I told the story in the last box. i am as disappointed wth Angie's list as i am with the contractor. It was a real change from the electrician i used who called me immediately when I bought the deal, made arrangements to come at a convenient time and was totally honorable.

On 4/7 I purchased my deal for 6.5 hrs of handyman services. It took about three weeks for them to get me on the schedule. I was initially pleased with the responsiveness I received from Matthew. I promptly completed their paperwork and faxed my list of repairs. I was told it might take two weeks to be contacted since they don't schedule out to far ahead. After two weeks I spoke to Omar in the office and was told that I would be contacted. I subsequently contacted Matthew for assistance in getting my job made a priority since another week had passed without being contacted. I was provided Leo's number and told he would contact me. When no call was received by 2pm ET the following Monday, I contacted him and he indicated he would need to look at his schedule and call me back. I was finally scheduled for 5/7 (1 month from the purchase). Anderson arrived promptly and completed several items for us. He was so efficient that he finished about an hour before our time was up. Repairs included: Installation of replacement outdoor flood Re-plaster of several holes Replacement and painting of several stair railings Repair to garage door to adjust pulley and re-lubricate the tracks Applied clear silicone caulk to cracks in stone veneer siding Repaired/glued broken coffee table Installed coat hooks Although initially frustrated by the scheduling experience I am ultimately very happy with the work completed.

If they are coming by have everything that you need so that they can do work. I thought the price was pretty reasonable.

We had him complete three things. He addressed a plank that needed replacing on our deck. There was a front door that he adjusted so it wouldn’t stick. Lastly, he replaced the bulbs of some very tricky lighting. He was punctual, clean, and polite.

From day one, the dedicated and professional staff of Willis Builders was a pleasure to work with. Our initial interactions were with Matthew Willis, the owner, who talked with us about what we wanted to do, provided suggestions on how to do things less expensively, and handled the financial end of things. At Matthew's suggestion, we chose to do a "design-as-you-go" approach. We had a general idea of what we wanted to do and then bought our cherry cabinets at auction as a set. The kitchen was then designed and rebuilt around the cabinets we purchased. Doing it this way saved us thousands of dollars on custom cabinets, but is not for the faint of heart because you have to be flexible in what you want and you have to be willing to make major design decisions almost every night of the first few weeks of the project. This also requires excellent communication between you and the men doing the work. Once work began, it was Marcelo, our project lead, who handled everything, although Matthew was available at a moments notice if we needed him, which we never did. I can not say enough good things about Marcelo. First of all, his workmanship is impeccable (and we are picky). He is professional, reliable, hard working, communicative, patient (especially when we changed our mind about things in he middle of the project), and an overall nice guy. Much of the work was done by Marcelo and Luis, a wonderful team who work well together and also worked well with us. At times, other members of the Willis crew were at the house lending their expertise to the project. Everyone was wonderful. Marcelo and Luis worked six days a week on the project (arriving a bit later on Saturdays so we could sleep in.) If working on Saturday had not been convenient for us, they wouldn't have done it, but we wanted to get the project to completion as fast as possible. They always worked their schedules around our schedules and tried to be as un-intrusive as possible. Every night at the end of a long day they spent time cleaning up so that the dust was at a minimum. They did this even when I encouraged them to leave the mess and go and get some rest. It was amazing how little dust there was even when walls were brought down. We chose our own granite supplier and fabricator. Marcelo orchestrated the installation, however, and was here with me when that occurred (at 6pm on a Friday night). This was good because when there was a problem with the granite, he was able to help assess the situation and help resolve it with the installers on the spot. Aside from the granite, the Willis employees did everything except installing new and refinishing our old hardwood floors. This was subcontracted out, but Marcelo made all of the arrangements with the subcontractor. Overall we are thrilled with the results and the experience of our renovation. Of course any major renovation is stressful, but ours went about as smoothly as humanly possible. This is predominately due to the professionalism of the men that Matthew Willis has assembled into a wonderful team. We are looking forward to our next project with them.

