We had flooding in our basement, caused by a window leaking.Matt Oneil was the senior technician that was sent to diagnose the problem and provide an estimate. He showed up on time and was knowledgeable, thoughtful and courteous. Most importantly, he did not try to sell us any services but rather suggested that we fix the problem on our own by adjusting the landscaping around the window. It's rare that we don't feel like we're getting a hard sell and it really impressed us that he advised us against putting a lot of money into it. The next time we have any issues with basement water, this is the company I'll go to first.

-Workmen arrived early and stabilizers were installed, followed by anti-mold spray and installation of sump pump. I was advised that the work had to dry prior to the vapor cover installation and they would return around 1pm. Later they called to say there were complications at another job and they would be late. At 6pm they returned and finished the work around 10pm. The catch basins were installed on 11/22. One of the basins did not work properly and because the ground was frozen with snow, that work was not corrected until 4/25/14 by mutual agreement. I am pleased with the quality of the workmanship overall, especially by the work done in the basement and that of the follow-up technician who corrected the catch basin problem. I was disappointed when the initial work crew did not return until 6pm and I had to twiddle my thumbs while they finished their work into the night. And I was disappointed that, while the catch basin workmen did a fine job with the first one, the second one was unsuccessful.
Description of Work: First of all, I used Value Dry out of Savage, MD, so this review may not be relevant to your "List". Work began on 11/7/13. Basement walls were treated with anti-mold spray, stabilizers were installed to reinforce one wall w/cracks. Vapor cover will installed over all walls. One sump pump was installed. Later, two catch basins were installed outside for sump pump discharge.

Company promptly called back to discuss problem within 24 hours and left message. Very Responsive. However upon returning call to schedule appointment for estimate of services I was informed that all decision makers needed to be present for the estimate. This implied only one expectation of a hard sell from sales representative. Cancelled appointment and scheduling appointment with other vendors.

Response from Value Dry Waterproofing
To all customers, We are glad to perform a FREE inspection and assessment of your basement or crawl space for you. The best way to do this effectively is for all responsible parties to participate in a collaborative consultation. This requirement is of benefit to you, and is clearly explained to all customers before scheduling an inspection. Here are the main reasons for this important requirement: 1) Frequently, we are inspecting problems and/or proposing work that may involve the foundation of your home, or other structural considerations. It is important for all parties to know what is going on. 2) Sometimes, there may be health hazards to discuss. You may need to participate in a conversation that involves health-related decisions. Depending on the nature of that discussion, you and your inspector may decide on one approach versus another. It would not be professional for the inspector to conduct this type of discussion without all responsible parties. 3) Most customers want their inspector to help figure out what type of work should be done. As a construction company, we may have more than one type of solution for you to choose from. You will be able to discuss and evaluate the solution types with your inspector. The type of work that you select may be different from what another customer with a similar case may select. Understandably, all responsible parties will need to be involved in order for this conversation to be productive. 4) Your inspector will be able to customize a scope of work that takes your priorities, concerns, and plans for your home into consideration. Since we are customizing a specific & unique scope of work for each client, it is important to get input from all responsible parties. There will be multiple decisions for you to make during the design-of-work process. We want to make sure we get it right for all responsible parties. After experiencing our careful, detailed, fix-it-oriented inspection & assessment, most customers appreciate our friendly process. To accommodate your schedule, we have inspectors available Monday thru Friday both daytime and evening, and Saturday & Sunday mornings & afternoons. Thank you - Jim Ketterer - President

