I purchased an Angie's List special deal for a $60 cooling tune-up. Because One Hour Air Conditioning & Heating holds Sat hours for emergency service, I had to make an appt during the week on a Friday. I made my appointment almost 3 weeks in advance and my husband took the day off of work because they did not have appointments after 5pm. On the day of the appointment, they cancelled at the last minute without a proper explanation. That's terrible customer service - I won't use them, won't recommend them.

The technician was really nice. He was puncutal and professional. He explained their services and had a lot of papers. He was supposed to get back to me concerning filters from my service and he could not provide me information I was promised. I felt I had to follow up with him on what happened in our appointment. I was expecting more.

Almost from the get go, the provider was pressuring us. The answer to the inconvenience of getting replacement filters for our aging air conditioner unit was to buy a new one. When discussing replacing the refrigerant in the system, we were lectured about how much cheaper the re-fills are with newer systems, that we should really have installed. There were repeated implied criticisms that if we just bought their annual maintenance plan or service club or whatever that we wouldn't have all of these problems. When we initially gave into the pressure to at least get an estimate on a replacement, the sales person who performs the estimates was on vacation. During the hottest month of the year. We have since received a number of unwanted follow up calls. The service person who came out was also very rude and condescending to my wife, because he apparently thought he was funny and that unwelcome humor somehow makes up for a very bad first impression. Despite the low cost of the Big Deal that introduced us to this provider, we are going back to the company we have used several times before that has always shown a much higher degree of professionalism.

The technician was extremely detailed in his inspection which was very important to us. Since newly purchased home had been sitting vacant for 3 years. They provided us with a complete and thorough inspection checklist with all the items inspected and what was found. What is really nice about this company is that they have their own insurance plan for the systems they maintain. I enjoyed their service and most likely will use them very soon again in the future.

Technician inspected the cooling system including the blower unit in our attic and the condenser unit located outside the house. Did not identify any issues, I guess that was a good thing :-) The system was installed a couple of years ago, so all the components are still relatively new and we were really not expecting to find anything wrong. Now it's the summer and everything is working fine. We also recently contacted One Hour Heating and AC to get a quote for another job. Their price was about mid-way between two other firms' quotes. In the end, we decided not to get the work done.

Mr. [removed member name], thank you for your response and vote of confidence. In viewing your records I see that we were just out this month, July, as you are contemplating remodeling and need the unit moved. I hope that all goes well with your endeavor but perhaps moving the a/c unit might be best after the hot weather - lol. Gillian Collins, Owner

Installation mistake of attaching drain to wrong pipe caused water leakage and gasket rusting. In spite of the high cost for the whole system plus warranty they did not recommend a surge suppressor. When the indoor fan motor was destroyed they refused to provide any coverage under their labor and parts warranty. This repair cost about 900 dollars. They still did not recommend a surge protector. We did that ourselves . It took three attempts to repair a control board. Last suggestion they made was to replace an outdoor motor starter capacitor that was within acceptable limits and is still fine. They wanted 400 dollars for this as preventative maintenance. The part cost was minimal. The cost was labor based. The company we changed to had no concerns about that part. This last issue broke trust and caused us to finally change companies after years of growing concerns.
Description of Work: Used them for initial installation 10 years ago and for service since then until we switched.

[member name removed], I recognize your name from many years ago and you live so close to me. Unfortunately, you must have moved onto another HVAC company as we haven't been out to your home since July 10, 2012. At that time you had a strange odor that we couldn't locate for you. Prior to that visit 10/11/11, 8/2/11, 6/14/11, 11/15/10 all where checkups on the system and changing filters for you. You must have had an electrical surge or lightning strike for you to mention the surge protector; most homeowners when offered this protection decline the offer. Unfortunately we do not always note what we offer the homeowner if they decline our recommendation. Acts of God are not normally covered by any manufacturer's warranty. I am truly sorry that we were not able to provide the service that you and your family required. My best to you and your family. Gillian Collins, owner

After this Angie's List deal which was a system check, I was informed that I most likely needed a new system. I had my system turned on for 1 week when it stopped working and I figured I would need to get a new system. Before One-hour was to come out, I decided to get another opinion. The other person found the following: - a bulging blown capacitor - a system that had inadequate pressure -a system 4 pounds low on freon -A dirty coil, full of debris This other HVAC person made the repairs for a fraction of what the new system would have cost and the system is running perfectly. I am certain that these checks were not done on my system and the intention all along was to sell me a new system. While I may need a system in the next couple of years, I was informed that my compressor could well last another several years. Before posting this review I asked one hour for an explanation but never received an answer.

