The work went very well. Leo came by at an earlier date to review the scope of the job. He then set up an appointment to come back and do the work. He purchased all the materials needed ahead of time (included in the total cost of the job) and he and his crew arrived on time. The work was performed in a very professional manner and Leo and his two man crew were a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend Willis Builders and I plan to use them again.
Description of Work: Performed various tasks at my home including drywall repair, replaced an outside GFI outlet, hung two ceiling fans, hung a dining room and powder room fixture, installed a new toilet, caulked a bathtub and refinished a damaged spot on the bathtub, caulked back splash at the kitchen counter, repaired screen, repaired concrete on front porch, repaired broken handle on a casement window.

Arranged to have Vern come out to give us an estimate on a couple of minor construction projects. He was not timely with his communications. Had to follow up with him several times to see when I would receive the estimate. Seemed he was busy on a commercial tenant improvement. On the last email, he promised he would deliver it, "without fail" the following day. Never heard from him after that. If the job was too small, he should have just said that, rather than waste my time.

Rob was excellent to work with and a true professional. He was willing to lower prices when and where he could to accomdate for our tight budget while maintaining a high quality of work standards. His team was very polite and even assisted with letting our Dog outside to use the restroom while they worked. Defintely recommended and will hire again.
Description of Work: Willis Builders utilized an unfinished basement section that was outside of the exterior walls of our home, and completely finished the room, connected it to the main part of the house, and it is now a wonderful home gym area.

I love to hear good reports like this with details. First of all we didn't have any dog walking services in the contract! Funny you should mention this because we have done this many times and I think the versatility of what the guys will do to serve. We have one really good client who rescues cats and I can honestly say we never lost a cat ! The thing is about 6 of them literally stand near the door ready to pounce on the chance for freedom. Rob is very commited to serving, specially really cool clients with a budget. Rob always says " where there's a Willis theres a way". Well maybe not as much as I say it. We are grateful for your generosity . Thank you for hiring us and giving us an A!

We chose Willis Builders because of their competitive pricing and the quick response to our needs. The communication throughout the project was instant . Also, we were very impressed with the conduct of the workers, Specially with our project manager, Leo . Who was amazing and and very helpful to guide us through our project. They all were very clean, organized, and efficient with their time. The owner Matthew, promised that we would be impressed with the crew and he was spot on! Our kitchen is amazing and after 200 kitchens Willis builders had learned a few things that they generously shared with us . We saved a ton of money on the materials because Mr Willis shared his distributers with us to use at his discount. The team was in and out with an amazing speed and quality . I was also impressed with his office staff and how they assisted us, which seemed like all hours of the day and night. We will be using Willis and his team for our future projects. Its shocking how much information there is on these projects and I am thankful they know what they know to help us achieve a product beyond what we could have imagined.

It was a pleasure working with guys! Leo is truly a genius . He has been with us over 10 years and has mastered every skill . He very effective on kitchens and bathrooms because he can do everything . He is the best at planning and executing . He once told me he sees the project in his mind and does it backwards so he can execute most efficiently. I beleive he has done over 50 kitchens now so he has it down to a science . We have systems in place that makes things move fast and he's very high on quality too. If seen him do things over that where ok to make it better. I remember when he was my right hand man back when I ran around with every tool know to man and wore my toolbelt . Even as a helper he would amaze me with the way he did things . It's a pleasure to work with you and look forward to our next project! I'm going to be sure to read this to everyone on the team so they can benefit from your detailed appreciation . Thank you so much! Blessings!

I had been searching for a good contractor for a very long time as this was a my largest project ever. I asked around a few friends and they mentioned that Willis Builders was a good company, I checked out the reviews and decided to give them a call. I had a two other estimates but after meeting with Matthew and talking about our plans we decided to go with them. They completed the work on time as it was very time sensitive as I had to travel and gladly also on budget. I really liked the fact that the employees were all very courteous and was pleased with the craftsmanship. I have had a bad experience with a contractor before but the team really put us at ease. Our friends are very surprised with the results, they don't miss the wallpaper either. My family and I are very happy with the results and have already recommended them to my in-laws.
Description of Work: After owning the home for about 10 years it was time for a full remodel. I had kitchen upgraded, all new hardwood floors, two bathrooms remodeled and tiled and also had the flashing and new gutters installed. Stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, distressed hardwood flooring, painting. (Had to replace plumbing due to pin whole leaks)

