We signed a contract in May and work did not start until October. We were told that their people would be obtaining all permits. Needless to say that never happened. No one contacted us informing us that they had no idea how to go about obtaining permits for waterfront properties. My husband did all the leg work in order to obtain the permits. The whole ordeal was a nightmare. During all of this there were lies after lies being told to us. At a time we requested a meeting with our salesman. After we sent an email to the salesman, he responded saying he would be out of town at the time we requested. Well we just happen to stop by their office during that time and low and behold, who was sitting there but our salesman. From then on we decided no more communication with that man. Once all the permits were obtained, by us, then we were told that a team would have to be put together to start th work. Once the work began, I will say the workers were exceptionally professional and hard working. Now that the job is complete, I’m satisfied with the work, but the customer service is the worse I have ever dealt with

Overall we were happy with the project. The construction was top notch but it took a bit longer than expected. Our advice is to make sure that all of the project requirements are clearly defined and do not make any assumptions as we had a few awkward discussions to keep the project moving forward. That said, we were happy with the end results and would recommend this contractor.

The service was top notch from beginning to end. To start with my project manager Greg Kapanoske was phenomenal ! He came over initially, and took his time explaining the process and also provided the best solution that would work best for our home. The company provide overall outstanding service. I recently used The Deck & Fence Company to build my deck and patio on the rear of my house. We first met with Brad who came out, took measurements and came up with a great design. We got several estimates from other companies and he gave us the best design and price. The crew did such a good job and were very professional. The company handled everything for us. Brad stopped by our house a few times during the construction and even afterwards to make sure that we were happy. I would definitely recommend them to anyone for any future work!

We hired The Deck & Fence Company to remove our old wooden 20' x 12' deck and replace it with a composite 20' x 14' screened-in deck. Our experience with everyone associated with the project was exceptional. We called the company to set up an initial consultation and soon after Brad was at our house discussing our options. We ended up getting estimates from four deck companies but Deck & Fence Company gave us the most competitive offer with the best design. We signed the contract with Brad and learned that the estimated build dates coincided with a family vacation. We asked Brad to wait until after we returned from our vacation to start construction and Brad ensured that did happened. After a phone call from the company to provide details one day prior to the project's start date, the old deck was removed while we were away and construction began the day after we returned. Brad was with us throughout the project from beginning to end. Whenever we had a question or concern, Brad either emailed or called us to discuss it. Darwin led the crew who built the deck - he and his crew were excellent. The attention to detail, the quality of the work, and their work ethic were all top-notch. Brad estimated the project would take between 1.5 and 2 weeks and Darwin's crew had no trouble meeting that schedule. The crew had the entire backyard cleaned of extra materials, tools, and waste the same day as the completion of construction. There were two issues with the project but both were handled promptly and to our satisfaction. There was a small issue with the skylights but Brad had the crew fix it as soon as possible with excellent communication about the work. Additionally, the county took issue with the rafter spacing in the final inspection but Darwin fixed the problem by adding additional rafters within a few days and the county gave its final approval. No one would ever be able to tell that the added rafters were not installed during the initial construction. We could not be happier with how the screened-in deck turned out. It is exactly what we wanted - the quality is excellent. We would hire Deck & Fence again without reservation.

