 + 2 moreIt was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. They did really good on this job and I had them come back and do another job. The young guys that came did good work. Their English was better than my Spanish. Their manager kept coming back and he could communicate with everybody. I wasn't unhappy but I had some other work for them to do. I paid them but they never got back to me about the other work. I didn't have any complaints about the quality of work they did about both jobs but every time I called them, I said I had more work for them to do and they said they would get back in touch with me but eventually I got somebody else to do the work. Everybody that came was very nice, polite, professional and cordial. The people on the phone contacted me right after I bought the Deal. I wasn't in the country when I purchased the Deal and they were quite cooperative about waiting. I paid additional for materials. They had two people here for a day on the Deal and they worked theirs butts off. I felt I got my money's worth. It was 16 hours of work for $999. I was quite happy with the Deal and they came back for another job and I was quite happy with that. They were nice people and they didn't take advantage of me because I'm old. I asked for the same team to come back so it may be my fault that they may not be available.
Description of Work: I used Willis Builders to do a lot bunch of handyman type jobs. Animals had gotten in the attic and ripped up the attic vents and they fixed those and the insulation. They put shutters on the front of the house. They broke up a stone that I hit when I was putting in a mailbox. They plastered a hole in the ceiling.

 + 0 moreThe work that was performed really was excellent. These guys knew what they were doing and I would use them again. They were really professional and completely cleaned up everything after they were done. They also took proper steps to ensure my furniture was covered to protect it. I thought the price was very fair based on the experience level of the guys performing the work. They provided all receipts and specific itemized lists of what was used/spent for invoicing; the also asked questions before they started working to ensure it was clear exactly what I wanted. There were only a few issues with communication - (e.g. time response to email messages, phone calls, etc). I understand that they normally do big projects and have a lot of projects to manage, and my projects were on the smaller scale in terms of what they do. There was one day that it was not clear what time they were going to arrive to start work so I had to call and ask, but really it wasn't a big deal. They did have to come back and repaint one small area, but there was a piece of furniture in front of it so I could see how they missed it the first time. They came back at my convenience; honestly, everything was arranged according to my schedule and availability. I would recommend them for anyone who has carpentry projects.

 + 2 moreLuis and and his crew were always on time, professional, and skilled. There were multiple workmen that cycled in and out depending on what needed doing that day (e.g. drywall vs painting). They didn't all speak English but there was always someone here who did, well enough. There were never people here that didn't need to be -- everyone who was here always had stuff to do and was always working. The room had significant damage to the ceiling (from being stepped through from the attic) and one wall (best we can tell, from the earthquake a while back). It also hadn't been redecorated in over 25 years. The job was completed in a week, with four days of work (they took one day off to let some of the drywall work fully set before sanding and painting), with a couple of hours on Saturday to do final touch-up and to give another coat of paint where it was needed. The communication during the job was excellent. Luis always made sure we knew what to expect as far as when people would be here and what they would be doing. He always discussed options for how to proceed and what materials would be used where, helped us to understand the cost/benefit trade-offs, and he always accepted our choices without question or pressure. There was also nothing we had to tell him twice. Multiple times during the week he made sure we knew where we stood on labor hours and how much he thought was still left to do. He had given a labor estimate at the first consultation that turned out to be high by over ten hours, partly because we did some prep work (stripping wallpaper) ourselves before they came, and also made some choices that turned out to be easier and faster than what he was allowing for. Still, the job turned out to be more than what the "deal" provided for, but the hourly rate for the extra work was very reasonable. For the materials, he went over the receipts at the end and left us with everything that remained unused. Now that it is complete, we are just thrilled with the result. The room looks fantastic and they did the job exactly as we wanted.

In addition to the garage, I had asked them to replace some trim, fix the gutters, and build custom boxes around the porch posts. This extra work made the front of the house look much, much better. I provided a simple picture of the boxing I wanted around my columns and it was done exactly as I had hoped. The project manager stayed in contact with me when there were any questions so there were no problems or delays. I would recommend Willis Builders wholeheartedly. When I first contacted Mr. Willis and met with his project manager Marcelo, I was really surprised that what ever I asked for - I was told 'no problem - yes we can do this' - Marcelo even made his recommendations which were very much appreciated and accepted. It is a pleasure working with one contact to complete so many different tasks. The price did not include materials which was fine with me. The crew was very professional any very trustworthy to leave them in my house when I had to go to work - no idle time other than for lunch, they cleaned up after themselves and were on time as promised - Beginning this task was the installation of the deck lights - the work was amazing - the electrical wires were fished thru the posts and hidden underneath - I had purchased the lights and did not realize that the actual timer was not included in my order - Marcelo found the transformer and timer and notified me immediately to get my approval to purchase - and now they are completing my kitchen pantry - knowing what I wanted Marcelo listened to me and delivered as promised - they cut around the kitchen floor to fit the pantry so when in the future I have the kitchen floor replaced they will not have to disturb the area - they used levels to be accurate and straight - I am so eager to be able to use and fill the pantry - they were very careful about protecting the rest of the house and put plastic around the work area to secure the dust - another perfect quality is they share their ideas which sometimes we as homeowners overlook - after this experience - I am looking forward to completing other projects in my home and I definitely will use them again and again!!

