We had paint peeling from both our bathroom ceilings. WIllis handyman suggested installing fans in both bathrooms, vented to the outside of the house, to alleviate the buildup of moisture in the bathrooms. I agreed, but asked for an estimate first of the number of hours it was anticipated to take. The estimate was 10 hours, although in the end it was more than that. They repaired and painted the ceilings in the bathrooms. A light fixture was also replaced, and they installed trim around an electric circuit box. Despite the cost, I found that the work was beautifully done. They removed the trash and vacuumed the floors. I will use them again for jobs around the house. My only recommendation to others is to get an estimate of the number of hours it will take, since the company charges by the hour.

We had Willis Builders renovate our kitchen and renovate a guest suite. They did a great job on both projects (which we had done at the same time). Matthew and the project leaders (William and Tiago) really listened to us both on the general plan for the rooms as well as the details. They consulted us when there were choices to be made and immediately brought any unexpected situations to our attention (which happened several times in our old house). They also were flexible in terms of purchasing materials ? when we had something specific in mind that we wanted to pick out (e.g., fixtures, tile), they were happy to accommodate our picks. They had good ideas and advice when there were choices to be made, but were never pushy. I would say this is true of Matthew and his entire team ? they want you to be happy with the finished product, so they make a real effort to do things the way you want, but they are also very knowledgeable and are happy to share their expertise about different options. William and Tiago were a pleasure to work with. We feel like we got to know them over the weeks and they were always professional, friendly, and accessible. As part of this project, we also had hardwood floors refinished. I regret that I?ve forgotten his name, but the wood floor specialist did a great job and his prices were good. We also had a fair amount of painting done and Luis was fantastic. He is a very kind person and a skilled painter. Overall we are very happy with our experience with Willis Builders. The project ran a little longer than originally expected, but that was due to things added during the process. I think you would have a hard time finding better quality work for a reasonable price ? not to mention the added benefit of working with friendly and responsible people. We highly recommend them.

I didn't hear from Willis for a long time. When I contacted them to inquire, I was told that the men performing the handyman services do their own scheduling. Eventually the handyman called and said he wanted to come the next day. Initially I said "yes" then realized I had another obligation for that day. I left a message for the handyman to call me back to reschedule--but no call back. I then contacted Willis to get a message to the handyman that I wouldn't be home the next day. Eventually the handyman and I agreed on a schedule. He did good work for handyman type things such as recalking bathrooms, repairing a bookcase and replacing some loose grout. However, at the end he was almost out of time and finished in a rush and the end result was not up to the rest of the job. Oferall good work but Willis needs to have a better scheduling process.

They sent two handymen with the intent that they each work one hour. The first time didn't allow the customer to purchase additional supplies needed. Leaving one handyman with idle time. When they left, as the customer I still had the problem.

Thank you for your response so we can better our service. We are sorry for any miscomunciation regarding your option to purchase materials. We urge our clients especially on the two hour coupons to have all materials ready on the job for the most effective use of time. Im sorry if you did not have all materials ready for us and we will in the future add a request to our response email asking to have the materials to be used ready for our installation. We send two men on hourly service jobs only when two men can be most effective based on the list of work provided before we come to the job. When one man is working on a roof or in a condition where another needs to support the other we also make sure we communicate that this is a requirment for safety. We are commited to excellence and please forgive us if we have fallen short on your job.

Im so Happy you gave us an A even though we took a while to get your job on the schedule. I Guess you are a man blessed with patience and understanding to give us an A report! We have refined our scheduling process again and again and are working it perfection so we can better serve everyone. The first coupons we sold we had 85 jobs come in only 4 days! We actually called an emergency meeting to figure out how we can best serve all those who purchaed the coupons. I was a bit nervous and figured we make it work. The team put together a few great ideas and we implemented those at that time. The funny thing was we ended up serving those who wanted their jobs done yesterday first. We bent schedules and excercised the teams communication skills and made it work ,ok not so great. We still had some people with stress wanting their jobs done last week ! We got some good feedback from these people. Since then we have modified the scheduling process many times and continue to do so until everyone gives us an A for communication. Sorry for the long reply but figured anyone reading this could appreciate our best efforts to refine this area and some of the complications we have overcome.