I trusted the team and am very blessed to have them working with me . Your project was truly awsome and like the option you chose . When it comes to budgets I like to give options . It helped because you did use my cabinet distributer and saved about 10k. I love projects like yours that challange our performance. It it doesn't kill Ya it makes ya stronger so they say. Willis Builders did a beautiful job with the renovation for this high-end investment property! The reason i chose them was that Matt Willis is the perfect hybrid of old-time master carpenter and state-of-the-art builder. He isn't one of these self-taught guys with a pick-up but has learned the trade at the highest levels by working on landmark embassy buildings for a top renovation firm. As a result he knows all aspects of construction, knows what top quality looks like and knows how to manage a construction team. He's also a very intelligent, articulate young man with lots of good ideas of his own to contribute, and he worked very well with our very talented but demanding architect. He has a great crew who are a joy to have around, completely trustworthy, and they are all highly skilled and dedicated to the job. Their execution of architectural details such as archways, niches, interior columns and millwork was top notch. Construction can be a long and often stressful process, but this is one contractor who will finish on schedule and leave as a friend. (Not terribly relevant, but I should add that I have never seen anyone measure and cut better than Matt Willis; how does he do it?)
Description of Work: Complete renovation/expansion of single-family home for resale. Built new 2 bedroom and bath second floor on top of original ranch house and built family room addition in rear. Installed/framed new roof trusses for second floor and rear additions. Moved/demolished/added interior partitions. Installed new staircase, new kitchen cabinets and all interior/exterior trim. Provided and installed all windows and doors. Painted entire interior and exterior. Coordinated work of all other trades including drywall, hardwood flooring, carpet, bathroom tiling, plumbing, electrical and HVAC.

Willis Builders worked for our us and remodeled our bathroom. We had a great time with Matthew, the owner who was prompt in his communication about our plans, including a run-down of what to expect in terms of delivering the completed project by factoring what would impede the progress, whether it by our families schedule or obstacles that would be faced during the tear down of the old bathroom to get the new work done (hardware/tiles/plumbing etc) so that was a breath of fresh air to get educated in the process, and to not have any questions about what was going to go on during the project. As promised, work began the time that we scheduled and phases such as demolition passed by without intrusion to schedules, and the workers kept in mind our personal preferences when it came to how to enter the home, how to leave the home, and what I wanted them to do along the way. Whenever we used to hire contractors to do work, often I would find myself having to relay details to a worker if I noticed something wasn't done, often frustrated with the lack of communication, but nevertheless my point I'm getting to is that this never happened while working with Matthew Willis... Plans turned into action, and overall we can't be happier with the job done and know that we will be saving up for more projects with them to keep adding enjoyable value without it being a hassle. Great Job.

We had a very bad leaking on our kitchen few days before thanksgiving, and we looked online to find the right contractor to get it done fast and efficient, we saw that Willis Builders had a lot of great reviews, so we decided to contact the company, Jennifer from the office was super nice and very efficient. In the very next day I had Tiago (one of Project Managers) contacting me to schedule the work, since was kind of an emergency they came by on the same day, they are very professional, polite and very clean. We had a Great thanksgiving with our family thanks to Willis Builders and the amazing crew. Thank you all, from now on Willis Builders will be my contractor for life. ;-)

Giovanny Gomez and his crew were excellent workers--there were two (and occasionally three) people on the job for two full days (40 hours labor, per Angie's List deal). Giovanny discussed the job with me beforehand and on Day 1 he and his crew arrived as planned and worked hard. I paid for a small amount of extra labor on the third day to finish painting and moving appliances into place. Price was good, thanks to the Angie's List deal. The job mostly involved renovating my (old and ugly) laundry room. They removed the old flooring and replaced it with nice-looking vinyl tile (contractor helped me choose the best tile for the job). They replaced the old laundry basin with a new basin and faucet; also installed a new ceiling, new ceiling lights, and moved the water heater and washer/dryer for better use of space in the room. This was a 'general contractors' job, as indicated in the Angie's List deal... work involved carpentry, electrical, plumbing and painting all of which were well done. Good to have a crew that could do it all. I would recommend Giovanny and company, and would use them again.

