All materials such as nails and old roofing were removed. No nails or refuse was found. No flat tires and no jammed lawn mower. Within three weeks we experienced a hurricane. No leaks.

I had my roof replaced in late 2011. In spite of windy, rainy summers and snowy winters, my roof looks like new. Even after a little over two years since the roof install, Jay Gleason, owner of Home Wise Pros, called me to be sure of my complete satisfaction with the work done by his company, the materials used to replace my roof and to offer a periodic inspection of the roof . His genuine concern and personal touch reinforces my initial impression of Mr. Gleason. He is a businessman who is honest, competent, efficient, genuine and a joy to work with. If you are in need of a new roof or roof repair, I highly recommend Jay Gleason and his Home Wise Pros.

n late fall, we noticed that the walls in a corner of our dining room had water streaks. Thus begin our search for someone to either fix the roof or replace the roof. It had been approximately 18 years since the last roof was installed. I joined Angie's List specifically to find a good roofing company. After reading reviews, I contacted two contractors, and then selected Home Wise Pros as our contractor. From the start, I was impressed by Jay Gleason's friendly approach and especially when he met with us to go over what he was offering to do forour roof replacement. He showed us an aerial view of our current roof and explained in detail what his company would do. When I signed the contract, I only had to put down a $500.00 deposit and we agreed for the new roof to be installed the week of January 27th. Jay left me a voicemail on Jan. 23 to let me know that the weather didn't look good for the beginning of the week of January 27th. He followed up with another phone call on the 28th to inform me that Friday, Jan. 31st looked good according to the weather forecast; so barring any last minute change in weather, we agreed on that date. He also informed me to expect the shingles to be delivered on Thursday, Jan. 30th, and that they would be placed on my roof. Jay and his men arrived promptly on Friday morning and started working on the roof around 7:15 a.m. When we were ready to leave the house around 8:15 a.m., as agreed prior, I phoned Jay on his cell phone and he ushered us out safely from our home. By early afternoon, I got a call from Jay telling me that they had to replace 22 sheets of plywood. Since I was spending the day with a relative who lives nearby, Jay suggested I come by and check out the state of the sheets that needed replacement. When I saw them, it reinforced the necessity that our roof seriously needed to be replaced, and not just repaired where the water damage was visible. Since the installation of the new roof was nearly completed by that time, I was pleased to observe how nicely the new roof looked in broad daylight. I took the opportunity that I was there to pay Jay t the balance that I owed him. I explained to him that I wouldn't be able to meet with him in another hour or so when the job was done since I was going to pick up someone in DC to drop him off at BWI airport during rush hour. I didn't want Jay to have to wait for me to get back. When I drove away from my house, Jay was on top of the roof inspecting and examining the work done by his men. I liked that he was hands on and that he was involved from start to finish. By the time I returned home, it was too dark to see much. As soon as I woke up Saturday morning, I went outside to check out the new roof. It looked good! Furthermore, I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that there were no tell-tale residue/debris surrounding my house from the installation of the new roof. The property was left intact. Later in the day, Jay called to inform me that one of his workers will come by Monday and run the magnetic wheel around the property to ensure that no nails were left behind. This has indeed been a positive experience for me and I highly recommend Jay Gleason for your roofing needs.

There really are no words to adequately describe this company's impeccable work ethic and professional/personal integrity and superior work/service. Jay Gleason is one in a million when it comes to exemplary customer service and superior quality workmanship. The roof completion is truly a masterpiece and the result of tremendous care and superior labor from start to finish. This project/company is particularly worth publicizing/promoting from an exemplary customer service and superb workmanship perspective given this homeowner had previously received a quote from a neighborhood solicitor doing roof repairs who quoted her a price for 6K above The Home Wise Pros price/estimate. Everything (not just the estimate) about The Home Wise Pros approach to roof repair/replacement was outstanding - even more so when compared to this unethical neighborhood solicitor from a company that I will respectfully not mention in this review. Jay and his company take numerous aerial images of the roof prior to the project to fully assess the scope of the project, secure precise parameters for purchase of materials and make sure the end results are precision perfect and far exceed the customers expectations. I am so grateful that an initial unfortunate experience with a ruthless neighborhood solicitor resulted in my search on Angie's List to find Jay and his company! I would/will highly recommend him to all of my friends and family. Without exception he and his company are a treasure in today's industry - truly the BEST, better than all the rest! Thank you Jay for your tireless efforts on our behalf and an exemplary job that is perfect in everyday.

