James came out to see the door and show me a catalog of options. He wrote an estimate for the door I liked, but left the catalog to give me time to decide. He was very informative about what I could expect if I decided to choose him for the job. After I decided, he returned to take measurements and finalize any details. Since I live in the city, we would have to acquire a permit to work on the door. I put down a deposit/down payment for the door and I received an invoice/contract guaranteeing our discussed price and approximate timeline. A few weeks later James returned with a small crew and replaced the door. They were done faster than I expected! I can hear the difference when I close the door and life just got a little easier. There are two more doors that will need replacing in the next two years. I kept the catalog and I have already picked them out!

Our 50-year-old original wooden front door had lost its weatherstripping both around and under the door, and the locks were beginning to fail. While we could have replaced the various parts, under the circumstances we felt that replacing the entire unit was more sensible. Among other things, the cold draft in the winter and loss of air conditioning in the summer was significant. The old, wooden front door and the storm door were removed, along with the framing. A new steel door was installed. The job was done fast and well, there were no surprises, and we are entirely satisfied with the results.

A bay window had a badly rotted skirt board and potential damage to the supports for the window. The vendor came to the house to make an estimate, offered a variety of options (including replacing the entire bay window unit, in the unlikely possibility that the damage was very severe, and quoted a number of prices, including a simple replacement of the rotted area, if an inspection did not reveal more extensive damage. A week later, the vendor removed the rotted sections of the window and determined that the remaining areas were free of rot, and replaced the skirt board, capping and sealing it in white aluminum. The job is clean, neat and water tight, and the room where the window is located is actually warmer thanks to the tighter seal on the window.

James Gay does the estimate, measuring, and installation, with some additional crew. He is a no pressure salesman. He simply shows what he has to offer along with the assurance of experience and quality work. He only installs good quality products that are backed with strong warranties. He and his crew are prompt, efficient, neat, and highly skilled. My wife could not believe the amount of work that was done in 2 days. We are very pleased with the results. We would definitely hire them again, and highly recommend them.

We had four old windows replaced. I purchased the deal through Angie's List. The new windows are great and the deal was a great value. The only additional cost was one frame replacement and that only added $12.

It was a pleasure to deal with Chesapeake Window and Remodeling Inc. Everything went well. The price was very reasonable for 3 quality basement sliders. The whole process took about 2 weeks. The windows were made to fit. I received a call when they were made and within a week the windows were installed. Three people showed up to install the windows. They arrived on time around 8 a.m. It took about 2 1'/2 to 3 hours to complete the job. I was impressed with the outcome. I would definitely use Chesapeake Window and Remodeling Inc. again. We were communicating through emails and we set up a date. The last reply they told me to pick some time late in the week and they said to call and confirm and I did not see that and I waited around for them but they did not show up because I did not do the phone confirmation.

He came on time and explained everything very thoroughly. He cleared out his credentials and explained exactly what he was going to do. It was a thorough proposal that outlined everything. Left me with information and did not pressure me to buy. I will be returning to this company in the future.

James is friendly, down-to-earth, and very competent. He only sells ProVia doors because he doesn't want to install a product that will give him or his customers a problem. So, while you can get a better price on an entry door from the big box home improvement stores, you are definitely not getting as high of a quality level. His sales visits were no-pressure and no gimmicks. He showed us what was available based on our uncommon/custom door sizes (84" x 36" and 78" x 30"). He offered some suggestions on a couple things that would likely be needed or beneficial, but also did not push us towards a higher-end product line and made us feel comfortable buying within our price range. His price quotes were complete with no surprises, and he always returned phone calls promptly. All the doors were installed without any major issues, and any minor issues he encountered were easily solved because of his experience level. Additionally, he and his crew made an incredible effort to keep the area clean as they worked. I have never seen a contractor make so much effort to clean up during/after a job!

James was great! Very honest and personable. The door he installed is of high quality, as was his workmanship. I would definitely use him again!

