Description of Work: Sprung a leak in the cold water line to our 1st floor toilet last night. I shut off the main to the house and called Putnam. We were offered emergency service, but elected to save the money and wait till they opened at 8am. Marlene called as soon as they opened and sent Matt out immediately. Matt did an excellent job replacing the line first thing this morning and got our water back on.

Upon entering our home, they put on shoe covers and made certain that anywhere they were doing work was appropriately protected from possible spills/leaks by using floor coverings. They did a tag team approach to our repairs getting things done in record time. They explained everything in detail and marked all of our pipe shut-off valves in the basement explaining everything to me and my wife. They truly went the extra mile to ensure we were satisfied with the work they performed and were responsive to new challenges we threw at them during their visit. I would highly recommend them in the future and I plan to use them for all of our home plumbing needs.

 + 0 moreService was outstanding. The technician arrived on time. He tested the old water heater and showed me that the bottom element was burned out. He explained my options to me, and reviewed all prices. When I opted for the larger size water heater (80 gallon instead of 50 gallon), the technician sent his assistant to pick up the larger model. A great thing about Putman is that they travel with a very well stocked truck. They had everything they needed to handle any contingencies on the truck, so there was no problem with fittings such as odd angle copper lines. They had everything they needed to do the job correctly. They removed the old water heater, installed the new water heater, and reran all the feed and discharge lines, as well as installed the expansion tank (correcting a defective original expansion tank installation). I will use Putnam for all my future plumbing needs. They were outstanding, and the quick response after a natural disaster was truly appreciated. Pricing was slightly higher than might be available elsewhere, but they only work with the best products. Pricing was in line with the quality of the tank.
Description of Work: Our water heater burned up when our basement flooded during Hurricane Sandy. I called Putnam's at 6:00 AM, expecting to leave a message. Instead, one of the principals answered the phone and made an appointment for 8:30 that same morning. The technician arrived on time to replace my water heater. It took longer than anticipated because I changed my mind on the size of water heater I wanted, and they had to go to a warehouse to pick up the larger size. The installed the larger water heater and hauled away the burned out water heater.

Description of Work: We had nine separate, small plumbing projects. These included installing a new kitchen faucet, new garbage disposal, new filtering system for kitchen sink, repairing several toilets, fixing a shower faucet and two sink faucets, etc. Scott and his assistant were running late on our appointed day, but we got several calls from Putman keeping us informed of the delay and the ETA. When they got here, late in the afternoon, they went right to work examining each job. They adjusted a running toilet right away and didn't charge for that at all. Scott then presented me with a written statement of how much each of the other items would cost. These fees are not insignificant; for most of the bigger ones the price was around $180. There was no discount or consolidation of fees because they were already here, and maybe that is the one thing I find fault with, since $180 to fix a faucet is OK if they make a service call just for that, but it seems some accommodation could be made with several small jobs on one call. Anyway, we agreed to the price, and they started immediately. As they encountered problems, they solved each one. A problem toilet we have needs a special flush ball. I had an extra one; it didn't work. THEY had an extra one; IT didn't work! They finally found a third or fourth one out in their truck, and that one does work. The same was true of our fussy Moen faucet cartridges, and a stubborn sink drain: when they encountered a problem, they figured it out quickly, and their truck was an almost endless resource of parts. They were here until after 8 PM and promised to come back the next day after they got one more part that was (amazingly!) not on their truck. Sure enough, they came back as agreed, and were done in five minutes. Scott also told me to call them immediately if anything develops a problem. They stand by their work. My impression is that Putman is a VERY professional outfit. Scott is the son of the founder and Scott is just terrific. You can tell he is a master plumber. He and Ryan did each task very efficiently and didn't stop until it was perfect. They test everything thoroughly and clean up completely. When I felt that the kitchen hose faucet was a bit too long and was catching on things under the sink. Scott agreed and shortened it to a perfect length. I liked the way he installed the new filtering system, so that I can easily reach in to change the cartridge. He also showed me the cartridge problems upstairs and explained exactly how you must install them in the future. So, all in all, it was a very good experience and I would trust Scott to be able to tackle virtually any plumbing problem. Although I think their price schedule is pretty high, you do get what you pay for, and we got nine perfect jobs done by these fine professionals. I will call them again, without a doubt.

They showed up ontime, made thorough inspection and explained everything clearly. The made the repairs and identified potential other problems (older copper pipes and pinhole leaks). Scott and his team where fabulous! We are very pleased to find a local plumber with great review and reputation. Allows us as homeowners to have piece of mind for all of our plumbing needs.
Description of Work: Inspected for leak problem; identified leak from improperly installed toilet (not installed by them). Also inspected entire house (new house for us) and identified another toilet that would have potentially same problem. Repaired both toilets.

We were so impressed by his professionalism, knowledge, and promptness, that we hired Putman to replace our water pressure tank. I would highly recommend Putman to anyone in the Frederick area. Our house is over 50 years old, and as you can imagine, we have had required the use of many, many plumbers over the 12 years that we have owned the house. This is the first plumber that we would use and again. We are so happy to have found a plumber that we can rely on. Give them a call (the office staff are also wonderful to work with).

