Willis Builders could not have been more professional and efficient. Everyone that worked on the project was excellent! They met with us and consulted with us frequently to ensure that the project was on track. They helped us determine what repairs and renovations were needed to the house following a medical event that left our family member with some lingering disabilities. They helped us identify what modifications would be most beneficial to help lessen the impact of the disabilities and they were compassionate and caring. Every member of the crew followed through with every detail. At the same time, they understood and respected our budget constraints and made valuable suggestions to help us contain costs. They did an excellent job in every area, going the extra mile to ensure that the house is beautiful and the work immaculate in every way. Their work helped us increase the appraised value of the house by a substantial amount! My family has used them before in our various homes to do projects large and small and will use them again and again. They are our contractors for life! I wish I could give them an A++!

They crew was punctual, actually early. The agreement was to wash the roof as well as the siding. There was a miss communication between the owner and crew on how much work was to be done. They accommodated us and completed all work agreed upon at agreed price. I was very pleased with the work done. Our house looked so good that our neighbor hired them to work on their house.

They accomplished a lot of work with the time they were given. They also helped me prepare the maximize what they were going to do and I was very pleased.
Description of Work: I puchased a Big Deal from this company for only $319.00 for a handman for a day.
Rodrigo worked on our new house for almost 2 weeks. I used an Angie's list deal to get us started, but ended up having about 80hrs of work. During our initial meeting we did a walk through and I identified everything on my wish list. I didn't expect to get it all done, but once they were going, the quality of the work and their quick pace lead me to decide to do it all. They worked around the flooring being installed in the house, and finished completely on schedule. Every day at 8 I could count on someone showing up to work, and for them to be there most of the day. Rodrigo was excellent to work with. He helped me make several decisions, both function (e.g. what type of outlets I needed) and style (how to end the molding at the windows) and his input made the house better. He seemed to keep my budget and priorities in mind as he went. They removed part of a wall and the finish work makes it look like it was always like that. They installed the outlets necessary for us to have a TV above the fireplace, including HDMI cables. They (Augustus, who does outstanding work) took down existing poorly installed chair rail and crown molding and reinstalled it. It looks like it was always there, and is beautiful. They painting many rooms (Luis's crew) and did a nice job despite the humidity. When I did have a few minor issues with the painting, they came back out and fixed it, at no additional charge. Matt Willis and his admin staff are prompt in their response and helpful during and after the process. I am very happy with the final result. I will be calling them this winter to do some more work around the house.

We had 2 different contractor specialists. My husband and I purchased beautiful glass tile backsplash and had it installed. The contractor was professional. He arrived on time and did a wonderful job! The only thing we were mindful of was some confusion as to what materials needed to be purchased...we made 3 trips to home depot and wasted time is money...so I just recommend that you get a clear understanding of what materials need to be purchased in advance or have the contractors pick up the needed materials for you prior to the job. Also, be aware that a backsplash project can be kind of messy, so don't be surprised like I was...something about the grout...just leaves a film...we had an issue with some gaps in the grout and our specialist came back the next day and fixed it, no problems! The backsplash is in and gorgeous! We are very happy! The second specialist came to do some floor trim. The prior owner put in kitchen tile and it didn't meet the hardwoord floors properly and there was a terrible gap...it was a trip hazard and cosmetically unappealing. We brought in a few different people to ask for recommendations and get cost estimates to see how we could deal with the problem and most people just didn't even know where to start or wanted a lot of money....we were even given suggestions like tear out the tile or replace the hardwood, which we didn't want to do...and then Willis Builders came and in and with confidence he said they would find us a good solution and they did just that...they hand cut a trim that not only solved the problem, but it looked like it belonged there all along! And they stained the wood to match the existing hardwood floors perfectly! AWESOME! My husband and I could not be happier!!
Description of Work: Installed kitchen backsplash and floor trim.
I was very happy with their work and cooperative attitude. They worked hard and skillfully and they cleaned up properly as they went along and at the end. I would definitely use Willis again.
Description of Work: Willis sent a crew which worked hard all day (about 8 hours). There were two carpenters plus a supervisor/carpenter who stayed part of the day and helped to get materials together and the work underway. They repaired a large hole in my garage ceiling (installing drywall and carefully working around electric wires etc.). They also installed insulation panels in the garage ceiling to improve the temperature in the office above the garage. And they built a wooden mantelpiece to replace the old, unattractive mantel which I wanted removed..
My wife and I had used Willis Builders many times to do general household repairs and maintenance. When we needed to remodel our master bathroom in our house in Gaithersburg, MD because of water damage, I contacted Matt Willis and he gave me a fair price for the labor to rip out the old tub, toilet, vanity and countertop, and floor and wall tile, and to repair the damaged flooring and drywall, and to install all new materials (we agreed that my wife and I would supply the main materials, such as new tub, toilet, vanity, countertop, and tile because my wife and I wanted to choose everything). Aloisio was assigned by Matt as our remodeler. Aloisio did a fantastic job. He covered as much as possible to minimize the spread of construction dust. He talked to us and explained if he discovered any issues and made recommendations to resolve them. He installed a new electrical line to supply power to our new Jacuzzi bathtub. Aloisio did wonderful carpentry and tile work and was a perfectionist in all that he did. Our new master bathroom looks great! We are so pleased that we have hired Willis Builders to also remodel another bathroom in our home. Aloisio is in demand and already had his next project scheduled, so we have to wait a few weeks for him to start remodeling our second bathroom. We are looking forward to having him upgrade another bathroom in our home.

