This was a good experience. They came when they said they would, did what they said they would, fixed what needed to be fixed, cleaned up, and called back later to make sure everything was OK.

Overall, this was a very pleasant experience. This company is eager to please and so, was very easy to work with. I would hire them agai,n without hesitation. Lillian
Description of Work: I am very pleased with the service i received from the Home Wise Pros. I live in Georgia and needed a double layer of roofing shingles removed, some roofing wood replaced, new roofing paper put down and shingles applied, on a house in Maryland. This was all accomplished smoothly, without stress, via phone and e-mail on a mutually agreed schedule. There were problems that did come up, but they were taken care of promptly and satisfactorily.. Initially, I received photos via e-mail of the roofing problems that needed correction, then photos of the work as it progressed from start to finish and showing the completed roof with the yard all clean of debris. The roof on this house has never looked so good. Thank you Home Wise Pros for a stress free roof replacement!.

Jay was a very nice and accommodating gentlemen, he was even able to put a "chimney cap" for me that I had provided. I think they did a good job of scheduling, however there was a few things in the description of the Big Deal I purchased that seemed to be a "gray area" when I spoke with Jay. On the description, it mentioned: "We will take digital photos of any of your vital exterior structures that are in need of work. The inspection will include maintenance of resealing around any unsealed pipe collars, exhaust fans/vents and chimney flashing!" When I spoke with Jay after the work was done, he stated that they usually don't send out the photos. The add led me to believe I would have the photos submitted along with a formalized report. I didn't get a formal report, just emails, and I did receive the photos after asking. In the grand scheme of things, this is small, but I like companies that pay attention to the details. Jay seemed like an honest fellow and did answer my questions.
Description of Work: Reviewed roof condition, and flashing. Resealing securing where needed.

I purchased the big deal through Angie's on 11/9/2011 and contacted Home Wise Pros via email around November 17th, 2011. I was contacted promptly to schedule the maintenance. I believe that was performed within the week, and everything checked out. We had some flashing on a bay window that had been damaged during hurricane Irene and that was also tacked back down and resealed as part of the deal. At the same time, we asked for a quote on a new roof for our shed, which had been leaking for some time. I think the workers that were at my house to do the maintenance took some photos and the quote was worked up at the main office. Jay Gleason was the only person I spoke to about the work, and he was always friendly and polite. My only complaint about the communication as I felt that I had to re familiarize Jay with our job every time I spoke to him, like he had many balls in the air at the same time. This was despite having emailed all the details about the size of the shed, our address, etc. this was not a major big deal, just a little annoying. Because of the holidays and constant rain, the work was finally scheduled in early February 2012. The contract was sent by email the night before for approval. Now this is the part I consider to be the most unprofessional of the whole experience: the contract was in the form of a cell phone photograph, not a scan, not a fax, not an electronic document. I had to print out a copy of this photograph to sign and leave for the workers the next day. All in all the work was terrific and Jay followed up by phone to see how we liked our roof. The roof looks great and does what it should. The guys working were efficient, quiet, cleaned up thoroughly and even trimmed some branches that were brushing up against the roof. Overall a fine experience, and we would hire this company again.

We purchased roof and maintence and sealing for our house. We just moved in and we grabbed this opportunity to get some repaired to make it last longer. I sent him an email on 9/19/2012 to get this request started. He responded the same day and asked where we lived and what nots. He said he will check the house within the next 10 days depending on the weather. He checked the house on 9/25/12. He did minor repairs that was under the package plan. There were no additional expenses. He mentioned that he repaired in 10 places on the roof mainly in the valleys, fixed exposed nails, He also addressed if there was something outside of the maintenace package, he would take a picture and send it to me for review and indicated possible price for repair. He has indicated that the roof is old and has met its expectancy. He suggests that we replace it. I sent him an email back to ask him how much would it roughly cost for a roof replacement. He indicated around 7k to 9k. This gentleman was very friendly and communicated with us via email because we are deaf. He didnt have any problems with us as we didnt have any problems with him. He was discreet and fixed the repairs as if he and his men were like mouses. I have not actually met the person myself but overall he was friendly on the email and left his business card on our door if we needed future services. It was done within the 10 day time frame and done the same day he came to look at the roof. His services was prompt and discreet.
Description of Work: Sealed 10 places on the roof. He fixed exposed nails. Repaired previous repair work from last time. Replaced a few shingles that were missing on the roof. Chaulked the roof on the garage that we had leakage from rain.