Wow alot of work for $340. And they where polite! I love to hear the report of kindness and politeness about our team. I have been in construction since age 13 when both my step father and regular father both owned and operated construction companies. I have a very high standard of quality for our team members and do not want any uneeded stress with those who operate from a different set of principles then what is needed. I am so blessed to have kind honest polite honest hardworking family oriented men who serve our team and clients. I have seen the good bad and the ugly throughout the years growing up in this industry. Ive seen extraordinary men with amazing skills and have learned what I can from them. I will only hire those who I completly trust with a key to my own home.Ive been protected because of this and will not lower my standards under any circumstance. Thank you kindly for reminding me of the quality of our team!

I asked him to do a larger job, but he couldn't get it done in the two hours. He quoted me $160 for the job, which seemed extremely high. I did the work myself for $11. I used him for a couple other little jobs. They couldn't do anything that you didn't have all of the supplies for already. The price for the special was good, but the price he quoted me for the other work was outrageous.

Wondering how you paid yourself $11 to do a job we quoted for $160. A bit confusing. Also if our guy is there for only 2 hours and you dont have the materials then we can go purchase them for you and of course you wouldnt expect for free. Well maybe :) If we quted you a job for $160 thats great considering we have a minimum job charge of $225 for new clients. To show up for 5 minutes to a home takes the technition 3 hours of his day typically. I Strongly beleive that those who work should be paid for their time fairly. This is one of my foundational beliefs given to me at age 13 from my step father. He took me out to a school roof and we worked half a day riping off metal for the scrap yard. Yes it was a contracted job and no we didnt just go rip off metal from the roof a school! We went to the crap yard with my step dad receiving a handful of cash and he gave me $50 for helping. It was much more rewarding then my sturday morning carttons I would have been watching. Anyway I was guilty and undeserving of the $50 I Thought. He explained to me and instilled the value that " if you work hard you deserve to be paid" This lesson was reaffirmed by my real father who had worked for very hard and was not paid many times. I can thankfully say I always make sure my team is paid on time so they can support their families. Im lucky to have the reward in being awarded this honer to be responsible for paying others. Thanks for reminding me of this. If you arent willing to pay $225 for our minimum job charge in the future you can probably find someone desperate for work these days or do it yourself for $11. I would pay myself more then $11 though. :)z

AS refernced above it went exceptionally well and we are very pleased with all results.
Description of Work: This review is offered as a result of a very detailed process with Veterans Affairs of Washington,D,C. which took from contact to detailed implementation approximately 17 months with approximately 3 months of intensive 5-6 days a week of work by the the Willis building team. As a result of tremendous effort and exceptional detail from an architect recommended by the builder, Matthew Willis, we hired Douglas Mader of this area and it took approximately 12 separate drawings to meet all the requirements of VA. We successfully added a new bathroom attached to my husband's bedroom on the first (he is service disabled and unable to walk) which is 5'X5' in dimension plus an extra door off the right of his room with a private roofed deck and ramp leading to a curbed driveway which raps around to the front of the house plus an emergency exit built off the left foyer of the house through a doorway to a platform lift which lowers my husband direct to the covered garage floor. As my husband is not only disabled with Parkinson's disease of 32 years but also has severe COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) and is on oxygen 24/7 so we were very concerned about dust and construction in general, Those concerns were equally shared by the Willis team and they did an exceptional job of keeping the dust/materials down to a minimum as they put up walls with heavy plastic and building braces to separate each room from my husband's sleeping/living area. I suffer from severe allergies and asthma and enjoyed the benefit of their extra protection during this time. We ere most impressed with their professionalism, their amiability in working together and their responsiveness to our questions and concerns, sure, there were a few hiccups during the project but easily relived by simple communication between us/them. They are a very talented group of people with artistic expression as part of their work ethic. Many days they worked until 8 pm or later. But most importantly was the quality of their work which is exceptional and beautiful in our opinion. Where they could have stopped short in cases like the outdoor roofing over the deck entrance, they went the extra mile by connecting it directly to the roof of the garage. This was a major renovation and it was an exceptional positive experience for us.