We discovered termites in the water damaged rear wall of our house. Willis Builders came highly recommended by the pest control company we use. Willis Builders did a good job of restoring the rear wall of my home that was damaged by termites. About 1 year after the job was completed, I saw that one of the siding panels installed by the company was peeling back. In March 2014, I called the company at least 3 times to report what I had seen, but received no reply to any of my calls. I sent several emails following the no-reply phone calls (now into April 2014), and still received no reply. Finally, in May 2014 (2 months after my initial phone call), I received a call back telling me to send a photo of the wall condition, which I immediately did. I received a response that someone would come to inspect the rear wall siding. In mid-May, a person from the Willis company did finally come and said that whoever from his company fixed that portion of the siding that was peeling back had used the wrong material. He said the company would return soon to fix the problem. When no one showed up in 1 month's time (by mid-June 2014) to do the fixing, I called the company, but received no reply. Nor did I get any response to more emails that I subsequently sent asking when the company would come to fix the specific rear-siding panel. The following email is a copy of my final email to Willis builders: Date: July 8, 2014 To: Willis Builders, Inc From: Gilbert Herer Since I have not received a reply from you after repeated attempts over the past 3 months, I assume one of 2 things: (a) that you are out-of-business; or (b) you don?t care to fix the problem from your work on my house. If it?s the former, I wish you good luck in whatever you do in the future. If it is the latter, shame on you. Gilbert R. Herer To this day (now the end of September 2014), I have not had anyone from Willis Builders contact me, nor come to fix the problem.

This job was corrected after the termite inspector told me the client had not been able to contact me. He had the wrong email even though I had emailed him many times before. I never received the calls either. When we went to reattach the siding where it was loose ( 5 minutes work) we gave him the correct email and he promised to amend his review however that hasn’t happened yet. He told me since he was using the incorrect email and we had done a great job he would fix it. This review is not based on the great job we did but the fact he couldn’t contact us. We have a website, we are on google, BBB and many other ways to locate our correct email and phone numbers. I am the most responsive contractor you’ll ever have. I communicate throughout the day and rarely have more then 10 I’m opened emails. I wake up and email after meditation and I always clean up every single email I get before going to bed.

I called Willis Builders to schedule a visit to our home to get an estimate for some repairs. I was pleased by the quick response and the prompt exchange of emails about the matter. It turned out however that there was a misunderstanding about what I really wanted (an estimate) and Jennifer referred me to another employee who would come home and take a look at what we wanted. Here is when things began to go south. The person who was supposed to call didn't do so for more than a week and just as I about to give up he called and we made a plan to meet. He showed up only slightly late and appeared to know his job and promised to email his estimate of the cost of work (painting and replacing an electric cooktop with a gas cooktop) the same day. Well, I have still not received the email estimate and after my experience so far I don't think I want to deal with such a disorganized operation. I have had nightmare experiences with contractors before and I don't wish to repeat the experience.

Thanks for leaving your remarks and Im very sorry there was so much mis communication. William did stop by to look at the work regarding a bedroom door repair. This is handyman service usually done by the hour. We schedule service at an agreed rate and minimum but you refused this service because you really needed a price and where not ok with handyman by the hour . On such a small job its efficient in and in our both best interest in fairness to tackle the job hourly. A salesperson needs to visit then give a price it takes more time hence greater costs. When potential clients really need a price for a 2-3 hour job it is a flag for us that this not our type of client. We did agree to send out a project manager to look at this small handyman job to serve you not us. Once he arrived William was asked how much is a gas line for the stove as a potential project in the future depending on the price. He chose the efficient route by giving a verbal price range from $1000- $1500 and our Master Plumber who is on staff would be able to visit if this verbal range was acceptable. William gave a verbal range estimate and chose not to create a detailed estimate to be compared to the other prices you would be obtaining. I personally completely understand why he chose this route to save time and energy because this is what I have taught him to do. I have met with and contracted over 4000 jobs and I know within 20 seconds and one meeting if this client is serious or going to have me spend hours to get a better price. Most of our clients are very generous and gracius for our time and diligent efficient work. I have taught my team to be effective and spend 90% of their time on our awesome quality clients who we love. Focus on helping others who appreciate you ONLY. I will very often give a verbal price before writing a detail to better serve the client. Those who appreciate others will build their value and write loving and kind reports. Entitled clients I pray will find another entitled contractor. This report I greatly appreciate because it reminds me and makes me appreciate our valued clients who become part of my extended family. Thanks so much for your confirmation report.

