The Village Carpenter
About us
the Village Carpenter is Family owned and operated business started by my Grandfather when he retired from the steel mill in 1961. I started "in tow" with my Grandfather and Great Grandfather instilling old school craftsmanship and hard core work ethic into a profession they noted, "will always be good for the Family." When Clients call the Village Carpenter, they get me, Mark Letersky from start to finish on every project, as well as an immediate history of a way of doing business on a level where everyone is your Neighbor and they appreciate quality work at a fair price. We like and appreciate our Clients, so if you are just looking for cheap, inexperienced and unskilled labor, we ARE NOT who you are looking for your projects. We do honest work for reasonable compensation. Whether you need all of those little tasks on the "Honey Do" list done and over with, or an extension built on your home, the Village Carpenter offers a reasonably priced solution, great communication (cell, text, email) and all within a reasonable time frame. As always, Have a great day! Mark

Great job, good price, nice to work with.
When someone goes up on a ladder to the upper roof to reattach a gutter, and goes into the attic to install a fan, you're never sure exactly what was done. However, I did later have to go up on a ladder to replace a gutter guard, and found that he had done an excellent job, with extra attention to detail. The attic fan he put in is extra powerful, and you can hear it faintly through the bathroom ceiling fan opening, so I know it is working well.
Would definitely use again.
"The [Member name removed] family is the type of client that makes me want to always be able to provide the services our company has based our traditional craftsmanship and affordable reputation on. I was under the impression that this Client had requested estimates from several contractors before making an informed decision. Removing all of the windows from a home and replacing them with a Client pre-purchased product can be a difficult process. While a Carpenter has to be able to go from room to room and expose a residence to the elements during demo and replacement of every window of a residence, it also disrupts the day to day living of a family. We were able to strike a comfortable balance between naptime and work hours. More importantly, when an issue arose that wasn't originally part and parcel of the main contract, we were able to amicably agree on a mutually satisfying resolution. In addition, once the window work as been completed, this very same Client ran into masonry issues. Their entire chimney structure was in jeopardy, beyond simple pointing up, and the entire chimney needed to be rebuilt. Once again, [Member name removed]sought a few estimates before considering us for the project. We were able to complete a typically invasive and dirty project, and complete it beyond mere satisfaction. The Client and his family enjoy their home, while technically in the city, nestled on a cul-de-sac with a green way to their side. They have every advantage of city living without the “traffic" and the “issues” of the city upon their home. It was both an honor and pleasure to be considered for their projects, let alone to be hired twofold for relatively major projects for the Client. I trust we will be considered for any future projects with their residence if the occasion arises."
Not only is the Village Carpenter highly recommended, they are a versatile Contractor to handle exterior, interior, covered areas, and any other project worthy of taking the time and effort for careful renovation and repairs. Although this project represented every extreme, the professionals from the Village Carpenter stuck to their estimate, stayed on budget, and consistently maintained a level of communication worthy of their reputation. Of great concern for this project was the EPA certification and job site safety standards maintained for all of the lead based restoration. Working areas were draped, tarped, and vacuumed clean daily even on the roof surfaces, gutters, ground surface, and all of the leaded debris was accounted for and properly hauled away in compliance with the EPA guidelines and restrictions. We could not of hope for a more professional, cost-efficient, and more personable company for all of our restoration projects. They completed the extreme gable woodworking and rooftop pinnacle repairs, all sides to the farmhouse on the estate, porch columns and railings, covered porch
surfaces, deck work, shutters, the entire barn and timber work and our 160-year-old woodworking needs were handled with extreme care and masterful preservation by the Village Carpenter.
On a side note, windows were replaced, interior trim and cabinetry was completed, and at the end of every day, the job site was clean and prepared for the next day of the project. There simply is no other choice for a consumer wanting a quality, old-school strong work ethic and masterful skill level carpentry, masonry, electrical and plumbing completed per your request, at your direction, and at a cost qualifying every dollar spent. We will undoubtedly be using this fine company again and again and cannot offer any higher recommendation for their services.
Interestingly enough, they shared that they will consider any size project. They will do small projects, or even tackle the exterior and interior of a 6000 ft.² farmhouse estate like this 1842 landmark. You'll find no better.
Many thanks again to Master Carpenter Mark Letersky, his Family and crew.
"Thank you and congratulations to everyone for a successful renovation which lead to the recent sale of this landmark property!"
"The benefit and privilege of doing work for Angie's List Members is that they have invested the research time and subscription monies into a network of responsible and educated consumers simply in search of what should naturally occur, quality work in exchange for a fair price. Mutual respect between a home owner and a contractor is not an unrealistic premise for a business relationship, it usually is the "norm." We also appreciate and respect this type of Angie’s List Member. (Member name removed) is the ideal of type of Client we had the privilege of providing services, as he is personable, intelligent and appreciates our work. Our Family lives and works in the Hereford Zone and we consider ourselves good neighbors. We participate in community activities, attend church, coordinate school events, donate to local charities and take the opinions of our Clients expressed on Angie’s List very seriously. Not to any surprise, we provide free estimates in the hope of earning the contract and that helps support our Family."
"One of the many benefits and privileges of doing work for the great variety of Angie's List Members is that they have invested their valuable research time and subscription monies into a network of responsible and educated consumers who are all simply in search of what should naturally occur, quality work in exchange for a fair price. Mutual respect between a home owner and a contractor is not an unrealistic premise for a business relationship, it usually is the "norm" and should remain the community standard. We also appreciate and respect this very type of Angie’s List Member. Ned Wilson is the very type of Client we prefer having had the privilege of providing services, as he and his Wife are very personable, intelligent and they always seem to appreciate our work. Our Family lives and works in the Hereford Zone and we consider ourselves good neighbors. We participate in community activities, attend church, coordinate school events, donate to local charities and take the opinions of our Clients expressed on Angie’s List very seriously. Not to any surprise, we provide free estimates in the hope of earning the contracts that help support our Family. We consider that simple premise a good business practice and one that strengthens our neighbor based network."
Once again, Mark came through with top quality work. Another job well done!
Again, Mark Letersky set himself apart from his competitors with his creative solutions and strength of character. He's the best there is!
Mark Letersky is Baltimore's #1 Handyman!
Mark repaired some broken fencing in our horse pasture. He repaired a gate that had not functioned properly in years. He re-graded portions of the pasture to improve functionality of the gates. He repaired two broken gates.
I couldn't be more happy with Mark and absolutely plan to use him again soon.
Mark picked the doors and hardware up at the lumber company.
He arrived at the time he said, did all the alterations from the back of his truck, since the site was a condo and had no space for the tools needed.
He then installed the doors, and they fit perfectly.
I would highly recommend him to anyone needing carpentry and/or handyman services.
My only regret is that I no longer live in Maryland and won't be able to use his services here in Florida.
Mark was very easy to work with professionally - organized, responsive, and able to communicate via email. He was willing to bring his expertise to the table and consult on the project when I wasn't able to provide explicit instructions. He also asked for clarification on the level of work desired when necessary rather than defaulting to a rush job.
After some other renovation experiences this quality of service was unexpected. I hope to keep working with Mark in the future.
Mr. Letersky completed the job efficiently and professionally. He consulted regularly during the repair, and was a pleasure to have in our home. I recommend Mary Letersky without reservation.
