HomeWise Pros really went the extra mile to replace my father’s roof and left us very satisfied. Jay, the owner, provided a lot of background on options and why he would recommend doing particular things, very informed, professional, friendly, and comfortable to talk to. He also is honest—we were considering putting insulation in the walls but he recommended doing the roof only as that would deal with the bulk of the heat loss and be much more affordable. We had had a leak which we initially thought was something minor but when Jay and my son-in-law went up on the roof to look around, they found unexpectedly that the person who had “replaced” it before had done an inadequate job and put shingles over rotting wood—it was downright squishy to walk on! The whole thing had to be redone. Jay’s quote was very reasonable however. On the day of the repair, Jay’s crew arrived right on time, bright and early, and went to work. The house is a rancher with a long roof, which turned out to be in even worse condition than expected, but since Jay had said he thought they could get it done in one day, they stayed working until 8 p.m. at night, about an 11 hour day. The next day they had to put in only another hour or so. They did a great job redoing the roof as well as replacing the cap on the chimney and patching that up. They also retrieved my son-in-law’s favorite hammer that had been lost in the attic. Next step will be insulation for my house and my father’s, and we’re looking forward to working with Jay again!

Overall it went very well. They came in Friday morning after I had left for work; when they started work it was found that the shingles ordered were not quite the right color. Jay called me about the color and was able to suggest the right color shingle, but it was only in 25 year warrenty not 30 year warrenty type. I approved the change. Jay also told me after they had removed the old roofing material that about half pylwood boards needed replaceing, we talked it over and worked a deal to replace most of the roofing boards for a reasonable price. I left work early so I could come home and see how the work was coming along as it was going to rain the next day. I watched they lay some of the new boards, lay down the roofing paper and shingles. Though it was getting dark by the time they finished, they were able to complete the job that day. The next day it did rain and I checked the inside of my roof and it looked very dry. They came back over in the next couple of days to insure they had picked up all the trash and that everything was good.

I learned of this vendor via an Angie's List Big Deal. I was primarily interested in two things: -- Did I need a new roof (shingles are approximately 15 years old) and -- What would it cost to have the gutter pegs replaced with hangers and have the gutters repitched for improved drainage? While the inspection wasn't performed when I originally expected (week of October 10), the vendor completed the task in the following week. This wasn't inconvenient because all the work occurred outside, meaning that I didn't need to be present. They sealed exposed nail heads associated with a newly installed attic fan. While I didn't need a new roof immediately, the rep recommended another inspection next fall (indicating I should phone in advance). He couldn't successfully inspect the gutters because they'd filled with leaves. Two things impressed me: -- He said that rather than use Home Wise Pros for the gutter hangers (around $500), I should contract with a gutter cleaning firm and ask them to install (suggesting it would be less expensive). -- He sealed my neighbor's pipe collar (duplex roof) and suggested that I mention that the gutters were in bad shape (that soon water would begin to leak into the house). This was above and beyond what I would typically expect. My neighbor appreciated the feedback.

Went well. Very professional inspection, and report. They took care of the minor issues they discovered, and gace me a very competitive price to do additional larger repairs. I have scheduled them to come back and do those repairs as soon as they can get out here.

Through the years, I've had numerous bad experiences with contractors. As with many, I joined Angie's List in hope of finding reliable and respectful contractors, as I need them. At the same time, I'm not naive to think all companies listed are going to be trustworthy. But based on my first Angie's List experience, it's a good start. So, I planned to receive three quotes on getting a new roof. After meeting the first guy, my gut said he's the one. But it can be difficult to separate the truth from the b.s. when interviewing salespeople. So, I did the responsible thing and continued to schedule two more quotes. I quickly dropped one. The second guy was fine, but I was still more impressed by the first guy. So, I scheduled a second meeting with Jay Gleason, of The Home Wise Pros. I made the right choice. Jay is personable, reliable, professional, and most important, trustworthy and genuine. I also want to include as a gay person, I can tell the difference between the different levels of acceptance, as well as those who only tolerate my biological lifestyle. We felt very comfortable with Jay. He is open-minded with a good sense of humor. I know this sounds corny, but if you want quality of product and service, Jay Gleason is your guy. hout

