I received a quote from Doug Brown (owner's brother) from this address, listed as business name TDI. According to internet research, it appears that there are multiple businesses operating from this address in addition to Homes America Group, including American Energy Consultants and American Windows and Doors. This review is for TDI. We gave Doug keys to our home to get a start on the project while we were traveling, (Yes, we did this. It is embarrassing that we were so naive and trusting) in hopes that the project would be near-finished (as promised) upon our return, as we only have one bathroom. He cashed a $1,000 retainer check the day we left (despite the fact that we had provided most of the materials for the job, including the tub, tiles, and grout) and emailed to say he would start the project the following day and send pictures. That was the last email we received from him during our trip. Doug did not reach out to us again until we returned home, at which time he responded to a text about the state of the bathroom with, "get ready at a friend?s . . . I'm a day behind . . .? We were shocked at the state of our bathroom and home upon our return. In addition to being left unexpectedly without a functioning sink, shower, tub or toilet, the floor tiles had been installed in little hills on the floor, atop plywood instead of concrete board (as discussed), and the wall tiling hadn?t been started. In the interest of only stating facts and not my opinions, I'll list other highlights below: · A leak occurred during the renovation which was obviously left unattended for an extended amount of time, damaging a wall in the kitchen below and leaking into the basement (water was still dripping when we returned.) · The contractors had removed the plastic we put down on the floor and tracked plaster and thin-set onto the carpeting. Our bath towels had been used to install the floor tiles. · Construction waste (walls of tiles, plaster, tools, buckets of concrete, multiple bags of trash, etc.) were left scattered in our back yard, front yard, on every floor of the house and on our rear parking spot. · Our newly-refinished claw-foot tub received 4 deep, visible scratches, and paint was scraped off the banister leading up the stairs · Our crock-pot (which was in the kitchen) was broken (not a huge expense, but just to give you an idea of how carelessly things were handled.) · Keys to our home were shared with people we?d never met, and as a result we have had to change all of our locks When we initially spoke to Doug (in person) he agreed that he?d been unable to complete the project as hoped. He promised to pay for all the floor tiles that were ruined even if he had to pay ?out of his own pocket.? He asked us to put together what we thought was a fair offer, and we would come to a neighborly agreement. We did so, and suggested that he return $500 of the initial retainer (which was for two projects, one of which was never started.) Under the circumstances, I feel it is a generous offer, as all of the ?work? done in the home will have to be redone, in addition to additional work and damages. We also asked for the $500 to replace the floor tiles as promised. Needless to say, he changed his mind about coming to a neighborly agreement and about paying for the tiles that will need to be replaced. When I finally reached him today (calling from a different number) he suggested that he and his crew did a lot of work and that he doesn?t have time to document what exactly they did and the costs associated. He is not planning on refunding any of our money, and I was told that my lawyer should contact his lawyer if I disagree. We returned from vacation two weeks ago and I have been showering at a friend's house since then. Our sink is hooked up to hot water only (it was working fine before) and we had to find a contractor to hook up our toilet until he is able to redo the entire project. Doug has not accepted any responsibility for his failure to execute the project, nor offered so much as an apology for the stress and inconvenience he caused. I would not recommend this company. I will leave it to your discretion whether you would trust another business operating from the same home address.