Hi Everyone! My husband and I purchased our home in October of 2013. Unfortunately, ten days after settling on our new home we discovered mold and evidence of water in our basement. Needless to say, this situation was beyond stressful for my family. Bill Strong has been my point of contact since the very beginning. Not only was Bill Strong the most professional of all inspections we had out to our home, he NEVER once attempted to push my husband and I into making a decision immediately which is more then I can say for some of the other inspectors we encountered. In fact, Bill came out to our home more times then I can even count to review various findings. During each and every visit, he explained the cause of the problem and what appropriate repairs should be preformed. Bill also went above and beyond easing my fears through numerous phone calls and emails. We had five basement waterproofing companies come out to our home and although Value Dry was not the least expensive, the confidence we had in Bill Strong and Value Dry was priceless. My husband and I did not want to put a ?band aid? on our basement water situation but rather fix the problem correctly therefore alleviating any concern down the road. We took Bill?s expertise to heart and installed every single item he recommended. My anxiety and sleepless nights have all but disappeared since Value Dry installed our system. I feel grateful not only for the incredible system Value Dry has installed but also for the remarkable customer service we have received. After the mountains of rain we all received last week, I am thrilled to report that our basement was DRY! I would highly recommend Value Dry to any family, friend or neighbor that was experiencing water related issues in their basement.
Description of Work: Install a full perimeter water management system, full perimeter vapor barrier, two 1/2 horsepower sump pumps with battery backup, jet clean system, speed drain installed outside of our basement door, two window well taps and EZ Breathe Ventilation Unit.

I was extremely satisfied with Mr. Zelkoski's suggestions about how to remedy the water in the basement. He explained that his company did not do that type of work but suggested what profession I should contact and the approximate costI of the job. I truely appreciated the information and honesty of the inspector

Angelo arrived promptly and was incredibly kind and understanding. I showed him the area and after just a minute or two he immediately knew what the problem was. Turned out that a pipe coming into the house hadn't been sealed properly and therefore was leaking after a heavy rain. The job was a DIY project and too small for Value Dry. He explained exactly what we should do to plug the hole. I so appreciated his honesty and knowledge with regards to the situation. I would call them again in a heartbeat should I have another basement water issue.

The exerience was wonderful, painless, and a huge stress reliever! With the snow, rain, and melting from all the February 2014 weather, my basement flooded for the first time ever! Mr. Ketterer, President and CEO of Value Dry, came to my house, assessed the problem and adviced me that a sump pump was really all I needed, adding that there was no need to do extra work that would be expensive and that I did not need. The team arrived on time the next day, were professional and did a great job -- they covered furniture and cleaned up amazingly well after the installation. The whole process was done in one day and I now can rest easy that my basement will not flood again! I highly recommend this company and have given the Value Dry contact information to friends and neighbors. If you have a water problem, don't waste your time with any company other than Value Dry!

The firm was professional and I felt analyzed the issue correctly. unfortunately their price was over four times the price of the bidder i eventually chose, a firm that was also A rated by Angie's list. The bid I took may ultimately be higher than the contract I signed because their were contingencies in it if additional work was needed to complete the work that was unknown at the time of the bid. but even so the final price should still be well under 50% of value-dry's bid. Part of the excessive price results from extensive inside the basement trenching that may or may not be necessary after the outside excavation is completed. The firm I went with not only had a much lower price for the outside work 6K vs 16K, but also recommended working incrementally to see if the outside work solved the problem before recommending extensive inside work. It is always better to not let water into the basement in the first place than to pump it out afterwards.

Response from Value Dry Waterproofing
[member name removed], Thank you for your feedback on our evaluation to waterproof your basement. ValueDry has found that most of our clients, especially those with finished basements, are interested in solving their water intrusion issues once and for all with our transferable warranted solutions. Yes, our interior trenching solutions, which can require removal and replacement of furnishings, tend to be more expensive than other trial and error less warrantable methods, but they are final and backed by our warranty. I hope the solution that you have chosen solves your problem with finality. If it doesn't, and we have many clients who have installed exterior solutions in the past that haven’t worked, you will need to pursue options such as those which we have recommended. If the exterior solution does not work and you end up needing an interior solution you will have spent more money than our original quote. It is important when comparing and rating companies that you are comparing apples to apples and warranty to warranty. We know that when our customers do a true comparison that our pricing is very competitive in the marketplace. Again, thank you for your feedback and best of luck. Regards, James Ketterer, President