I took advantage of the discounted roof inspection. Jay came, inspected the roof and found no damage or problems. He did suggest some trimming of some trees which could damage the roof during wind storms. He also inspected my chimney and found some chimney cap cracks. He offered to fix the cracks for a reasonable price. He came out on the 20th and fixed them. The fact that Jay uses a camera and can show you pictures of his inspection and before and after pictures of the work is a big plus. The fact that he is affable, gives reasonable quotes and does good work are all recommendations for him and his company.

What a GREAT company! Don't look any farther for another company! Jay Gleason and his Home Wise Pros team are true professionals. A roof replacement is a major investment and you must be confident and comfortable with the company that you choose. From my first meeting with Jay, the owner of the company, I felt that I was dealt with fairly and honestly; Jay is the type of businessman who was more interested in making sure that my particular repair needs were discussed and met rather than him making unnecessary sales pitches and trying to sell me things that I didn't need. How refreshing not being coaxed into purchasing something that isn't needed!! His honesty and integrity were immediately evident. It was Mr. Gleason's honesty, integrity, professionalism and ease in talking to the sold me! And, as a woman, I didn't feel that I was being taken advantage of, nor was I being talked down to. Before choosing The Home Wise Pros to replace my roof, I contacted four other roofing companies. The Home Wise Pros offered more for my money than the competition. Not only was the price better but I had a stronger sense of confidence and trust in Jay than in the other companies. Before the work began, Jay made several visits to my home to answer questions in person and to be sure that I was completely satisfied with the terms of the contract and the work scheduled to be performed. His business phone rang frequently during our conversation but he never once let that distract him from his attention to my job and the explanation or conversation that we were having. When Jay is talking to you, YOU are his #1 customer! Regarding the roof replacement itself: two days before the work began, a dumpster was delivered to my property as well as a load of plywood (115 sheets; I have a large L-shaped ranch/rambler home and chose to have all the plywood sheathing replaced due to a lot of existing damaged sheathing). On the agreed upon date and time, Jay and his crew arrived promptly and started to work. Bushes and shrubs were covered with drop clothes to protect them, tools were powered up, ladders set up and the crew was as in action. Due to my large roof, the crew consisted of nine men plus Jay himself. Each worker had an area of expertise, and almost in unison, each began their job. It was amazing how well this team worked together, and how quick but thorough they were. It was obvious that these men were experienced experts! Jay was on-site the entire time, mostly on the roof, taking photos of the working being performed. Via his iPad, he would periodically show me these photos so I could see exactly what was happening on the roof. He kept me so informed that I felt like I was actually on the roof observing the work first hand! Due to the size of my roof, this job would typically take several days to complete - Jay and his team completed the job in a little under 12 hours - starting about 6:30 AM and finishing about 5:30 PM. What an accomplishment for such a large roof (and despite a little unexpected drizzling rain to add to the excitement)! When the crew left, my yard looked as if no one had even been there. Not only was their workmanship SUPERB, their clean up was just as impressive. OUTSTANDING from start to finish! Jay, thank you for my beautiful new roof! Several of my neighbors called or stopped to by tell me how impressed they were with the appearance of the new roof and commented on the team work that they witnessed. You won't be disappointed if you choose Jay Gleason and The Home Wise Pros! I highly recommend this company. Their workmanship is of the highest quality. They did a great job. They were very attentive and detail-orientated. They were very thorough with their pricing. The job looked like it was going to go over, but they actually cut back on some of the cost. They showed up on time and got the job done on time. They were very professional. Tropical Storm Irene and the heavy rains of Tropical Storm Lee came and went, but our old house stayed snug and dry thanks to Jay Gleason and his crew of The Home Wise Pros. When Jay came he brought his digital camera and took pictures of places on the roof that needed replacement or repairs. Also , he poked a tiny camera probe into a hole in a porch post to see the water damage to the post. He then showed us the pictures on his iPad. For each of these problems and for most of the other problems listed above, Jay offered options and their tradeoffs. This approach enabled us to choose the most effective solutions at reasonable costs. Jay always returned our phone calls promptly. Most of the time he was onsite looking over the work. It was a pleasure to work with Jay and his crew. He even searched for and found a replacement glass for an obsolete skylight. We surely will call on Jay when our house needs repairs or improvements and will recommend his company to our friends and neighbors.

