Willis Builders Inc

The project involved removing siding from a separate garage and replacing it with fibrous cement siding. Much of the siding had rotted where it touched the ground. There was also some rotted molding where it touched the surface. I contacted Willis Builders because of the strong reviews on Angie?s List and was not disappointed. The fact that they had a broad range of skills was important to me, since I have other projects that will require different skills. While there was some delay in responding to my email description of the project, I was not disappointed after that. The bidding process with Steve was interactive and smooth. The crew chief, Tom Roberts, is excellent. He has strong analytic skills and technical skills. He independently searched for problems that might be under the surface because of the rotting and came up with solutions that would prevent future moisture problems. There was a potential issue in dealing with the electrical connections for a pool and fish pond that are mounted on one side of the garage. Rather than removing them as some contracts had bid, at high expense, he decided to build a frame around them and leave the old siding as it would not be subject to moisture. That worked very well. He and the crew members had the right skills and applied them very well. They were easy to work with and Tom?s good nature made it a pleasure to work with him. The contract was for labor with materials costs outside the bid price. There was an estimate of potential materials costs but the actual costs were higher because of the need to protect against future moisture all around the base of the garage. That should have been anticipated.

We obtained 4 bids for our bathroom work. Willis Builders was not the least expensive but was around the middle of the prices we got. However, we learned long ago that cheapest isn't necessarily the best way to go. We appreciated the creative solutions to some of the challenges the space provided. We also liked his approach to project management. The project started on time and progressed pretty rapidly. It still took 2 weeks longer than anticipated but the delays were really not in their control. One week was lost to the blizzard. The next week was delayed due to inspection delays. We also had a concern about the electrical work but emailed the owner and he was immediately responsive and we came to a mutually agreeable solution within a matter of hours. All in all it was a good experience and we are thrilled with our bathroom. We will get bids from them on our future work too.

Very well. Workmanship was very good. Good solutions. Took a little longer than expected. Beginning of the project price quote was thorough and very accurate. Knowledgeable about all facets of project.

I was very happy with the contractor. I appreciated Leo - who was in charge of our project. He was attentive and listened to our desires. He helped us make logical decisions. I would hire this contractor again.

It went well, I was contacted within two days of my initial contact. The company showed up when scheduled and did repairs that I requested.

Everything went smoothly and we are very happy with the finished result. One of the things that I liked most about working with Willis Builders was that they were the only contractor that suggested the option of building custom sidelights to fit with our style and door opening. This option ended up giving our home the look we wanted instead of having to just pick something from a catalog. They were very thorough and kept us updated on every step in the process. We look forward to working with them again in the future on our next projects.

From start to finish, Willis builders made our experience wonderful. We had a toilet leak that ruined the floor in our bathroom (our main bathroom with our only bathtub), and when Matthew came for the estimate, he was so warm, trustworthy and professional that we immediately decided to hire his company. The project manager assigned to our job, Aloisio, was also wonderful. He worked as quickly as possible without sacrificing quality. He gave us his professional opinion on things, and was very respectful of our house. He did a fantastic job putting things back together for us. The bathroom couldn't have turned out better... unless he would have surprised us with a free whirlpool tub! :)

The communication with this company is poor. Scheduling the initial estimate was fairly easy, but communicating with Steve about changes and updates to the estimate was nothing short of pulling teeth. He took 3-4 days to typically respond to an email and would often have me re-send emails as he had misplaced them. It was typical for me to email him 2-3 times before finally getting a response. The only reason I went with the company was because they offered the lowest price. I confirmed with the contractor twice about the starting time of the project (they suggested 7:30am but I told them I would not be home until 8:30am). Regardless, they showed up at 7:30am and had to wait at the doorstep 1 hour to let me in. The contractor had to cut a lot of tile which was done on my patio - it was poorly cleaned up and and now I have large gray patches on my patio that I have tried scrubbing off but hasn't totally removed the stain. They also mixed grout in an adjacent room to the bathroom (I did not know about this) but found out after they left because the entire room now has a thick layer of dust. Cleaning up clothes, bookshelves, desks, etc. to remove all this dust took a few hours. The finished product looks ok. When they were 'finished' I took a careful inspection and noticed they missed grouting in certain areas. They filled it in - but there seemed to be an overall lack of attention to detail. The project lasted 2 days - they asked me to get supplies at home depot in between the days, which I did, but they never ended up using one of the supplies. Also, when all was finished, they gave me receipts from home depot of consisting of materials I needed to pay for. It only added up to about $50, but it would have been nice to know beforehand about this. Overall, the finished work looks ok, but the lack of cleanup, mediocre attention to detail, and poor communication would not have me recommend or rehire this contractor.

I was very pleased by the quality of the repairs; the carport looks very good again. I was equally pleased that Willis Builders followed through by making sure all problems were identified, and fixes recommended. I am having them replace the roof shingles for the main roof next. I have used this company before, and have always been pleased with their work and their professionalism.

