FINE Fence

We first met with Charlie for an estimate and to answer a slue of questions. Charlie had a great attitude, answered all of our questions, and had great things to say about his boss (the owner) Mike Schaefer. When someone has such great things to say about their boss, and their boss is not around, that's a company doing something right. We received three other estimates and Fine Fence was on par with a couple of them (give or take a little) and well below one of them. After talking to Charlie again with a few more questions we decided to go with Fine Fence. When dealing with such a good attitude, it was an easy choice. We were completely pleased with all of the work done, and were glad we chose them. Mike did the finalizing, completing a few minor touches, then ensured we were happy with it. We had a lot of unleveled ground and the crew did very well with it, and kept the fence level along the perimeter. All in all, well done.

Working with Mike at FINE Fence was an excellent experience. We had an extremely tight deadline to work with, and Mike was able to make it happen. The crew showed up promptly on the set installation date, and worked extremely fast. They cleaned up the work site when complete and were careful to walk me around to make sure that I was happy with all of the work performed. I would absolutely recommend FINE Fence to friends and family.

Everything about Fine Fence and Mr. Mike Schaefer was excellent. Mike responded very quickly to my initial call and provided all details and time-lines for the project expeditously. On-site inspection and job layout was performed within a couple of days of my call and all paperwork was done very quickly including material required by the HOA for review/approval and the building permit. The crew arrived right on time as promised and completed the work exactly as planned. Clean up was performed very well and Mike followed up on the job the same day. The whole process went very smoothly and I would certainly contract with Mike's company again in the future,

Working with Fine Fence was a pleasant experience. The cost was less than two other estimates I was given. Mike is very personable and provides great service. He responded quickly with my quote and completing the work. Hector and his crew were prompt, pleasant and confirmed the exact work to be done prior to starting. They also put all the excess dirt where I requested. Mike was onsite several times during the installation to be sure everything was ok. I am a happy customer!

He was easy to deal with and honest. They did quality work. They hauled away the old fence and I would go back to him again. It was a very positive experience.

Had a 6' privacy installed on my lot. Ran into issues because I'm on a gas easement. Mike (the owner) handled everything quickly and professionally. His crew came in and installed in 1 day. Great quality. Highly recommend to anyone

Fine fence was terrific. They were responsive and did very good quality work. Mike the owner worked with us on the price and was very reasonable. Charlie our salesperson made was terrific to work with and answered all of our questions. I would highly recommend fine fence and would absolutely use them again in the future.

We had had several days of rain. Mike and his team arrived on time and solved all of my fencing concerns - installing an aluminum fence over a swale and up a slope. They did a beautiful job all in one day!! Thank you, Mike.

The company replied asking additional questions about my project. I answered these questions the same day and I called their office the next day (May 30) to follow up. After speaking with a receptionist, she said he would contact the owner to follow up. The same day, she left me a voicemail stating they would provide a "rough" estimate over the weekend via email and that "if it was within my budget", then you would send some to my house to provide an actual estimate. I found it odd, since I did not state I had a budget and most companies rarely provide estimates without sending someone to the site to examine the conditions, take measurements and properly assess the project's requirements to provide accurate pricing. Regardless, I waited for the quote. Over week passed and I never received the "rough estimate" neither anyone from the company contacted me to schedule a free estimate. Both FINE Fence and Angie's list web site indicate the company offers "free estimates". I don't know if they found my project to be too small or if they are just too busy. Either way, I believe the company should have been more responsive and let me know either that they could not provide a free estimate or if yes, how long the wait would be; instead of not responding for over a week. In my opinion, a week without contact after the customer has followed up via telephone does not show a commitment to customer service. From a company in Angie's list, I expected a response in a timely manner expected the "Free estimate" they advertised instead of the "promise" of a rough estimate that never came. I emailed the owner and he apologized.