We met with Willis sometime in early January. We met with several different builders for this job and found Matt to be the most personable and willing to talk through different ideas. Our build was somewhat unique in that we already had the design in our heads, and we wanted some unique features. Matt was extremely accommodating and interested in working with us to figure out the right way to do things. You could tell that he was evaluating us as customers just as surely as we were evaluating him and his team, and we liked that. We had Leo as our Project Manager for the whole project. Leo was incredibly professional, knowledgeable and skillful. His abilities and work ethic set us at ease immediately. We had a team of 3 at our house most days, all very personable and great, with that number jumping up to 4 or 5 on busy days as necessary. Our arrangement was for a set labor fee for the main piece of the work and hourly labor fees for any additional special features we outlined. This setup worked well for us as we knew we would want some special "upgrades" and we'd be able to deal with that cost and hour estimates up front, or choose to forego it if we decided it was too expensive. All of the standard work was done extremely well. Demolition was done quickly and cleanly. We have a 1 year old and they were very particular to cover all vents and doorways to keep the mess in the basement. Willis did all the electrical and plumbing in house. In fact, the only parts of the job that were outsources were some minor brickwork (to a professional mason), the stairs, and the carpet. Everything else was done by Willis themselves. This was great as the same guys were at the house most days, which made us feel very comfortable. My wife and I made some drawings of what we wanted for our special features, and the guys used these extensively as a guide to make things the way we wanted. The special features were: A secret door hidden behind a large bookshelf - all custom built on a wood door core, with hidden hinges and magnetic close. Opens easily and holds tons of books A large wood bar - Willis hooked us up with Exotic Lumber in Gaithersburg and we got a massive slab of bubinga for the bar top A reading nook under the stairs for our kids A built in entertainment unit and shelves built into already existing brick. The secret door especially is a thing of beauty. All work was done extremely well. They were very timely and very communicative at all steps of the project. I think the biggest hurdle for large projects like this is communication. Leo and Matt both were great about this, and it's important to remember that it's also the responsibility of the owners to make sure things get done properly. We had a couple of _very_ minor hurdles with communication in dealing with the subcontractors. Specifically, the wrap around steps weren't done the way we wanted at first and the mason came about a week later than expected. But in a large project like this, minor hiccups will happen and it was still handled very well. Willis made little recommendations along the way that will be helpful in the future. Since we want to redo our kitchen in a few years, we ran additional wires over to the kitchen in preparation so we won't have to knock out the ceiling later. We didn't want a louvered door to our furnace room, so they added a louvered vent for ventilation. We added some outdoor outlets onto the project, which was no problem. I plan to use Willis again in the future for at least our kitchen and possibly a couple of other projects. I would recommend them to anyone, especially if you have the opportunity to work with Leo.
Description of Work: Willis Builders did a complete gut and renovation of our ~1100 sq. ft basement, which included a full bathroom. The original basement was classic 1950s wood with a drop ceiling. They gutted the entire space, ran all new plumbing, electrical, framing, flooring, a new bar, a new bathroom, and all the finishes, including some rather unique and special details
Rodrigo was assigned to be our project manager, and we could not be more pleased with the superior quality of the work he has performed. He is always punctual, pleasant, takes into consideration our desires for the projects, and is an artist in his own right! We have an older home that doesn't meet the standard measurements of many modern building materials, so he custom designed and built new screens for our screened porch that has resulted in a vast improvement from what we previously had, and will now last for many years. Replacing the fencing around our patio was an equally tough job, but Rodrigo managed to get it done efficiently and professionally, and has provided us with many helpful suggestions to consider on future projects. We will certainly plan to return to Willis Builders, Inc. for any future projects, large or small, that require a general contractor or builder.
Description of Work: Rebuilt screens on our porch, replaced stockade fencing around our patio, and restored the carpentry around our door crown.