The salesperson/project coordinator Greg took a few weeks to actually call me after I submitted my lead through Angie’s List I emailed them 2x and actually called the company. That should have been my first clue, however he proved to be very responsive and professional through the SALES process. That’s where the responsiveness ended, once he had the deposit, he took days to answer our calls. We never saw him again even though he assured us he’d been on site daily. The project took about two weeks to build a screened in porch and a deck. The materials were delivered on a Thursday; the construction started the next day. The majority of the job was completed by 2 workers, but there were various people in and out through the construction. The project crew left trash on the property, damaged trim on our window, damaged our sprinklers and tripped the outdoor power. They never said a word to us any of it. Tripping the power caused the sprinklers not to work for a week. A simple discussion could have rectified that easily...oh yeah, if the project coordinator was on site he could have let us know. We understand that accidents happen, but it would have been common courtesy to advise us of the situation, along with a game plan to fix it. The deck itself is beautiful and the workmanship seems to be high quality. We are very happy with the end product and hope to enjoy it for years to come. I'd recommend the product and the company with caution. The Owner Stew and Project Manager/Scheduler Richard were both extremely professional and accommodating; they rectified our complaints in a timely fashion without issue. The genuinely seemed interested in ensuring our satisfaction. I wouldn't recommend Greg the salesperson, he will promise you the moon and the stars the he will deny things he told you then ultimately pull a disappearing act. He gets an F-. If he calls you, request a different sales person. What could have been an outstanding experience turned out to be frustrating and stressful, that worked out in the end. The two F's I gave in my review were for the sales person, F for responsiveness, F for professionalism.

I selected this company based largely upon customer ratings, and they were not wrong. They did an excellent job, in one day removing and replacing 280 linear feet of pool and yard fence. They cleaned up properly after the job was done. My only complaint was the three week delay in the work from the projected start date, apparently due to rain that interfered with other jobs before mine. The communication could have been better. But the price was right, and the job well done. I'd hire them again.

First let me say, if I was just reviewing the quality of the finished product, the review would be 4-5 stars. I have a beautiful deck and a very nice fence. The materials were good quality and the subcontractors were great. However, most of my dealings with the company left a bad taste in my mouth and I can't recommend them overall. As you will see, it would have taken very little action on their part to make me a happy customer, so it's especially frustrating that the owner fails to see the part his company's policies play in how they are perceived. To start, I had an inexperienced and, as it turns out, incompetent sales person "D". He screwed up the contract at least 5 times (including incorrect measurements, impossible stair elevations, etc), and the project was delayed about a month because of this. I asked him numerous times to A) send me the CAD drawings of the deck that they were sending to the permitting office so I could double check them and B) to either get me a better fence drawing or walk and mark the fence line with me. I never got either, just a lot of excuses and calls he wouldn't return. I was not the only one he didn't call back and Deck & Fence fired him (without telling me) a week before my materials were delivered. In fact, I texted him to say that I was happy the materials were there and he texted back Yay! It wasn't until the next day or two that the new salesperson "C" called to say that D had been fired and he was now my guy. By then the crew was already working and I was just so relieved that everything was underway, even if it was a full 4 weeks after the target date they had set. The fence went up in a day, and when I came home I saw that they had put one end of it against the house in an awkward way that was going to make it really hard to manage both a downspout and a yard drain (I intended to get them both to drain away from the foundation just as soon as the fence was done). It was this sort of issue I had wanted to prevent by getting either good drawings (I had lousy ones) or a clear marking of the fenceline. I asked C to come out to take a look, and as it happened the deck guys had finished the day before he came out so we could look at both issues (the deck builders were awesome, by the way, but subcontractors). This is a big deck - 11' high and 42' long. I knew there would be disruption to the ground and that it wouldn't look pristine underneath when they were done. What I didn't expect was that each post (and there are maybe 12) would have an 18" mound of dirt around it!! I asked the subcontractors before they left - what are those mountains of dirt and who is going to remove them? They said the company requires them to leave it, and they have no choice - that they experienced some settling in the past and now require these enormous mounds of dirt at each post. It looks terrible, that's the upshot, and in 6 months when settling has finished (and the mounds are - what, 3 inches lower?) I can't imagine having the strength to move hundreds of pounds of hardened clay. Also if it pours hard I know they will just kind of sag onto the lawn. When I pointed this out to C, the replacement salesman, he agreed that they didn't look great, and went back to talk to the owner about the mounds and the fence blocking my drainage options. The owner refused to consider helping even though he hadn't seen the pictures that C took. He said the mounds were discussed in the contract and it was my problem if I didn't like them (I have since re-read the contract and I see no mention of leaving 18" mounds at each post. All it says is that the lawn will be disturbed which of course it was). Same with the fence - it was consistent with the (crude) drawings, so everything was on me - he had no interest in the crappy job that D had done. C offered to help me with it all if I got him business from my neighbors but honestly these dealings left a lousy feeling, and I couldn't really recommend a company that treats its customers like this. I will spend the money getting someone to dig under the fence to solve the awkward drainage issue, and to remove the dirt I am not strong enough to manage. It is a shame to spend as much as a new car on a project and have such unpleasant feelings about the company you chose.

