We had some concerns about the roof on our new house based on what the home inspector had told us. So we called Jay Gleason, who put a beautiful new roof on our last house. He came by while we were at work, looked at the roof and told us we were actually fine for now. He said he did notice some loose nails and flashing, and so he had his guys fix them on the spot. Then he told us there was no charge, that he appreciated our past business. What a pleasant surprise!

Because we had just moved to this area from Florida and were unfamiliar with the area, we relied entirely on Angie's List recommendations, which put Jay Gleason at The Home Wise Pros at the top of the list. After interviewing other companies, it was easy to see why. From start to finish, Jay and his team were exceptional! His initial presentation was high tech, informative and his communication skills were excellent. He was quite clear in what we were to expect, and there were no surprises. Our new home was built in 1954 and over time was added on to with numerous poor quality additions, creating major problems with leaks from the shoddy roof patches and gutter placements. It was a complicated job, but in 2 days, his crew, working from 7 am till dark, completely transformed the roof into a modern look, beautifully and meticulously executed. Since Jay's crew takes photos of the entire process, we were able to see the trouble spots and how they remedied them, also where the plywood had rotted and how they were replaced. Jay consistently goes over and above what we would expect with service, quality of materials and standards. For instance, he insists on hand-hammered 3" nails on the ridge vents, rather than shorter ones using nail-guns, which in our case was over 900 each!! I can't imagine using any other company, as we were so pleased with every aspect of Jay Gleason and The Home Wise Pros.

We've selected this contractor from four bids (3 bidders from Angies list and one recommended by a neighbor); this was the lowest bid and at the same time the owner (Jay) appeared very competent. The work was scheduled about 2 months after the contract signing and actually performed on the scheduled week. Materials were delivered the day before; the roofing crew arrived at 7am, covered the plants around the house, and completed the job, including cleanup, by sunset on the same day. Everybody was professional and responsive from start to finish. A minor cosmetic problem (overspray on the wall while painting the new flashing) was fixed the next day after I've mentioned it to Jay. We had one big skylight to replace; Jay did not mind me purchasing the skylight direct from the manufacturer (cheaper than he quoted) and charged only for installation labor (other materials were included in the contract price). The roof holds up well so far; the plants around house suffered as a result of spending a hot day under the tarp and bombarded with debris, but that's entirely expected. It was necessary to trim branches overhanging the roof to get access, and the team took care to cut it in the least noticeable way. Every step of the work was photographed, so there were no questions whether certain things were necessary (damaged plywood, gutters, etc.) Overall, an excellent experience.

Inspection was easy to schedule and the communication was great. They took photos of the issues and explained the repair. They were able to make the repair quickly and provide photos of the completed repair.

Jay Gleason, The Home Wise Pros, is the most customer focused and ethical contractor with whom we have ever worked. He is sincere in his efforts to deliver a quality product and follows through on commitments he has made to the customer. His ?high tech ? high touch? approach to our project ensured a new roof was installed to specifications and in a timely manner. Jay used software programs to ensure the right quantity of materials was ordered, thus eliminating excess materials that would have resulted in a higher cost. He communicated with us extensively by email, text messages, phone contact, and personal meetings. At the initial meeting with us he provided a slide show of pictures to describe the actual work that would be done on our house. At our second meeting with him, he answered all remaining questions we had and reviewed the contract in detail. When we decided to work with The Home Wise Pros, Jay provided a target week for the roof installation. When the week arrived, there was rain every day and the work was delayed. Jay communicated with us on a daily basis until there was a day when the weather was ideal for a roof installation. On the day of the installation, Jay was the first person to arrive, and was onsite for the entire day. In our initial discussions, Jay indicated he followed Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) policies, and that was evident. We were impressed with the safety guidelines he established for crew, including safety harnesses to be worn at all times and water breaks on a day where the temperatures exceeded 95 degrees. He also ensured we were able to leave our house safely by ensuring all work stopped until we had exited. All the roofing materials are of high quality as specified in the contract and consistent with both industry standards and Maryland code requirements. Shingle color selection proved challenging, yet Jay exhibited patience and good humor by providing numerous examples and educated recommendations. After the roof installation was complete, the crew thoroughly cleaned our property. Stray nails were removed using a large magnet and derbis were completely removed. Prior to providing The Home Wise Pros final payment, Jay came to our home and reviewed several hundred photographs of the work that was done on our roof. There were no surprises and the estimated cost did not vary from the final invoice. Based on our experience, we strongly recommend Jay and The Home Wise Pros to anyone considering a roof replacement.