Scheduling was easy. Charlie came out and took a look at the job. The next day I received a very detailed estimate with a drawing of the projected job. He was very understanding and responsive when we were thinking about making changes to the job. He came back out right away to take a look at it. Ultimately we chose another company, but wouldn't hesitate to use FINE Fence. Charlie did a great job and our decision on who to go with was tough because of how thorough he was.

This project went smoothly. I was impressed by Jeremy, the sales person who came to discuss the project and to price it out. He understood exactly what I wanted and he freely offered suggestions. He was quite knowledgeable and experienced. I really liked that he was able to compute a price on the spot instead of making me wait for him to get back to the office and contact me in a few days. The only hitch was that the double gate was on back order, but that was not the fault of Fine Fence. As soon as it arrived, Mike contacted me and scheduled the project for immediate installation. On the day of installation the crew arrived right on time. The foreman met with me before they began to be sure that we were both on the same page with what was to be done. After the installation was done,the foreman showed me the fence and gates and explained how the gates operate. They cleaned up all of the mess and left my property looking neat and clean. Mike followed up with a phone call to ensure that everything had gone to my satisfaction. I felt as though this company was customer oriented and highly competent. Would definitely use them again.

It was excellent! The whole process was about 1-1/2 weeks from start to finish. Mike was responsive and I received a good estimate on the fence that I wanted. He listened to what I was looking for and made a great suggestion. He told me his crew would be here today between 8:30-9 and they showed up at 8:15. We marked the corners for the posts and where the gates would go. I left the crew and returned later that evening. The fence was completed and there was no mess. His crew was responsive, friendly and immediately started the job. I have two German Shepherds and have been here for almost a year without a fence. I have been told that I could wait weeks to have a fence installed during the Spring, but not with Fine Fence. They were able to accommodate me and knock it out as soon as possible. I am so very happy! My dogs love their new area and I am loving the fact that I can open the door and let them out without waiting. :) I will use them again.

Mike was very friendly and fast in his responses to set up work on our fence. It was completed rather soon after an estimate was given. Three men worked on the fence, Mike showed up at the beginning of the job, left, and never came back to see it completed. The work was done rather quickly, none of the workers ever asked us questions, and the only problem that arose while they were here was they that were dropping their 4 x 4 cutoffs onto my plants so I went into the yard to remove them after seeing that they were destroying some of my more expensive perennials. One of the workers knocked on the back door, asked my husband how things looked, my husband was able to walk to our side of the fence and say that things looked good, and before he or I were on the other side of the fence the crew of men left. And this is when things became much different... On the neighbor's side of the fence, which is about 7 inches lower than our ground in some areas, there sat a very different looking fence. The workers cut away about ten fence boards since a little bit of dirt was in their way, this looks ridiculous and was very poorly done, it was also not explained to us prior to working on the fence and would not have even taken a shovel to move this loose dirt that was there. They also cut away from boards near an old tree stump, again this was not explained to us and looks wrong. At the back corner where this new section of fence meets another section in a corner, they nailed a board on diagonally to fill a gap, this does not seem sturdy, nails are sticking out of it, and looks awful. And the biggest problem lies where the neighbor's ground is much lower than ours*, there is a gap under the eight foot section of fence that is about seven inches high-plenty of room for the dog to dig his way out, kids toys to get lost, and soil to wash away in the rain. We were told by Mike to put wood along the bottom of the fence on the neighbor's side. For $2400, this is unacceptable. The workers should have laid some boards down there before the fence was installed so that they stayed in there and kept the dirt in place since our side is higher. We also have found several nails on the ground around both our yard and our neighbor's yard, luckily the kids or dog have not gotten hurt on them. One of my plants that was about a foot and a half away from a post is now missing. Two plants were completely smashed and are dead now. Mike called that evening to see if we were satisfied with the fence. I began telling him the issues my husband and I found on the other side of the fence, he hung up on me. From then on he chose to only email us. When I replied to an email with my concerns and what I would like to be fixed to our satisfaction, he did not respond for more than a week and a half except to say that he received the email. His response at that point was that he would offer us a one time discount and would not be fixing the problems. This is poor workmanship, an awful way for a company to deal with customer satisfaction, and something we were not expecting or hoping for. At this point we are still left with a fence that does not meet our family's needs and much work to do to correct it. We choose FINE Fence based on reviews we read on Angie's List and felt that it was important for us to share our experience with others. I also found this response from Mike on another Angie's List review and thought that it was very funny that he no longer feels this way: "FINE takes great pride in going that extra mile to make sure customers are happy with the work. I remain ready and willing to work with this customer or any customer to resolve any issue that he or she finds to be unsatisfactory and FINE will do whatever it takes, within sound reason, to adjust or correct our workmanship to achieve a satisfactory end." *I understand that there may be a gap under the fence since we are on a slope, you could either install a fence that is straight along the top and cut some boards shorter to keep a level line along the length of fence or you could install the fence with the slope of land resulting in a fence that is staggered or slanted along the top. This fence is neither, they did not make the choice to keep it straight along the top or straight against the ground.