 + -1 moreBooking the service is easy and they tried to accomedate my request for a specific date. They called 30 min in advance to let me know that they were on the way. The technican arrived on time to perform the inspection. I was told the faucet need to be dissembled and rebuilt. After I gave the consent, the technican went ahead with the repair and get it done perfectly.BTW, the technican is really professional. He is dressed in uniform, drove a company truch. He even brought a floor mat with company logo to make sure his shoe was wiped before entering the house. They also have a price book clearly listing the price for any kinds of services they can provide. After he is done with the repair, he inspected all the other faucets as well as the heater. The service is excellent and I will definitely call them for any future plumbing issues.

Scott quickly diagnosed the problem and gave me a written estimate for augering both drains. When he augered the floor drain, it also unclogged the shower drain, so he only charged me for the one. The total price includes $50 for drain treatment powder that he suggested I use to prevent problems in the future. Great service, great price. I intend to keep them as my regular plumber.

 + 0 moreHad Putman out to replace a water that broke over the weekend. Called their emergency line, which is a call service, and they called me back soon after. I think the call service is a generic system that handles many businesses because they didn't know anything about the business other than passing a message along. Since the water heater I wanted wasn't available until Monday I set up an appointment for early that Monday. Family outfit who are very professional and clearly have pride in doing quality work. I spent time peppering the person installing the water heater with questions and he was friendly, knowledgeable. They also really care about keeping your house clean. Standard booties everyone is wearing now plus booties on the hand truck tires they used to haul out the old heater and in the new one. Tarps everywhere. Class outfit to say the least I don't know if the price was competitive since I wasn't able to price anyone else over the weekend. They quoted me a price then afterward wanted to charge a service call. I didn't fight it but they took it off after the fact anyway. I think there was some miscommunication between the person who quoted me the price originally and the person writing up the ticket after the work was done. Great experience. They are my go to plumbers now.

 + -1 moreThey had advertised a 20% on having your hot water heater flushed. Since we had never had this done before, I called to find out how much it costs to perform this. The lady that answered was very short and curt stating that she would have to have a technician come out and advise me on the price for it. I thought this was rather odd, considering they have this as an advertised special and she couldn't even give me a ballpark price range. Hmmmm, not liking the sound of that too much. Seems like a pretty cut and dry job to perform hence, a simple price quote would have satisfied me. Her attitude on the phone was not very pleasant, maybe they don't really need the business too bad. Who knows?! I declined having a technician sent to out to quote this as I just simply wasn't feeling too warm and fuzzy from the attitude as well as the lack of willingness to provide a ballpark price quote. Again, THEY had this advertised as a 20% special. The second and separate phone call that I made to them (deciding to give them the benefit of the doubt--maybe this was an off day for the company's customer service or lack thereof) was to get a price quote on having a shut off valve installed on our refrigerator's water line. Again, the customer service that was provided on the phone was with attitude and no pleasantness at all. Once again, a price quote for this was out of the question without sending a technician out for a fee. No thanks. Unfortunately, we will no longer attempt to patronize Putman. Simply put, it was just the lack of pleasantry when asking for assistance and information. Nor did I like the general vagueness on not being able to provide price quotes on rather simple, uncomplicated jobs. A rough ballpark price would have been fine, but I guess that is just not an option. We ended up calling another local company who was happy to send someone out the next day for a free price quote. Ultimately, we performed the job ourselves after a little bit of research and about $15 in parts. Yay us.
Description of Work: Had two different requests: wanted to get an estimate on having our hot water tank flushed/drained, and the second request was to get an estimate on having a turnoff valve placed on our water line that leads to our refrigerator.

 + -1 moreWe have used Putman Plumbing several times and will continue to do so, because a reliable, honest plumber is not always easy to find and this company has proven itself to us more than once. The most recent work we needed them for was to fix a pinhole leak in one of our copper pipes in between the ceiling of our first floor and the floor of our 2nd floor. They came right away and were very neat with the hole they needed to cut into our ceiling to get to the leak. We have had them other times for toilets, faucets and other leaky pipes. All of their work has been top notch and their customer service stellar. But the honesty part came out one time when several weeks after they were here for some reason and I had already paid them in full with a credit card. I received a call from them that there was a mistake with my billing. I thought they were going to ask for more money, but no, they called to tell me that the serviceman had used a price from the wrong line and we had overpaid. They wanted to let me know that they credited my credit card the difference. I would never had known. They could have never mentioned it, but they did, and they won my loyalty with that deed.

 + -1 moreOur hot water hearter went out and poured water all over our laundry room, living room and hall floor. Putman helped us move the washer/dryer out of the way to get to the water heater, found the problem, pulled out the old water heater. He also worked well with the cleanup crew the insurance company sent and allowed them to pull up the floor and pull off the baseboard and the walls and then Putman got in and installed the new water heater.

 + 0 moreOverall the service was outstanding. They were responsive (same day) and professional. Standing by their word, they told me I could call them if the desired effects weren't achieved and they would come back and fix it until it was right.
Description of Work: Serviceman arrived, evaluated the problem, and fixed it on the spot. My water softener had been serviced in the past, and since had only produced harder and harder water. It turns out there was an incorrect setting, but Putnam still ran a thorough review of the entire system. It is obvious to me that the staff at Putnam take pride in their company, and make every attempt to prove it with their work.