My experience with Willis Builders was excellent. The office and their contractors were professional and punctual, and I never needed to worry about what was happening, or when. The price was on the more expensive side of my estimates, but the detail and attention they paid during the walkthrough swung me. The end result was spectacular - it's virtually impossible to see the joins in the moulding, and everything was caulked neatly. Cleanup in my house was non-existent, though I did have to take a scrub brush to some of my pavers in the backyard 3 times to clean up some type of liquid/solvent that had stained some of the pavers. A little soap and elbow grease, and those stains were gone.
Description of Work: Installed crown moulding in two rooms - approx 200 linear feet.
I really liked them. I liked that they contacted me the day after I bought the coupon, which was really nice. They were very attentive and reasonable in terms of what the charged. The guy in charge supervised all the work very well and we were very pleased with everything.
Description of Work: Willis Builders Inc replaced our deck, fixed the roof problem of the garage, replaced a rotted wood frame and trim, fixed the brick that had come loose, and replaced a bathroom faucet for us.
Originally I asked them to replace old cheap vinyl flooring (came with the house) with a luxury vinyl (crushed stone). They removed the old vinyl tile flooring in the kitchen and adjoinging laundry room, which was layered pretty thick (in fact, we discovered that there were three layers of vinyl). As we removed the flooring, we discovered that under the laundry tub rotted wood had already destroyed and actually was currently ruining the floor underneath. Previously a foundation inspector noticed a water leakage problem with the floor in the laundry room when he viewed the crawl space underneath the laundry room. We assumed the problem was a leaking washing machine, and readjusted it, but that didn't seem to fix the problem. They pointed how bad the flooring was not fixed and identified the source as the laundry tub; this contracted noticed there was a damaged flange connecting the laundry tub pipe works. We also clearly saw a pattern of water spots around the laundry tub base and around the flange in particular. They informed me of that problem and kindly asked me if I wanted to repair the floor and build new floor where it was damaged or simply tile over. After questioning them, I then knew this was the optinmal time to fix the problem and not simply paper it over. So this delayed the job another 1/2 day. I had to go out with them and purchase new materials to rebuild the damaged section of floor. Then they removed and rebuilt the foundation of the floor so we had a solid layer for tiling. They then installed the new tile and grouted it after it was installed. We bought a new laundry tub, fixed the plumbing. and then assembled it and installed it over the tile. We also had a door installed. Upon trying to install the dorr, we quickly noticed the standard door I installed was about 3 inches shorter than the old door. While we were out getting new supplies for the flooring repair, in order to rebuild the area over the door frame, I also worked with them to buy new supplies and they installed the door. Looks great. This too took a few hours longer than anticipated. They also fixed two door locks/handles in the bathroom and office and repaired a damaged gutter downspout.\Both the new flooring and the door are wonderful looking and very professionally done. They warned me ahead of time of the possibility that the problems could be larger than it appeared and let me make full choices along the way, without needing to try to persuade me. I quickly saw the problem was more extensive than originally anticipated. It became quite apparent I had to do it, but they left the choice with me. The price was about $950 for 20 hours by Angie's list, and their extended contract was by prior contract - which I signed before they came the extra rate was $60 an hour after the first 20 hours. I guess for professionalism this was a fair price. They did not charge for providing an estimate.
Description of Work: Installed new floor in the kitchen and adjoining laundry room. Replaced new front door. Changed lock/handles for bathroom and office. Repaired a damaged gutter downspout.