The service turned out very well. They did a beautiful job. They were able to meet our special requests. The technicians did a great job and the owner who came out for the estimate seemed to be an honest broker and did not try to up sell us.

I think the sales person's name was Jeremy. He came to our new house to scope out a job and prepare a bid. Things went pretty well right up until the end when he became very forceful inquiring whether we were getting competing bids. I was taken aback but figured no reason I can't be honest with him so I told him yes. He then aggressively questioned us to find out who. Once we had told him he very snidely said, "Tell [Company Owner A] I said 'hi' and then also whoever shows up from [Company B]" It was quite an uncomfortable encounter but one we could have looked past had the bid been competitive but no bid was ever submitted to us (price above is based on bids from the other two providers). Given the fact that the salesperson had such a chip on his shoulder about the competing bids I can only assume he was too offended (?) to follow through. All around, highly unprofessionial.

I told Mike we needed a fence that kept our dog in, and he grasped just the type of fence we needed to keep our dog from escaping the yard. The work was scheduled within a reasonable amount of time. Mike was good at keeping in touch. His workmen showed up on time. They were very accommodating and pleasant. They finished hauling away the old fence and installing the new one in one day. They did a beautiful job. The fence looks great. Everything was done with great precision. The spacing between the boards and sections is perfect. They even fixed some boards that had come loose on our other fence. I would definitely use them again if needed.

I honestly cannot say enough good things - my husband and I are blown away not only by how it looks but by the standard of service - in fact everything ! Emails and calls were responded to fast, the process was easy and quick and the guys doing the work were pleasant, hard working and talented - they even stayed behind at the end of the job so they could see our dog running about his new , enclosed garden!! The quality of the work and the pace at which they work is impressive. Mike and Charlie were a pleasure to deal with - even though I changed my mind 2 or 3 times about how many gates and where the gates should be - its a woman's prerogative isnt it ? LOL

After contacting FINE Fence for a quote, Mike was super quick to respond and schedule someone to come out and give an estimate. Charles came to our home and was very courteous and professional, gave us all the information we needed and promptly emailed us the estimate. It was exactly what we were looking for! We scheduled the install and after some rainy day delays (which is so typical this time of year) we had our beautiful new fence! Mike and Charles were always in contact keeping us up to date on the schedule. I feel like they really took care of us and our needs. I have already recommended FINE Fence to neighbors and family and have gotten compliments on how great it looks! It was a refreshing experience working with a company like FINE.

Jeremy was the first point of contact for the scope of work and estimate to remove our old fencing and install a paddock style fence. He was professional and spent a great deal of time explaining the options we had and different styles of fencing available. He carefully measured , took notes and listened to our questions and concerns. Fine's bid was far and away the best we received and we signed a contract with them around 4/3. Mike ,the owner, called us within 2 days to provide a projected start and completion date, however weather delayed their start and Mike called us to provide a revised start date, that was met. Hector was the supervisor for the installation , he was very polite ,knowledgeable and he and his crew never stopped from the time they hit the yard until the job was completed. The installation was done in 2 days and after completion the crew walked the entire fence line picking up debris and any nails that may have been dropped. We couldn't be more pleased with results and are completely satisfied with the quality of our fence. Fine Fence is a rare contractor these days in that they all care about their customers, provide a cost effective service and take great pride in their work.