Our only complaint was the hard sell we got to commit at the time of the presentation. There was also some negotiation involved in the final price, which we disliked because then you feel like you are buying a car, always questioning whether you were "had." They also require both adults (or whoever actually is on the mortgage) to be present for the evaluation. They say they have had problems with things getting "lost in translation" between spouses. That was a bit irritating and made scheduling slightly difficult. We will say that we met with them and another company and we got two very different reports about what was wrong with our basement and how to fix it. Since we didn't have a clue, we were very worried about making the wrong choice. So far, so good, however, and they do have a lifetime warranty on the work. Hopefully, we won't have to find out if they will make good on it.
Description of Work: We had water damage in our basement that we didn't know about. Not only did we need a new french drain and sump pump, we also needed to have our dry wall gutted and mold remediation. Value Dry was able to do all of it (other companies would have had to out-source the mold problems). Overall, we thought their service was very high quality.

Experience with estimator was good. He was very professional. He gave the best explanation of the situation we were facing and the options before us of any of the companies we received quotes from. The installation crew went over everything before and after work was done. Inconvenience and dust were minimized. Final result was finished very well. Another contractor I was using for something else even commented on it and asked who did it for his reference. We had a follow up concern over a damp spot that appeared after a heavy rain. Value Dry was very responsive to it, took some additional steps to satisfy us by sending a very professional technician. I joined Angie's List to help me through this problem and was very pleased with the outcome that they helped me get.

The area that water is leaking into does not seem to be connected to the basement drainage system to this is not a simple fix and would cost a lot more to integrate this area into the basement drainage system, so we have decided to hold off on repair for now, by redirecting the gutters and water away from the area. Value Dry was very professional, courteous and punctual and would definitely recommend them for any basement waterproofing needs.

Heavy rain on thursday night led to a soaking wet carpet in the basement of our recently purchased townhome. Call Valuedry Friday morning, they had the inspector there by Friday afternoon. Spent a few hours with the inspector trying to locate the source and come up with a solution. The crew showed up on time Monday morning completed the work to the contract and within the expected time. Overall very happy.

We experienced worse flooding in the basement each year over the 30 years we had been in the house. We reached a place where we could not longer deal with the massive clean-up and dry out after heavy rains or melting snow. We had 3 companies (all recommended by the neighborhood listserv and by angieslist) come and give their proposals for correcting the problem. We settled on Value Dry and the system presented by Matthew O'Neil who did an excellent job of explaining the problem and the fix. The work was done in July but I waited until we had several days of heavy rain in October before I wrote my review. Basement is dry!! Work was done very promptly despite it being a busy season for them. Workers were all professional. A good experience all around. Highly recommended.

I was truly impressed with Value Dry Waterproofing. I had some water related problems in my garage. I interviewed approximately six companies that had high rankings on Angie's List. After all the interviews, consideration of the different ways to handle the problem, and price consideration I selected Value Dry Waterproofing. I was so pleased with the whole experience. The installation process was flawless. Jim ketter, the owner, i was extremely knowledgeable and helpful to say the least. Always punctual and considerate he was a pleasure to deal with as was those who worked for him. I recommend Value Dry Waterproofing without hesitation or reservation if you have a water proofing problem. Thank you again to both he and his wonderful staff.

We bought an older home and one week after moving in, we came home to find a large flood in our basement from the cinder walls leaking after a major storm. We had three estimates done. Value Dry agreed to match a less expensive estimate. The salesman was very knowledgeable about what needed to be done and he expressed it very clearly. When the time came for them to install the system, they ended up doing more than they agreed. The only drawback, and this should be a warning to everyone out there, is that they promised to do it in one day, and it took two and a half days. After seeing the scope of the work completed, I don't know why or how anyone would make the claim that it could be done in a day. Nonetheless, they were very clean, which is hard to do when jackhammering concrete. They wrapped up our belongings in plastic before getting started and when they finished, they managed to unwrap it in a way that prevented any dust from settling. This was a very difficult situation for us as this problem was something we didn't want or need one week after settling on a new home. They managed to ease the burden a bit and we feel much more confident about what we're going to find when we go into the basement, even on rainy days.
Description of Work: The company installed a french drain system around the entirety of the basement walls, installed a vapor barrier, and tied in sump pump drains to exterior drains, which they lengthened and buried farther away from the house.