We initially took advantage of the discounted price for a roof inspection, which we knew we needed. We could see from the ground that there was a cracked beam on the roof and some issues with the siding in the same area. We also had an attic fan that was no longer functioning. Mr. Gleason was thorough with the examination of my roof. Upon completion, he sat with me and provided his assessment of the state of my roof, gutters, downspouts, etc. He was very detailed, yet in a way that I could understand, with his explanations and he answered all my questions. Some of the things that I thought I needed to have replaced, he recommended against, saying that they were still in good condition and that I shouldn't pay for something that I didn't need! I can honestly say that working with The Home Wise Pros was one of the most pleasant and professional experiences I have ever had with any contractor for any project. The owner came to my home quickly after I signed up for the Big Deal offered by Angies List. I was in the market for a contractor to inspect and repair my roof since I had recently noticed a leak in my attic that was staining the ceiling in my master bedroom. Photos were taken of possible trouble areas on my roof and I showed him where I was experiencing a leak. After thoroughly inspecting my roof and attic it was determined that all of my attic fans were inoperable, I had numerous holes where you could see daylight both up through the roof as well as through some of the siding on my house. Curiously, the water leak in my master bedroom was directly above a repair job a different roofing company performed due to a tree falling on my roof in 2003. I also have a problem with carpenter bees drilling holes in my wood trim on the eaves of my roof. Compounding this problem are woodpeckers attempting to dig out the bees. As you can imagine, I have long sections of wood trim on the eaves of my roof which are completely destroyed with many holes and gouges. I wanted to have these holes filled in and protected with strips of white aluminum. I asked the owner of The Home Wise Pros to provide me with an estimate and explain what work was to be done and when it would be completed. The owner (Jay) came back to my home on a Sunday and spent more than 1 hour with my wife and I explaining in great detail what work would be done, how it would be done, who would be doing it, how long it would take and of course how much it would cost. I have never received this much personal attention (and attention to detail) from any contractor for any job no matter the size. The Home Wise Pro's showed up at my house to work on the date written on the contract. Bear in mind that this was August 31, days before Hurricane Irene was due to hit the DC area. The Home Wise Pros did not cancel or re-schedule due to the impending storm. As work began and shingles were being taken off the roof, it was discovered that the section of roof that was leaking had no water+ice plastic barrier in between the shingles and the roof plywood. This section of roof was repaired in 2003 by a different contractor in 2003 when a large oak tree crashed onto my roof and broke over one of my eaves. The prior contractor never installed the plastic barrier in between the roofing plywood and shingles. Because of this, the repair job became much larger since the initial work order and estimate only covered a section of roof that was 4x4. The original 4x4 section that was to be replaced expanded to a 10x10 section. I asked The Home Wise Pros to check the other side of my roof (where the tree broke over the top) to see if the contractor from 2003 did not install a water+ice plastic barrier as they should have. The other side of my roof that was repaired/replaced in 2003 also did not have the proper water+ice plastic barrier under the shingles. I asked the Home Wise Pros to tear up the other side of my roof and fix it properly with new shingles and water+ice barrier. This was the smaller 5x2 section. Even with the additional work (more than doubling the area of roof needing repair), The Home Wise Pros were able to complete the work before the Hurricane arrived and at minimal additional cost. My roof is getting close to 20 years old, and I will most certainly use The Home Wise Pros when I need my roof replaced. I also intend to use them again short term to work on the remainder of my damaged wood trim. I would highly recommend The Home Wise Pros to anyone who wants a job done right, on time and on budget.