Mike, my wife and I wanted to thank you for the fantastic experience we had working with Fine Fence - not once but two times. We needed an immediate fencing solution for our dogs after moving into our new house; you were fast, friendly, courteous and receptive to the style of fencing we wanted to have put in. It looks great and we could not be happier. After settling in a few months and as previously planned with Mike, we mapped out an additional larger section of yard that we wanted fenced in as well. Mike worked to come up with a design that complemented the look of the house and yard. Locating regular and over-sized gates were where appropriate, again....we could not be happier with the look and functionality the finished product provides. Mike and his staff did a fantastic job, paying close attention to our wishes, were extremely professional and left the place in perfect order. perfectly clean. Even when we threw in a last minute modification to the layout, Mike was able to accommodate our request. They came out and introduced themselves and got right to work. However, due to a misunderstanding the enclosure did not meet our expectations. After discussing the issue with Mike they came out again and fixed the issue. Great follow up and service! The work is very well constructed and I have no doubt it will be standing for many years to come. It looks great and we are very happy with the work and the customer service. We may have been able to get it cheaper from another company, but I doubt the quality would be the same.

We have 1-1/2 acres but needed a partial fenced in area to contain our dogs. We received 3 quotes, all were with $700 of each other. We chose Fine fence in part due to the reviews here on Angie's List. From the time I called for a quote until the installation was finished was less than 10 days. Amazing!! The other 2 companies quoted 3-4 weeks. The salesman Charlie was so very helpful in suggesting fence types that would suit my needs. Mike called and updated me almost daily on the status of the job. I have never received such exceptional attention. They truly care about their customers. I can't stress this enough. The fencing was installed in just one day and looks fantastic. The crew worked like clockwork. As soon as one phase was done, they immediately began the next. They were professional, neat and required little guidance from me. By the time they were done, my yard was as clean as when they began. Before they left for the day, they walked around the fencing several times to make sure all details were complete. You won't go wrong using Fine Fence. What a superb company

The fence that Fine Fence installed is perfect and only took them a little over a day to install. It's pressure treated pine, strong and looks great. The work that Mike and his crew did exceeded my expectations. We love our fence and enjoy being able to let our 120lb lab roam free while we are all out grilling. I would definitely recommend Fine Fence to anyone who wants a fence.

We went with FINE FENCE because the quote we received from them was the most competitive and their rating on Angie?s List added credibility. Charlie and Mike were both very communicative regarding scheduling and any modifications that needed to be made. Mike even came to our house with a metal detector to help locate the metal pins that were supposed to mark our property line. Unfortunately only one pin could be found so we had to have a land survey done, but we appreciated the effort to save us some money on Mike?s part. The job was done very quickly and efficiently. The men who did the work were very courteous and did a great job cleaning up each day (it took 2 days in total). Overall they were a pleasure to work with and our puppy was ecstatic to run freely. It was well worth the investment!

I am a new homeowner and this was my first experience with any kind of contracting/home improvement. The gentleman who showed up to provide the estimate gave me 2 options as well as his opinion on why one (paddock fencing) would be better than the other (split rail fencing) for my needs (because the bottom rail is closer to the ground than the split rail to better deter dogs from digging out). The paddock fencing was cheaper too, so we chose that option. The fence looks great! Our new neighbor commented on how nice it looked too! Only minor complaint - one of the crew left a soda can in the neighbor's yard (I had offered all the crewmembers sodas) - but luckily we got to it before our neighbor saw it (I think). I would definitely hire them again if I needed their services, and I would recommend them to family or friends.
