Gutter Helmet by Lednor Home Solutions

When we bought this house in 2006, one of the selling features was that it had Gutter Helmet and we'd never have to clean the gutters again. When we called to have them serviced, they said the previous owners did not transfer the warranty so it was null and void. I was OK with that and asked if they still serviced their product, which I knew I'd be paying for, and the reply was "yes". An appointment was set up for 7/8/11 @ 11am. I was impressed that they didn't give me a time window - an exact 11am was given - I was told Chris would be here @ 11am - their quote "he is never late". Well, here it is 7/19/11 and I'm still waiting for this "on-time Chris". After 2 hours of waiting on 7/8/11, I called to see where Chris was. The lady I spoke with said something wasn't right because she had in her schedule that he was coming on 7/3/11, which was a Sunday - right away, she said that couldn't be right, as they don't come out on Sunday. She said she'd call me right back - again, it is 7/19/11 and I'm still waiting. When nobody called, I called again and left a voice mail message. There has been no reply from Gutter Helmet to date. It is obvious to me that Gutter Helmet is NOT interested in servicing their product (which is not performing as the ads claim) even though I would have been paying since the warranty no longer applied.

They normally schedule about seven months out because they're backed up. You don't have to be there when they do the work. We weren't there, but the professionalism of the sales pitch was good. The work looked really good. We have only had one rain since they did the work. They bring the product to you and explain how it helps the woodwork on your house. They give you a history of how and why it was designed. They also have a lifetime guarantee that adds value to the house. They could go a little lower on the price, but they have a bit of a monopoly because they have a patent. He was there when he said he would be there.

It went well. We decided to go with another company though. We appreciated that they were on Angie's List, but the other company had better house keeping field and we thought that was pretty important to have.

I just joined Angies list to look for contractors to replace my 1988 roof. Looking around on the site I saw Gutter Helmet. They work great for me so I thought I'd share. A neighbor recommend Gutter Helmet to me after I tried several things and they work great. After several tries of different gutter covers, I found the Gutter Helmet brand to be the one that really worked for me long term. When we built our house in the woods in 1988. I kept as many trees all around it as possible. Lot of leaves, nuts, tree seeds, tulip buds and squirrels storing things in my gutters. Although its been while since I got them, they stopped my gutter clogging problem. Normally I'm a do it your-selfer and have tried the screens and then tried the hardware/building supply store types that slide under the shingle and then a gutter cover contractor install found at a homeshow. None of these worked well and I was still cleaning gutters. Over all I'm very pleased with them. Sometimes I get ice cycles, but I got them before with all the other covers I tried before the Gutter Helmet Brand. Now that I'm retired and on a fixed income, I think of all the money I wasted on other covers. I certainly recommend that anyone thinking of gutter covers to investigate this brand as recommended to me by my neighbor. Looking back, I wish I did.

Our first big rain was today and they work just like they said they would. They provided a great guarantee and I don't think I'll ever have to worry about my gutters again. I'm thrilled.

We had a salesman come to the house to give us an estimate. We had pretty much decided we would go with their product before we even called them to the house provided their estimate was reasonable. Unfortunately, we still had to sit through an hour long "hard sell" process. Pretty much a waste of our time. In any case, we went with them mainly because a friend of mine used them and really liked the product and because they said they would schedule us within 3 weeks instead of their normal 6 to 8 weeks due to the flooding problems we were experiencing in the house as a result of our old gutters. The reason we haven't given them a higher rating is because we have had to call them 4 times since the initial install to come out and complete the job! There were two sections of gutter that the workers did not replace in the back of the house. They FINALLY came yesterday (one month after their initial visit) to finish the job. Even then, they replaced only one old section and left the second one there. Sheesh! In addition, the woman who answers their service line sounds as though she would rather be doing ANYTHING else but talking to you when you call. We really hope these gutters work well this winter so we can justify the cost and all the time we have spent trying to get them back out to our house to finish what they started.

They did a good job. They were professional and efficient.

