I seriously overpaid for the amount and the quality of the work done. Attention to detail was poor and, though they came back to finish work that had not been done, they were not gracious in dealing with my complaints.

It was negative. They did completed the job. But when Joseph Beringer came with the perposel He said it will take one day. But when the painter arrived, They said it will take three days. They were not informed of the height of the ceiling and walls. They did not know how large the room was. They started on the 18th. It took them two hours to get the paint and a bigger ladder. He was lated second and third day. The fourth day he stay 1 hour, because of family emergency. The fifth (Friday) , he came back for final touches and stay 1 hour and 30 minutes. While doing the job, they scratch hardwood floor, they broke a piece off the headboard, they drop paint in the master bathroom. It looks like it will come up. The never told me about it. When I point it out they scratch the wood. The foreman said they were sorry. I am really disappoint with the manager. He should've know how long it would take to do an area.

University Painters was great! Amanda Wilhelm was very responsive and always resolved issues satisfactorily. I was very pleased with the final product. Even when I had an issue with something it was resolved quickly and to my total satisfaction. I highly recommend UP and will definitely use them in the future.
Description of Work: I hired UP to paint the whole interior of my home and the additional sun room that was newly completed. I hired them about a year ago when I was selling my home and recently to paint our new home.

They've done the whole house in the past. They had to repair some trim outside. We've had them here about 3 times. The employees are fine. The biggest complaint about their employees is sometimes their English is a bit lacking because most of them are central Americans.
Description of Work: We have used University Painters for exterior painting. They also did minor repairs.

DAY 1 So on Thursday of the start of the job the painters (2 of them) were late. They were supposed to between 8 and 9. I got a call at 930 that they were on their way. When they got here and I go over as much as I could think of...colors, where and what, remove faceplates, etc. I forgot to mention what type of paint I want (flat, semi-gloss, etc) and after about 2 hours the painters said they were going to get the paint (actually never asking what type I liked/wanted). They left and never returned. I did not receive a call that they weren't not coming back or if they were coming back in the morning. The walls (especially in the dining room) need lots of prep work (definitely more then two hours worth). Right before the painters left the carpenters came to do all the moldings (measuring, purchasing, installing) they were at the house until about 630 and finished installation. They did not fill the holes or caulk but they mentioned the painters would do that (actually later the painters said that carpenters should have done it - I just wanted it done). Carpentry done. DAY 2 After contacting the manager and talking with the lead painter, the two painters returned on Friday. They came about 8:30 and got straight to work. They also had paint with them and it was all flat and semi-gloss -- I wanted eggshell and high-gloss. They kept working on the prep work, after almost a full day (minus 2 hour or so lunch and home depot run), and left about 6:30. They were able to start on some of the trim work. I did have a change in what color to paint what...and that was addressed very well and they complied very nicely. Still prepping and trim work. DAY 3 They were supposed to be here about 9:00 and they showed up (without calling) at 11 ish. The did get right to work. Worked on more of the trim. I mentioned that I noticed the doors were not painted...and they were unaware that they had to paint them as well. So they ended up spending more time on the trim because they had to go back and fix. Mentioned a few times about walls needing to be prepped better (scim coat on a few places). Still prepping and more trim work. DAY 4 Left and said they would call on tuesday. we mentioned that maybe that weekend. Painter showed up on SATURDAY at 10 without confirming. Only one painter showed up. Spent most of the day doing the trim and started with colors on the walls. In dining room the walls at first sight were beautiful until you got up close and all the areas that needed more prep work. Still nail pops in areas and no skim coat on walls, the cracks were showing through. Planned for the following day to continue. DAY 5 - Never showed up. No call. We called and made arrangements for The next day, Monday. DAY 6 - Monday, we called and made plans for him to come and paint. He got their about 10-11 am. Again only one painter showed up. Mentioned all the "bad" areas in the dining room, he skimmed coated much of the walls. Also mentioned that the living room needed another coat. Did most of the walls at least with one coat on all the walls. Did notice that the high spots in the stairwell looked messy. Made plans to return the following day at 9Am. That night I noticed that there were about 6 spots of paint on my light beige carpet and speckles of paint on the wood stairs. DAY 7 - showed up at 9 and got right to work sanding the dining room. Sanded the dining room then started painting. He did not clean up after the sanding, so the entire dining room and floor was covered with dust which he in turn walked over in and out of a few rooms of the house - tracked drywall dust everywhere and in my carpet. At 7:45pm the dry wall dust is still on the floor. Also discovered that the sides of all the trim was painted the wall color instead of the trim color. Again there was a communication issues. I assumed that when I say the ALL the trim = white, I really don't expect only the front facing to be white and the rest is the wall color. The painter is a really nice guy but said he was just going off of what was on the trim before....well it was a flat white wall with glossy white trim. So not sure where he got that idea from maybe it was just the easiest thing to do. Finally cleaned up the dry wall dust but not very well, entire floor and furniture is covered in a dusty film. Finished around 10 pm. all lines on the ceiling are very noticeably messy and not straight. I suggested that he could add a bead of caulk and he thought about continuing and I told him its too late that he would have to come back. He asked for the full payment, and I told him that I do not feel comfortable giving him the entire amount and then not come back. And mainly not giving him the check because officially the job is not complete. He said that we should we could just trust him. Considering he was barely here for the scheduled days and we are now on day 7 - I really don't trust him. I am not giving the entire amount and him never return If you notice that we are now in to DAY 7 of a 2 (maybe 3) day job. I have taken off at least 3 days of work, 1 holiday, and 2 weekend days and we are still not finished. The guy painting is super nice and respectful but not a professional painter. It is a problem if I don't mention something or specifically say do it this way -- I end up with something completely not what I wanted or for that matter what I expected. If he is a professional he should communicate what exactly he is going to do and if any question exist ask me or verify before doing it.
Description of Work: I met with the owner (Dennis Herzog) twice to go over the estimate and exactly what I wanted. Had conversations with him over email a few times and it was not troubling at all. If anything he was trying to calm my fears about getting the painting just right. Mentioned that it would be university painter crew and it would be for the doors, trim, and two coats on all the walls. The quote was for a dining room, living room, hallway, and stairwell with tall ceilings. Carpentry was also included for the dining room (upper trim near crown, and shadow boxes on the bottom), also in the dining room they were to take down the wall paper. In all the rooms they were supposed to patch and sand all the walls and prep for painting. The estimate was for 2 maybe 3 days. I scheduled for a thursday/friday and a possible saturday. I had a change at one point in what I wanted, Dennis came back out and helped me go over what I wanted, at the time very helpful

