They never called me.

Mike was very reponsive. He returned all emails very promptly. After having to wait for the rain to stop, the fence went up in two days. They did a good job, kept the work area neat and cleaned up after they were done.

Mike came out and measured and then had estimates for three different options the next day. He explained to me pluses and minuses of each option as well as the type of wood and height of fence to use. These options were realistic and truthful, not the most expensive. Once I made a decision, Mike kept in touch by email regarding the time frame; and realistically postponed for one day when the weather turned rainy. The next day, he and his crew were punctual and all very friendly and professional. By the time I got home at the end of the day, the new fence and gate were installed, looked great and all debris etc from the old fence was gone and sawdust swept away. They were very careful about bushes that I had along the fence line. When I am ready to replace the fence on the back boundary of my yard, I will definitely use Fine Fence.

Fine Fence did an outstanding job. Mike worked with me on several options for the fence and I had several gates installed. We worked though a few options and I was very pleased with the result. It came out even better than I expected. He has a great crew and the job was done in a single day. Highly recommended.

Update 5-24-2011: First let me start by saying that overall I would still give this company an A rating. With that said I had two small problems after the installation was completed which have not been fixed as of two months later. Immediately after the install I noticed that both of by side gates (I have one on each side of the house) had sticking thumb latches. The result is that when you press the thumb latch the lever on the inside of the gate stays in the up position. This keeps the gate from actually locking in the closed position which makes it prone to opening in the wind and then slamming shut, thus bending the internal latch. I reported this problem within just a day or two of the installation date. Mike promised to send his crew back to fix it. I have sent two emails since that date, both times Mike said he would fix it the next time the crew was in the area. However, it still is not fixed as of two months later. While it is not a big deal, I would hope that for over $7,000 some time would be made to fix this problem. I believe I have been extremely patient and understanding during his busy season. Original Post: The company was great to work with. Mike took the time to explain the options and provided me several quotes based on various options. Once we finalized the contract he said it would roughly a week before he could be out. Instead, we received a pleasant surprise and he showed up two days later. His crew were clean, efficient, polite and performed quality work. I would recommend Fine Fence to anyone and highly recommend that you contact them if you are interested in a quality fence.

I depended on Angie?s list exclusively for selecting a contractor for this project. I obtained estimates from the four top contractors at Angie?s list. I knew very little about fence styles and wood types. Mike, through a series of emails, answered all my questions thoroughly giving equal ways to the pluses and minuses of each option. Mike was informative, straightforward, and easy-going. I appreciated that he took a great deal of time responding to my many queries while I was still in the processes of choosing a contractor. I choose Fine Fence after taking into account the reviews in Angie?s list, Mike?s responsiveness while I was choosing a contractor, and his bid being significantly more competitive than the other contractors. Mike supervised the installation. The new fence looks great. I am completely satisfied and I recommend Fine Fence highly.

Best home remodeling experience I've had. Mike was awesome; he was responsive and punctual. His guys did a terrific job installing our fence. I would highly recommend Fine Fence to anyone who wants a stress-free, top-notch fence installation.

Mike was very easy to work with. I was also having landscaping done before and after the fence was completed and he came to the house twice to go over what I wanted (to make sure it looked right - the yard is on a hill). Price was slightly less than other estimates. The fence looks great --- I would recommend his company.

Mike was very responsive throughout the process. He spent time with me during the estimate talking about types of wood I could use, styles of fence, whether or not to clear coat it. I decided to stick with the cedar privacy fencing as it lasted so long. He explained face framing the fence, where the posts are on the inside of the yard, and metal holders do not need to be used to support the 2 x 4 frames. (The metal holders rust and don't look as nice. Our old fence used these). I had gotten one other rough estimate of $8000 which I thought was extremely high. Mike told me during the estimate how much it might cost, and the official estimate was emailed to me that evening. It was very detailed. The cost of $7200 sort of took my breath away. From what I had been reading on Angie's list, I had not seen any prices quite that high. But Fine Fence got such good write ups, they offered the Western Red Cedar I wanted, Mike had been thoroughly professional and upfront thus far...so we decided to go for it. Mike's paperwork for our HOA was detailed and well done. We had no problem getting it approved. They started on a Friday and finshed the next day. The crew was professional, efficient, polite, skilled. They worked very well as a team. The day they finished, cleanup was excellent, in my yard and my neighbors. Mike came out that evening to inspect the work. The fence turned out beautifully. All around a great experience. I can highly recommend Fine Fencing.