The day after I purchased the coupon I received an email from Willis Brothers! After I scheduled a date I heard from Rodrigo, I received both a phone call and an email reviewing the work to be done. Rodrigo was very professional when he arrived. We reviewed the work that was to be done. I thought I had all the necessary parts to install the sink as I had received help from the store where I purchased the items. Rodrigo told me that I needed different parts. He was very specific and helpful! He told me exactly what I needed to purchase. He started on other jobs while I ran up to the store! I knew exactly what to buy, thanks to Rodrigo! He did a great job with all items! Very efficient and friendly! I will definitely used Willis Builders again!

They were just wonderful. They sent out two men and spent 12 hours working. They were polite and cleaned up everything. They were a dream to work with.

We purchased a Big Deal coupon for Handyman for a day and then paid for a few extra hours of service - well worth it. From our first interaction with Willis Builders it was clear it is a well-organized, professional business. All our communications with them were clear and went smoothly. They sent Elijah to assist us and he was terrific - punctual, neat/clean, accurate, and easy to have in the house. I definitely will use Willis again for both handyman projects and other work around our house.

I bought a Big Deal Coupon from Angie's List for $90 and was very pleased with the service. Scheduling was a bit complicated, but once I was in touch with William, who actually did the work, it was fine. William demolished the inside of 2 closets and replastered where rods and shelves were removed. He worked very quickly and finished in little over an hour, and brought all of the materials he needed (spackle and drywall patch). He was neat and cleaned up, even removing boards with dangerous nails protruding, though that was not in the contract.

I found him on Angie's List and the proprietor is Mark Willis. He was prompt, pleasant, efficient, did a first class job, took a minimal amount of time for the job requirement, and is reasonable. I haven't gotten the final bill. The serviceman didn't have the book to give me a bill and he said they will send me one. I know it can't be absorbent as they were charging me $50 an hour and it was well worth it. I had to pay $150 up front for 3 hours of work as that is their policy. The job looks fabulous. I give them high ratings and will use them in the future if needed.

UPDATE: This is a follow-up to a post from last year (Feb 2012), as I wrote then, the handyman work that Willis Builders did was great and the guys who worked on our house were professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. In my first review, I noted that we hired Willis Builders to do some larger renovation projects (incl. kitchen, bath) and at that time felt a little more mixed. In hindsight, that was largely just due to the usual inconveniences of more significant home remodeling and the unforeseen things that come up when working on an older house. Although overdue, I wanted to follow-up and say that we were very happy with Matthew and his team -- they did a very nice job and we've been enjoying the redone spaces. We highly recommend them and would use them again ourselves. ORIGINAL: We bought an Angie's List Big Deal coupon for handyman service with Willis Builders and were very happy. Fabio and Anderson were fantastic! They worked hard, were efficient, and did a great job on everything. We have an old house, and they did a great job problem-solving when solutions weren't straightforward. We hired them for extra hours beyond what the Big Deal coupon covered, and definitely plan to call and request them for handyman services in the future. Based on this great experience, we also hired Willis Builders for two larger remodeling projects that are currently underway. So far our experiences have been a bit more mixed, but we'll post an update and a more complete review once the jobs are done.