ValueDry misdiagnosed the cause of the small amount of water in my basement. They inspected the basement and looked around the outside of the house. Their conclusion was that the water table was high and water was seeping into my basement. Their solution was to install an interior perimeter drain at a cost of $9-$11,000. When I had a second company look at my basement, they quickly discovered that it was a plumbing issue--the main shut-off valve to the house was leaking. My plumber replaced the valve for $190, problem solved.

Basement was flooding due to overflow of pad and speed drain. There was water coming in through the floor/wall seams from the existing drainage system. The existing drainage system was not installed properly which resulted in it collapsing and causing the flooding. 05/2013 -Searched Angie's List for a waterproofing specialist to come fix/replace existing system. 06/2013 - Contacted Value Dry to schedule a free inspection. Received immediate response from Steve Zelkoski who came out for the initial inspection within a couple of day from initial contact. Steve explained what they could do for us and would do up a quote for the cost. We explained to him that we needed to get a couple more inspections/quotes before making a decision on what company to use. He completely understood and respected our decision. There was absolutely no sales pressure put on us to make an immediate decision. After receiving a couple more inspections/quotes we decided that Value Dry would be the best choice for the work we needed to have done. We notified Steve of our decision and he was wonderful to work with. He was very responsive and understanding of our situation and answered every question or concern we had. 09/2013 - We contacted Steve to let him know we were ready to put the system in. He came out to the house and we went over the contract to ensure all of our needs were addressed. It happened that the crew had an opening for later in the week to do the install and could fit us in. 09/05/2013 - First day of work, the crew showed up on time. Did a walk through with the Foreman (Shad) and we went through the scope of work. He welcomed my questions, addressed all of my concerns, and made sure I understood and felt comfortable with the work that was going to be done. The crew consisted of Shad and two other gentlemen. They immediately started the work and made significant progress on the first day. The dug up all the old, existing pipe, sump pump/well, and began laying the new pipe and hung the vapor barrier. Upon leaving for the day, Shad ensured I knew what they had done and what they would do the following day. This job was very messy because of the mud in the existing system. Shad and his crew did an amazing clean up prior to leaving. 09/06/2013 - Second day of work the crew showed up right on time and ready to work. They completed laying all the pipe, sealed up the vapor barrier, installed new sump pump and discharge pipe, installed speed drain, and poured concrete (including new pad). Shad was very good on keeping me up to date and showing me what they were doing. Once done inside, they dug the trench and ran the underground discharge pipe. They covered the pipe and replaced the grass as much as possible to where you can barely tell the yard had been dug up. Once again, Shad took me on a tour and showed me everything that had been done and welcomed any feedback or questions I may have had. The cleanup was phenomenal! You couldn't even tell that basement had been torn up with mud everywhere. The crew was very professional and very friendly. I felt very comfortable around them and there were no language barriers. I HIGHLY recommend Value Dry Basement Waterproofing & Remodeling. Note: I will update this review once we get our first amount of rain and let you know how the system holds up. At this point in time I have very high confidence that the system will work and I won't have to deal with another flooded basement.

The job took one day and the crew was extremely professional. The drywall was removed underneath the window to ensure there was no mold growing. The two workers did a great job of cleaning up after all the "jack-hammering" and dry wall removal. So far, so good. No water.
Description of Work: Had water in basement coming from window well drain. Value Dry installed new pipe from drain to existing sump pump and replaced sump pump (which was 25 yrs old). The drain was not originally connected to sump pump -- this new system would ensure water had a place to go besides our basement!