Contacted company to get an estimate for fence installation behind a townhome. Mike (owner) came out within a day or two to measure and discuss options for fencing. He very promptly sent us an estimate that evening. His price was very reasonable and slightly lower than an estimate we received from another company. He even remembered to deduct the Angie's list coupon for members. Mike seemed very professional and knowledgeable about his profession. He listened well regarding our needs and made suggestions for building materials. We ended up with a Western Red Cedar fence with pressure treated posts. Mike showed up at the beginning of the project to go over the plans with his crew and the crew worked diligently throughout the day. The workers were neat and courteous and seemed to know their job well. The fence was installed in one day. Mike also came to the job site at the end of the day before the work crew left. We are very happy with our fence. It looks great and we've gotten many compliments from our neighbors. Mike was very professional and his communication skills were excellent. We would definitely recommend him for future work.

I contacted Mike at Fine Fence along with 2 other fence companies. He came to the house within a day or 2 to provide an estimate. Mike gave me recommendations for the fence which was greatly appreciated since this was my first time having a fence installed as well as keeping the neighbors and HOA satisfied. Their price was the lowest of 3 companies I contacted. Mike was very flexible and once I had the HOA approval he scheduled the fence install the following Monday. They completed the fence in 1 day and it looked incredible. My next door neighbor was so impressed he is going to use them to replace his existing fence. Everyone who has seen the fence has been inpressed. Mike even came back the next day to clean up the back yard more than the workers had done. I have had numerous contractors in my house performing various jobs and Mike and his team are the first to exceed my expectations. I have recommended his company to several of my friends and would use them again without even thinking about in the future.

They came to complete the repairs within two days of my call. The work was finished quickly, and of excellent quality - very professionally done.

Excellent work and highly recommend Mike and Fine Fence. An outstanding value. Estimate was the most reasonable of four we solicited. Punctual for the estimate, punctual for the work. Very accommodating in scheduling and of all my requests. A highly professional crew of five finished the work in one day; the team worked like a well-oiled machine, was very precise, took great care about the job site, and thoroughly cleaned up afterwards. We love our new fence and recommend Fine Fence without hesitation.

We had submitted an application to our HOA for some other work on the house and the HOA noticed that our fence did not conform to the HOA guidelines. The fence had been put in by one of the previous owners and they had not installed the fence per the HOA approval. When the HOA noticed this, they gave us till the end of the month to replace the fence per the original approval. We contacted 3 companies that we chose from Angie's List, Fine Contracting being one of these. We chose Fine for 3 reasons (i) Mike Shaefer from Fine was clearly knowledgeable about the field, very cordial and helpful and willing to work with us on our scheduling requirements (ii) they were able to schedule the work comfortably within the time period that we required (iii) they were the lowest in terms of price. It is hard to beat that Trifecta! While the other two contractors that we obtained quotes from were also equally knowledgeable, they were both higher than Fine. Also, although they told us they would schedule the work within the required time period, it looked like there might have been some juggling of jobs going on. We did not want to take a chance. We were also requested to decide within a couple days if we wanted to get the work done in that time period. To top it off we had to contend with the fact that we had vacation that we had previously booked that would take us out of town in the interim. Mike from Fine worked with us on that. Since we would not be home when the actual work was performed, he came out on a Saturday prior to that in order to mark out the boundary where the new fence needed to go (one of the violations by the previous owner was that they had installed part of the fence on open space, encroaching about 20 ft out of the property line). On the day that the crew arrived, we were just leaving for the airport. We made sure that they knew the scope of the work and left. When we returned home from vacation, the new fence was in place. During their work apparently they had to clear some area around the fence line, so we got some of the brush cleaned out from our backyard as a bonus !!! Overall the experience was hassle-free. We would definitely use Fine Contracting in the future if/when required. We would also recommend Fine without hesitation.