I purchased the Angie's List $90 for 2 hours of handyman service deal. Angie's List is refunding the $90. Willis Builders had incorrect contact information for me, which was not their fault and I'm not cancelling because of that. I'm cancelling because I had the overwhelming feeling that Matthew Willis, the owner, was more interested in defending his side of the mix up by blaming me for it than he was in actually scheduling the work. The miscommunication: 1) Angie's List had an incorrect phone number on file for me, which I just discovered when I called to cancel. It didn't change my decision to cancel though (see below). 2) The company sent a contract to the Email on file with Angie's List, which went to my junk mail and got deleted. What I did to fix it: I called them when I was ready to schedule, which is when I found out the emailed contract probably got deleted from my junk mail. I gave them my work Email address over the phone and they misheard one of the letters (N instead of M I believe). We fixed that, I got the contract, signed it, and returned it via Email. I awaited a call to schedule, which is the process outlined in the contract, but I didn't received one after about a week, so I called back and left a message. Matthew Willis called me back and his response was why I am cancelling. The problem: When I spoke with Matthew, I was aware that there were contact info. issues, although I thought they had been cleared up. I was not interested in assigning blame. However, instead of trying to schedule the work Matthew began defending himself, talking about how he had tried to contact me and how he personally had spent 20-30 minutes trying to figure out my contact info. To the best of my knowledge, his assistant had corrected the information. The assistant had two correct Email addresses and I had given my correct phone number over the phone and on voicemails at least 2-3 times. I was monitoring junk mail in both Emails as well during that week and I received nothing. The defensive tone Matthew took was unnecessary and I had the overwhelming feeling, especially when paired with a previous conversation about the Email that had gone to junk mail, that Matthew was more interested in defending his company's efforts by blaming me for the confusion than he was in solving the problem, and I don't care to do business in settings where blame precedes problem solving. Yes, there were issues with the contact info., but they were fixed and instead of receiving respectful customer service with an honest attempt to get the work done, I got the feeling I had to defend myself in order to get the work scheduled. I rated them a "C" for responsiveness, bucause thier responsiveness was "fair." It was timely when Matthew was responding to my voicemails, but actually scheduling the work was not timely. A "good" effort would have been to fully correct my contact info. in their books when I initially gave them the correct info. I rated them an "F" for professionalism because a professional would have done the legwork to connect with his assistant, correct information, and, rather than blame me for delays in scheduling, simply schedule the thing and move on. I was understanding of the delay, and take some ownership in it's cause, but I will not work with a contractor who chooses to prioritize laying blame over fixing the problem. UPDATE: Matthew responded to the above posting with a voicemail that I am typing out verbatim. He tries to respond in a professional manner but misses the mark by telling me I have sensitvity issues and he ends the call with "I'm sure you'll reap your fruit." I'm not sure how he intended that last remark. Regardless of his intentions, I am taking the time to post the details of my situation in the hopes that Angie's List users, including myself, will be the benefactor of such postings, thus reaping the fruit of honest accounts of both excellent and unsatisfactory contractors. Here it is, you judge whether I have senstivity issues: Matthew Willis voicemail: Just read your report on Angie?s List. I didn?t really mean to blame you. What I was trying to tell you was that we went through a lot of effort and a lot of hard work to try to get your job scheduled, and I was looking more for a "thank you" instead of trying to blame you for having a hard time contacting you. That was not my intention was to blame you because how could I blame you when you had nothing to do with it except for Angie?s list sent us the information. So it?s not logical that I could even blame you for that. But anyway, that?s your perspective. If you?re that sensitive than that?s your issue. So I?m sorry that you felt that way, but it seems like you might have some issues there. Anyway, we did our best to try to serve you. We went out of our way. Like I said I spent 20 to 30 minutes researching and trying to call and making arrangements and I knew we had your information with my assistant; I talk to him every day. He said ?Oh, I?ve got the information, I I got the email corrected, it was just one letter that was missing so now you have the correct information.? I keep track of my business. I?m sure you?ll reap your fruit. Good luck and sorry things didn?t work out. Bye.?

Elijah contacted me before arriving to find out exactly what I needed him to do and whether I had the materials needed; he picked up some silicone caulk for the bathtub job, and also supplied the new outlets. He showed up well within the 3-hour window for the appointment, worked quickly and efficiently--so quickly, in fact, that even though I had planned to keep him around for an extra hour, after 2 hours I had nothing more for him to do! The whole thing was well worth the $90. The only downside was that I did have some trouble contacting the company to make an appointment, and when they did get in touch with me, they had somebody else's information (at first, they thought I had purchased 6 hours of service). But we got it straightened out, so it wasn't a big deal. I would still strongly recommend this company.