I knew for some time that I needed a new roof. We've lived in the house for 21 years and never did a thing. I contacted three installers. The first estimate came in at $19,000, the second at $12,500 and Home Wise was $9,450. All companies recommended shingles that were highly rated by Consumer Reports. Ultimately we settled on Home Wise and CertainTeed Moire Black shingles. When we weren't sure exactly which color shingle we wanted Jay, the owner, came by and left samples of candidates so we could actually put them on the roof to see how they'd look. We ordered the new roof in early November but the weather kept the crew from working until January 16-17. In order to safely work the roof needs to be dry and temperatures above 40 degrees. Every week Jay, the owner, called to give us a weather update and look at the likelihood of installing the following week. When the crew removed the existing two layers of shingles it turned out that our roof was a disaster. On the upper level of our split-level house the plywood was in terrible condition. It was splitting, sagging and there was extensive water damage. After examining everything in detail none of the 30 sheets of plywood were worth keeping. On the lower level of the house we had to replace 20 sheets. It gets worse. After removing the upper plywood it turns out that the builder had one area where he spaced joists 48" apart and not the 24" required by code. Jay got the materials and added the necessary support structure in addition to replacing all the plywood. The extra materials pushed the cost from $9,450 to $11,650. I was amazed when Jay found a way to discount the cost of 50 sheets of plywood and didn't charge extra for the labor to install them. In addition to installing a beautiful roof, Home Wise replaced all the collars around piping and repainted all of the pipes and venting on the roof to match the shingle color. They replaced and upgraded all of the flashing and installed ridge vents in our 1972 home. I can't say enough about Jay. He spent lots of time with us throughout the process explaining exactly what they were doing and was on site most of the time to supervise the crew. During the day if something came up he called both my wife and me to make sure we were in agreement on decisions we needed to make. Even though his office was more than 30 miles away he was at our house whenever necessary to ensure we were satisfied. He only required a small down posit and, when they were finished, he refused to take a check from my wife. He wanted to make sure I was home and satisfied before he'd let us pay him. He took about 200 pictures of everything during the installation process, including all of the bad plywood and went over them with us in detail so we'd understand what we were paying for. He was extremely safety focused. Once work had started for the day he wouldn't let us leave the house unless we called him to say we were leaving and he'd called his crew to tell them to stop working until we were out so nothing feel on us. This was one of the best, lowest pressure, most professional major home purchases I've ever made.

We were very please with Home Wise pros. We looked at a lot of estimates and theirs was the second lowest (but the lowest came from a company that we could tell was not professional and would not hire). We met with the owner who explained the process in detail so we knew what to expect in advance. They showed up when the promised and had the work done as promised (it took 2 days since we have a large roof). I was especially impressed with the clean up. They left the yard in tip-top shape.

It was alright. The man who came out did not give me a written report and I would have liked one but he was thorough. That was my only complaint. I liked that he went through everything and his review was pretty thorough. He went through every part of the roof but he did not write it, so I had to call him back when I was trying to remember some of it because he just called me. I asked him if they do reports and he said, "No. That would be an additional fee." If he just did a written report it would have been fine but everything about the inspection was good.

Response from The Home Wise Pros Roofing
Looking at our notes this was a great customer. We did this roof maintenance package about a year ago for $149. We have hundreds of people buy this Angies List Big Deal and feel a one on one phone call with the homeowner to explain whats going on with the roof in detail is better than a brief written report that usual leaves the customer with many questions. We did leave written reports at the home owners doorsteps for about 6 months before the overwhelming feedback we received led us to the determination that we needed to take a little more time and call each customer personally.

This was a free roof inspection to see if they needed a new roof. After inspecting the roof we told them it was fine and wouldn't need to be replaced for several more years. I'm not sure what more he wanted us to do for free ? Every now and then you just have to laugh and ask yourself, what are some people thinking.

