When the men from Mark and Buttons arrived, they went about their work in a very workmanlike way. One of them, as it turns out Mark's son, was able and willing to get up on our roof, despite the snow up there. His colleague set to work clearing out the fireplace and removing a great deal of glaze on both sides of the fireplace. He scrubbed and scoured tie stack with power equipment and got it completely clean. Then the two men cut out the old flue and installed a new one, with a chain and concrete mount on the side, which made it much easier to open and close the flue. Our fireplace has been working superbly since the repairs were made. We were very impressed at how hard these men worked, and at the very fair price that the company wanted for all the work the men did. To show my wife how to use the new flue, they waited around until she got home from work. It was a very pleasant interaction with a nasty problem. Mark understood that with the holidays coming, we wanted the repairs done as soon as possible. Instead of making us wait till mid to late January, which he originally anticipated, he had workers out to do the repairs within a few days. My wife and I both really appreciated his understanding. We will certainly use this company again, for routine cleanings in the fall, and if we ever need repairs to our fireplace and chimney again.

I was concerned that the chimney flue was corroded and needed replacement before I had my roof replaced.. I was able to make a timely appointment and two workman came promptly. They examined my chimney and flue from inside the house as well as on the roof. I was told that the pipe was copper and that it was still sound. They didn't try to replace something that didn't need it. I thought they were honest and would recommend them for chimney cleaning or replacement.

Everything went very well from the inspection appt. to the installation of the new chase top. The guys were running a little behind that day but they called and let me know that they would be there and that everything would get done that I needed. They sent me quotes for what I needed done and credited the cost of the inspection on the bill for the chase top! The chase top was installed without my needing to be here and that was even ahead of schedule. Good company and very happy with the work done.

They are the classic chimney sweeps. They set up business several decades ago and are truly fantastic. The repointing work they did is spectacular. Overall, excellent work.

They were fairly punctual and respectful. The on-site workers providers easy-to-understand answers to my questions, however, their recs were not entirely in line with their boss'swho subsequently provided an estimate for repairs. They charged me 153 for the initial eval which seemed steep. Their estimate has been the most expensive I have received and provided poor level of detail for the work to be done and how the work would be guaranteed. Lastly, they were supposed to state the$153 would be applied to the work if I used them but this was not put in the estimate. Only the workers had told me that and I had to call subsequently for that to be confirmed. Also, they only accept cash but clearly are not passing the savings on to the customer as they are significantly pricey.

I appreciated the quick response I received to an email request for an estimate. The contact person let me know that they do not service my area and additionally suggested other companies that I could contact. I appreciated the above and beyond customer service.

I thought their quoted price of $2,150 was very high. They are very good, reputable and do good work. They are very courteous people who are not pushy. We have used them for at least 10 years to clean our chimneys. They are knowledgeable and after they do the work they clean up; it is spotless when they leave.

Mark Burlbaw came out and inspected the chimney and measured for a new chase cover and stor collar and cap. He provided a competitive price for the replacement and while not the lowest price, it was nearly half that of a competitor. I was pleased with the overall price/value of the product he offered. Installation occurred, while we were away over a weekend. They left the job site clean and the workmanship appears to be very high quality.

After persistent water leakage around chimney in third floor interior, following previous work by another contractor to install a new lining system and chimney cap with follow-up visits by that contractor and others to stop the water from coming in, Mark and Buttons came promptly, got up on the roof to get a close look at the situation (not just eyeball it from ground level), told us what looked okay, what needed attention, and what could be done if the first step didn't work. They put sealer around the top plate of the cap and sealed two open spots on the flashing for $100. That has stopped the leakage and no additional work has been needed.

Mostly just whatever I read about them made me think that they would be good.

Honesty and integrity much appreciated.

People were efficient and professional. When they came to check and clean furnace chimney they also inspected the venting system for the furnace and hot water heater in the basement. The hot water heater vent was old, deteriorating and incorrectly connected into the chimney. A week after the initial inspection and cleaning they returned to install new vent for the hot water heater and connect it properly to the chimney. At that time they also installed stainless steel cap on chimney since there had never been a cap before. I was very pleased with their workmanship and their attention to details. I was relieved to have the hot water heater vent replaced and glad they had noted its problems and recommended that it be replaced. When they pointed out the condition of the hot water heater vent it was very apparent that it needed to be replaced.

