+ -1 moreThis groupon promised a roof inspection and basic maintenance. As far as I know it was never performed. After I bought the groupon I called the merchant to schedule the visit and the guy told me they were going to do a bunch of visits in my neighborhood on the same day and that they had not decided what day yet. I called back a few weeks later after not hearing anything and the guys said he was pretty sure they had been on my roof and that I should have received a report in the mail. I told him I didn't receive one, he said he would send it, and I never got it. It is now 4 months later in the middle of Hurricane Sandy and my roof is leaking.
Description of Work: As far as I know, no services were ever performed.

Description of Work: Took numerous photos of our roof. They found a vent pipe that required replacement. He could not contact me; however, he went ahead and replaced it. He told me what he had done and even though it would normally cost $75 dollars he did not want or expect to be paid the additional cost. His briefing on the need for a new roof made sense and his approach/presentation was very professional. The estimate for a complete roof seemed in the ball park with my estimate from another source.

+ 0 moreBefore the scheduled inspection, I said to my spouse that we needed to expect a recommendation for significant work, because it was in the company's financial interest to do so. Jay, the owner of the company, arrived on time. He immediately impressed us as smart, honest and friendly. Nonetheless, while he was up in the attic our worry continued as to what we would be told when he descended. When he came down, showed us the pictures he had taken while in the attic, and then told us that we (1) have no mold or mildew; (2) have adequate insulation; and (3) even do not have a stink bug infestation, it was almost like having a surgeon tell us that the operation on a family member went just fine?after you had imagined the worst outcome possible. We had not bought the roof inspection offer, but before he left, Jay took a quick trip up to the roof because of the horror story we had told him about the roofer we had used about 15 years ago and reported that it too looked fine, with no charge for that service. We could not be happier with this company, and not just because Jay didn't find any problems. If ever we need roof or attic work to be done, we will certainly call on Jay, and we strongly recommend that you do the same.
Description of Work: We took advantage of this company's offer to inspect an attic for a $99 special Angie's List deal, with the inspection focusing on mold or mildew growth and the adequacy of the existing insulation. The reason we wanted to do this was that a roofer, years ago, did a poor job allowing water to leak into the attic, and we feared the worst about mold - not to mention how many thousands of stink bugs we thought might be up there.

+ -1 moreThe work was completed efficiently and pictures were provided of the areas that were worked on and in addition they performed some repair work which was not covered in the Angie's List special. This was done at no charge to me. Pictures were provided of the areas needing maintenance work. I was also provided with pictures and an evaluation of the work which would need to be done to repair the roof to stop the leak. They suggested some excellent alternative low cost methods for stopping the leak, at least for the near future until I was ready to have a complete repair done. All of the interactions were very professional, and I would certainly use this company again.
Description of Work: I had a roof inspection and general maintenance performed under a special through Angie's List. I also asked that the roof be evaluated for repair of a water leak in the house.

He was flexible and helped work out the best options for me to increase the insulation/efficiency of the house (attic). He offered options that would reduce the cost some, since that was an important consideration for me. He followed up afterwards, as promised, and, while I have to put the improvements off for a while, I will be in touch with them again.
Description of Work: He inspected the attic and then sat and explained his findings, suggestions and reasons behind them. He was clear and took his time and spoke in layman's terms. I would definitely contact him again for future work. Thanks!

What I appreciated the most was their honesty in the actual state of the roof; it does need to be redone, but not an emergency. When I met with Home Wise Pros after the inspection there wasn't a "push" to sell me a new roof immediately. Instead, we settled on a date in the Spring of '13 which allows me to save up for the cost.

+ -1 moreMr. Jay and his workers, at Home Wise Pros, provided exceptional service at inspecting and replacing the plumbing seals on my roof. Mr. Jay responded to my request for an estimated immediately and had workers at my home before the end of the day, as promised. The workers were courteous and professional. They arrived on time and began to inspect my roof and then provide the results of my inspection. Turns out the seals around my plumbing pipes had deteriorated and I needed new seals and a few shingles. The estimate provided was very reasonable, therefore, I allowed the worker to perform the work on my roof. After the work was completed, I recieved before and after photos of the work in my email. I was well pleased with the work on my roof and Mr. Jay's quality service. I have recommended Home Wise Pros to my friends and plan to use them again if and when I need other roofing work.
Description of Work: Home Wise Pros provided an roof inspection. After their inspection, they commented that the leak in my bedroom ceiling was due to a deteriorating plumbing seal. I hired them to replace the plumbing seal and a few of the shingles that were weather worn.