In the dictionary of construction it has the definition of "the perfect client" next to is their name! I was so impressed with the extraordinary persistance to have this project become reality. Member overcame so many obstacles to get this project done. Before we even started it was monthes of preperation. If I could have done it for free , this would be a project I would have loved to do for no profit. We rewarded Member with her upstairs bathroom at no cost because she deserved it! The commitment to her husband and improving his life is remarkable! It was truly an honer building a special bathroom, ramp and bedroom for a Man who served our county many times. I love his photo of him at the front of limo trasporting the president Ronald Reagan. I was inspired to get this job done to the best of our ability. I looked at the time sheets and had noticed 13.5 hours for one day! I told Fabio this better be accurate because ill check with his wife! Then I realized maybe i had better not because if hes puting those kind of hours in she may be upset with me! Actually it was a push to make the bathroom usable for the thanksgiving holiday and weekend. Member Reported to me they stayed after 10 pm the nights before thanksgiving because we wanted Member to be able to his new bathroom Thanksgiving. Im so gratefull to have had the experiance to perform this job. Thank you for your Report!

After enjoying a wonderful Christmas dinner, the cleanup began and the water started to drip through the basement! We contacted our regular plumber and he saw the leak, which unfortunately was situated in between our bathroom and kitchen walls, but said we would need a tile man and possibly a carpenter to complete the job. I contacted my son-in-law, who is a realtor, and asked him to contact the company they use for their repair needs. Within a half hour, Matthew Willis, owner of the company called me and made arrangements for a crew to be at my house the next morning. The crew from Willis, Alencar and Victor, arrived on time, assessed the problem, estimated a two-day project and set immediately to work. The first thing they did was protect every surface they came in contact with. (No residues or debris anywhere after they left!) The repair involved cutting through the wall behind the kitchen sink and coming through the tiled wall in the bathroom shower behind it. The crew worked diligently for seven hours to replace the fifty year old pipe, drywall and re-tile the shower, finishing a full day ahead of their estimate. The results are amazing! No more leaks and no evidence of the minor demolition in the bathroom shower. I definitely plan on calling Willis Builders in the near future to complete some other projects.

Your Report inspired me ! Its funny because Alencar and Victor are so good that they are finishing up my own bathroom in my home as I write this response. We try to make special arrangments for these emergency jobs. Also your son in law who works for Llewelyn reality is one of our favorite people so whatever we can do to help him we will do! Im glad I called you back that night and was able to arrange Alencar and Victor to come the next day. Alencar can do everything so I figured for the price one would pay a plumber we could get everything or close to it done. I cant tell you how many times my clients call us after a plumber repaired a leak and left the drywall to repair and paint. Its like the normal thing. Its an honer to be able to serve you! We look forward to our next project and hopefully its not a job when we are all done and it looks the same as before!

Within 2 days of my ordering the Angie's deal, Willis contacted us and arranged for a crew to appear on Nov. 30. Gustavo and his crew arrived promptly at 8am, checked out the job and began working. Most of the work was performed by a crew of 2 but at one point 3 workers were on the job. Work continued all that Friday and all the following Monday. They proceeded to plaster and prime the entire room. My husband and I had to make several trips to the hardware stores as the work progressed - this might have been prevented had a Willis representative appraised the job beforehand and given us a list of required products. These included an alcohol based primer which not all stores carry. The quality of the work was exceptional, the crew members polite, industrious, tidy, and clearly knew their stuff. The crew chief, Gustavo, would check in occasionally and always at the end of the work day. We expected the work to run longer than the 20 hour deal and it did but the total cost, including supplies was under $2K. It was unclear to us that certain areas of the plasterwork needed further priming. We discovered this when our paint pulled away with masking tape. Such misunderstandings could be prevented by a detailed discussion with the crew chief. It's possible that the crew members tried to inform us but we didn't understand. We would certainly use this crew again and would recommend them to others with the following hints: 1. Unless you want to make multiple, rushed trips to the hardware store during the course of the job, have someone list for you the required supplies before work starts. 2. At the end of your job, have one member of the crew give you a thorough assessment of any further work that needs to be done, in our case, the additional priming.
Description of Work: We ordered the 20 hours/$950 deal on Angies list. The work was to repair water-damaged plaster bedroom walls and ceiling and get them ready to paint. This included removing wall paper on 2 of the walls. We had already stabilized and patched the plaster on 2 of the walls.