We interviewed three window/door companies, selected from Angie's List, to replace four doors and windows in our 50-year old house. All three companies were punctual, no-pressure, professional and courteous, just as the reviews on Angie's list indicated. Quotes varied by about 40% - one high, the other two about the same. We chose Chesapeake Windows because James made us feel confident that the work would be done professionally and in a timely manner. Despite having to cope with this spring's exceptionally wet weather, they managed to complete the work in two days and within the predicted time frame of the contract. Removing the old bow window was quite a task but the team managed it well and the new bow window in the living room looks even better than we had imagined. The new sliding glass patio door makes the family room look so much better. The two exterior steel doors nicely complete the updated look. The team was mindful of shrubbery, floors, etc. and cleaned up thoroughly after finishing the job. We were so pleased with the work that Chesapeake Windows did that we have asked them to do another related project as soon as they have time.

I signed the contract for the door on April 4, 2014, and the door was installed on May 7, 2014. As with my last experience with Chesapeake Windows, everything was great: good customer service, great price, and flawless installation.

From the estimate to the finished product, owner James Gay was a true professional. Arrived on time, kept me posted on the progress and was finished and cleaned up by early afternoon. What I liked most about the experience is that he owns and operates the business and you deal with him directly. He always is very responsive, professional and knowledgeable about the windows. HIs prices are also very competitive and from the many estimates I received and presentations on windows I had to sit through, he was by far the best. I would highly recommend him and plan on hiring him again the future.

They arrived on time and didn't leave until the job was finished. They gutted the opening down to the brick removed the rotted wood pilasters and replaced everything with high quality steel door, storm door and phypon pilasters and pediment. It looks beautiful and all my neighbors have complimented their work and how great it makes the house look. I'm having them come back in April to re-caulk all the windows and clean them up. Excellent work and professionalism!! James encountered some challenges because this is an old house, but he overcame them with skill and patience and did a fantastic job.

Mr. Gay responded to my request to replace a kitchen window that was damaged during a home robbery. He responded quickly and professionally when all others turned down my request because it was related to an insurance claim. He arrived promptly to assess the damage and take measurements. All details were explained and questions answered thoroughly. When the window arrived, the installation was done in less than an hour and he took care of the clean-up and removal of the old unit. From start to finish, this was an extremely positive experience. We contacted James Gay of Chesapeake Window based on the reviews from Angie's List and were not disappointed. Mr. Gay arrived promptly for the initial consultation. We explained that we had one window that had developed a leak, but that we also wished to replace additional windows and two patio doors. He inspected these areas and then gave us his recommendations for replacement products along with an estimate of cost. At no time was he "pushy" or did he attempt to get us to sign that day. In fact, he suggested that we give it some thought and let him know. We called several days later to tell him we wanted to proceed with the work. Mr. Gay returned to take measurements and provide firm pricing for the job. He indicated he would order the windows and doors and that he would begin work in 2-4 weeks based on delivery of the materials. It was about 2 weeks later that he called to let us know the windows and doors were in and we selected October 22 for him to do the work. Mr. Gay and Joe, his helper, arrived promptly and had all the windows and doors installed that day. Both were professional, friendly and a pleasure to work with. All work areas were cleaned up beautifully before they left. We have additional windows and doors to replace and will call James Gay to do this work.

Excellent experience. Punctual, professional and took their time to do a nice job. Cost was slightly higher than we expected but included the installation fee, which took about 5 hours to make sure everything was done nicely. I would highly recommend this company and Mr. Gay, who personally gave the estimate and installed these items.

I needed someone to fix a window that was jamming and becoming impossible to open and close. I was having difficulty locating a repairman to do the job. Although Chesapeake Window & Remodeling is not in the business of repairing windows, James Gay, owner, was gracious enough to stop by to look at the window anyway. I thought he would try to talk me into window replacements throughout my home. I was pleasantly surprised when he fixed the window at no charge and only suggested window replacements in the near future. I found him to be knowledgeable and honest, and I plan to call him when I am ready to have the job done.