This is the second time I've used Willis Builders and I couldn't be happier and would highly recommend them to any of my friends (or fellow Angie's List users - which is where I initially found them). And I would definitely use them again myself. Because we rent out our 4 bedroom house in Bethesda and live on the West Coast - it was a gift to find such hardworking, conscientious and honest builders. And that includes everyone in the company from the owner to the project manager, (who I worked with) to (according to our tenants who lived downstairs while the work was being done upstairs) the onsite contractor and the workers. I'll give some background on exactly what Willis builders did. Last year they renovated an old bathroom in which the tile in the shower was cracked and we were worried it was causing water damage. They were prompt, efficient, addressed any rot concerns, retiled and, most importantly, offered some suggests for improvements, all while working within our (tight) budget. The second time we used Willis Buiders was more recently when (believe it or not) our upstairs living room ceiling came crashing down (fortunately not on our tenants!). I immediately contacted Willis Builders in a panic and Rob (the project manager) went right over and accessed the damage. The next day he brought a structural engineer to make sure it was safe to live in and from there we set up a work schedule. The work was VERY extensive because I wanted all the ceilings taken out upstairs since they were also the same thick, old plaster that had been held up with nails and not screws during the original construction in the 50s. Willis Builders also installed some ceiling fans, recessed lighting and blew in insulation. And when it came to repainting ? they painstakingly prepped the old, crumbly walls, stripped the old oil paint and repainted the interior to perfection. And ? having found Willis Builders to be such a hard-working and honest company ? we also took this opportunity to repair an exterior brick problem that we had been putting off and replace 4 windows that had rotting window frames. All of which the structural engineer had also noticed. And once again, they found a low-cost solution and procured the most conscientious bricklayers and crew so that the outcome was a good-looking refresh of the outside of our house. So I can say without a doubt that Willis Builders is a company that can consistantly meet any housing challenge with patience, creativity and very good work ? all while respecting our budget. And if you think is too glowing to be real- I'm just a REALLY happy repeat customer!

He told me he had been doing this work for years and was very picky about who he hired. They had to be the best or he would let them go. He told me his best carpenter would do the work. This led me to believe the work would be done by professionals and not sub-contracted. I met with him and his carpenter prior to the start of work and signed the contract. We discussed the work to be done (handicap ramp, new steps, handrails and painting). The following week the carpenter showed up with two other men and started the work. I noticed the name on his truck was different than the company I contracted with and asked him about it. As it turned out he was a sub-contractor for Willis Builders. The provider knew what I was asking when I asked if he had his own crew and he led me to believe he did. This was not the truth, and for this reason alone I will not use or recommend this provider. If he would do this what else might he do. As for the carpenter (Giovanni), I got lucky, he was great. The build was done in two days and the project work completed on the third day. I would give Giovanni an "A", but his painters need a little more time behind the brush. I am not disappointed with the carpenter, but I am disappointed with Willis Builders for not being completely honest with me.
Description of Work: The provider met with me, provided an estimate and a contract.

Response from Willis Builders Inc
Im very happy you where satisfied with Giovanni and his brother who performed your work. Giovanni and his brother only work with Willis Builders. I promote independence within our company and want the growth of all my employee/contractors. I don't understand why people don't like the concept of using subcontractors. I use a licensed Electrition and Hvac company and they are amazing. As far as other names of contractors on my guys trucks, It may be my company or their companies name. I do own a plumbing company and real estate investment company. Im sorry if you think I lied about having an amazing team that works for me. In fact id be happy to send you years of paystubs proving his employment if you make that B an A. please feel fee to email me if we have a deal. We did exactly what you wanted and I will still say my teams are my teams and do not work for other companies unless they are a subcontractor with their own companies. Every general contractor must have relationships with subcontractors and I highly recommend to have their own teams on staff who you treat as independent responsible reliable and most of all faith full skilled workers. The main thing of importance is quality of character because this can be built on into successful workers.