They seemed to be great. They did a bunch of work and they’re awesome. They gave me an estimate right on the spot for things that I needed to fix. They were awesome and the guys were great. I used the coupon from the big deal for this service. They didn’t do certain things and gave me an estimate for it. The work was totally fine as well. I don’t have a lot of experiences with how much roofers charge but it seemed very reasonable. They can actually work in the rain. I will use their services again in the future.

They did everything that we asked them to do. I liked their clarity, honesty, and sincerity. We dealt with Mr. Jay Gleason. He was a very honest young man. He delivered what he promised to deliver. They were very consciences. They paid attention to details. He was present when the work was done. There is nothing negative that I had to say about him. His price was reasonable and little less than what we were expecting. It was exactly what we wanted. He did a good job. He did everything we asked him to do. He spent time and walked around to see everything was taken care of before he collected the money. He made sure things were done how he wanted it. I would use them in the future.

Mr. Gleason was very courteous for the inspection, answering all of my questions and provided me several options for the work. With his iPad queued up he showed me several pictures of the damage to other roofs like mine (my house is 60 years old) and the work they had done to fix it. After the inspection we scheduled a time to do the work necessary to fix the existing damage and add components like a roof vent to assist with the attic fan I already have installed. We scheduled the work to begin this Friday, but he was able to get an opening sooner which was rather fortuitous considering the rainstorms we've had over the past few days. His crew showed up on time and got to work immediately. While they were working, my neighbor came over to ask if they could take a look at his roof which he'd had problems with in the past and not only did they finish my roof on time, they fixed a few issues on my neighbor's roof as well! A great experience that I'll definitely recommend to others.

Joy was great! He made some minor repairs fixed one very annoying leak and time to discuss the state of the roof. He was professional and friendly and obviously knows what he’s talking about.

We recently sold our house. We knew that in order to sell our house that we needed to repair the attic fan. We met with Jay Gleason and he gave us a very reasonable estimate on replacing a burned out motor on our fan. Because of his reasonable approach, we also hired The Home Wise Pros to complete the other items that the buyers needed repaired after inspection. Mr. Gleason reviewed our list and gave us a reasonable estimate to complete the repairs. All of the repairs were completed on time, and to our satisfaction and more importantly to the satisfaction of the buyers. Mr. Gleason was an excellent communicator regarding when we could expect him to complete all work and whenever decisions needed to be made, he involved us in all decision-making. He offered reasonable options and recommended the most economical and efficient choice. He is also a significant user of technology and was able to conduct much of our business through e-mail and the internet. Not all contractors have that capability and feel as comfortable in using this form of communication. I appreciated being able to communicate over e-mail and text as it is often difficult to track me down during the business day. Mr. Gleason also provided pictures of all work with before and after shots. Mr. Gleason treats his customers with respect and speaks in a clear and concise manner. In addition to the attic fan, he needed to complete plumbing work and minor electrical repairs. In the future, if we need to complete larger projects I would definitely use The Home Wise Pros. And I would recommend this company to anyone is looking for a reasonably priced and professional home improvement contractor.

My house had not had any major work done in over 20 years. Mr. Gleason has come to my home and done several jobs for me. I needed additional insulation blown into the attic. The roof was deteriorating needing complete replacement including all new plywood, the attic exhaust fans were no longer working and the gutters were leaking and puling away from the house. Each job Mr Gleason came to my home and brought samples of several different types of materials and explained the advantages and disadvantages of each as well as the cost differences. Once the contract(s) was/were signed and the work date(s) established Mr. Gleason kept me informed as to the status. He and his crew(s) arrived precisely when he said they would. They were very efficient, getting all the the tools and materials lined up so once they started they worked like a well oiled machine. I was quite pleased with the work he did with my attic insulation and clean up. They also did a fantastic job on the roof, installing new attic fans, ridge vents and replacing all collars, flashings. They did an excellent job in cleaning up yard, hauling away all the debris and trash, it looks beautiful. It was a pleasure working with Mr. Gleason and his crew and I would definitely hire him again and recommend him for any home repairs.