+ -1 moreAfter I purchased the Deal, I was contacted and scheduled the visit. Prior to the appointment, the weather interfered -with the July derecho in Maryland. Needless to say, a roof inspection necessarily had less priority than roof repairs due to fallen trees. Also the weather took out electric service to Home Wise Pros for several days. Eventually Jay was able to come and inspect the roof. He was very apologetic about the long delay. Then he proceeded to spend a lot of time on the roof. He inspected both the house roof and carport roof. In addition to going above the terms of the Deal, he spent 20-30 minutes explaining that the roof was okay for the near future, but would need replacing in the next year or two. I would certainly contact them for an estimate when I am able to have the roof replaced.

Description of Work: The company was very professional, and came to review the condition of our roof and make minor repairs as needed. Our roof was replaced in 2002, but a recent leak around a vent pipe was causing us concern. The rubber around the pipe was dry-rotted and needed to be replaced, which was not covered in the Angie's List Deal. We had the company replace all the gaskets, and have had no problems since.

Description of Work: Well first of all...... I was in need of a roofer...and soon....as I had been having water problems inside and outside my home for quite some time....and was unable to solve them.....and came to the conclusion that the only solution was to replace my roof and rectify some water drainage problems stemming from the roof.....My husband and I had tried to patchwork fix it ourselves with no success....I had interviewed 4 companies already......and received numerous estimates.....and I knew I had to make a decision soon....I was at my wits end.....still not impressed with any company I had interviewed...and then one Sunday afternoon....while working on the computer I received a call from Jay Gleason.....the owner of The Homewise Pros....he was returning my call ...I had found his business through the BBB.....a week earlier......and had forgotten I had done so.....and requested he return my call......and he did....I was not in the mood to talk to another roofing business.....especially on a Sunday afternoon.....but somehow we ended up talking....and I agreed to let him come to my home that day for one last estimate.....and I am very glad I did....He was very nice and very professional ...and prepared......things went well....and I was certain at that point....after him showing me slides of roofs on his computer that his co. had replaced...as well as the whole procedure from start to finish......and assuring me that he would do the same for my roofing job....so I would be assured the job would be done correctly and there would be no questions later as to what was done anywhere along the process....and that he would be on the job the entire time the job was done.....I was sold....I knew at that point ...I could relax .... because ...I had finally found an honest and reliable professional roofer...who would do an excellent job....because he believed in doing the job correctly.....and cutting no corners in the process......we proceeded to schedule an appt....I picked out my shingles from a few shingles I was interested in.....and we proceeded on the scheduled date....his company went out of their way to make things easier for me which I really appreciated ....especially since my older brother had died unexpectedly several days before.....and I needed no additional stress at that time.....they trimmed some trees for me ....and also used some shingles they removed from the old roof that were still good...and repaired my shed with them ..at no cost....they arrived ahead of schedule..did an excellent job on my roof.....did a great job of cleaning up afterwards....and gave me a good price for the job.....I am very pleased with my new roof...and have Jay Gleason and his co. The Homewise Pros...to thank for such an easy transition.....Would I recommend Jay Gleason and his company The Homewise Pros?.....Absolutely!....Will I use his services again in the future if necessary?......You Betcha.......I hope you make the right decision to hire him too....you will not be disappointed....you will also become a satisfied customer too!....Happy Roofing.....

They arrived when they said they would, did the roof inspection, taking pictures which he then showed to me so that I could see the condition of the roof. They performed the maintenance agreed upon in Angie's deal and also did one minor repair. The before and after photos along with his assessment of the roof's overall condition were very helpful. I would definitely call upon Jay again for future repairs or replacement of the roof.

More pictures were taken showing the replacements and repairs. He showed me the damaged originals and gave me a report on the current status of my 17 year old roof. They did no damage to my flower beds, and were prompt and courteous. I will use them in the future when the roof has to be replaced. They were a pleasure to work with.