Mike came in person, on time for the estimate. The company did the work in the anticipated time frame despite bad weather. They cleaned up the job site on a daily basis and did a quality job. The fence looks great.

Mike was amazing. I emailed several firms from Angie's List for quotes on my backyard fence project. Mike was the first to respond and was remarkably communicative and timely throughout the project. Several times he readily adjusted the fence design to meet our changing desires. The price was the best of the two I received. The team that installed the fence were polite and professional and did a great job. Mike came by and spent a good bit of time ensuring all was going well. First-rate in every way.

Mike was terrific. He came out to the house, and talked through the options that would work best for us - we were primarily interested in the fence to keep our dogs in the yard, but were also thinking about privacy and aesthetic considerations. He did not try to push options that were more than we needed. He was extremely professional, courteous, reasonable in terms of his price, and finished the job on the day, (and within the amount of time) that we discussed. The fence itself is absolutely beautiful, and we have gotten compliments from all of our neighbors. We'd had two friends use him, and they were also extremely pleased. We would absolutely recommend Mike / Fine Fence to anyone.

Mike responded promptly to every phone message and email. He came by to provide an estimate, and discussed other fencing options (picket, paddock) with us. He answered our questions promptly and in detail. He scheduled the work quickly, and the men came when promised. They made some adjustments to location of posts as needed. After the work was done, we asked Mike to make some adjustments to the wire in places where the dog might escape. He came by and did so promptly. We are very happy with the fence - it is well-made and attractive. It was a pleasure to do business with Mike.

Mike was very responsive and was able to start the job quickly (within a week, I think) and complete it in one day, much faster than other contractors. His price was good -- one big company gave us a lower price, but I think that's because they arrived for an estimate as Mike was leaving and saw him here. We also valued his knowledge of different fencing products. I described a neighbor's fence I liked, and he knew exactly what the product was, when it was largely discontinued and stores stopped carrying it, and why, and still offered to try and find it for us if it's what we wanted. (We didn't -- went with his recommendation and glad we did.)

Mike was extremely responsive thruout the entire process - promptly answering questions and responding to issues. The job was delayed by 1 1/2 weeks due to our December rains but started as soon as the ground dried. Mike was not present thru out the entire process but came the first day when the team started. Old fence was removed and posts set the first day, cross bars, pickets and 1 gate finished the second and the 2nd gate finished the third day. On arriving home the first day, I was extremely disappointed at the disarray left by the work crew: cords over my deck, across the yard, compressor still plugged in, tree and shrub trimmings everywhere, some branches across my driveway. I spent 30 minutes in cleanup, contacting Mike the next morning. He responded promptly, visited the work crew, reported back to me giving a discount for the cleanup I had done which was "their work". The 2nd day the area was neat. The last day, after inspecting the workmanship, I had some questions concerning exposed nails, some wood splintering on the cross bars at nailing sites and one set of cross bars not seated close - would this be a structural issue? The work crew chief took care of the nails immediately, Mike came,inspected and addressed the structural questions. Overall, Mike is excellent to work with, altho his crew needed closer guidance on cleanup, they responded when it was addressed. Mike has a wonderful manner - direct, clear, and I would be very happy to refer him to others as well as to use him again. As to the fence, it is beautiful! And my 2 dogs love their freedom.

We took a number of bids from Angie?s List, and all of them looked really good. He was just able to get us on to his schedule a little bit faster than the others. He did a wonderful job with the fence.

Mike gave me an estimate and installed our cedar picket fence within a week! Mike and his crew were always on time. Mike walked me through my options patiently (this is my first fence) when we first met and answered and asked all the right questions. Mike had estimates ready for me and dates to come out and do the job the next day. We scheduled the job within the week. Mike and his crew completed the job in one day. They were prompt, professional, and nice to my two big dogs ;)

Perfect. What can I tell you? Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you get good, sometimes you get both. Mike Schaefer came out and gave me an estimate for the entire job that was $1,000 less that another company charged 18 years ago for 3/4 of the fence. His highly skilled crew removed the old fence and built an entirely new fence in one day, a fence so impressive that two neighbors came by that evening and got Mike's information so he could fence in their yards.