The workers were expert and efficient. The installation went smoothly. The job was obviously something they've done many times before. My problem is that the Gutter Helment system just does not perform as expected and am therefore highly disappointed. After two years experience with heavy and light rainfall events, I can say this with confidence. I had the GH system installed because it was necessary to reduce my home maintenance chores. After suffering a major loss of eyesight in an accident, it was important to find a way to keep the gutters clear without having to go on the roof or use ladders. Unfortunately, in order for the GH system to work properly, I now have to spend more time on gutter maintenance than I used to and the work required is much more dangerous. That is because the GH system works only if it is very clean. In my case, that means powerwashing the system and/or handscrubbing it with a detergent and bleach solution at least 4 times each year. Even then it's performance is not ideal as it will not handle a severe intensity rainfall event when water simply cascades over the GH. GH representatives came to my home after I reported the system did not work as expected. They pointed out that leaves and tree debris (e.g. pollen) accumulate on the roof and therefore also on the GH system which prevented it from working. The GH system must be clear and very clean (no dirt or dust!) for its "surface tension" approach to collecting water can work. I was told then, months after the installation, that all this "junk" had to be removed periodically and the Gutter Helmet surface scrubbed and openings cleared so the GH system could function properly. If you have a treeless lot, you might not have the same challenges as me. This seems obvious now, but the GH sales and installation people never pointed this out. On the other hand, you would not need a GH system if there were no leaves or debris to prevent getting into your gutters. Right? The contractors have been out to inspect and adjust the system. I believe they have done their best to satisfy my concerns. But the end result is that the Gutter Helment system does NOT reduce the need for gutter maintenance. I requested and was denied my money back. Also -the GH system failed completely with heavy rain even when recently cleaned. I paid a premium for what I believed to be the best system for reducing my dangerous gutter maintenance chores, but got more work instead. Save your money. Avoid Gutter Helmet.

Installation was fine but they simply don't work in the winter. The surface cohesion principle does not work with ice--and this is regardless of the heavy 2009-10 snows. Gutter froze over, water could not travel down the gutter spouts, over flowed, flooded the ground underneath my brick side walk, destroying it. Sidewalk Replacement cost: $3000. Turns out you need Harry's Heating Element as well. Having already invested in the system, we had no choice. But they simply don't care about you after sale--even when you are trying to buy additional items (like heat). Called for an estimate in April-tech came out in June. Left an illegible door tag. Took me awhile to track down a manager and they had no idea what their guy was taking about either. Another tech came out a few weeks later. Left another door tag. Said Heat could not be added for lack of gutter spouts whereby the AC line travels down. Called Dina then Wayne at GH HQ. I did not understand why we could not add heat. Either could Dina or Wayne. Two weeks later, they said heat could be added but the tech got the configuration wrong. I needed to heat only a 4 ft section orthogonal to another 4 ft section above the new walkway. Tech (#3) came out and did not realize the orthoginal elements were not continguous nor did he realize they each had their own down spout (which Gutter Helmet requires they install themselves so still scratching my head on that one). I'm stuck--I can't have another walkway destroyed. First verbal estimate was $1800 for ALL the house gutters--for just the section I wanted (20% of the entire gutter system), it was $1400. You also need an a GFI electrical circuit outside for the cord to plug into. Gutter Helmet refused to do just the two 4 foot section purportedly for engineering reasons I can't figure out--after all, only one of my 4 masters is in Astronautucal Engineering and I guess ny Aeronautical Engineering Bachelor's did not cover enough transboundary viscous flow theory. Still stuck so asked for an estimate. Have been waiting a month for a written estimate for the real system we eventually agreed to--a 20' section (16' of which I do not need) and the separate 4' section. Have heard nothing. So will have GH replaced with flip gutters over the critical sections and suffer 2-4' icicles around the rest of the house. Bottomline folks: the system does not work in the winter and these people simply do not care about you after they make the initial sale--even with a $1200 carrot--imagine if you did not even have that. Nor do I think they understand anything regarding the engineering of their system.

I think they did a good job. The communication between the sales rep and home office was a little bit lacking, but he made up for it after the fact by doing a good job and communicating better afterward.

