JCB Handyman/ Masonry

I had a very positive experience with JCB and will definitely call them in the future when I need help. I wanted to completely change my kitchen but I didn’t want to shoulder the expense of new cabinetry. I spoke to Brandon about my vision (which was to have a rustic, distressed look on my kitchen cabinetry with coordinated accent cabinetry around the kitchen) and he gave me a lot of helpful info on the phone, even before I signed the contract. He came out to my home to show me what they could do, to make sure it was to my liking. His estimate also seemed fair. Once the job started, Brandon and Chris and Joe were kind and communicative, letting me know what they were doing each day and checking in for feedback. Because I wanted a unique, distressed look on my cabinets, they created the look entirely by hand based on my description of what I wanted. It was painstaking and labor-intensive, but they worked efficiently. The entire job was done in a week (they worked through the weekend) and I’m thrilled with the result. They also re-painted my walls, in a color that complimented the new cabinetry, and they replaced a light fixture. In addition to be very talented and building me a kitchen that I love, they are genuinely good humans, which is even more important. I’d highly recommend JCB.

Charged multiple hidden fees

We will absolutely go through this company again! They were very professional, timely, and offered honest and reliable work. We highly recommend to anybody with odd jobs, interior or exterior work. We were very pleased with our repair! Thank you!

First, I was asked to sign a blank contract that indicated an hourly rate. That alone was no problem, but when the work was done, I was very surprised to find a previously undiscussed flat fee charge added for $40. Next, they charged me for an extra half hour. My camera shows them finishing up and going to sit in their truck instead of texting me or ringing the doorbell. Third, I had provided a plaque for them to replace my floating house numbers. Apparently, they couldn’t make the numbers “float”, so instead of explaining that to me and asking for further direction, they went ahead and drilled the numbers right into the plaque rendering $65+ worth of supplies useless. And they charged me $12 for the screws needed to do this. They did take $30 off the final bill to account for supplies, but that was an argument in itself. Lastly, I had asked in advance for them to take pictures of my windows when they were on the ladder so I could see if any further work needed to be done, but if they took them at all, they refused to send them. I texted them twice asking for the pictures with no answer at all. I would look elsewhere for a handyman with consistent reviews who stand behind their work and own up to mistakes. And who won’t charge you extra for them. They refused to solve any of these issues other than the $30 credit.

Brandon contacted me shortly after my estimate inquiry through Angi, explained billing structure, and set a time for on-site estimate. He and his father (Joe) arrived within a reasonable time of the predetermined appointment time to evaluate the job. They agreed to purchase materials from a local big box home improvement store, brought (3) fence posts and Quikcrete which were left at my property. Installed temporary bracing to ensure fencing would remain standing until repaired. I paid them for all of these materials and services, with the agreement that they would evaluate picket materials/availability and provide me an estimate for the job. Joe called me later that day to discuss the job and we came to agreement regarding the way ahead. He told me that I would be receiving an estimate from Brandon within the next day or two. After a week with no contact, I reached out to Brandon everyday for a week, using the previously used cell number via text messages/phone calls and left voice mail messages for each; NO RESPONSE!!! Apparently, these guys don't want the job but don't have the professionalism to tell me so, or even return my calls/messages. It has been over three weeks of no forward progress on this job, so I am moving on to a different handyman company that wants to work. Based on my initial impressions and meeting, I had high hopes for a long relationship to accomplish many projects to our mutual benefit, but I would NOT recommend this handyman company based on my experiences due to lack of responsiveness.

After initial consultation the vendor never called back to schedule the work, even after I had followed-up with them on three different occasions.

Pro:Three showed up polite and got the work done in the time allocated. Con:They kept telling me how I needed more things done and my house would not pass a home inspection. An example is bracing for a fence trim. I felt pressured and like they only wanted more work out of my home. Also they charged $30 for their van use! What! How else would they have got the 3 of them and their tools to the job. The work done was fine. It was the constant telling me an inspector wouldn’t pass my house that irritated me. Too bad bc info need a few more things completed.

Joe and Brandon were friendly and professional. They assessed the situation and completed the work.

They provide estimate before doing the work and they try to stick to the estimate and did the work in a timely manner. The company is being run by a father and son; and so it is a family owned company, and they can do different numerous works like plumbing, painting, electrical, roofing, and chimney masonry.