We really felt comfortable with the sales rep that came over for our roof replacement estimate. He showed us a portfolio of several roofs they replaced in our area, explained in great detail the work to be done, materials to be used etc. He was very clear and upfront about cost, and what we were paying for -- for instance, quality materials cost a little more but are likely to last longer, etc. He was very professional, pleasant, and stopped by the house on the day of the work, which was done in one day. After the roof was completed, he showed us pictures of the work in progress...like rotten wood being replaced with new wood which was very cool! We loved his detailed presentation before and after. It made it much more personal. He obviously takes pride in his work and it shows. The roof looks great and matches the new garage roof beautifully. No more leaks yayyy! He did an excellent job from start to finish and all debris was cleaned up and taken away. I have already recommended them to several friends that have had the same results I did. Keep up the good work!

Home Wise Pros were extremely punctual and professional. They were onsite for an estimate the same day we requested an appointment. They came with tons of materials, examples, and pictures of other jobs. They also printed out and provided a large amount of their Angie's List reviews. We were extremely pleased with their presentation. The reason we did not go with them: Another company quoted the job at approximately 30% less for the same manufactures material (exactly). The other company was also a certified installer for the manufacture.

Price: When I first called The Home Wise Pros, it was the owner, Jay Gleason, who answered my call. In order to get an idea of whether the high-pressure estimate we had received from ?Roofer #2? was reasonable, I asked Jay for a ballpark guess-timate, given the type of house and the amount of materials we'd been told we needed. I truly appreciated that he was willing to give me a ballpark figure, and the answer confirmed to me that one reason why some roofing companies use high-pressure tactics is because they don't want you to discover that they're very overpriced. The estimate we received from The Home Wise Pros was a little more than half of the high-pressured ?deal? offered to us by ?Roofer #2?. (By the way, Jay's guess-timate was close to the real estimate he gave us later. ? i.e. he hadn't given us a low-ball figure in order to get his foot in the door.) Jay does the estimates himself, rather than employing salesmen ? savings that can be passed on to the customer. He doesn't need to use high pressure sales tactics because his prices are reasonable, and, frankly, with the quality of service and work done, he doesn't need to canvas neighborhoods offering free estimates to drum up work. Satisfied customers who submit reviews to Angie's List, and who recommend The Home Wise Pros to local family and friends, are much better salesmen! I should know ? ya'll sold us, and we've already recommended The Home Wise Pros to several other families needing to replace roofs in the next few years. Jay didn't try to sell us what we didn't need (i.e. to increase his profit margin). For example, one of the things that looked good about ?Roofer #2? was the extended warranties included on both the materials and the labor. When I asked Jay about this, his reply made good sense ? that, if you use a good product (materials), and if it is installed properly (labor), the roof will endure, and there's no need for those extended warranties. And from my own online research, and from talking with Jay, I believe there are several good (and comparable) products/ brands of roofing materials/ systems out there. I think he recommends Certainteed currently because it's a good value (i.e. good quality at a reasonable price). Others roofers may not have the flexibility of choosing which product(s) to use or avoid (according to their experience in roofing), because their manufacturer ?certification? requires that they use a certain amount/ combination of that manufacturer's products in order to be able to offer the extended manufacturer warranty for the roof ?system?. Again, from my research, it seems that most major manufacturers offer this type of certification. But just because a roofer is certified, it doesn't mean he won't mess up the installation, and the fact that a roofer is not ?certified? doesn't mean that he can't install a roof just as well, or better than a ?certified? roofer. There are costs for a roofer to become ?certified?, and guess who ultimately pays those costs? By ?not? being manufacturer certified, Jay can pass the cost savings on to his customers. I can't say I feel very confident about warranties that extend decades into the future anyway. First, for the manufacturer warranty (actual roof products) or the labor warranty (roofing company installation), who knows whether either or both will still be in business 50 years from now (e.g. CompUSA, Border Books, etc.)? Second, who knows whether either or both will find a way to wiggle out of honoring the warranty when asked to do so far in the future (e.g. could the homeowner inadvertently void the warranty by ?neglect?, or would a natural disaster like a hurricane end the warranty)? Third, there are already loopholes built into some extended warranties ? for instance, if you sell your home more than 20 years after your roof installation, the fine print on one 50-year warranty noted that it would then become only a 2-year warranty for the new owner (i.e. not much of a selling point or inheritance, eh?). It seems to me, that a warranty is of most benefit to guard against buying a product with a manufacturing defect (i.e. a ?lemon?), and the standard warranty that comes with the roofing shingles, etc. would cover that possibility. I'd also guess that an installation problem would also be/ become apparent almost immediately. Products: Again, because he is not manufacturer certified, Jay can pick and choose which products he believes to be of the best quality and value. For instance, the ridge vent system offered by ?Roofer #2? didn't impress my husband and I ? it looked like a long piece of plastic brillo pad, and we couldn't imagine it working/ holding up well over the lifespan of the roof. However, ?Roofer #2? was locked into using it because it 's made by the same manufacturer from whom he receives his manufacturer certification, and it's therefore a required component for their extended roof system warranty. Jay prefers a ridge vent system made by a different manufacturer, which