Southern Maryland Paving and Sealcoating

They gave us the best quote and were able to do the work 3 weeks earlier then planned due to a cancellation. The only hiccup was in getting the initial appointment scheduled. We didn't hear back from the scheduling agent after we accepted the estimate and had to follow up with the sales rep. Then the scheduling agent called and everything moved very fast. They arrived at 7AM just as promised and were gone before 10AM just as promised. It was a good experience.

Super professional and courteous. Very responsive and accommodating with respect to meeting times for estimates and actual work days. Both sales (brian) and the home office were fine to deal with. My only complaint is that the person doing the estimates and the selling didn't necessarily understand the work like the people doing the actual work. Specifically, he assumed some things that turned out to be bad assumptions. On my new paving, I specifically asked about grade with respect to drainage and he said that the paving team would have no problem continuing the grade of the existing driveway to facilitate drainage toward the back of the lot. I was concerned I might need to put in a drainage pipe/seam between sections of the driveway. He said that was unnecessary. The paving team could not in fact make that happen as he suggested and they wound up putting in a little swale in the asphalt and water still does pool a bit. I should have had a better plan and been more demanding...but they could have been more informed about the options and consequences when discussing the project. With respect to the seal-coating, when prepping the driveway for them (I decided to pressure wash the drive with krudd cutter) I was blowing debris from a crack at the end of the driveway where it meets the street. A lot of asphalt crumbled away leaving a large crack. Concerned, I forwarded pictures to sales asking if it could be 'crack-filled' or if it needed to be patched. He said that the seal-coating crew would put crack filler no problem. Well, the seal coating crew said no way - too big...so they just seal-coated right over the big gap...which still needs to be patched. Bottom line, remember the person selling you the service is not the person doing the service, get a second opinion, know what it is you want, and be demanding and skeptical. I did feel like the cost was very reasonable - I'd be more upset if it had been more expensive.

Was promptly contacted after asking for an estimate for roadway repair and driveway seal coating, and discussed at length the details and tradeoffs of drainage issues and surface material applications for shared private lane. I was promised an estimate that I was going to bring to the other homeowners who share the private lane in order to finalize the repair details. March 12th was the date of the site-survey, and over the course of the next three months I made repeated contact via email on March 27th, April 13th, and April 27th via email and phone call on May 20th to obtain the estimate to no avail.

They did a very good job. I was very impressed. I received a very detailed estimate of the job. I waited a couple of months and was never bothered by the company until I was ready to have the job done. I decided to go with them and enjoyed them very much.

When I called for the service there were several days of rain in the forecast. I was given a date and was told that I would be called the day before. I was not contacted when promised but called the company the morning of the scheduled work. I was informed the work would start that morning. The crew did come before lunch and did the work. Everything went well with the seal coating however there was one small area that didn't get a coating, It was only a small area that I didn't think it was necessary to notify the company. There were some stress cracks and lines where the asphalt blended together that were sealed first before the coating was applied. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the work performed.

My wife and I wanted a paved driveway. We were tired of the crushed rock. I saw this bright yellow Scion with ads all over it for SOMD Paving. I wrote down the number and called them when I got home. The estimate person was there exactly when he said he would be, like to the minute. For me, being there when you say you will be there is a big plus. He was professional, he was polite, he answered my questions and we talked about my options. He told me the estimate would be ready in 2 days or so. Low a behold, it was in my email inbox, later that evening. Im not sure if I was just lucky and he had time to write it up or what, but again, if you are early or on time with me, Im happy. As far as price, to my wife and I it seemed very reasonable. We didn't get more estimates that SOMD Paving. It was much lower than what we expected so we signed the paperwork and got scheduled. The estimate person said his office would call me once they had my signed paperwork. They called the next day to get me scheduled. Another thing I liked was they didn't take a penny before the work was done. Our driveway was done in 2 phases because we put in a new lane that wasnt there before so they dug that and rolled out stone and it had to settle for a month before they could pave it. When they were first supposed to come dig, it was raining. They called me and said they would have to reschedule. BIG PLUS! They always stayed in touch with me throughout the process. They was one more schedule change due to something that happened in their shop but Im understanding. And again, they called and made sure the times and dates would work for me. On the actual paving day, I was at work and they let me know they would be there. By the time I got home, the driveway was complete. And the only evidence that anyone was at my house was the new driveway. They cleaned up all the stuff. No ruts or anything messed up in my lawn around the driveway. I was completely impressed. The driveway is exactly as promised from day one with the estimate. Great company to work with. I give them my highest recommendations to anyone looking to get paving work done!

I requested estimates from 3 different companies. One of them never came in spite of saying they would come give an estimate, and after 2 tries I gave up. Another one was AC who did come and gave a quick estimate off the top of his head that the job would cost something over 8 thousand. I was not impressed but maybe they do good work. Southern MD Paving sent a professional man to do the estimate and he drew a detailed diagram of the work site indicating what they proposed doing and exactly which areas needed more detailed repair. The estimate was neatly drawn and the written part done by hand was neatly printed as an experienced engineer might do. When I called later to accept the bid they scheduled a date but later rescheduled when heavy rain caused a delay. The team arrived when scheduled on a sunny day and worked well together in getting the job done quickly and efficiently. They communicated well with me and left me with a good looking driveway and good advice on how to keep it that way. It was a pleasant experience. I strongly recommend you at least get an estimate from Southern MD Paving and then decide for yourself. I am in the phone book if anyone wants to talk. Bill Haskell

Owner (Chad) is very "hands on" - he was present for the entire job and directed crew; he also operated some of the heavy machinery and even did some "grunt work"! The estimate for cost and time to complete was spot on. Because of inclement weather, the job had to be postponed but only for a day. Despite a heavy schedule and having to reschedule our job, they were able to complete the work the very next day.

Southern Maryland Paving and Seal Coating gave us a thorough estimate, outlining everything that needed to be done -- which areas would be removed, what it would be replaced with and what the final paving process would include. Of the 4 estimates we received for the job, Southern Maryland Paving's was the most comprehensive proposal but actually the lowest bid! It took us 3 months to actually schedule the job (OUR fault, not theirs!), but they honored the original estimate even though it was well beyond the 60 day guarantee. They arrived on the job promptly and completed all of the work in ONE day -- not a small feat considering it required a great deal of preparation work and nearly 4 truck loads of asphalt! The crew was knowledgeable, skillful, careful of the surroundings (existing stonework, buildings and shrubbery) and very pleasant to interact with. The completed driveway is absolutely beautiful and all the "standing water" issues were corrected as promised! I intend to have them return this Spring to apply the sealcoating. Photos available!

They have been excellent in giving advice and recommendations. They get straight A's! They were great in letting you when they were coming, showing up on time, and getting the work done the way we wanted it done. I would highly recommend them! We felt like what the gave us was a good price, and we felt like it was fair for what they did.

They were very efficient. They did an excellent job and used top quality materials. I would absolutely use them again in the future.
