he didn't trust it to bear his weight. Our roof came with a three year warranty on workmanship, so I contacted CMT Contractor. It took a few calls and few missed appointments, but George did eventually come out. He nailed down a loose bit of flashing that had come up from where it lay along the roof, nailed down a loose roof board, and told my wife that we wouldn't have any further problems. I called again to ask about the finger-width hole and other holes and gaps along the top side of the flashing along the chimney, but he never called me back. At this point, I was suspicious enough of the workmanship to call another roofer to inspect the roof. He came down from the roof with digital photos documenting several problems with the quality of work. From what he showed, there were, in fact, holes in the flashing. In fact, it wasn't new flashing at all -- it appeared that CMT Contractor had just repainted and reused our old flashing (or someone's old flashing) because there were still holes in it from where it had been attached previously. The flashing should have been stair-stepped, but they just used one big piece. The vent pipe collars were inadequately sealed. In some places, instead of scraping away old caulking and replacing it, they haphazardly slapped a new bead of caulk over the old. Topping it off, apparently when they came out and nailed down the loose flap of flashing and the loose roof board, they nailed down through from the top, leaving the nail head exposed. While fine today, we were told that would eventually lead to corrosion around the nail head, resulting in a roof leak. He also found a roof board that was, in fact, soft and needed to be replaced -- not just loose and needing to be nailed down. I understand, of course, that there's a possibility that the second roofer was running up the list of criticisms in order to generate work for himself. I suppose I could have gotten a second opinion (or third, if you count the chimney sweep's). However, given what I'd heard to that point, and the photographs, we were fairly convinced that the installation of our roof was a slapdash job.
Description of Work: CMT Contractor replaced the roof, gutters, and downspouts for our single family home.

Response from CMT Contractor, LLC
[member name removed], the CMT Contractor who did your roof is not the same CMT Contractor, LLC who is listed here. There is a new owner and all new employees. I bought the business in 2012 and in good faith I decided to honor the previous owners warranties for the last two years. We are based in Baltimore and got out to Annapolis in order of the calls we receive. I`m sorry your experience was not what CMT Contractor, LLC is used to providing and please call us if we can do anything to help in this situation.