Lously job, missed a lot of areas. Quoted in contract areas would get 2 coats of paint (hardly), finished in 1 1/2 days. After they finished I used my extersion ladded to check the second floor areas closely. Several areas not done, paint splashed on siding & most of all, some of the Shutters were not painted at all. Back of the house the masonary areas below windows totally skipped, when I inquired, I was told that They were contracted painters, (not University Personnel). Regarding the areas they didn't paint; I was told, "Oh we couldn't get in because of the bushes" if I had been informed of this at the beginning, (first day on my job). I would have trimmed the bushes & shrubs for their access. They splashed paint all over the property & house. Didn't bother to clean after themselves. Still cleaning areas of splashed paint spots. Basically "A Couple of Slobs!!"

I got an email saying who was coming to do the work and then another guy called on another day and said he was the one coming. Mr. Dennis should have called to tell me it would be someone else. I wanted to know for sure who was coming and the guy said “I’m a fat guy so that’s who to look for. I can’t do you any harm.” He gave me his name, but it was a different name than I was given. I told him because of my military background I need to know who he is. He said he didn’t need to come at all. I told him it wasn’t about his appearance; it was about knowing who he was. I decided not to use their service after all. Their introduction is bad. You don’t say that to people you don’t know.

It was awful. They didn't have inspectors here. The guys who came were Mexican subcontractors. They did the same things at my second home. It was my mistake to have them do two houses at one time. They did part of the house with brushes like they were supposed to do and the rest of the it they sprayed. They didn't paint the trim and they got paint on our windows. They stopped and never finished. At the other house they never quite finished. They got paint on the windows. They took razor blades and scratched up 100 year old window, which were hand blown glass. They didn't scrape the old paint off properly. They painted over mold. They were supposed to remove the mold first. It was disaster. In the process while they were here we had doors that were jimmied and things stolen.