looked like a better product to us as well. Also, Jay secures the ridge vent using the longer 3? nails, which have to be hand nailed because they don't fit into a nail gun (which would be faster and easier). "Roofer #2? had convinced me that extra ice & water shield on all the rakes (i.e. in addition to the usual eaves, valleys, around roof penetrations, along warm walls, etc.) would be a good idea. Jay thought it wasn't necessary (i.e. you don't have standing water/ ice dams along non-warm wall slopes, and he said that the drip edge (along with the starter shingles) on the outer rakes would prevent blowing rain from infiltrating those slope edges), but for my peace of mind (and at not that much additional cost), he agreed to include them. In some of my online research, I ran across a PVC variation of pipe boot collar that is supposed to have a much better life expectancy than the rubber versions typically used. I hadn't said anything about it to Jay (and he didn't specify what type of vent collars he would be using), but when I looked at our new roof, I recognized that's what he had used. When I asked him about it, his response was typical for Jay ? they're a good value, they don't cost that much more, but you'll get 2 or 3 times the life span with them compared to the less expensive collars. By using less expensive collars, he could have gotten a few more dollars for himself, and we would never have known the difference. Service: Wow, what can I say here? The difference between our meetings for estimates by ?Roofer #1? or ?Roofer #2?, and our meeting for an estimate by Jay were SO different! Roofers #1 and #2 wanted an immediate contract in order to give their ?best? price, and each was willing and determined to take several hours (at one sitting) to convince us to sign a contract with them. But Jay was there only as long as you wanted him to be there (if he didn't have another appointment), and his estimate was good for several weeks (i.e. for the length of time that the supply prices weren't likely to change much). I asked a lot of questions (including a couple Jay admitted he'd never been asked before), and Jay didn't become impatient or defensive. When we signed a contract, we weren't quite sure as to which color shingle we wanted, but Jay gave us time and nearby addresses of roofs he had done in those colors that we could look at as we deliberated between 2 color choices. That was probably the hardest part of our experience ? trying to decide on roof color from a tiny piece of the manufacturer's shingle, or from a not-that-accurate manufacturer's color palette, or even comparing our home to homes of different styles (e.g. Cape Cod vs. Colonial), different exterior house wall colors (current, as well as potentially different in the future), different orientation (east/ west/ north/ south), and different times of day (i.e. in sun vs. shade). But we're happy with our choice. Plenty of other reviewers have mentioned how he makes sure the work is stopped when residents are coming or going to ensure their safety, but he also is equally concerned for the safety of his crew. Because the power line to our Cape Cod house cuts across a large corner of the roof, Jay asked us to contact the power company to ask that they ?lower the loop?, so that there would be no potential electrocutions on roofing day. He gave us good advice on getting timely cooperation from the power company to address that issue, as well as to address another electric-related issue that would impact the durability of our new roof. A couple of days after our new roof was installed, we did find a small ?oops? ? the new shingles were hanging down a little too far over our shed doors (which had been locked on roofing day), so that we had to lift the shingles up in order to close the doors. Someone was out within a week to trim the shingles a bit ? problem solved. Jay was always very responsive to phone or e-mail. Since the power was off in the house on roofing day, I decided to use the day to shop and run errands. My husband was home, but I didn't make it home in time to see all the photos that were taken that day (oh well, it would have been fascinating to have ?seen? more of the process and all that was accomplished in just one day on ?our? house), but Jay had a couple dozen photos e-mailed to me. When I told him that they weren't displaying properly in the e-mail, he sent them in a different way that did display correctly. Conclusion: I could add more (positives) to this review ? such as using satellite imaging for the estimate, chalk lines for accuracy, the hundreds of photos taken, no subcontracting, polite crew, etc., but other reviewers have already done a good job of commenting on many of these other areas. I only wish Jay had clones who owned businesses that did doors, windows, and other of our needed future home projects!
Description of Work: Roof replacement on Levitt-built Cape Cod house with attached garage (and detached shed) - removal of old attic fan and shingles (2 layers), replacement of damaged (or non-existent) decking, ice & water shield (eaves, around vents, all rakes), drip edge, 30 lb. felt, ridge vent added, starter shingles (eaves and rakes), architectural shingles (240 lb.), pipe collars replaced, vent pipes painted, removal of all debris Introduction: About seven years ago, a remodeling company (“Roofer #1”) was canvassing the neighborhood offering free estimates. My husband and I didn't feel we needed a new roof at that point, but were interested in learning more about what we should be looking for and the approximate cost to start budgeting toward. The salesman for that company was extremely high-pressured. What we learned then was that we would avoid contacting that particular company when it “was” time to replace our roof. Now seven years later, we knew we needed a new roof soon because it had begun to lose one or two shingles with each strong wind storm. So, as I began to research online about what we should be looking for, another (different) remodeling group (“Roofer #2”) happened to be canvassing the neighborhood with free estimates, and we experienced almost the exact same high-pressure sales pitch from that company. I was beginning to wonder if all roofing companies were alike in this manner. When I told my sister, who is an Angie's List member, about that most recent roofing estimate experience, she suggested that we look for a good roofer on Angie's List. So we joined Angie's List, and The Home Wise Pros were rated about as high as was possible! And for good reason … price, products, and service!