The whole project was about $6,000, I think. We can?t rate for the quality because it hasn?t been built yet. We live in a condo and we have to get for it approved by the HOA. The gentleman that came out was very punctual and thorough. He explained to us our options.

We signed the contract in March, handed them a check for 33% and were told that the time-frame on the contract (5-7 weeks) would be 2 weeks quicker because we don't have any HOA that needs to approve the plan. We were happy to pay a premium for these guys in exchange for having the deck completed in time for a Cinco de Mayo/Kentucky Derby party. Despite multiple attempts to contact them to confirm schedule throughout April, no one could tell us a start date. The office told us that we were in the "Waiting for HOA Approval" pile, which really frustrated us, considering we don't HAVE AN HOA. It's now May 11 and we still do not have a date when our deck will be installed. Party was cancelled and we're watching the spring season fly by. They missed the verbal date by 2 weeks and counting and are now closing in on the contractually-bound date. To start over with the low bidder at this point is tough, because their crews are 2 months out, so we're in a tight spot, not to mention that they didn't waste any time cashing that deposit check! Hopefully soon I'll be able to update this review with a comment on the quality of final product, but I have no idea when that'll actually happen! Update: After speaking with an Owner of the company, we learned that our salesperson no longer works for them and had relayed incorrect information to us. Unfortunately, the timing of the deck installation (3-5 weeks) that was explained to us during the sale was unattainable even in a best-case scenario. It seems as though we were lead down a path with an aggressive salesman trying to close the deal by telling us what we wanted to hear without a clear understanding of the company policy and current work backlog. I suspect this disconnect is the reason he is no longer with the company and unfortunately we were a victim of this circumstance. Our final inspection took place 10 weeks and 3 days after we signed the contract. As promised, I'm updating the review now that the work is complete and the deck is finished. After dealing with an Owner for a few phone calls to try to figure if/when this project would happen and agreeing to give them an opportunity to complete the work, we were passed to a Project Manager. Both the Owner and PM were very clear communicators and were careful to outline new expectations as to not repeat the past mistakes that had left them with a frustrated customer in the first place. The crew that showed up to build the deck were courteous, respectful, hard-working and clearly qualified. They worked over the weekend to make up a weather day or two and got the entire thing done in under two weeks. The quality of the deck is good and the installation is solid and looks like it will be here for as long as the house. Outside of a few screws and scraps that I had to clean up afterwards and a bit of dead grass, it was as smooth as could be expected.

We had a great experience with Deck & Fence. Joe came out to Boyds, Maryland and had an reasonable estimation of cost for our deck, moreover, he also had good suggestions and seemed to know all about the county rules for decks. We had three different companies came to give out quotes for the deck and we picked Deck & Fence because they were fast, responsible and reasonable. The deck was built actually early than we expected due to a cancellation they said. The team who built the deck was excellent, very handy and meticulous. Our deck was done beautifully and professionally. There was a problem about one board was split because of an angle of a nail happened sometimes after the deck was built, we called Joey and it was fixed a few days right away. We would recommended Deck & Fence and Joe, they are excellent!

Love It! Joe Dembeck and his crew were amazing. Joe spent many hours with us discussing the materials, time frame for completion and worked with us through the entire process. He answered emails and phone calls promptly. Darwin was the lead in the construction and he was great as was the other gentlemen I just don't remember their names. Friendly and such great craftsman. Can't wait to start decorating. Would work with Joe and his crew anytime! Maybe a patio in the future!