We wanted our chimney cleaned before Christmas and checked Angie's List for chimneysweeps. We called the top three in our area and nobody could do it until January. But the young lady at Mark and Buttons who talked to me was very friendly. When I mentioned that our chimney hadn't been cleaned for 15-20 years or more, but that the chimneysweeps admired one of my drawings of a man in a top hat and installed a chimney cap to keep out birds and animals in exchange for a portrait of them in traditional chimneysweep top hats, etc., she exclaimed, and quot;That was my uncle! The picture hangs in his office!and quot; She said she would call back if anything opened up and called the day before to see if noon Nov. 11 was OK and it was. They were more expensive than the other firms, who gave prices between $150-200, but we were glad to have the work done sooner and it was nice to hear that my portrait of the founders of the firm hangs in their office.

I used a coupon from a mailer several years ago for another chimney sweep, thinking I could get a better price. The person who came to clean the chimney said that I had a damaged firewall that needed to be replaced, at considerable expense and that the sitauion was potentially quite dangerous. I called Mark and Buttons and they came out to inspect. The firewall did not need to be replaced and , in fact, we still have the the original one years later. Mand B also keep the history of your fireplace and chimney and review it at each visit. I will neve use anyone other than Mark and Buttons again!

First off they were kind enough to fit me into their busy schedule, which was exacerbated by the recent rainy weather and the onset of the seasonal fireplace inspections and work. I called for service and they were able to set me up for an appointment in about 3 weeks. They scheduled me for a service call on 10/12//11 and showed up at the scheduled time. They inspected the fireplace damper etc. which was all o.k. They inspected the fireplace flu and the gas hot water flu. Both flues were clean, no buildup or blockage, and the pipes were sound. Therefore they did not recommend the cleaning of either flu. Next they went on the roof and inspected the chimney. The reason for the water leakage for the fireplace was traced to the baffles in the pre-fab metal chimney not being able to handle the abundant amount of rain. They suggested the installation of a flu cap. They gave me several different cap options and prices. I opted for best multi-flu cap they had to offer. The cap was installed while they were here, and while it was raining. No leaks since the cap was installed. Several days later I went up on the roof to inspect the job. I wasn't sure the cap they installed was the right size so I got in touch with Mark from Mark and Buttons. He indicated that caps come in increments of 4 inches in width and length, and that the next size up would overhang my chimney. But to be on the safe side he said he would come out and have a look. The next week he was here. He and I both went on the roof, and sure enough what he told me was correct. The next size would have been too big. While he was here he put in a couple extra stainless steel screws to pull down the corners of where the cap flange meets the top of the chimney. I would highly recommend this company. They are honest, professional, punctual, and neat. Mark also recommended I get my metal chimney painted, which I plan to do in the spring.

We had some water leaking down the chimney when it rained. The service technician basically charged the $150 to tell us that the chase had rusted through -- which is what I told them was the issue when I called. Then they provided a quote to replace it that was $480 more expensive then what I ultimately paid another company for the exact same repair. In fact all of the other companies that I called were at least $350 less expensive.

We have used Mark and Buttons for about ten years. They consistently surpass expectations in terms of going above and beyond to figure out and correct a problem. They are honest, professional and hardworking. We would recommend them without reservation.

They did a very good job. They had to tear down the old brick work and completely rebuild it. It was a 100 year old chimney with bird nests and it was leaking. They definitely fixed that big open hole in the middle of my house.

They do very good work, they were very thorough. The took the time to make sure they did not do any damage to my slate roof. Its a pretty good family run organization. They were just very thorough and they took the time to ensure that they had proper equipment and ensure my roof did not get damaged at all.

They made sure everything was good and clear. They also made suggestions for the vent water heater that needs to be replaced. They were very knowledgeable, efficient and clean. They are also familiar with older homes.

He was excellent. I had a great experience with them. I would rate them an A+. They are very skilled at what they do and they do it right. They clean up every day and all that you want. Their price was reasonable. I am considering to use them again.

They were very thoughtful in their diagnosis. They were busy so it took a little while until they were ready to do the repair, but when they did they were prompt and efficient. They fixed the problem. They were very professional.

It went well overall. They sent me a contract in a timely fashion and were very clear about when they would be able to schedule the work. The work was done in a professional manner and did not interfere with our ability to enter and leave the house. When they were done they cleaned up the work area. The finished chimney looks really good.