My husband passed away 2 years ago and since he took care of all the outside work, I was clueless about roof repairs and chimney flashing. I joined Angie's List hoping I could get some help and, lo and behold, I met Jay Gleason:) After reading what people wrote about him and then, meeting him myself, I knew I wasn't going to get bamboozled with my roof replacement. People, go no further in looking for someone to do your roof. Don't fall for the low cost roof replacements out there when you have someone like Jay who takes pictures to show you everything they do. Since we, you and I, are not roof experts and are probably not going to climb the roof to watch what goes on, Jay takes pictures to show you. He even took a pic of the actual roofing shingles they used! Jay also called me when he was coming, called again to say he would be 15 minutes late due to traffic, left a voice message to explain what the roofers did that day and gave me accurate timelines. Awesome, responsive/reliable service, outstanding professionalism, great price and attention to detail combined with a sincerely nice person is what you get with Jay Gleason. Just meet with him and talk about your roof and you will see what I mean. You won't be disappointed.

Things went very well throughout the process. Jay is a real professional and as a result there were no problems. The installation team was prompt, professional and efficient. Jay coordinated with me before and during the work to ensure there were no difficulties and no surprises. The work looks great. Significantly, digital photos were taken throughout the process so we could see for ourselves the work done. Jay followed up at the end to ensure our complete satisfaction before accepting final payment. Home Wise was not the lowest estimate that we received, but was the best choice. We have a a large roof with dormers and other architectural features and we needed it done right at a reasonable price by a company we could trust.
Description of Work: First, Jay met with us to go over all of the options and to make some recommendations. It was a no pressure situation which was greatly appreciated. Jay went over the qualifications of his company and workers. After we contracted with them, Jay followed up regularly until the work began. He and his team replaced our old worn out shingles, replaced some damaged wood, replaced old skylights and installed a beautiful new roof.

It is very refreshing to work with a group that takes sincere pride in their work product. My father passed in June and I discovered that we were in desperate need of a new roof on his house. At a very difficult time, nobody should have to deal with unnecessary and additional complications and challenges. I can report with great certainty that the Homewise Pros were top quality. From the initial meeting, working through options, communication about progress and inevitable "surprises", to the price and cost, Homewise Pros was great. I have not one complaint and would recommend them to anyone with confidence. Jay Gleason met with me twice to discuss the scope of work and afterwards to show me a photo log of the work as it was done. This gave me great comfort and confidence that the job was done with pride and that "surprises" were backed up with documentary evidence showing the need. A job well done on all fronts. I'll be recommending Homewise to a family member that has the same roofing need.