It went well. The project seems to take longer than I had expected. The individual who was working on my project was not able to spend all of his time working on my project he had other projects he was splitting his time with. The individual who did the painting was not very good about cleaning up after he finished. I had to scrub paint off from the vanity where the individual who did the painting cleaned his brushes. I am very happy with the final project. My bathroom looks great. I changed my grade on this project because the billing department at this company is horrible. They will try to bill you MULTIPLE TIMES for things that you have paid for. They will not provide you a full accounting of all charges or payments. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT ANYONE USES THIS COMPANY..

Mr. Willis has an odd way of providing estimates for small job - anything under 3 days of work. I sent him a picture of the area I wanted to have demolished (a wet bar) and we "discussed" his estimate via email. He did not offer to come to my home to see the area under consideration for work. In Mr. Willis' words from an email exchange when I asked about what I thought was a discrepancy in the information he had given me: " When estimating I give a price for the job and its a contract . When hourly work is done it is hourly not a contract price . I understand people want to budget and appreciate that . Problem is if I estimate the hours and tell the client a number the will void the hourly agreement and go with the price I have them . :-) I do not give estimates for jobs under 3 days . I perform hourly work and it is what it is ." Other contractors I considered were willing to give me a true estimate for the project.

Thanks so much for your input to Angies List. We Did not serve this client. This was a job that would take less then one day. We have so many existing clients we are serving at this time we are only looking for a few new clients to work with. If I went to look at every job that is $200-$400 I would never see my family. Also we have a limited amount of workers we employ to perform these jobs. Due to our extreme demand from our existing clients and the limited men we employ we can only perform so many jobs. My current situation is this and I can only serve a limted amount of customers to my our companies standards. Im sorry if we do not currently give estimates for jobs under three days. I interview 10 guys and hire maybe 1 , only 1 out of 4 survive and prosper within our company. I simply do not have the energy or time to deal with less then our standard. Our existing clients call us back and tell us what they want done and say send me a bill. We are not the cheapest guy and nor do we want to be. We are looking for clients who are willing to pay below market hourly prices and those who want to shop around , Im sorry but we don't have the time. We are extremely competitive because we don't waste much time meeting people who want to save $50 on a $200 job. This allows us to focus on our clients.

If you don't read all of this review, please know one thing. The project manager I dealt with tried to GUILT ME out of using the coupon that was posted on Angie's List. He claimed he didn't know about it. I asked this guy TWICE about the Angie's List discount and he did not address it. When I printed the coupon and presented it to him, he said using it was my prerogative but that the money would come out of the worker's share of the money. VERY BAD business. I noted after my job was complete that the language on their coupons changed. Now they must be presented before the estimate is done. Interesting. I originally wanted a new shower surround....not ceramic tile. This was my Dad's money I was spending and I needed to be careful. I received little guidance when it came to shopping for the shower surround, but after I allowed them to convince me to go with ceramic tile, they assisted me with shopping for supplies. My original budget, and I informed them of this several times, was $5500. AFTER shopping for supplies that ran over $1000, I was presented with a proposal for labor at $5600. And the costs did not end there. On the first day of service, ONE worker showed up. ONE worker to carry the existing tub/shower down the stairs and out the door. ONE worker to carry the new shower pan in through a glass storm door. Had I not been there to catch the door, we would be replacing the glass in that door. It is very important to note that the gentleman who actually did the work did a wonderful job. He was pleasant, hard-working and neat. He always cleaned up after himself. My issue is with the misleading way the pricing was handled and the pathetic way they tried to talk me out of using the Angie's List coupon. I was told at the time I presented the coupon that the job was originally a $7500 job but they gave me a discount down to $5500 because my Father is a veteran. I was NEVER quoted $7500 because had I been, they would have been escorted out the door. AND the labor alone came to over $5500. Not only will I not use this company again, I won't allow anyone I care about to use them either.
Description of Work: I needed our existing tub/shower surround removed and replaced with a shower because of an elderly parent moving in with us. The shower needed to be equipped with grab bars. Initially, I selected this company rather than using a rebath company because I was given the impression it would be less expensive.

Ouch. An F yet you actually paid $1000. Some clients are very easy to schedule because they use email and respond to our attempts to schedule. Not sure what the problem is when we schedule and confirm the night before. Then Show up and perform the work leave and got paid for the work because it was to the homeowners satisfaction. We sent an email the night before stating we are confirming and will see you tomorrow. Also a phone call was made stating the same thing. Somehow it was misunderstood. I cant see why we would receive an F. The member simply stated we came not knowing what to do when we require a list of the work we are doing before scheduling. I guess Interpretation is all that matters.