I hesitated when I got the contract from them because it gave me the cost rates and I thought I had already paid, so I got confused. It seemed so easy and yet then scheduling became a problem My son in law contracted an extended form of gullian barre syndrome, they were pregnant, and had just moved to California so I have been traveling back and forth to help the new family. I did talk to several people at the company and they seemed understanding and agreed to postpone but then we could not seem to connect to start the project.

I received a rapid response from Luis, the supervisor and we texted back and forth regarding what needed to be done. He came out to the house and appraised the situation. At first I thought his quote was a little high, but because this vendor has such positive reviews on Angie's list, I decided to have them do the work and did not get competitive bids. I first contacted them on a Friday and they were at my house to do the work at 8am (on the dot) on Monday. They were efficient and did a very good job. After I saw how much rotted wood there was, I no longer thought the estimate was high. The clean up was excellent. I did notice a very miniscule area of paint that was missed and Luis came out the next day to touch it up. I was very happy with the service I received from WIllis Builders and I will use them again.

The living room ceiling of our rented home collapsed. Willis (esp Rob) was the only vendor to respond to our landlord's outreach to multiple businesses. He was quick to respond and arranged for near-immediate cleanup of the horrendous mess and identification of a structural engineer to assess the situation (the entire ceiling throughout the main floor had to be replaced). Rob was also great explaining in realistic terms, and sensitive to our role as tenants. I can't speak to the contractual negotiations or price because that was handled (very well from our perspective) by our landlords (who live out of area). Alencar was my primary contact and lead on the on-site work. He was very responsive to my questions and very focused on his work. He helped make a potentially unbearable situation bearable, working with my availability --required to pack up most of our belongings-- and basically diminishing the impact of the work on our lives. They were able to schedule and do the messiest work while we were out of town. I can't underscore enough the quality of customer service. AND Alencar and his team did excellent, quality work in a short amount of time. Not only did they replace the ceilings, they installed new lighting fixtures, fixed some discovered wiring challenges (some of which were potentially dangerous if left ignored) and did a hero's job of prepping our 65-year-old, oil-based-under-latex-painted, plaster walls for a fresh coat of paint. They cleaned up and removed debris and trash each day, further diminishing the stress of this messy situation. (We lived downstairs in the walkout basement for the duration. I work from home.) I also noticed-- with both Rob and Alencar-- a good balance between quality and cost control-- stressing where it was important to invest more (improved wiring, energy efficient lighting), yet identifying what could be dealt with later. Rob is also a landlord and sensitive to the concerns of both owner and tenant. (I think he managed this very well.) While happy to see the interior work completed (two months from the day of the collapse) and being able to move out of the basement, I'm a bit sad to say good bye and would certainly hire this company again.

The supervisor, Louis is an excellent leader and interacts well with the client, and checks the quality of workmanship frequently and finally with the client. I would use him again and recommend him to anyone.

We contracted with Vern to replace our front door. During removal of the current door he discovered live termites and damage. He contacted us right away and called out a pest control company to do an assessment. Vern repaired all of the termite damage which required going into our fully finished basement ceiling and upper wall to replace wood and then repair and paint the drywall. He did an excellent and seamless job and you can't tell at all that any work was done. He then worked to finish up the front door. They only downside was that it took much longer than Vern had told us to complete the work. I believe the delay was only due to some family issues he was dealing with. He did bring in a couple of guys to do the finishing touches on the door and they did a good job, but there were a couple of detail items that they did not take care of this includes a couple of missing screw heads and scratches on the glass where they removed paint. Overall if the price was right I would hire Vern again.
Description of Work: Replaced front door with one purchased at home depot, painted the door and installed lock set, weather stripping and trim. Repaired termite damage discovered during the replacement of the front door
