Initially, the repair worked but within 2 years the leak recurred. I called Justin to ask for the photos they took and he no longer has them. Justin may personally know roofing but he doesn't do or supervise any of the work. He has men do the work that are not trained. I have had two reputable roofers tell me how much business they have in Homeland and Guilford repairing Justin's work. I would stay away from Remarkable Home at all cost. I went with them because a friend of his at Roland Slate recommended him. I will now have to pay to have the roof repaired again and now fix the bedroom walls, the kitchen ceiling and purchase a new ceiling fan. Don't make the mistake I made.

Description of Work: Awful. They sent a guy out who ended up using the slates for my job on work for my neighbors house. The worker then took money from my neighbor under the table and did a terrible job on our home. When I called the owner he tried to minimize how bad the work was on our roof, then came out and brought a worker to repair the shoddy work. This worker walked all over our slate roof, broke slates which caused them to use more slates and then they tried to charge me DOUBLE. What the original work was supposed to be.

Justin provided a "certification" stating that the roof was in good repair. First heavy rain revealed massive leaks and uncovered the obviously shoddy "repairs" former owners had made, designed to last just long enough to sell the house. By then we were stuck with having to replace the entire roof at a cost of $10,000, thanks to Justin's failure to note the obvious defects in the roof. I don't believe he actually ever got up on the roof, just eyeballed it from the street. Every single estimator who came to look at the roof (5 total) said they would never have certified that roof. I would never trust that company to do any work.

The repairs were done after much delay (weeks after we were told they would be completed), the workers left a mess (and we had to call them several times to get them to come back, and even then they left debris and damaged our deck where they had dropped slate tiles onto it), Justin (owner) who showed up to give the estimate never came to any of the jobs, and did not return calls when I asked about details of the repair. When we paid for the roof repairs, we were told the gutters would be cleaned as well. A few weeks late, I noticed the gutters overflowing. Justin told us they had been cleaned - when I sent a photo showing the gutter with months of leaf debris in it, they would not return my calls. I would not recommend this company due to poor quality, dishonesty and poor customer service.
Description of Work: We asked Justin and his team to repair our slate roof in Mt Washington in order to get it ready for sale. We also asked for a roof certification to provide to potential buyers.

It went very well. I was sure I was going to need a new roof and could have been taken advantage of. Justin met me at my home (on time). We got some binoculars so he could show me some of the slates that had to be replaced. He explained the two types of slates and the approximate length of time I could expect the type I have to last before having to completely replace it. He scheduled the work immediately upon receipt of the deposit, showed up on time on the day the work was done, introduced me to his crew, and took photos of the roof as the work was being done. I received the photos as well as a certification of the work that had been completed. Justin and his wife, Lana, were an absolute pleasure to work with. I really felt like I was in good hands.
Description of Work: Remarkable completely replaced our slate roof and gutters. The new slate roof is undeniably beautiful, but the gutters are terrible. My theory is that rather than supervising the crew, the owner, Justin, left them to their own devices. It was the dead of winter and they were very messy and slow, and at the end of the job, when it came time to hang the new gutters, they were loosing money and desperate to finish. The gutters were slapped on, and I could tell from eyeballing that they were not pitched properly. I had to fuss with Justin a good bit about them and he did eventually come out and work on them, but I knew they weren't done properly. I was so sick of it at the time, that I didn't care. They even missed a shank in a spot which a reputible roofer would have corrected. Unfortunately the only way to do this is to remove and replace the slate which is quite an ordeal but wouldn't have been so bad in this particular spot since it was under a very narrow section of roof. At any rate, the first winter out, the gutter with the missing shank got all tisted and bent. And the gutters, that looked like they had low points and were pieced together in too many places, were holding water and dripping for days after a rain event. The overflow marks are evident, and the birds enjoy the perpetual bath. I have contacted Remarkable about the situation, and they insist that the problems have to do with the weather and that the gutters were in perfect working condition. I have since met with other roofers who contend that the gutters were not hung properly. | |We paid A LOT of money for a new roof and gutters. It has been almost two years since the roof was replaced and the gutters have been really bad for well over a year. This is completely unacceptable. $40,000 and we have to listen to drips all night long days after it rains. | |I hired Justin because he seemed like a nice young guy who was interested in doing a good job, and I wanted to give him a chance. In reality all he cared about was getting paid and growing bigger.