I contracted last year to have Gutter Helmets put over my gutters. I was given two quotes - one for complete replacement of my existing copper gutter + Gutter Helmets and the other for just the Gutter Helmets. The quote for just the Gutter Helmets was just under $4000 of which 1/3 was paid at signing. This is quite expensive but it was sold to me as a premium product. I also found the company on Angie's List where they were well rated. As part of the sales process I was shown a web page that claimed the product, "Gutter Helmet is precision-engineered to work well in heavy snowfalls. Gutter Helmet has been proven on thousands of homes in the heavy snow-load regions of Canada, New York, Minnesota and New England states." The initial installation was in November but they had to come back twice more as the seaming and leveling of my existing gutters as specified in the contract had not been performed. There were obvious leaks in the gutter seams that the first crew did not caulk at all and the existing gutters were clearly not level in the rear but no action was taken until I called. They claimed the installation was complete as of the Dec 15 visit, but the Gutter Helmets detached and fell off in the front and rear of the house in the big snow storm in Feb. I have still paid only 1/3 and am in dispute with Gutter Helmet who refuses to take responsibility claiming the product was successfully installed. The detaching Gutter Helmets also caused damage to my existing gutters and I am currently without a functioning gutter system. They are only willing to make repairs at additional cost after the initial amount is paid. This is either a faulty product that does not perform as sold to me or was misinstalled (quite possible given the initial sloppy work). I filed a complaint with the Maryland Home Improvement Commision and after review am entitled to file for compensation from a general fund, but they have no power to settle the monetary dispute with the company which may end up in court. I will likely have to pay a good lawyer and get a civil engineer to inspect and testify if it comes to that.

Did not use them because of their restrictive requirements

They are fine for us. We have been happy with them. It is difficult to get them to come here in Virginia, but they did a good job overall.

They helped us out very nicely. They solved our problems.

Everything has been good so far but this will be our first fall since they came. They were very efficient as far as coming and measuring so that everything worked when they installed it. Everything fit and it was all measured correctly.

The biggest problem I had with Gutter Helmet was them not keeping appointments and then when I called to complain, the people at Gutter Helmet seemed to try and blame me. I took leave from work to be here for some of these appointments, only for them not to show up. Very frustrating. This is an expensive product. There are other gutter companies out there. Shop around.

They did a great job. They were very professional but a bit expensive. They were very quick and everything is fine until now.

I WOULD NEVER USE OR RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY AGAIN.

I believe I over paid for this service, however everything went well until I came home from work at the end of the installation day and found an envelope on my door, "Things You Should Know". It basically told me that they were guaranteed never to clog, BUT I would need to always see that they were clean from any type of debris or the system may not work properly. To me, that meant that I need to get up there and clean them off. So, instead of climbing the ladder to clean out the gutters, now I only have to climb the ladder to wash them off several times a year. Nice of them to let me know the information AFTER installation.

The work was fine and professional. The work was also neat. They were here when they said they would be.

I thought Gutter Helmets was expensive, but very good. They came sooner than they said they would. We didn't even see them at our home. I think their product is good, and I don't know if there is anything better. People kept stopping by to say how wonderful our gutter helmets were. So far so good with them. They were very good about cleaning up after themselves. They are guaranteed for life.

It went very well. They were quick. They finished within a day. They did have to come back and fix a piece. They did so right away. They stuck to the price quote. They were accommodating. We needed advice regarding drainage and gutter placement. They assisted in placing the rain barrels. The only draw back was that they did not let us know that they were dropping off the material. It still went very well.

We liked the reputation that they had. They offered an excellent warranty. They were easy to communicate with them. Their estimate was lower than some other companies. They did not leave anything behind.

This company was punctual and professional in their work. They did a good job of cleaning up. They made sure that the colors matched. I would recommend them.

I'd researched what I wanted and called the company to get a price. They sent a very competent but hard core salesman. I had to interrupt several times and ask for him to get to the bottom line.... don't like working with sales people like that. But he soon understood and gave me a price. When I protested the cost he reduced the price to one I thought competitive. I didn't have to be there for the installation. The job was completed in one day and the workers cleaned up what mess they made. The gutter helmet product works exactly as I'd hoped.