This is an easy review to write. Several of our neighbors used The Home Wise Pros for their roof replacements, and we received very strong referrals from them. All of the neighbors I spoke to gave high praise to Home Wise and James (Jay) Gleason, whom we worked with. Thus, my expectations were very high. Simply put, Jay and Home Wise met my very high expectations. They did a terrific job, and I would refer them to anyone without any reservations whatsoever. Jay is incredibly easy to work with and he represents the pinnacle of professionalism. He's very knowledgeable and gives you the straight story on everything. He doesn't hide any details. He gives you full information. As a very thorough person myself, I appreciated how incredibly detailed and thorough Jay was on every aspect of the process. I also appreciated how he came to our home two times before we decided to go with Home Wise and one other time once we were ready to sign the contract. He was always right on time (and often early) and spent ample time going over details with us. I also greatly appreciate how he handled a quote from a competitor. I showed him the estimate and he sized them up very clearly and said that he could get us to the slightly lower price from the competitor but that he would have to sacrifice the quality of product that Home Wise employs. As to the actual work Home Wise did, it looks terrific. Of course, a Home Wise signature is to take lots of pictures of the entire roofing process so Jay can walk through exactly what they did, including replacing any rotted wood. That's something most companies would wince at doing, but it goes to show how thorough and dedicated Home Wise is to making sure the homeowner knows the quality of the product they are providing. They also do a great job cleaning up the mess around the house from all the debris that flies off the roof. Simply put, I give Home Wise my strongest recommendation, without any reservations whatsoever. I can't imagine any other company providing a better product or demonstrating greater professionalism. These guys are the best in the business.

If you think honest, hard working craftsmen are a thing of the past, then you haven?t dealth with Jay Gleason and The Home Wise Pros Roofing Company. These are people who take pride in their work. Jay has a standard of excellence that is to be admired. He is detail oriented, and took time to explain exactly how his company approaches roof replacement, using both words and photos. By the time he was finished, we felt well educated in what to expect. And he did not let us down. I would recommend his company to everyone. Briefly: ? Bid was in line with other companies. Not the lowest nor the highest. ? Estimate does not include replacement wood, (which Jay explains upfront) so be prepared for a few hundred dollars in addition to the estimate. ? Jay is accessible/available and answers every question thoroughly. He visits the site often and stays in touch with his crew. ? Crew arrived 10 minutes early, worked as a team the entire day, and were polite, professional. ? Photos are taken throughout the process so you can see where damaged wood was. ? The next day we noticed 2 minor issues and Jay came over, reviewed the work, and had a foreman remedy the issues immediately. ? Jay doesn't disappear. He told us to call him months, even years after the work if we had questions/problems.

