Came by for a pre-purchase home inspection - provides an extremely detailed report. Takes time and is very thorough. Very personable and was very responsive to follow up emails and phone calls for advice.

We used John Vaughn for two home inspections. He was fantastic. We were first-time homebuyers, and he helped us feel 100% comfortable with the purchase we ended up making. He brought us through the houses and spent time explaining everything to us - how work had been done, how it should have been done, why the code is what it is, why the code in some cases should be more stringent. We actually walked away from our contract on the first house based on John's inspection - there were way too many problems, and it would have been too much for us to handle. When we walked through the house with our realtor, we saw some less-than-perfect work, but we were oblivious to how deep the problems ran. When we walked through the house with John during the inspection, we felt like idiots for even bidding on the house. He had a great, professional demeanor, and explained everything so clearly so that we could fully understand the issues. His reports were thorough, and he gave us a homeowner's handbook that has really been helpful to us as first-time homeowners. He answered all of our questions during the inspection, even the elementary, without hesitation. He is incredibly knowledgable and does a great job helping you understand whether something is not a big deal or whether it could be a huge deal. I have recommended him several times to friends, and we will absolutely use him in the future. If you have ever seen and quot;Holmes on Holmes,and quot; John Vaughn is the American version!

John was very helpful and answered all of our questions beyond the scope of his inspection. We would defiantly use him again in the future and recommend his services. Only comment to new home buyers, his inspections and report are very thorough, so depending on the type of loan you are trying to get, anticipate getting an FHA appraisal.

We were referred to Mr. Vaughn by a friend who had recently purchased a home in Northern Va. After seeing and hearing a host of home inspection horror stories, the home inspection was a key piece of our home purchasing decision. After reading Mr. Vaughn's resume, education and work experience we were confident with our decision to hire him. He did not disappoint. The home is single family 2-story with a finished basement with a small backyard. Mr. Vaughn showed up promptly and spent the next 6 hours going over every square inch. He inspected rooftop to sump pump and everything in between. He tested all the appliances and house systems, including the HVAC and water heater. We were particularly concerned with the HVAC because it was over 20 years old and as it turned out, was in need of replacement due to electrical issues. The cost of which, thanks to his thorough inspection and pictures, was negotiated at settlement. He took the time to explain all problems, current and potential, and offered suggestions for which fixes should be done immediately and what could wait. He also thoroughly inspected the yard, including the deck, fence and grading. He was very polite and patient and thoroughly answered our seemingly endless list of questions. His services and very thorough report, including pictures, were worth every single penny. He made us confident in our decision to purchase the home. I would recommend him to anyone considering buying property.

John Vaughn is a very experienced, knowledgeable, and friendly home inspector who has done over 11,000 home inspections. Although he has inspected home across the Washington region, he is especially familiar with Capitol Hill and the historic row houses. John spent 5 hours inspecting our 2-story rowhouse plus basement, encouraging me to trail him the whole time, including on the roof. The day after the inspection, he provided us with a 32-page inspection report, including color photos of the areas of our house that needed attention, along with a prioritized list of action items and estimated costs. The report was cross-referenced to corresponding sections in the 324-page home manual he gave us during the inspection. We were extremely pleased with the experience and feel that we have a thorough understanding of our house and what needs to be done, and in what timeframe.