 + 1 moreVern Krieger came to give us an estimate. He was very thorough and nice to deal with, and even removed some of the debris from the ceiling at the same time. We really appreciated this, since sections of plaster and dust had been falling from the ceiling, so we could then walk under that area safely. This partly influenced our decision to use his company, in addition to all the detailed advice he gave us regarding this work and another future job. The drywall installation went very well, and Rodrigo Fleitas, the project manager, returned to sand it after it had dried, after which it was painted. I had anticipated a lot of dust, but they avoided this as far as possible. Eurico Avila painted the front door and ceiling. They removed the front door (unlike the previous company we had had), sanded it very carefully, and did a good paint job, and cleaned up well afterwards. Also Rodrigo changed our locks and installed a new mail slot and did a good job. Both Rodrigo and Eurico are very courteous, nice to work with, and professional, and cleaned up well. They take pride in their work. I would not hesitate to use the Willis company again
Description of Work: Due to a plumbing leak they had to remove part of the old plaster ceiling in our kitchen, install drywall, and paint the ceiling. They also sanded our front door and painted it, and installed new locks on the front and back doors and a new mail slot.

Luis showed up on time and carefully went through the work with me. He clearly understood what needed to be done. They sent me an estimate within two days and the price was very fair. It was comparable to other pricing I received. When I had a couple of questions, I called the office. Matthew Willis got back to be the same day and we got everything squared away. The work was scheduled at a time that worked for me. The workers showed up as promised and Luis was there making sure everything was done exactly as we had discussed. The quality of the work was excellent. They did a good job cleaning up when they were done. I couldn't have asked for more. I would definitely use them again and will recommend them to friends.

I HAVE 4 CRACKED TILES AND I AM NOT LOOKING TO RE-DO AN ENTIRE FLOOR. FIY- I DO NOT HAVE ADDITIONAL TILES AVAILABLE BUT I THOUGHT SOMEONE WITH EXPERIENCE COULD SUGGEST ANOTHER OPTION. NO ANSWER HERE. SO I SAID TO GIVE ME AN ESTIMATE ON THE WHOLE FLOOR. THAT WAS THE 20TH OF AUGUST. TODAY IS SEPTEMBER 10TH. AND STILL NO ESTIMATE. I WOULD NOT USE THEM IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCE NOW.

Description of Work: I called the company as directed on the Angie's List coupon several times in February 2012 with no return call. Finally in March after leaving a voice mail saying I was seeking a refund did I receive a return call to schedule the appointment but first they wanted me to sign the contract and return (which i already had done - which the said they did not receive). So i did it again as i had not kept the original. I also included a list of the items we were seeking to have repaired or installed and to also include any jobs which we wanted estimates on. After several weeks of not receiving a return call to schedule the appt - i started calling and leaving messages everyday. I thought mistakenly perhaps they were overwhelmed with coupon takers and as we did not need the items completed till August (in time for a family reunion). I talked to several people several times that we had over 10 different jobs needing completion and we would definitely need more time then the two hours and if it went well we would gladly pay for more time. After faxing and emailing the contract and still not receiving contact to schedule the appt. I was feeling very frustrated and left another voice mail stating that i wanted a refund as no one was calling me back they again re-initiated contact. Matthew Willis stated that they had not heard from me at all - which was not true i had talked to Leo and Omar several times over Feb. and March. I forwarded the signed contract and list of items needing estimates again 3/26/12. I know the date as at this point i actively started keeping track. I was getting sincerely frustrated. I called over and over again to schedule appt only to get the run around amongst Leo and Omar each blaming each other for not hearing back or scheduling the appt and that they would get back to me when they were in the office or that they would have the tech themselves schedule the appt as they were sub-contracting the jobs out. I called 6/5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 13, 26, 2012 before i finally gave up and just decided it wasn't worth it. I was spending more time trying to get them to do the job then the job would have taken if i just sat down with the manuals and figured it out for myself. These were not difficult jobs - stuff like putting up a motion sensor driveway light, installing a range hood (we had taken it down to install tile - so they were merely re-installing it), hanging a microwave, requests estimates on installing ceiling fans - ceiling lights - molding - transition strips (for the new flooring we installed ourselves) - walk way lights outside along a path. There was a guy we talked to who seemed like an actual worker named "Marcello" he came out with another guy who spoke no english and asked what we wanted completed - we again showed him the list which he said he could not read english. So my Mother went item by item and showed him around the house - he stated he could not give estimates on any of the work that he would have someone from the office call us - that he could not install the range hood or microwave as he did not know how, he finally said he could install the garage sensor flood light - which took him 10 minutes. He gave my mother is phone number and name and stated that he would come back with someone who could do the other work and that the install of light was thank you for all of our patience. Needless to say Marcello, Omar, Leo or Matthew never called, never did the work we thought we were paying for. SO I paid $90 for ten minutes worth of work - so not worth it!!

 + 1 moreGiovanny did the job for us. He showed up on when he said, and was very careful about trying to make sure the paint he was using matched the existing colors. In some cases I had left over paint in a few other he had to take a sample from the wall and go to Home Depot to find the match. He was very professional and when he was unsure what direction to go he always came to me with options and his preference, but he always asked first. He did have to go back rematch the paint on the living room ceiling and its still slightly off. All in all very reliable and did a very good job.
Description of Work: Provider fixed minor water damage in drywall various places in house, replace front door trip that had come out from door frame, repaired porch screen.

 + -1 moreTwo handymen worked on the projects in my home but apparently only one of them knew what he was doing. The plumbing work went fine no problem. The electrical work went okay but the work was sloppy and he left some empty packaging and dirt behind. A new bathroom light was put in but he did not remove the protective plastic coating on the fixture, so I climbed the ladder and pulled it off. The same thing happened on the exterior light fixture on the front porch, the protective coating was not removed. Also a wooden brace from the previous much larger light fixture was not removed, even though it was no longer need to support the smaller new light fixture. He didn't remove it or asked me about it. The handymen were polite but I would not hire them again.
Description of Work: I purchased two 2-hour coupons for the Handyman Service Big Deal. Willis Builders replaced 2 bathroom faucets and a bathroom light fixture plus a porch light fixture.