I have been in contact with them since the estimate and they were to send me a contract in the mail. I contacted them again and they said that they had tried to contact me, but I was unresponsive. I still have no contract, so I called again and they explained the details of the contract which would include giving my credit card number saying that they will not charge it until the work is performed. I am still waiting to get that contract, no monies have been paid at this point and I am still interested in having the work done but need to have a contract sent to me and the Home Wise Pros to be more responsive. The most recent time I spoke with them, they said they had an appointment for the work to be completed on a set date for later in October, which was fine with me since I do not need to be home for the work to be completed, but I did not want to give them my credit card information without having the contract. I am beginning to feel as though they are putting me off since it is not a big job, but am still interested in having the work done if they would just send the contract.

+ -1 moreShortly after purchasing the coupon from Angie's List, I received a phone call from James Gleason, owner of The Home Wise Pros. James called to explain to me what the coupon included, what they would be doing and that they would be coming to my home the first week of October. The morning of October 1st I received a courtesy call from James notifying me that they would be at my home between 8:30 and 9:30 that morning. At approximately 8:35 my front door bell rang and it was James with one of his workers. He gave me one of his business cards, introduced himself and his worker and again explained what they would be doing. The worker went up on my roof and took pictures. After that, James came into my home and showed me the pictures of exactly what my roof looked like. He explained to me that the roof looked ok but because of the age it should be checked each year before winter. The pictures also showed cracks running down and around the pipe collars. After seeing that, I knew it would be just a matter of time before water would start seeping through the cracks and down to my ceilings. James was very professional. I feel he was very honest in explaining and answering all my questions and concerns. Next year when it is time for another roof inspection, I will call him to come back and inspect again. And when the time comes to replace the roof, James' company will be the only one I call. I highly recommend The Home Wise Pros to anyone who needs their expertise. I am confident you will feel the same way about him and his company as I do.

+ -1 moreWe contacted three companies for roofing estimates. Jay's was the lowest bid, but that is not why we went with him. The pictures he took helped us understand the problems we had. I also observed in the pictures areas where we had had repair work done by other companies and what a poor job had been done in some cases but we had no way of knowing that. We don't go up on the roof to see that a job has been done properly. I see the value of the photos that he takes before, during and after the job. He met with us twice before we signed the contract; we found that his descriptions of the process were very helpful. After the work had been scheduled, we decided to replace the old skylights in the roof of the porch. Velux did not have the skylights ready in time, something over which Jay had no say. He was very apologetic that the skylights were not available and that a second visit to do the porch roof and skylights would have to be scheduled. I was grateful that he went ahead with the original schedule for the house and garage installation. It was a beautiful day, so no weather worries. In the meantime, we were so happy with the work that was done that we added a new roof on our shed to the job. So he will do the porch roof and skylights and the shed roof in a few weeks. I will amend this review and total cost when the whole job is completed. Jay was present for most of the day; we opted to stay in the house in solidarity with our pets. When I had to leave the house, Jay stopped the workmen, and escorted me from the house, a safety measure. He showed us some of the rotted wood debris. The area around our chimney was a mess. The cleanup afterwards was very good, too. The house looks great; some neighbors have commented on it and requested Jay's business card. I wholeheartedly recommend him. Jay requires a very small down payment for the job and is paid for the rest when the job is done and the client is satisfied. We are very satisfied with the work thus far and offered to pay him for at least his outlay for materials. There is about a four week time lapse between the two parts of the job. He says wait until the whole job is done.
Description of Work: New roof on house and garage: 1) removed two layers of old shingles, 2) replaced rotted wood areas 3) installed 30# felt covering 4) installed snow melt protection 5) removed three attic fans, keeping two in good enough condition to donate to Habitat for Humanity--the third fan was no longer operational, 6) shingled the roof 7) installed new ridge vents on house and garage 8) fastened the fascia board along the back of the house which had come loose and was reducing the effectiveness of our gutters 9) replaced pipe vents and collars 10) replaced flashing 11)removed all debris.

+ -1 moreI was told to expect that the guys would be there very quickly and there would be no time for questions. Because the owner came, I was able to ask a bunch of questions, including expectations for a new roof installation. Issues to consider, when to do it, etc. Very helpful.
Description of Work: Total roof inspection for $145, including lots of photos, evaluation of weak spots and areas that are at risk. The toilet vent collars were old and the rubber shot and old tar cracked. These were identified as immediate problem spots. I had the two old ones replaced for an extra $150. The owner went over the photos and the parts of the roof that are likely trouble spots. I am getting a separate estimate for roof replacement, as the roof is approximately end of life, which I already knew.
