The price was on the more expensive side of my estimates, but the detail and attention they paid during the walkthrough swung me. The end result was spectacular - it's virtually impossible to see the joins in the moulding, and everything was caulked neatly.
Cleanup in my house was non-existent, though I did have to take a scrub brush to some of my pavers in the backyard 3 times to clean up some type of liquid/solvent that had stained some of the pavers. A little soap and elbow grease, and those stains were gone.
We also had a door installed. Upon trying to install the dorr, we quickly noticed the standard door I installed was about 3 inches shorter than the old door. While we were out getting new supplies for the flooring repair, in order to rebuild the area over the door frame, I also worked with them to buy new supplies and they installed the door. Looks great. This too took a few hours longer than anticipated. They also fixed two door locks/handles in the bathroom and office and repaired a damaged gutter downspout.\Both the new flooring and the door are wonderful looking and very professionally done.
They warned me ahead of time of the possibility that the problems could be larger than it appeared and let me make full choices along the way, without needing to try to persuade me. I quickly saw the problem was more extensive than originally anticipated. It became quite apparent I had to do it, but they left the choice with me. The price was about $950 for 20 hours by Angie's list, and their extended contract was by prior contract - which I signed before they came the extra rate was $60 an hour after the first 20 hours. I guess for professionalism this was a fair price. They did not charge for providing an estimate.
The individual who did the painting was not very good about cleaning up after he finished. I had to scrub paint off from the vanity where the individual who did the painting cleaned his brushes.
I am very happy with the final project. My bathroom looks great.
I changed my grade on this project because the billing department at this company is horrible. They will try to bill you MULTIPLE TIMES for things that you have paid for. They will not provide you a full accounting of all charges or payments.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT ANYONE USES THIS COMPANY..
"Thank You so much for your positive review. Remodeled a Bathroom for under $1000 is a great deal. Thanks for taking your time to post a response."
In Mr. Willis' words from an email exchange when I asked about what I thought was a discrepancy in the information he had given me:
" When estimating I give a price for the job and its a
contract . When hourly work is done it is hourly not a contract price . I
understand people want to budget and appreciate that .
Problem is if I estimate the hours and tell the client a number the will
void the hourly agreement and go with the price I have them . :-)
I do not give estimates for jobs under 3 days . I perform hourly work and
it is what it is ."
Other contractors I considered were willing to give me a true estimate for the project.
"Thanks so much for your input to Angies List. We Did not serve this client. This was a job that would take less then one day. We have so many existing clients we are serving at this time we are only looking for a few new clients to work with. If I went to look at every job that is $200-$400 I would never see my family. Also we have a limited amount of workers we employ to perform these jobs. Due to our extreme demand from our existing clients and the limited men we employ we can only perform so many jobs. My current situation is this and I can only serve a limted amount of customers to my our companies standards. Im sorry if we do not currently give estimates for jobs under three days. I interview 10 guys and hire maybe 1 , only 1 out of 4 survive and prosper within our company. I simply do not have the energy or time to deal with less then our standard. Our existing clients call us back and tell us what they want done and say send me a bill. We are not the cheapest guy and nor do we want to be. We are looking for clients who are willing to pay below market hourly prices and those who want to shop around , Im sorry but we don't have the time. We are extremely competitive because we don't waste much time meeting people who want to save $50 on a $200 job. This allows us to focus on our clients."
I originally wanted a new shower surround....not ceramic tile. This was my Dad's money I was spending and I needed to be careful. I received little guidance when it came to shopping for the shower surround, but after I allowed them to convince me to go with ceramic tile, they assisted me with shopping for supplies. My original budget, and I informed them of this several times, was $5500. AFTER shopping for supplies that ran over $1000, I was presented with a proposal for labor at $5600. And the costs did not end there.
On the first day of service, ONE worker showed up. ONE worker to carry the existing tub/shower down the stairs and out the door. ONE worker to carry the new shower pan in through a glass storm door. Had I not been there to catch the door, we would be replacing the glass in that door.
It is very important to note that the gentleman who actually did the work did a wonderful job. He was pleasant, hard-working and neat. He always cleaned up after himself. My issue is with the misleading way the pricing was handled and the pathetic way they tried to talk me out of using the Angie's List coupon. I was told at the time I presented the coupon that the job was originally a $7500 job but they gave me a discount down to $5500 because my Father is a veteran. I was NEVER quoted $7500 because had I been, they would have been escorted out the door. AND the labor alone came to over $5500. Not only will I not use this company again, I won't allow anyone I care about to use them either.