For as long as I can recall, my wife and I had been longing to replace the deck on our home. Being so small (10’ x 12’) it was often difficult to entertain family members. In order to stay comfortable on hot summer days, we used a retractable awning. This provided temporary relief, but was a nuisance to maintain. It also failed to offer adequate shelter during rain storms. There was no protection against insects either. We would be forced to lather up with bug repellent in order to stay outside. Our ultimate desire was to enjoy the outdoors in a something which offered much more space and structural integrity…a screened in deck. Not knowing the best way to begin searching for a contractor, we turned to “Angie’s List”. That’s where we discovered the Deck & Fence Company of Millersville, MD. In early September, 2016, we contacted Mr. Joseph Dembeck. Joe was amazing. He was extremely knowledgeable and thoroughly explained the pros & cons associated with different types of building materials. Moreover, he was so patient. Deciding on a deck size, floor plan, roofing material, etc., is a massive challenge. Joe expertly guided us though each phase of the process. During our initial meeting, he spent nearly six hours at our house carefully going over measurements, styles, colors and options until we felt completely satisfied with the choices. Joe was always there for us when we had questions; even on the weekends. He promptly answered our questions by either returned calls or answering our text messages. The two member construction crew arrived in early November, led by Darwin…the team leader. Darwin and his coworker were simply outstanding. They are the hardest workers I’ve ever seen. The project was completed the week before Thanksgiving. My wife and I can’t be more pleased with the end result. The new screened in deck exceeds our expectations in every way. We have nothing but praise for the Deck & Fence Company, and especially Mr. Dembeck and Darwin’s professionalism. The only remaining work to be done is the decorating and furniture, we can hardly wait for spring to arrive.

From the time of estimate, to the finished product, this project went off without a hitch. We had an old deck (16X24) removed and new patio with a small 4x7 deck installed. The crew arrived each day on time and worked until early evening. I have no complaints and would use this company again. There was a small deficiency observed by the county inspector at final inspection but it was resolved quickly. Another thing that impressed us was when the crew left each night they cleaned the driveway with a leaf blower! That was a nice touch and much appreciated.

David, our deck consultant, went out of his way to make sure we knew all our options, thoroughly inspecting the frame so we would not have any surprises. He visited us twice and offered us a price that was fair and competitive. After we signed the contract, we were turned over to production handled all the particulars from billing to scheduling the work. Installation was perfect. The deck is beautiful and the crew paid meticulous attention to the details, ensuring that the deck was perfect in every way. I was very pleased to see that they lightly sanded the edges of the rails to create a very nice edge.

Everything went great and was done on time. I would definitely use this company again. Joe Dembeck was very understanding and had a great design for our budget.

We could not be happier with the results! Joe Dembeck was great in listening to what we wanted, keeping within our budget and not giving us any pressure. The Deck and Fence Company LLC was very good about communicating when things were going to happen and what was going to be done. We had several other bids, but Deck and Fence was the only company we felt confident using. They were not the cheapest, but they were not the most expensive either. They did however, seem the most professional and most competent. Once we talked to Joe, we could tell how the other contractors were going to cut corners. We also didn't feel pressured into using Deck and Fence. It is stressful enough finding a company, researching that company and then sifting through the data. Deck and Fence was very straightforward. They were also the only company that brought samples out the first visit. That helped us in getting an accurate quote upfront and visualizing the end product.

We began with a very detailed consultation appointment where we discuss different options to fit our town home. Joe was the consultant who visited our home he was very professional knowledgeable and friendly. He provided us with information on helping us make an informed decision and what was best for our family needs and budget. We had already had to choir consultations with two different companies . The other companies did not match the service and expertise that Joe provided us. We decided to go with the Deck and Fence Company .The crew arrived to build the fence at the expected date they were punctual hard-working and polite. The following week we our deck built project was ready to begin. Once again the crew came out punctual and ready to go. They were hard-working dedicated and polite. The final products look amazing! We would highly recommend the Deck and Fence company to friends and neighbors!