The process of scheduling out appointment for this work to be performed was simple and straightforward. The appointment had to be re-scheduled due to bad weather. The work on our roof was done promptly and professionally. We were also provided recommendations for future work in a few years.
Description of Work: Home Wise Pros did an outstanding job performing summer roof maintenance and sealing. Communications were outstanding theroughout the process and they even did some additional work at no extra charge. We highly recommend their work, and plan to use them in the future.

If you are looking for a reputable roofer, Home Wise Pros is the absolute best. Jay Gleason, the owner, came to our house and thoroughly examined our roof by walking all over it and taking many photos of the different areas that were problematic. Jay and his workers were there on the day they promised and he had completed the entire job in one day. His staff of 12 men have been with him for more than 5 years and they know what they are doing. No inexperience here when you hire Home Wise Pros. We've asked Jay to come back and re-insulate our crawl space in the basement and attic. He's very professional and one of the best.

Folks please be carful when leaving reviews. Make sure and double check that the company that your leaving the review for is the company that came to your house We have contacted Angies list because this was not our customer. This customer didn't purchase a Big Deal from us and we have no record of them. As soon as I read (he became unfriendly) I knew it was a member getting us confused with someone else.

Jay was overloaded with appointments and let me know that it will take some time for them to visit. I did not have to remind them, and they called back to re-fix. Unfortunately, the weather did not permit a visit that day. They called me again to re-fix. The estimate was already communicated to me. They called me from my roof to confirm the work and then accepted payment over the air. They completed the job and then sent me before-after pictures, which included pictures of the damaged collars replaced. Very good experience and will recommend to others.
Description of Work: They inspected the roof for damage and suggested to replace the pipe collars at two locations. They changed two pipe collars.

I purchased an attic inspection promotional coupon from Angie's list. The person from the company did not respond to my initial email and only after two emails or phone calls did I get a response from the company. The person from the company showed up on time and was behaving quite professionally. However, he probably took no more than 15 minutes in my attic and just gave me some superficial diagnosis. My attic did not have enough insulation, which I know. But the representative could not go beyond that level, nor was he intending to comprehensively assess my attic. Most of the time, I feel that he was trying to push me to buy attic insulation service from them, hence I really came out of it with a bad taste. In a nutshell, the person from the company performed a superficial assessment of my attic in a very brief time period, and did not provide me with more useful suggestions than to buy an insulation service from them, which will take up my entire attic space. Maybe this has to do with the promotional nature of this service, but I just came out of it feeling not being able to trust the representative or the company.
Description of Work: One representative from the company visited my home. He inspected our attic and provided assessment and suggestions on the front of energy efficiency.

Response from The Home Wise Pros Roofing
This customer paid $45 for an attic insulation inspection. She seamed more concerned with storing things in the attic then insulation. When we told her that she should store some of her things somewhere other than her attic she seamed very agitated. We told her she had the origin insulation in the attic and could use some more insulation to bring it up to code. She once again replied ( if I do that where will I put all of my stuff) We did everything we were supposed to do for the $45 she paid. Well everything but find some place for all of her stuff :)

I heard good review about this company but I was not impressed. The first time I called I was told they would call me back because they had so many positive responses that they were going to call people based on their location. I had to take the initiative in calling them the second time.
Description of Work: I had to call back at least twice. They finally stopped by and the estimate was done on a scratch sheet of paper. It was extremely high for what I wanted done/

Company was extremely friendly over the phone during scheduling and came out when they said they would. They were extremely professional and knowledgeable completing the work, telling me every little thing I needed to know about my roof condition and more! They were very honest, as they could have tried to get additional work by exaggerating the condition, but told me that I should be OK with the condition for another few years. They spent extra time sealing every potential problem area. I really liked this company's friendliness, professionalism and quality, and will definitely use them again.