It ended up being more. it wasn't great. I think we had to have them come back. It didn't come out as smoothly as we thought it would.

I reached out to this provider, who promptly responded asking for all sorts of information (via gmail, for some reason), which I set. Then heard no response for a good week. I reached out again and got a shrug, followed by a sarcastic response. Avoid. ***UPDATE: received a follow up from the company apologizing for their conduct prompting change in evaluation score from D to B, with the "B" driven by their poor communication. That's about all I can ask for in response to the review. That said, they need to work on their responsiveness.

We enjoyed working with Aloisio on this project. He made sure he knew exactly how we wanted things and where we wanted them right down to something so small like the toilet paper holder. He was courteous of our time and worked around our availability when he wanted to meet to discuss any open questions he had. We have a few more projects left and hope to work with Aloisio in the future.

The project went smoothly and was timely. Different issues came up at different points but all were dealt with appropriately and almost all in a timely manner. When a few things weren't done according to our expectations a reasonable solution was agreed upon and completed Getting started was a bit slow when we were waiting for updated contracts to include new things but once we decided to go with Willis, it was very smooth sailing. We chose Willis because their estimate was about half of the other contractors we had out. Their initial estimate was a bit under $18000 and we did add a few things on during the project and ended up paying under $20000 to Willis in the end. In addition to great craftsmanship, there truly was a lot of value in what we had done. We were working on a budget and their estimate met it and while we added a few things, the overall cost was still very close to the estimate and within budget.

They were punctual, easy to work with, and honest. I thought they were pricey but I guess you have to pay for good service.

Very prompt and professional. Listened carefully to scope of work. Provided helpful suggestions. Returned a quote quickly. Unfortunately, I found their price to be too high.

Professional and responsive, will use again as I have a new project for them later this summer.

I could have gotten this work done cheaper, but I wanted high quality work done for my new home, so I went with Willis after much research. Willis Builders put Giovanni on the project, and he made sure everything went smoothly. When I needed to delay portions of the project in order to finish basement waterproofing, he worked with me. When I needed minor changes made to the floor plan, he accommodated me without issues. Giovanni made sure the steam shower is 100% vapor proof all around. We put the steam generator in the basement, and ran copper piping all the way up to the top floor, and it works great. The master bathroom involved some high finish levels, and Giovanni's crew made it look gorgeous, including the wood arch over the bathtub. Even odd things I wanted which they hadn't seen before, like a heated mirror inset in the shower tile walls and a floor-mounted urinal in the basement utility room's concrete floor, were handled competently and carefully. I paid for all materials, so Willis had no reason to skimp on anything. Giovanni took care of all the little things I asked for, and made the whole experience easy. In the end, the renovation is beautiful, and I'm thrilled.

They walked us through the whole project and made us feel a part of it. The bathroom results, are just what I wanted. Giovanni was our project manager. His knowledge, management and professionalism was the key reason for the success. He met with us prior to the project start to plan and advised us on the supplies. He kept excellent communication with us during the project. The workmanship is superior and he also helped us save costs throughout the project. Highly recommend Willis Builders!

It turned out very badly, we thought they did a terrible job. They were the worst contractors we ever dealt with. What happened is that they started the work. We purchased a certain number of hours and at the end of it, they were just saying that things were going fine and they took out the old stuff. They called me after a couple of days and said they'd used up the hours and you have a lot more work to do. They didn't tell me that ahead of time, they said we should be able to do almost everything with the money that you spent. I said, what does that mean? I need something more specific, you can't just say there's a lot more to be done because that could go forever. The worker said, well, if you pay me under the table I'll do it for cheap. But he was not insured so if something goes wrong there is no recourse and we weren't comfortable with that. We called a contractor who we had used before and trusted and he came in and said, this was done wrong, this was done wrong and this was done wrong. We switch to the people we used before and called Willis and said, you guys totally screwed us, you were very vague about what it was going to take and how much it was going to take. They clearly had been complained about before because Mr. Willis brought his wife to smoosh my wife and he got all these people in. They had this down to a science. They were smarmy and basically every time I asked a question that started talking in plumber speak and they were clearly, then they tried to overcharge us for stuff they had purchased already. We forced them to produce receipts and the receipts they produced were wrong and we had to force them to produce the correct receipts before we paid the difference. They were the worst people we have ever dealt with. They were not only did bad work but they were truly trying to rip us off and they were, you want to feel like they are your contractors and you can trust your contractors. All I felt like is they were trying to get one over on me and they were shysters. They were the worst contractors.

They never called me to schedule and I went out my way to call them over and over and was never able to get the work scheduled. He never called me and seemed unwilling to handle a small handyman job.

They were very helpful and completed some minor repairs that needed to be done around the house.

The work went very well. Leo came by at an earlier date to review the scope of the job. He then set up an appointment to come back and do the work. He purchased all the materials needed ahead of time (included in the total cost of the job) and he and his crew arrived on time. The work was performed in a very professional manner and Leo and his two man crew were a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend Willis Builders and I plan to use them again.