I purchased the Big Deal for Several Hours of Handyman Services for $299; I paid an additional $72 for a little bit of extra work. Builder was flexible about scheduling to get the work done, even though I contacted them somewhat close to the deadline. Builder sent a job leader and another worker to my home to do the work. Outcome was quite unsatisfying, particularly with regard to the following: ? For the replacement of the light fixture, even though I handed the job leader the box containing the light fixture and explained that I wanted the light fixture replaced, they came down a little while later to my downstairs office to tell me that I had not purchased a ceiling fan ? I had purchased a light fixture. Duh! I went upstairs, and the existing ceiling fan had been removed. Now, I can appreciate that misunderstandings happen, but when they put it back in, the wall switch supplying power to the ceiling fan no longer worked. They tried replacing the switch (which I happened to have on hand), and double checking all of the connections, to no avail. They got the light fixture on okay, and that works okay, but I can no longer turn it on and off on the wall, which is here very irritating. They blamed it on the older wiring in my house, but that's not satisfactory because it was working before they arrived. They also created a larger hole in the ceiling where the ceiling fan attaches, so there's a small bit of hole showing where the ceiling fan attaches. In addition, I had to insist with the job leader that the work to attempt to get the switch working again, and the work to reattach the fan, not be counted against the hours I would pay for. I felt like that should have been offered. ? The bathroom ventilation fan replacement generally went okay, but I felt like the fan was louder than it should've been ? I had spent well over $100 to purchase a high quality fan with a low sone rating, and while the fan was quieter than my old one, it sounded kind of rattly. Sometime in the next few days I decided to pull off the fan cover to investigate, and noticed that the fan housing was bent in one place ? looked like it had been forced in, resulting in damage, which likely is the cause of the unexpected noise. ? I did not follow-up with the builder ? I was very busy with work and did not have the energy to pursue this. So, I cannot evaluate his ability to redress issues like this. However, I do remain dissatisfied, and wanted to share this because I've seen additional Big Deals come up related to this builder and want others to view these with eyes open.

Handyman arrived a few minutes late. Said that the big deal coupon was just a way to keep his people busy in slow times, but if projects come up, they put coupon buyers off. Said that my mailbox could not be repaired without completely rebuilding the post, but when I asked him to just replace the box, he fixed it just fine. When asked to repair a small piece of damaged drywall, he said that the whole 4 foot piece needed to be redone and the sheet couldn't be cut. When I asked him to just replace the damaged part, he fixed it just fine, but did a poor finish job. At the end of the job, I felt like it had been such an inconvenience that I won't be bothering them again.

This was a handyman coupon for four hours of handyman services for only $150. This was one of the best deals I have ever gotten. The handyman came and asked what I needed done. My needs were varied. I had a dishwasher installed, a toilet repaired and some patches put on my ceiling (squirrels had eaten through). The first thing he did was install the dishwasher. He tested it and everything was fine. Then he fixed the toilet, which would not flush properly. Lastly, he fixed the ceiling in two places. Squirrels had eaten through in one spot and a pipe leaked in another. The handyman was very professional and completed everything competently and quickly. He had to go to the hardware for parts, and still completed everything before the 4 hours was up. Please read every coupon and contract carefully because had I not read the information about paying for parts and extra time I may have been surprised.

I purchased handyman services $319 for 6.5 hours and received contract on about 10-10-12. I called office to set appointment and was told there was about 2 week waiting list, and would be contacted. By mid November had not heard anything so called and I was told they would set me up ASAP. On the day scheduled they were to arrive between 9-10am. AT 12noon, they had not come or called and when I phoned they said they did not forget me but I was double booked with someone else at 9am. I was rescheduled for the next day. The next day they arrived about hour later than stated. Daryl introduced himself and his "helper" Kenny. Both were professional, courteous and friendly. I was told that this was definitely more than a 1 day job and it was unpredictable because they could not tell what was under the wood when it would be removed and wood was behind the fence which would have to be moved in order to replace the wood. They kept me updated about progress during the work. At noon they said they had to leave to be somewhere else and would return tomorrow to complete. They informed me that since my time had been used as explained in the contract that I could be charged a flat rate instead of hourly rate to complete the work which would be more economical for me. I agreed to $300. They returned the next day 2 hours late but did call to say they would be late which I appreciated. The total completion time was 1 hour 10 minutes from arrival until leaving in their truck. The total cost was $739.00 of which $122 was for material for total of about 4 hours work (2 men) including time to buy materials. I was told they would mail an itemized list of materials the following week and I am still waiting. I fault myself for not examining the work carefully before they left and I noticed that where boards were placed together it was not seamless but obvious and where the board was flush against the rim of aluminum siding, the rim of the brown aluminum siding was painted the color of the replaced board but even there it was patchy paint job. Also the outside vent was not flush with the replaced wood as it had been prior to the work. They kept me continually updated as to progress and did have to work under difficult conditions with a loud barking dog on the other side of the fence.
Description of Work: A piece of wood about 9.5 inches wide extending from bottom to top of a two story town house that is between the two townhomes. The wood had begun to deteriorate and was in need of replacement and painting. This was replaced. Also caulking was done around the outdoor front door trim.