This is the 2nd time I use Angie List's Big Deal and it is getting worse. In general, my feeling is that Home Wise Pro is using Big Deals as a marketing tool to hook potential customers in order to find if there are big additional works from them and if not while the original job is too small (or the price is too low) they will just ignore it. We do not care if they are responding to me by phone or email anymore. In general, I am very leery of purchasing Angie List's Big Deals unless it changes this system for the better. Also, the rating system can be improved to serve its members and customers better.
Description of Work: We have a small leak in our roof. After purchased the Home Wise Pro service from the Angie List's Big Deal advertiment, we explained to the company that during the rains, it leaks through one of the nails on our roof. It is dripping every 5 seconds. We currently have a buckket in our attic under the spot where the leak to stop more damage to our celing. However, we can tell that the roof where the nail is changes color and waters probably causes rotten plywood. Home Wise Pro asked and we provided that our house is about 8 years old and there seems to be no other big roofing repair need except for that. How Wise Pro said that they might have someone working around our area in one weekend and that they would call to stop by and work on it. We waited and the call never came. Actually they have not called me back since. It seems that the job is too small and they are NOT interested. I HAVE NOT GOT MY MONEY REFUNDED FROM ANGIE LIST YET.

This customer contacted us to tell us he purchased a $149.00 roof maintenance package from Angies List. He then proceeded to tell us his roof was damaged in at least one place and maybe more and wanted to know when we could come out to repair his roof. We kindly explained to him that he purchased a roof maintenance package not a (repair my roof package). We also informed him that we don't do roof repairs. We told him to contact Angies List for a full refund and contact a roofer that does repair work. We at no time ever told him we would come by and look at his roof. This is an example of someone trying to take advantage of the system. He purchased a maintenance package knowing full well what he needed wasn't minor maintenance but major repairs.

Purchased Summer Tune-up on Aug 3 - contacted company providing our home address and phone number so we could arrange a time. Received email next day (8/4) stating they would be contacting us to set up an appointment....didn't hear from them again until I CALLED back in September...came out took pictures and went over findings. Bottom line was our roof need to be replaced. Jay came back out to provide an estimate - which was a joke! Everyone else that provided an estimate priovided a detailed estimate and left booklets for us to go over and read. Jay provided a SCREEN PRINT of a PARAGRAPH that included the price. Their price was in the middle - even if it was the lowest we WOULD never have hired them.....A SCREEN PRINT you've got to be kidding! REALLY?

We sat down with this customer and went over hundreds of photos detailing the work we would be doing on his home. We then typed up an estimate on the computer and emailed it to him. The manufacure gives us plenty of brochures for free for us to give out to our customer. This customer never asked for brochures and I assumed after seeing the huge stack on the counter he had enough. ( I'm not sure what anybody is going to do with that many brochures.) I fear in the not so distant future they will end up filling up some landfill somewhere. He seamed very interested in how inexpensive a roof he could get. Brochure collecting and cheaply done roofs are not something our company is known for or something we have the desire to be known for. I hope he found someone to satisfy those needs. Remember folks in most cases a roof replacement done right will be the last one you ever need.