Our tech, Nathan Gerlach, gets straight A's. I need to put that out there first. Any non-A is because of the way we had to interact with the company, not Nathan. To repeat: Nathan was terrific. The system check was thorough. The estimate for additional work was detailed and understandable. The service contract seemed a no-brainer. Then things went down hill. First: the documents explaining the service contract never came. (They later claimed to have mailed them, and I suppose it is possible they got lost in the mail.) Based on this, I will use the services of the contract (2 system checks in the next year) but not renew the contract. Second: We waited about 4 weeks to be called to have the part installed, but no call ever came. Because of the crack, we could not use the A/C or water would be all over the basement. We also could not use the furnace because the crack was spewing out carbon monoxide. (Nathan, the excellent tech, explained all this to us and based on his advice, we bought and installed carbon monoxide detectors.) We finally called the company. I explained, and the man who took my call looked into the records, found our record, and for some reason didn't understand what he was seeing. He told us he would elevate our call and his superior would call us "right away". To me that means stay by the phone, it'll happen today, at least. But we never got a call. A couple of days later, we called the company again. The woman who answered was very nice and also had some problem with our record. She said she would figure it out and call back. She actually did a few hours later and scheduled a time for the part's installation about a week later, but warned that we would be kicked to the back of the line if the weather got hot and their service people needed to go out on A/C runs. (But isn't that what we had -- broken A/C? And the service contract had promised that if we had problems, we would be put to the front of the line. Hmmmmm.) I believed then the part was never ordered when we first signed the contract (reason the people we called "didn't understand" our record) and that the "back of the line" excuse was a way to delay us if the newly ordered part was late in coming. When he arrived, our tech Nathan (again excellent) told us that he had kept asking about us and our part, but that nothing had happened. My guess is that our call got things moving again. So my review of this company is very mixed. The service where it counts -- the check of the system, the fix of the part -- was excellent, and performed by a wonderfully competent, on time, considerate, and generous with his knowledge and advice tech. I can't recommend Nathan Gerlach highly enough. He was just fantastic. If I were rating Nathan only, he'd get straight A's. I hope we can always have him look at our equipment, even if I have to deal with his company. The company he keeps, however: well. The first person to answer our call after the silent month deserves and F. He did nothing except answer the phone. The next person gets a B. At least she got things going again and the part ordered, but was not honest with us -- she could have said the part hadn't been ordered and not done the little "put to the back of the line" dance. And the person responsible for ordering the part gets a big fat F. So: ask for Nathan, call daily after you contract for a service. It seems we should have been a squeaky wheel almost immediately. Without our call, we'd still be waiting.
Description of Work: This is a little complicated. I had this company come, using an Angie's List coupon, to do an A/C check before the summer. We also had a problem (we thought a water pump on the fritz) and asked to have that looked at an given a price estimate. The tech who came, Nathan Gerlach, was excellent. He did a thorough check, diagnosed our problem as a cracked shield in the unit (so water was leaking out and never getting to the pump) and gave us an estimate. We contracted for that, and also bought a service contract.

Overall the experience was good but it became apparent that the goal is to sell the maintenance plan or convince us that it might be time to replace both Heating and Cooling units. Granted our units are very old (~20 years) but they work just fine. I guess I thought this visit would include some preventative maintenance, but that was not the case, and reading the deal maybe I miss understood.
Description of Work: Reviewed our existing Heating and cooling functionality. The service person did fix one item related to the filter anchor point but otherwise it was just an inspection.

Everybody involved did a fine job, including the estimator (Chris), and the installers (Jody and Alex). They showed up right on time and did a very speedy and efficient job of replacing the old unit. They also installed new CO detectors in the house in order to comply with current code, even though it was not explicitly mentioned in the contract. They were very pleasant to deal with and very responsive to questions and concerns. We would definitely use them again if needed.

Providers were friendly and took their time. The deal avoided the additional (standard) service call so that was nice. They recommended a free hot water heater flush/inspection being that our pipes are very old so we took them up on it. However it took over 4 months for that provider to come out (from a sister-company). No complaints or issues with one-hour, they did good work.

Dre is definitely an Asset to One Hour Air Conditioning & Heating. He was very detail oriented. He explained in detail everything he was doing. He even pointed out where a critter was chewing on the wire attached to my air conditioning unit. I asked him what he suggested I do to correct the problem. He explained two options that I could do which I planned on doing ASAP. After Dre went over the paper work he told me that he was going to get some electrical tape and put it on the wires where the critter chewed. That was very thoughtful of him.
Description of Work: Dre was the service person who came to my home; he did a check up on my air conditioner; then hosed the unit and checked the wires. He explained everything he did and pointed out the issues that needed to be taken care of.