Had I not hired Jim to come look at a crawl space of a potential home purchase, we would have bought into a substantial amount of problems. Jim's professional advice was to have a crawl space encapsulated while the sellers were only recommending a band aid fix of installing a small French drain. Jim was straight forward with me and provided an estimate within hours. I'm certainly glad to have had Jim take a look and would definitely use Value Dry for any issues I might have with any future home.

I went on line and requested the free inspection of my crawl space. Lewis called me the same day. He was very polite and down right friendly. He asked me questions about what I would like specifically to look for. He then asked me about dimensions of my crawl space. I was in luck, there was an appointment opening the next day. He let me know that Bill Strong would be coming over at 3:00. Bill showed up exactly on time. He had an intern with him, named Maria. Just like Lewis, Bill and Maria were very polite and down right friendly. ValueDry's policy is to have the homeowner and the spouse available for the inspection. We get that because we believe as ValueDry does that me wife and I need to hear straight from the mouth of the expert as to what proposals might be made. After an initial meeting with Bill and Maria, I showed Bill our two entrances to our crawl space. Bill took a look and took pictures. As he took the pictures, he described to me what he was looking at. After that, he sat down with my wife and I and explained to us the research on how crawl spaces work. He had power point that provided visuals to what he was telling us. My wife had a lot of questions and Bill was very patient with her and answered all of her questions and mine to our satisfaction. He gave us an estimate for the grand total of everything that would need to be done to do the encapsulation of the crawl space. Based on my research on Angie's List, the estimate was very reasonable. We worked some tailored estimates to fit our desires as well. While Bill was talking to us, Maria had been talking measurements of the downstairs portion of the house. My wife and I felt comfortable allowing her to move about the house on her own because Bill and Maria were like friends we had know for a long time. We chose not to do the encapsulation during the upcoming school year, but are looking to next summer to have this done. The whole experience from the initial call from Lewis to Bill and Maria's visit was great!

Our finished basement had a leak in the front corner of the house whenever there was heavy rainfall/flash flooding or a long period of wetness. We were not sure whether it was coming through the old (100 years) brick front wall in our yard, or through the foundation, or some combination of the two. ValueDry were the only contractor who proposed a solution that addressed both aspects -- they put a parge coat on the interior wall of our basement in the front area, and installed a perforated drain, with a battery powered sump pump in the concrete. With basically zero margin for error on the installation space -- our washer, dryer and water heater were all located in the area needing work -- VDW completed the work, and within a month of completion we had several incidences of heavy rain where the sump pump proved that we would no longer need to worry about flooding, even in the event of a power outage. This was a very expensive project, but it also required expert assessment and a lot of attention to detail. I can safely say that if you yourself are willing to pay attention to details, ValueDry will provide you with the BEST combination of service, professionalism, and effective solutions for your buck. I would recommend them to anyone. Thanks guys
Description of Work: ValueDry Waterproofing competed against several other top rated Angie's List contractors providing estimates and detailed quotes for fixing our perpetually leaky basement. Our house went through about 10 different contractors over the course of six months before we finally felt satisfied with ValueDry's proposal to remediate the problem without it happening again. The estimation they provided was extremely professional and they were very forthcoming throughout the process with providing details and answering questions. We engaged their services and they promptly completed the work following the receipt of an executed contract.

I have a 6ft walkup basement with a little 2 1/2 inch drain that couldn't handle hard down pours. Water would get up to top of first step and go under the door. I had sandbags line up at doors and a electric sump pump in stairwell. All was well if I was there to turn the sump pump on when it stormed, but I couldn't be there all the time. Value Dry gave me several options that I could do to solve this problem. Putting in a new sump pump was the least expensive and it made the most sense to me. Provider suggested I continue to use the old drain in stairwell and put another trench drain right a base of door. It would be a double protection. The crews sent was very professional, courteous, and hard working. It was a pleasure doing business with Value Dry and would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Value Dry installed an additional sump pump for drain at basement stairwell.