ome Wise Pros was referred by a friend. When the initial call was made to inquire about getting a new roof, Jay was very courteous and professional. He worked with our busy schedule to arrange a time convenient to us to come to our home to perform a site inspection of our roof and skylights to be replaced. He advised us that he would be using a satellite image of our home that would accurately measure the deminsion and pitch of the roof. He explained the whole process that would take place and answered any questions that we had. Home Wise Pros made a second visit to our home to provide the estimate and show us the image used to make the estimate. It was very detailed. We were advised that photos of the before, during and after stages of the job would be taken and shared with us. Jay again answered our questions and we arranged an installation date and paid a deposit. One of the service that was included was the installation of two vent pipe collars that were cracked and leaking. These were replaced to keep rain out prior to their ultimate replacement. We were thankful for this because this was completed prior to hurricane Sandy and the resulting 5 inches of rain we received. Home Wise Pro was able to work us in before the scheduled date. The material were shipped prior to installation. The Home Wise Pros crew showed up on time and were able to complete 90% of the job in one day. Jay called prior to the end of the day to let us know that due to the surface of our roof that they would not be able to fully complete the job in one day. We were also advised that the two skylights had been replaced and even though the same manufacturer of the previous skylights were used, they did not fit the best. Jay drove over 50 miles to pick up a different brand of skylight that cost more and did not charge for the difference in the price or picking up the skylights. The skylight was a better fit and Jay advised he just felt better about the fit and doing it right, The Home Wise Pros crew returned the next day, completed the job. The crew did an excellent job of cleaning up all roofing materials and did a full sweep of the yard. There was one place where a roofing shingle had blown off the roof and placed a tear in a screen. Home Wise Pros adjusted the final bill to address having the screen replaced. At time of settlement, Home Wise Pros walked us through over 400 pictures that they had taken of before, during and after installation. It was reassuring to be able to see all the steps and care that was taken to do the job properly. The amount of work the crew did was amazing! The company performs other services besides roofing and we will definitely use them again in the future.
Description of Work: Home Wise Pros performed an estimate for the roof and worked with us to select the right shingle color. They came on site and removed all the existing roofing, replaced two existing skylights and re-shingled the roof. In addition, they updated the flashing next to the chimney and repaired several cracks in the top crown of the chimney. They removed all leaf guards on the gutters, clean the gutters and replaced the leaf guards. The installed ridge vents in the crest of the roofs. On one roof, they placed a visible cable wire that ran the length of the roof under the ridge vent to hide the cable. Upon completion of the installation, they thoroughly cleaned up any roof debris and removed all old roofing material from the property,