I have used Remarkable Homes LLC for slate roof repair and maintenance since the company was a new start up business. I have always found the owners, Justin and Lana, to be incredibly responsive, professional and efficient. In addition, if a problem is not totally resolved by a repair, they return at no cost to be sure that the job is done right. I will continue to use Remarkable Homes to serve our roofing needs.

Overall, I have been a satisfied (even happy) customer of Remarkable Home although I have been frustrated with the responsiveness and communications when I seek service through the company's main number. The company installed my gutters in the winter of 2010 and did a fine job. I needed a return visit in the summer of 2012 because one of my downspouts was buckling away from the house. Justin promptly took care of this problem without charge since the work remained under warranty. Not only that, he also installed an L-shaped outlet for a different downspout without charge which I had not expected to be without cost. Regarding communications, matters turned for the worse in the fall of 2012. I called and left a message to report that a downspout was again pulling away from the house but never received a call back. Since it was around Thanksgiving, I did not follow up until January. When I contacted Remarkable on January 8 via e-mail, I was advised that they had no record of my call in November (or the one I had made the day before I wrote the e-mail) but Lana assured me that she would send Justin out to inspect the job. I waited until January 12 (a Saturday) and then contacted Lana via e-mail to express dismay that I had yet to hear from anyone (and I now had two downspouts buckling away from the house). On January 14, Lana reminded me (by resending her prior e-mail message), that she had told me that Justin would be out to inspect the job. I wrote that since I was unaware of Remarkable's current workload that perhaps I was unreasonable in expecting a visit within a week (my expectation was based on my previous wonderful experiences) and I asked for an estimate of how much time I should expect to wait for the visit. I heard nothing and called at least twice, leaving messages for Lana that the receptionist assured me would be returned. Each time I called, I asked to speak to Lana - I was told that the person answering phone was a receptionist and could only take a message (which she did superbly and courteously) for Lana who would return my call (which didn't happen). Finally, I called Justin directly and received prompt attention, an estimate for the amount of time before I could expect to have a service call, and the necessary service call within the promised time estimate. One more point - the downspout has pulled away from the house numerous times. I suggested that the workmen might consider a new anchor (since all repairs used the same anchor). Repeated repairs did not take this suggestion into account. Finally (summer 2013) the downspout has been secured with a new anchor. I note that Remarkable has never charged me for these return visits. Overall, therefore, I give Remarkable very high marks for price, trustworthiness and courtesy and strong marks for quality. On the down side, the system for receiving work calls let me down.
Description of Work: Installed gutters in the winter of 2010. Also has returned on numerous occasions for a recurrent repair to downspout that separates from the house.

It went very well, they are very friendly and easygoing. They emailed me an estimate the next day. I have been busy addressing other issues with my house but when it comes time to address the roof I will certainly keep this company in mind. They had been recommended to me by someone who has extensive knowledge in roofing.

We have had no additional leaking in the attic. Just had them out today to replace some other slates that have separated from the roof. They are fairly easy to reach and of course we would recommend their work. We are about to use their services again. They were referred by friends and so far have been terrific!
Description of Work: We have a 80 plus year old slate room and were having some issues of leaking in our attic. They came out and replaced flashing and approximately 40 plus slates. We noted that water was still entering our attic and they returned, solved the problem at no extra charge.

We had a leak affecting our 2nd floor ceiling that three previous roofing/gutter companies could not fix or were unwilling to address. We have a slate roof from ~1924. Justin and his team from Remarkable Home LLC were able to figure out that our roof slates were not overhanging entirely at the interface with the side of the house, potentially explaining how water was infiltrating. He seems to have been right so far; no leaking! His team worked diligently, although it didn't take them all that long (presumably because they're efficient professionals) to do the work and swap out 10 slates too for the quoted price. They pointed out some problems with out gutters and roof; perhaps we'll use them to do this work too in the future.