We had bought the coupons through Angies List for 40 hours of work plus supplies. They came in and we inquired with them how long it would take for them to do the closet and they told us that it would not take much more than what the coupon is so we agreed. We again thought that there would only be one man to do the work but there were two men. The billing was double. It turned out to be the most expensive closet in history I think. It cost us $10000. While the closet looks nice and they had put in decent stuff, it turned out that they did not put adequate insulation into the closet. So the closet in winter time is freezing cold and in summer it is as hot as it could be. We recognize it, it does not have air- conditioning or heating inside the closet, but neither do our other closets. That clearly shows that they had not put in enough insulation. Other than the insulation the quality of the work was okay. The people were very nice but they did not give us an adequate estimate, nor did they give any idea that it would cost us that kind of money. It shocked us when we got the bill. I don’t deny that they put the hours in but I don’t know that they needed it or if they did needed it, they should have told us in the first place. I don’t think I would have spent $10000 on a closet. They were an A listed company. Overall they were very nice; they did good work other than failing to put in enough insulation.

Thanks for your review and when I read it I was a bit confused because I have never seen a $10000 closet. When we perform hourly work we keep track of the jobs and bill hourly. This job cost to build the custom closet , electrical and painting some rooms and flooring. Total cost was $6,475 according to our quick books. Homeowner was present daily while work was being performed. The total Materials was a bit under $1,500. Im Happy the client ranked us well on the quality of work and our Workers. We determine if one man is needed or two men are needed , Some people think two men do the same work as one . I Strongly believe to have teams who are more efficient then only one. If a client request only one man to perform work we will honer it unless its absolutely needed. Sorry it cost more then you had anticipated. (10,000 or $6,475).
It went well. Two of the owner's men did all the work. They were quick and neat and polite and came when expected. After they were finished and I had problems getting one of the windows to latch securely, two of his men came right over and made some minor adjustments.
Description of Work: We had significant termite damage. They tore out two walls in our partially underground living room, replaced the framing, installed drywall and paint. One wall included a medium sized window that had to be replaced. You can't tell that these walls are any different from the others. We also had one large window in another room replaced whose seals had gone bad.

The consultation meeting with Matthew and Rodrigo was very helpful to determine the scope of work and how long it would take to complete. They had great suggestions for our kitchen remodel. Overall, the initial contact was great. I sent an email to the provider to detail EXACTLY what I wanted to ensure they could do the work. He assured me that this was not a problem and very routine in his line of work. I asked again if he was certain and he assured me AGAIN that his employees could do the work. Most important to me was re-installing the gutters to eliminate the gap between the fascia board and the gutters that caused the initial rot. i made this clear to the owner. Six months later, the initial gap between the fascia board and the gutters (which caused the rot in the first place) still exists. I would have also appreciated a written invoice of labor hours and material costs that totaled the $949 I paid.
Description of Work: Replace the woo fascia board behind gutters as the wood had rotted. Replace wood around the house and garage that had rotted.

Thanks so much for your inquiry. I would have advised to contact a gutter company to describe the cause of wood rot. Gutters gaping between the fascia are normal and do not cause rot. Im sad we got a C report because a normal circumstance that is supposed to be. In fact the cause of wood rot at fascia boards are cause by two main factors. First the drip edge from the shingles is not present or damaged. Sometimes the shingles are not 1 1/2 inch overhung or no drip edge is installed. Second cause of rotten fasia does have to do with the gutters overflowing onto the wood for a prolonged period of time. If there is a gap it would actually alow water to run down the gutter if overflowing and possibly avoiding the contact with the fascia. If the fasica is split or not sealed properly these conditions will speed up the rotting process. Not fair we got a bad report based on mis information, but that's what we get selling coupons. Im considering not serving anyone unless they come word of mouth recommended. A lot more happy clients and sometimes I think I take it to personal when I know my team is amazing and they care about their work.

The work went well. Not debris left after the job was complete.
Description of Work: They did 6.5 hours of handyman work. He capped some bad wood until I get the entire beam reapired. The handyman sent to my home was very responsive, and even though I didn't have much on my to do list, he found small projects to do that I needed done that utilized the whole 6.5 hours. I would hire them again.