My roofing project could have gone all wrong, but thanks to Jay Gleason, owner and manager of The Home Wise Pros, it has a very, very happy ending! I got three estimates before speaking to Jay. Company #1 and Company #2 sent handsome sales representatives with charm and long sales pitches. Understand, I am a single woman with a lovely 1951 home filled with paintings and sculptures in a desirable neighborhood, so a sitting duck for high roofing estimates. They came in at $36,000 and $19,500! The measurements included a lot of excess square footage, and roof pitch readings that seemed incorrect. Company #3 made a realistic pitch to put up a roof with a solid offer. I was just about to sign with #3, but then spoke to Jay Gleason from The Home Wise Pros. Am I ever glad I did! Jay Gleason arrived at a convenient time for me on Saturday, and I thought to myself, ?Oh well, here?s another handsome guy that?s come with a big sales pitch and a high price. With his iPad in hand, Jay explained that as the owner, it?s his personal business to ensure his customers are happy throughout the process, had no complaints, and showed me on Angie?s List one customer review after another, just as they popped on the webpage. The reviews were stellar! I saw many detailed photos of the roofing process and had a lot of questions. Jay patiently answered each of them, never overselling me. I also saw his satellite software with the exact measurements of the roof and two different pitches, and Jay?s footage measurement matched what I had researched online. When I asked about more expensive Premium Designer or Luxury shingles, he told me he could install them, but recommended that my house, with different roof pitches and antique brick, would show much better without intricate shingle patterns. (It was designed by a protege' of Frank Lyoyd Wright, so it's a horizontal prairie style with lots of roof to look at and a interesting foot print.) Jay recommended CertainTeed Landmark Designer shingles would compliment the prairie style and respect the ambiance of the neighborhood. Up on the roof Jay went, taking lots of photos, and inspecting everything. I saw photos where there were large holes around the seals surrounding the venting boxes, my upper chimney structure that needed the cement top repaired and sealed, and the chimney cap had been blown off, probably during the recent summer wind storm. He also that found two vertical wood supports on the dormer were rotting, but the other parts were perfectly fine, so he recommended that only the vertical supports be replaced. None of the prior roofing companies had even mentioned these problems to me. I asked Jay to add the additional repairs to the estimate. And then I braced myself to hear his offer. I could hardly believe it! The price was $1200 less than the best offer I had received, and it included the repairs. How could your price be so much lower? Jay doesn?t pay commission to a sales rep commission since he personally meets with every owner. I signed the contract with a very modest down payment, and the agreement to give me all the copper flashing. Jay understood I wanted a great color for my roof, and recommended two. I selected CertainTeed Landmark Designer Pewter shingles. The Home Wise Pros had a very busy schedule, and Jay Gleason personally oversees each roofing process, so we set a date for the roof installation 6 weeks later. At his insistence, he sent two roofers out a few days later to temporarily seal the holes while I waited for the roof installation. Three weeks before the installation date, I called Jay to postpone the date due to my job since I wanted to be home during the installation. Jay was more than accommodating, so we scheduled for a new date six weeks later. And wouldn?t you know it, but three weeks before the 2nd scheduled date, I had to call Jay to say I would be abroad on a work assignment. Jay understood and we set a 3rd date six weeks later. Due to the power lines that run from the utility pole to a mast on my roof top, during our first meeting, I had voiced adamantly that I would not allow any roofer climb up to start the job without disconnecting the 60-year-old power lines. Jay was in complete agreement and thanked me repeatedly for my concern about his crew?s safety. I agreed to pay the PEPCO costs. Safety always comes first. I went personally to PEPCO with two checks ($406 to disconnect on one day and then $406 on another day ? quite expensive, but the old energized lines with crackled insulation were right in the roofers' way and very dangerous!) and confirmed the date, Monday before the Tuesday installation. PEPCO didn?t show! I alerted Jay to the problem, and he took it all in stride. Rain was forecasted for Tuesday, so we set at a 4th roofing date for Wednesday. PEPCO wouldn?t come on Tuesday, but promised for late morning on Wednesday. Too late! Again I spoke to Jay, and he had already come up a contingency plan to even schedule a 5th roofing day the next week. After four phone calls to PEPCO on Tuesday, I managed to convince them the power had to be disconnected before dawn on Wednesday, and told Jay I would call him as soon as the power was turned off at 6:30am. At 6:18am, Jay Gleason woke me up with a phone call. He was outside my house waiting for PEPCO to come! He wanted to personally see the power had been disconnected before dispatching his crew. I was impressed! PEPCO crew arrived promptly at 6:30am, the power was disconnected, and they cut the lines down completely. The roofing crew of eight arrived promptly at 7:15am and worked continuously. I wore airline headphones to muffle the noise and watched everything from the windows falling from the roof. At 2:15pm, I could no longer resist seeing their progress. After a quick phone call to Jay so he could alert the crew for my safety, I walked out to the front lawn and turned to see the new shingles. It took my breath away! Oh, what a beautiful color, and every shingle placed perfectly! Thirty minutes later, three neighbors called me to join them on my front lawn to admire the roof in progress with them! The workers continued through sunset and into the early evening, even finishing the chimney repairs with miners? lights attached to their foreheads to put the last touches on the chimney and finish the clean-up perfectly. Neighbors I don?t even know have stopped by to compliment my roof! It has pewter accent grains on the warm dove-grey color, and has a subtle, sweet shimmer in the sun! Jay came to my home a few days later to show me 350 or more photos of every step of the roofing process. In a couple of minor places I had questions about, we promptly looked at them and he explained they were created to redirect the rain to prevent future wood damage. There had been a significant roof area with rotting wood that required the installation of new unusually long and expensive wood planks to match those used 60 years ago. Jay did not charge me for the additional costs. I paid the exact price he had quoted me on the original contract. I am no novice to hiring contractors to perform work at my home. Over the last five years, I have arranged for many major projects, and they have gone well. This roofing job is the only time had to reschedule again and again, and there was a worrisome utility delay. I had unfortunately become a truly difficult customer, and my job was a litmus test for any contractor. And Jay Gleason and The Home Wise Pros came through with shining colors, and always pleasantly adaptable. He treated me as if I were a top priority! Every step of the way, Jay Gleason could not have been more honest and accommodating! He exceeded all my expectations! I sleep easy at night under a beautiful roof installed by master tradesmen, and when I look at my home, I am delighted. Talk about VIP service! It was a great process with terrific results! And imagine this ? it was the lowest bid! I cannot recommend Jay Gleason and The Home Wise Pros more highly!