"Thanks for your review and when I read it I was a bit confused because I have never seen a $10000 closet. When we perform hourly work we keep track of the jobs and bill hourly. This job cost to build the custom closet , electrical and painting some rooms and flooring. Total cost was $6,475 according to our quick books. Homeowner was present daily while work was being performed. The total Materials was a bit under $1,500. Im Happy the client ranked us well on the quality of work and our Workers. We determine if one man is needed or two men are needed , Some people think two men do the same work as one . I Strongly believe to have teams who are more efficient then only one. If a client request only one man to perform work we will honer it unless its absolutely needed. Sorry it cost more then you had anticipated. (10,000 or $6,475)."
"Ouch. An F yet you actually paid $1000. Some clients are very easy to schedule because they use email and respond to our attempts to schedule. Not sure what the problem is when we schedule and confirm the night before. Then Show up and perform the work leave and got paid for the work because it was to the homeowners satisfaction. We sent an email the night before stating we are confirming and will see you tomorrow. Also a phone call was made stating the same thing. Somehow it was misunderstood. I cant see why we would receive an F. The member simply stated we came not knowing what to do when we require a list of the work we are doing before scheduling. I guess Interpretation is all that matters."
"Thanks sooo Much for a good report. Im happy to hear we responded to correct anything that was stuck or not working correct. We did a kitchen two years ago and the customer called me up and the plumbing had a manufacturer defect that we corrected the next day at no charge. He was a VIP client to us because he gave us an A ranking and treated us wonderfully. Thanks again for the work and we look forward to serving you in the future."
"Thanks so much for your A Ranking! Please call us again. We Always remember our A Rankers."
"And you where one of the best clients we have the pleasure to serve. I'm happy we could add value to our service by giving some ideas on your kitchen. Give us a call on anything you need in the future please. I hope you are enjoying your kitchen."
"We love these clients who are so fun to serve and appreciate our team. Like a breath of fresh Air. Your the reason why I still post coupons and are willing to serve the public without word of mouth reference. Thanks so much!"
"Thanks so much for your positive review! I did love your master bathroom. We have been serving you for years and look forward to our next job. I sure do hope your loving your super nice bathroom. I Love it when I get a good bathroom to video record upon completion. Thanks Much!"
Six months later, the initial gap between the fascia board and the gutters (which caused the rot in the first place) still exists. I would have also appreciated a written invoice of labor hours and material costs that totaled the $949 I paid.
"Thanks so much for your inquiry. I would have advised to contact a gutter company to describe the cause of wood rot. Gutters gaping between the fascia are normal and do not cause rot. Im sad we got a C report because a normal circumstance that is supposed to be. In fact the cause of wood rot at fascia boards are cause by two main factors. First the drip edge from the shingles is not present or damaged. Sometimes the shingles are not 1 1/2 inch overhung or no drip edge is installed. Second cause of rotten fasia does have to do with the gutters overflowing onto the wood for a prolonged period of time. If there is a gap it would actually alow water to run down the gutter if overflowing and possibly avoiding the contact with the fascia. If the fasica is split or not sealed properly these conditions will speed up the rotting process. Not fair we got a bad report based on mis information, but that's what we get selling coupons. Im considering not serving anyone unless they come word of mouth recommended. A lot more happy clients and sometimes I think I take it to personal when I know my team is amazing and they care about their work."
"Thanks so much for your review ! We look forward to our next project . I am always glad when we can beat the expectations of our clients. Also an A Report is very kind of you!"
"Ok sorry we sent you two guys and had one watch the other. When you have a man on a ladder it is absolutely needed to have two men . Job wasn't finished at the end, so the client decided to leave an unfinished job because they didn't want to spend more then $319. The problem with the coupons we sell we don't get to filter our clients. Sorry for being sarcastic on the first line but it always upsets me when I have clients think two men are not needed or productive."
"On your contract it says very clearly you will pay us to purchase materials and reimburse us for your materials. I cant understand how people actually think we charge $145 to Buy $200 in materials and work for 3 hours. So we would pay you to work at your house and give you $55 worth of materials. I Will never offer a two hour coupon ever again. The figuring out the materials and purchasing is a job and a skill , therefore people should be paid for their time to perform this job. So let me recap , Client expects to pay $145 to visit, look, measure , purchase materials for $200 then drive back from the store (gas)( Vehicle use) (time) with the materials. Then Install them properly in three hours. I wish we could do this because if we could we would be the highest ranking company on Angies List ever. We would be ranked very high but would be out of business rather quickly."
"I Love A reports!"
I am sorry but I did not have a positive experience