My next door neighbor was using The Home Wise Pros to replace their roof so I did what most people do, I went outside to cast a critical eye. After watching the activities of Jay?s crew for a little I walked around my house inspecting my roof and much to my displeasure I notice I had a couple different areas on the roof that were missing some shingles. After my somewhat frustrating realization that I could no longer put off replacing my roof I walk over and introduced myself to Jay and asked him if he would give me a quote. Although I had interrupted his day, he spend almost two hours with me asking questions and explaining how he runs his company and does his work. When our meeting ended he said he needed two days and he would have a detailed plan and price quote for me. In addition to needing a new roof, I had two skylights that leaked and many of the rake boards were damaged by carpenter bees and water. I asked Jay for a quote to replace those items as well. While I was waiting for Jay?s quote for my house I spoke with five of my neighbors that used Jay to replace their roofs. All five gave exceptional referrals of Jay and the professionalism of his team. Although I had five very positive referrals what cemented my decision was the process Jay uses to ensure that the work is done well and to the contract. I work with teams that design, build and test sensitive electronic equipment, so I can be a little on the picky side when it comes to how things are done if you want a good results. This process started at the contract. It was very detailed and explained everything that was to be done. Jay had told me the materials would be delivered a few days before the work was to start and they were. Due to large trees near my house the crane delivering the materials could not lift the materials to my roof without damaging the trees, so the materials were left on the side of my driveway. This was perfectly OK with me, but because it was different from way I had been told, Jay called me that evening to let me know why this change was needed and different than how he told me it was going to be done. Jay also took a pictures of the delivered materials and reviewed the pictures with me comparing it to the contract. Thus ensuring I knew that I did get what I paid for in the contract. Jay told me his team would be at my house early, and as promised they arrived shortly after 7:00 AM a big team arrived and start to organize the work site. I teased Jay that it looked a little like ants on a dead insect, people were busy everywhere. They protected my garage door and front door with sheets of plywood so that falling materials would not do any damage. Tarps were put over my plants to protect them from falling material. If I needed to leave or enter the house the work halted until me and my family were completely in/out to make sure we were perfectly safe from any falling material. After the old roof was removed Jay?s crew marked, numbered and photographed each area of damage. These damaged area were repaired and photos of the removed damaged materials were taken on the ground. As the existing roof covered up potential damage the pricing for the replacement materials was listed in the contract. As I have spent more than my fair share of money at Home Depot and Lowes I knew that I was being quoted competitive prices for those materials. While installing the roof, Jay?s crew marked chalk lines across the roof so that the new shingles would be perfectly straight. Many photos were taken of the work in progress and the slightest anomaly was photograph so that it could be discussed. After the new roof was installed, photos were taken of the entire roof so that I could see all the work that was done. These after photos also allowed me to see that his team did do all of the small details he said he would do. Some of the small things include all of the pipes in my roof had were painted and had new collars installed, existing flashing that was still in good shape was painted to match the newly installed flashing. I came home from work a little early the day of the job just to make sure that all things were going well, and they were. When I got home Jay was there taking the final pictures and putting together his final report. He walked me through the entire job from initial contract to the final nail picked up out of my yard. Everything did he said he would do he did and a few extra things too. Members of Jay?s crew that I spoke with were polite and they even smiled when I spoke with them. It was very clear they like the work they do and who they work for. It has been my experience when people like what they do, they tend to do their jobs well. I now can, like my neighbors, recommend Jay very highly. He is honest, straight forward in his work and in the short time I spent with him seems like a genially nice person. His attention to detail and his constant communication with me on the work put me at ease that the job was done right. It may be possible to find other good roofing companies, but you will not find better roofing companies than The Home Wise Pros.

The owner Jay met with me about three times for for about 60 minutes each time through the process from estimating, reviewing estimate and selecting options, to presenting final bill. Never pushy, very educational, flexible, clear, friendly, and professional. Was highest of three quotes (ranging 7500-10000) but his great reviews on Angie's list, great roof side manner, and deep deep transparent documentation and explanation of every single job (hundreds of photos of every job before, raw materials compared to order, during, damage found if any, repair, under layers going on, nailing methods, etc.,from jobs each prior day during the week I met with him) convinced me that he was top flight. I also loved that he uses huge crew (12 men) to get the job done in a single day (typically). Everything went as expected, arrived at 7 to start (materials had been delivered two days earlier and were already on the roof), finished by 6PM, job done perfectly, and no damage was discovered (so no extra costs at all). One month later no leaks anywhere. And how about this: not a single nail found on driveway or yard so far!!

Jay and his crew are great to work with! I highly recommend Home Wise Pros. We got about 5-6 estimates with prices all over the board. You really have make sure you are comparing "apples to apples", none of the quotes we received were for exactly the same materials/work. Jay took all the time needed to thoroughly explain everything and offer suggestions. Their pricing was very fair for the work that they did. The work was done about 4-5 weeks later and completed in 1 day. Everything was well protected and cleaned up like they were never there. I also liked that they were very safety conscious and would stop work when we had to leave or enter the house so nothing could fall on us or our daughter going to & from the bus stop. Another great tool they use it pictures. They take plenty of before and after pictures so you can see what was actually done. Our house looks so much better. Don't hesitate to give Jay a call for an estimate.
Description of Work: Removed & replaced roofing shingles, paper, added drip edge, ice & water protection, upgraded ridge vent, replaced pipe collars and painted all pipes to match the roof. Also replaced rotten wood & flashing where necessary.