Our experience with Home Wise Pros was simply exceptional, from start to finish. I?d gotten several estimates ? all but one higher than Home Wise ? and then called Mr. Jay Gleason, the owner of Home Wise, based on his terrific Angie?s List write-ups, as well as the glowing recommendation of a neighbor, who recently had the same job done. From my first meeting with Mr. Gleason, I knew I?d made my choice of roofing companies. He was thorough, courteous, professional and very clear. He answered all my questions, as well as several I hadn?t thought to ask but he knew were important. He advised against several options I mentioned, all of which would have pushed the total cost higher, to his benefit, but which he believed to be unnecessary added costs, with little benefit to the homeowner. We scheduled the job, and his people delivered and pre-positioned the materials a day in advance of starting, and then showed up as promised, before 8 AM. The crew worked meticulously, with Mr. Gleason stopping by periodically to review progress with his crew foreman and answer any questions I had. He also checked in by phone with the foreman and with me, to make sure the job was progressing to his and my satisfaction. Like Mr. Gleason, the crew were polite, cooperative, and professional. They stopped work for very brief intervals several times at my request, to allow me or my family to come and go safely. Other than that, they seemed to work without break until the job was done that evening, just after 7PM. They were fastidious about their final cleanup, including a careful magnet sweep of the lawn, and when they left I could find no trace of the job, other than a beautiful new roof. The next day Mr. Gleason came by again, did his own check on the thoroughness of the cleanup ? finding only two small scraps of shingle debris ? and then sat with me to show me the crew?s very comprehensive photo documentation of their work. With over 300 photos available, he picked out the key aspects of the entire process, showing me where extra wood was needed, how the various components were applied and sealed, and also where I might need to have additional contractors come in for non-roofing repairs his people had noted as potential problems. If I?d had any doubts about the quality and meticulousness of their work ? and I didn?t ? his discussion and presentation would have banished them. All in all, it was a home run. We had a top quality job, by a first-rate crew, at a very reasonable price. From Mr. Gleason, through the foreman and on down to the newest member of the crew, everyone involved was exactly what a homeowner hopes for in the people who perform these sorts of major repairs: courteous, capable and professional. Home Wise Pros have earned my strongest possible recommendation. Well done!!

This was a very easy process, from scheduling appointment and communications throughout the work processs.

To me, they weren't very thorough. I was supposed to receive a mold inspection and heat loss evaluation in addition to the attic inspection. I didn't receive the mold inspection or heat loss evaluation.

I purchased a special deal on Angie's List, but when I called The Home Wise Pros to schedule the appointment, it turns out the roof certification I needed done was more extensive than what was covered by the maintenance package. I spoke with the owner, Jay, who was very nice. He told me to contact Angie's List for a refund. He even referred me to other places that do roof certifications. Also, the refund was not difficult to obtain.

From bidding the job to completion, our experience with The Home Wise Pros exceeded expectation. Jay Gleeson is very professional and personable. His advice was most helpful in our choices of options. He explained the process in detail including safety measures for entering /exiting the property while the job was in progress. Photos taken before during and after the job were very helpful in explaining all that was done. Also, we very much appreciated Jay's team of seven men who were professional, careful, courteous, prompt and, judging from the results, very competent. We can only hope that our future experience with other providers approaches this. Therefore, we can confidently recommend The Home Wise Pros to Angie's List subscribers, friends, neighbors and relatives.

I had read the reviews about the Home Wise Pro company before calling Jay. We had another company give us an estimate as well. Jay was on time and met with us a little over an hour. He explained everything his company would do as well as gave us snap shots of what would be done to the roof. He beat the other company by $3000 and when he left we were confident we made the right decision. He completed the roof in one day. He showed us pictures of everything that was done to the roof and answered all of our questions. He was professional from the first phone call right till the very end. We are confident that everything that we paid for was done to our roof because Jay spent the time to show us the pictures of what the workers did. I would highly recommend his company and have already given his name to someone.

We had a great experience with the Home Wise Pros for our recent roof replacement. Jay takes the time to meet with you and explain all your options, but is also flexible and responsive to email as well which was good for us as we have very busy schedules. He is honest and does not try to upsell you with things you don't really need. At the time time, his quote was accurate and comprehensive, while also highly price competitive. The project was completed within the estimated time frame, the work was done in one day, and the workers were thorough in cleaning debris from our yard. This was particularly important to us because we have a dog and the neighbor kids sometimes run around in our yard. In fact, Jay was very thoughtful about our pet and took care to explain how the job would impact our pet--the noise, the safety issues for entering and exiting the house during the job, etc. We'll also receive pictures that show all the work that was done, including the wood replacement and different phases of the job. This is a great feature because as I compared numerous roof quotes, I really worried about how I would actually know that a contractor did everything that was specified in the contract. It's a big job to entrust to someone, and we feel good knowing that we picked a company that takes the time to verify their work for their customers. Overall, our roof looks great, we would highly recommend the Home Wise Pros to others, and we are very satisfied!

Home Wise Pros replaced my roof in 2012. I was so pleased with the not only the work, but the professionalism of Jay Gleason and his team that I recommended them to my parents. Once again, Jay did not disappoint. My father asked a lot of questions and wanted to be kept informed about everything throughout the entire project. Jay made it a priority to be courteous, patient and detailed in explaining everything during each step of the process. This made my parents feel comfortable with their decision to hire him. They are extremely pleased with their new roof.