The crew of eight arrived, as promised, shortly after 7:00 am to arrange equipment and protective tarps. Shortly after sunrise, they began to remove the old roofing and had the roof down to bear plywood before noon. They replaced damaged plywood (ten sheets) with new plywood and proceeded to prepare the roof for and install shingles. They finished the work at around 5:00 pm and left the yard, deck and sidewalk in cleaner condition than they had found it when they first arrived.
Description of Work: Two layers of shingles, roofing paper and bad plywood removed. New plywood, flashing, water and ice barriers, roofing paper and shingles installed.

They did an outstanding job from beginning to end. During the initial walkthrough with Jay, I asked him about making several other changes to the attic, and much to my surprise, and appreciation, he explained to me why they wouldn't be a good idea. He also did not oversell the amount of insulation I needed. I was very pleased with his honest approach, and that coupled with the outstanding job they did in installing the insulation, has led me to recommend him to others. Jay explained the entire process to me both during the walkthrough and just before starting the work. He then showed me the completed product before they left. The actual work was completed in just several hours and Jay was here the entire time overseeing the work crew. The job was well done.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal for an attic inspection, and based on the recommendation from Jay Gleason, the owner of the company, I had him install new blown in insulation.

Mr Gleason and his crew arrived early on the date specified and worked until dark. They came early the next day, finished their work and cleaned up all debris from around the house. The only evidence that they had been here was the new roof. A few days later, Mr Gleason came to the house and showed us photos of every aspedt of the job. He made an excellent presentation and also patiently answered all my questions about his roofing career, how he trained his crew, etc.
Description of Work: The roof was completely replaced including new plywood where needed, flashing around chimneys, and other details not specifically stated in the contract. We were only charged extra for the plywood as agreed upon in the contract. All of the old roof pieces and rotten plywood were taken to the dump.

The roofing crew arrived at the promised time and immediately started the job. The entire job was well-documented with photographs so that we could see exactly the condition of our roof and the work that they did. During the course of the job, the crew discovered several other areas that needed special attention which they took the time to address. When the job was finished, the crew cleaned up the work area as well as the area around the house and left us in a condition that was actually better than when they arrived. We were more than happy with the service and the work that this company provided. Owner Jay Gleason was thoroughly professional and advised us well (including letting us know what did NOT need to be done, saving us money in the process). We would not hesitate to recommend Home Wise Pros to anyone who needed roofing work done and would definitely call them again should we need anything done in the future.
Description of Work: When the roof started leaking into our sunroom a couple of months ago we went to Angie's List to find a roofer to come and repair the damage. We received estimates from three different companies. Home Wise Pros was in line with one other estimate and less expensive than the third. Based on their reputation from Angie's List and a personal recommendation from a friend, we went with this company. All three roofing companies agreed on one fact: we needed the entire roof replaced! We had suspected this for some time so it came as no real surprise to us. Home Wise Pros removed all of the old roofing, installed ice and water protection on the eaves and valleys, installed new pipe collars, installed a shingled ridge vent, installed new drip edge and diverters for water flow, replaced three skylights as well as the damaged wood around them, and replaced the shingles with upgraded architectural shingles with a 50 year warranty..