The workmen seemed competent enough and everything is still secure. It was nice to get some things done that my husband wasn't getting to. We had the 2-hour deal, which I thought was going to be long enough to get more done but I think they accomplished quite a bit.
Description of Work: We had various small jobs performed: Hanging a curtail rod in a cramped space, rehanging a tool rack, installing brackets and handrail; starting on hanging a new closet door.

The workers who came to my house were pleasant, prompt and hard-working. But after numerous re-dos while they were still on the project, I still had to hire several people to come after they had 'finished,' to correct mistakes they had made - and some things will just have to remain incorrect. Notice that in the request above, the first thing I asked for was that the room be paneled. Although the new shower stall was paneled in, the rest of the room was not and we will still need to do that ourselves. The ceiling installation was satisfactory. In the shower, they put the hot and cold in on opposite sides of how they are installed in the rest of the house. (They put the hot faucet on the right as you face the it and the cold on the left.) Under the sink I had to call another plumber and have the trap re-done because they had put in some roller-coaster thing that immediately backed up. In re-installing the washer, they again installed hot and cold on the wrong sides, which I only discovered after shrinking a couple of sweaters by washing them in hot when I had set the dial on cold. They left the dryer, which was only two months old at the time of the work, with a dent front and center, and I had to pull it out and put in a new vent hose because they had not re-attached the old one properly and had left it venting into the room. An outlet they moved had to be repaired because only one of two plugs worked. And three weeks after they left, I finally caved in and loaded their construction debris in my car and made multiple trips to the waste center to haul away their trash. The "F" for cost was because of all the extra expense I incurred from hiring people to fix their mistakes. Despite all of that, my main complaint was not with the workmen but with Mr. Willis. My own mistake was in allowing workers to start work because I had purchased an Angie's List coupon, even though I had not received a written scope of work from his office. When the work extended beyond the coupon, I was unable to get Mr. Willis to provide a proper written scope of work or contract. The first time I asked politely for a contract for the rest of the work, he came over to the house, patted me patronizingly on the back and said, "Don't worry, customers always get nervous at this stage of the job. I'll get something to you by email today." When nothing had arrived three days later, I sent a more demanding message and got a rude "Here is how much you owe so far, pay by the end of the day," and still no scope of work or contract. I would not work with Willis Builders again.
Description of Work: Below is a quote from the initial email I sent to Willis Builders asking for an estimate: "I have an unfinished laundry room in which I would like paneling and a ceiling installed. The utility sink needs to be removed and a fiberglass shower stall installed in its place. Then the utility sink will have to be re-installed in a new place and new door installed to the outside."

Claimed speed and expertise. After Angie's discount, Rate of $40 per hour for floor installer and $40 per hour for helper were very high. After I said this was too high Willis claimed he would only charge $20 per hour for helper but contract remained to include $40 per hour (each) forr skilled layer and for helper who did relatively little. He did not lay any floor tile. Job should have been done in 3 days. Took 5 full days. I complained that at the hourly rate it would cost $6000 which was way too expensive. I complained to Willis and they lowered the installation price (not counting materials) to the average of my other estimates to $3200--still not a good price. Did a careful job and cleaned up and were courteous. Overall, did they did not tile in a wine cooler correctly so that it stick into the room and the point of diagonal tile is cut off at the doorway so that it is not as professional looking as it might be.
Description of Work: Installed 260 sq. ft of ceramic kitchen tile after removing existing sheet goods.

Responsiveness was good and we scheduled the installation without any problem. However, we were extremely disappointed to learn that the workmen had to make 3 separate trips to Home Depot for supplies and that we were being charged the hourly rate for their trips. On the last trip, both workmen went to get a marking pen! The quality of the installation was fine and when a leak was found several months later, they came out and repaired it at no charge, but the excess hourly charges left a bad taste in our mouths.