In June 2013 we interviewed 3 firms from Angie's List to have our roof redone. The house was built in 1982 & we believe this was the original roof. We had added an addition to the house in 2006 and had some leaking around the chimney into this new addition. All 3 of the contractors said that the counter-flashing installed by the firm who did the addition (Champion) was done wrong, so we were concerned that we might have damage under the shingles to the wood underneath. The shingles were starting to crack and there was some damage to the peak of the roof on one side where a pine branch had been rubbing against the roof. We talked to Jay Gleason, the owner of Home Wise Pros, and he explained that they took pictures of the work as they went to document any bad wood, other issues, etc. He also recommended installing the ridge vents. We had had a solar attic fan in a previous house & were considering that. However, he said that the solar fan might not always be able to run when needed and that we would probably need about 6 of them for the size of our roof. Several of our neighbors have the ridge vents and we decided to go with that decision. We were scheduled for the first week in August (rainy summer and the firm was a little backed up with scheduling, we also wanted to wait until the roses next to the house finished blooming and the nesting birds near the house had left.) August also started off rainy and the work could not be done on the Wed. & Fri originally scheduled. Jay offered to have his crew come & work on Sunday when the weather turned better, but we declined because it didn't work out well for us. We scheduled for Monday & a crew of 8 arrived around 7 am. Jay told us to arrange to be away from the house during the process because of the noise. My husband stayed at the house til about 9 am & then went to work. He didn't think the noise was too bad but he was only there while the old shingles were being removed. The crew finished earlier than anticipated (6:30 pm vs. the 8:00 the said it might be. Only one piece of bad wood had to be replaced. The clean-up was fine. He was also able to obtain shingles from a local mfr. (Tamko) which we thought was a greener option.

I had 4 companies come out to provide estimates. Home Wise Pros came in second by about $200. As many reviewers have indicated, Jay's presentation makes the difference. He knows the business and leverages available technology to make the estimate process easy for himself and the customer. Jay directly answers your questions. He is professional and easy to reach. The crew arrived a few minutes early, ready to start work on time. They worked until dark and returned the next morning to clean up. I have to add that the guys cleaned up during a thunderstorm that was severe enough to make the lights flicker. The cleanup was very thorough. Jay and his crew were great. I felt comfortable dealing with them. I felt other companies were leaving something out of their proposal or were subbing cheaper materials. He returned to review the project. We quickly went through about 200 pictures of the work performed and showed me the trouble spots where they replaced wood. His crew is experienced and they know what they're doing. I would definitely recommend Home Wise Pros.

The Home Wise Pros were excellent from the detailed pre-job briefing of the work, scheduling of the work to take place when we out on vacation, post-work debrief, photos of the work and the overall quality of the work. Best yet they were the lowest cost bidder of the four contractors we selected for the work.

Home Wise pros was one of the roofing companies from which I solicited a bid. I was impressed with their Angie's list rating, so I contacted them. The owner Jay came out, inspected and measured the roof. Later, we set up an appointment, and he came out to my house to speak with us. He was extremely thorough, explaining everything about the process, and offered a great price for high quality products and work. He was very communicative throughout the process, and efficient in setting everything up. Once our installation date arrived, I left for work and came back home to a beautiful new roof. The men were very professional and skilled. They cleaned everything up, and now my home looks beautiful. The attic is a lot cooler with the ridge vent. When Jay came back, he showed us pictures of the entire process, and we're very pleased. If you decide to use Home Wise Pros, I think you'll be happy with them as well.

From the initial meeting to the completion of the roof Mr. Gleason and his work crew were professional, punctual and pleasant to work with. The presentation of what was to be done was enlightening. (Many photos of previously completed jobs). Supplies were delivered to the house the day before the scheduled job was to begin. The morning designated the work crew were here on time and very curteous. They removed the old roofing, applied all new ply wood, and a lovely new shingle (Heather Blend). They painted the pipes and applied new flashing around chimney. They also cleaned ouot the gutters. When finished they cleaned the yard and removed all debris. I would use this company again for other projects needed around my home.

I decided to go with The Home Wise Pros, rather than three other companies who came out and gave me estimates, NOT because they were the cheapest. The estimate I got from Home Wise was in the middle of the group. However, from the start, I was impressed with Jay Gleason's professionalism and his use of technology. Not only do his crews create tons of photo evidence of the work they're doing during a job, but Home Wise uses satellite images to capture accurate measurements of the roof. In addition, Jay was incredibly personable. When the work actually started, the guys arrived early and started promptly. They worked hard in unbelievably hot weather. Yes, they covered the bushes and shrubs, but there was still some browning (Jay had warned me that there would be) and a very little bit of clean up that I had to take care of. However, it was not much at all, and I'm probably just more neurotic than most people. Finally, what I experienced more than anything was a company that wanted to ensure my satisfaction. On more than one issue, I would pose a question to Jay, and his answer would be "I don't remember if we talked about that, but if you want us to do it, we will. We want you to be happy with the job." There were no hidden costs or extra fees. The quoted price was the price we paid, and we got a great new roof that not only protects our house but makes it look better as well.