We had a leaky roof and had two roofers come to repair it, and it still leaked. It wasn't until Sergei and Remarkable Home Improvements came and repaired the leak that we have had no further problems! They were affordable, worked quickly and provided quality work. Later, we needed their input on some potential repairs and they gave us an honest assessment of our roof, rather than recommending unnecessary work. I cannot say enough about them!

He failed to show up on our first estimate meeting - he said that they had a family emergency. So we rescheduled and he showed up the next time and gave me a quote, which was good. I asked him to make a few changes to the contract and forward it to me, which he never did.

Repairs on historical homes must be completed properly and without the mentality of... whats the least amount of work I can get away with, hoping to solve the problem. If we can't agree on performing the work correctly, we don't need to work together.

I made an appt with Mr. Cheetham to look at my roof damaged by the snows of February 2010. He was an hour late for our appt on May 6 2010 which put me out but once we got over the apologies and the story he was extremely informative and frank about my roof. I felt that he had a good eye and experience for how best to repair my roof, which is what I wanted instead of a whole roof replacement. I mailed in a $1000 deposit on May 31 and then heard nothing back. We had corresponded by email in part during the estimate phase. I could see that my check had been cashed, but no acknowledgment of my acceptance of the estimate, no scheduling of time for repairs was initiated by Mr. Cheetham. So I emailed his office manager and on June 7 was given a date of July 21 for the repairs to be made. I heard nothing after that so emailed on July 20 to check in and was told they were behind schedule and my repair date was now looking like the last week in July or the first week in August. I emailed his office on Tuesday August 3 to see if they were on schedule to work on my roof this week (today is August 6). No response to my email, no response to my phone message left at the number on the estimate of May 31. Now I am thinking I may be out $1000. So I went to the address listed on the estimate and found no Mr. Cheetham, but his father-in-law living there. Got another phone number (but no real home address) for Mr. Cheetham. Left a message asking that he contact me. He did, within the hour, but clearly had not listened to my message as he did not know who I was, nor did he recognize my address. I listened to a bit of a story about his current repair job, where his wife/office manager was, how busy he was and how sorry he was. I did not doubt any of it. I don't think Mr. Cheetham is a bad person, just a lousy businessman, and I have no idea if he is a good roofer or not because I decided to have nothing further to do with him. I see him as unreliable only insofar as he does not communicate reliably. He left my trust on the floor and let himself get into a position where he could not regain it.
Description of Work: In the end, I asked for my deposit back, no services were rendered, no work was done. The deposit was returned promptly and in person at my request with no complaints and an apology from Mr. Cheetham.

Response from REMARKABLE HOME LLC
Please note, the company responded in a timely manner regarding the scheduling after the signed proposal and down payment were received. The client was informed of the starting date and the changes. The client was also informed of the time frame the project would start, prior to him signing the contract. The client requested additional work to be performed and later changed his mind on the scope of work, which made it difficult to schedule due to uncertainty of the client's agenda. The client rudely came to the office address, which is also a residence @ 8pm after office hours without prior notice. Personal addresses are not given to clients, but a personal number was given to the Member. Remarkable Home LLC could not accomodate the Member and a full deposit was refunded the next day in person. We are truly disappointed that we could not perform the work, since the work would speak for itself and the reason our clients are willing to wait for Remarkable Home LLC. to complete their projects.

Justin was prompt, professional and responsive. However, the crew did not perform the quality work we expected and seemed to not have good communication with us or Justin. They installed metal on part of the roof instead of slate and when we asked why they did this they said they weren;t sure what we wanted - but they didn't bother to ask us even though we were at the house. They were also sloppy with what they used on the slate to cover the holes - the color did not match the slate. But to his credit, Justin did work to correct the situation. He just needs better help.
Description of Work: remove existing bottom course of slate, remove existing apron, install weather watch ice and water protection, re-install slate as necessary