We took advantage of a Big Deal "Handyman for the Day" special for $319, because we had a list of about six items we needed done. We were getting ready to have company over, so we told Mr. Willis that we needed to schedule the services within the week. Someone from the office called and issued the contract immediately, and another person called to schedule the appointment/service day. Within a week, we had two "handymen" at our doorstep who worked so efficiently and effectively that we we were able to add other services such as caulking a toilet, touch-up painting, etc. We asked whether they did other types of services (taking wallpaper off; installing wainscotting), and we will defnitely use Willis Builders again! I have to add that my husband is very particular, and we have booted many service people from the house for not knowing what they were doing, acting unprofessionally, etc. He was very skeptical of any handyman service, having had such bad experiences, including with one of the more popular and expensive handyman service. He was shocked as each task he gave the Willis "handymen" was performed well. This is indeed high praise!

Overall, I was please with the handyman, efficenency, professionalisml and the work he performed. I would use the services again. They were prompt and on time. They also cleaned up any residue left after working.

We’ve had emails going back and forth and they continue to tell me that they will call me back. I was never even able to set up an appointment.

Alencar was a pleasure to work with. Punctual...polite..meticulous...professional. We look forward to using this company again in the future.

They were great. Responsive and totally professional. Leonardo was the person who came to our home and he was polite, professional,had a great attitude, and did a great job with the work we needed to have done. I would 100% recommend and will call them when we have more home-improvement needs. Also of note, a friend of mine was over while Leonardo was doing work, and she was so impressed, she requested their info so she can use them in the future.

Contractor arrived on time, and brought the tools, equipment, and materials they needed. There were no extra charges beyond some extra lumber they had to pick up for me, and they charged me exactly what they paid for it. The workers were professional and efficient and did EXCELLENT work. I will definitely be hiring them for additional projects in the future.

This business employs professional handymen that can do both plumbing and electrical work. They arrived on time and were clean, pleasant, polite and professional. They accomplished all the tasks they were given in a timely manner with high quality results. Would definitely use again and recommend highly to others.

Overall, everything went perfectly. I was assured that if anything did not work as I expected that they would return and make sure the work met my expectations. I have not had to call them back to redo anything!

The guy was excellent and pretty much able to fix everything that I asked him to do.

I purchased an Angie's Big Deal for 6.5hrs of handyman services for $299. The job went over by 1.5hrs at $49/hr. I requested that they do painting work in my townhome in Rockville. I asked them to paint a staircase hallway, which had many knicks and scruffs from moving heavy furniture. Willis Builders was very proactive. Very shortly after purchasing the deal, they reached out via email to schedule services to be performed. They came w/ appropriate supplies but I supplied my own paint. Alancar (the contractor) was very timely. He showed up at the appointed time on the dot. He was very polite and courteous. We took about 15 mins going over the job for the day during which he detailed what it would take, what he could do in that time frame, etc. He also recommended a different brand of paint (the one I initially purchased was not ideal for that wall and would take more time/multiple coats), took time to properly set up so that he wouldn't spill onto my premium hardwood floors, and even did the ceilings. He cleaned up when he was complete. The overall job was neat (he did miss one piece by the staircase which I had to come back and touch up) but overall I was pleased w/ their work.

I recently had a all-in-one kitchenette replaced in a rental unit. The new appliance didn't quite fit right due to some plumbing not quite matching up. I used the Willis handyman service and they sent Rodrigo. He really handled everything beautifully. He picked up the needed supplies, cut the drainage pipe, patched up the bad wood under the unit and patched the plaster behind the unit. Reconnected the gas/water and cut a little shelf for the top. Everything fit snug again between the kitchen cabinets and looks finished again. Rodrigo was a pleasure to work with. He couldn't be any nicer and he does great work. Just what I needed. Certainly would use them again.

Leo Gico of Willis Builders was excellent. He was very courteous and followed our instructions on where the Christmas bulbs were to be placed, His workmanship on repairing our iron gate was great. He was very detailed on his suggestions for placing additional wiring, and his desire to do everything we asked was at the highest standard.