After hearing numerous radio ads for this company, we arranged for an estimate. We needed a lot of dry wall fix up and a complete interior paint job.The gentleman who came was very professional, confident and gave us an estimate I considered to be reasonable. The only negative was that they use Sherwin-Williams paint, nearly the lowest rated interior paint by Consumer Reports. Since we have other interior work being done, we have delayed a decision for now but will probably use someone else. I don't think we need a big company (with big company overhead) for this work.

I filled out a form online to get an estimate for interior painting and they responded right away. Scheduling was easy and they came right away. BUT. The guy just walked around our house, "measuring" with his feet b/c he didn't have a tape, and then just said "$7,000" for the estimate. Not including paint! He was my first estimate and said that he was so confidant about his prices that he'd undercut and licensed competitor by 10%. Well, he was the highest by about $4,000! he called me the next day and said he had "new prices" and could do it for "$6,500." and then i told him the estimates i got from a licensed competitor and he hung up on me! I would never do business with them. He obviously was just trying to get as much money out of me as possible.

Company came out to do an estimate when they said they would, and I was able to schedule the work right away (as I was happy with the estimate). They were able to schedule around some work I was having done on the floors in the same area. The first day, the crew was only one person (Melvin), which was a little surprising given the amount of work to be done. He put in about a 12-hour day. The next day there was a second painter, and they finished that day. The overall quality of the work was excellent, and Melvin was very personable. As Spanish was his first language, communication was a little challenging at times, but he worked hard to understand what I wanted and there were no problems. He was very careful to put drop sheets down to protect the newly refinished floors. I'd used the company before for outside work and was maybe even more pleased with the inside work. Some of it had to do with the exact crew I ended up with, but this was the second good experience I had.

I liked the estimator that had come to price the job as he was thorough and knowledgeable. The workers worked from 7AM to 6PM both days. They were super fast and respected my property. They were careful with my plants and trees. They had called before coming out to confirm the appointment. The workers were pleasant and Spanish speaking. The only thing I could have done differently was to include the sanding in the estimate as there was no sanding at all done. I assumed it was automatically included with the job. The price was very reasonable and I would call them again.
Description of Work: They pressure washed the entire house and painted exterior trim that included the dormers and windows. They also painted the deck completely. There was prep work that did not include sanding. The job took 2 days with a crew of men. I purchased the paint separately.

Manager came to my house at the expected date and time to provide me with a quote, and kindly & patiently answered my many questions about the job and the contract details. Painting crew was timely, polite, thorough, and quick. Full job completed in 1.5 days. Cost was reasonable. I'm generally happy with the quality of their work, though some of my hardwood floors were misted with tiny paint spatters afterwards (comes up with fingernail-scraping). I don't think their drop-cloths completely covered the floor. Not a big deal though. Overall I'm very satisfied and will use them again.

This is one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a contractor. Their estimate for materials (paid separately) was $400-600. Actual cost ended up being $1600. Job did not start when promised. Company personnel never showed when scheduled (if at all). After job was finished, there were still unpainted areas and cracked/missing caulk. After 3 call-backs, job was still not completed. ''Full tarp coverage'' was promised, but there is paint on my yard, my deck, light fixtures, etc. Staff was rude or non-responsive. Angry and harassing phone messages were left on my voice mail. Letters and complaints to company were not acknowledged. Owner of company never answered any complaint. Sales staff and production staff ignored phone calls. I have posted several times on Angies List. This is my first negative posting. Again, I'd stay away from this one. I certainly question the value of their ''warranty'' based on experience to date. I can only imagine I'll have continued problems with them.

THESE GUYS ARE UNRELIABLE AND UNTRUTHFUL. THEY DID NOT DO CAREFUL WORK. Reps. came to the house, looked at the work and gave us what we thought was a reasonable estimate. Crew used high power washer to ''scrape'' loose paint off of old cedar shingles. This left gouges in many areas. After prep work, paint was sprayed on. Paint began peeling in appro. 3 months. University claimed the problem was not with the paint or their work, but was OUR fault because the shingles had absorbed water. They claimed they could tell this by analyzing paint chips. (Couldn't they have done this before starting the job?) Ultimately, they agreed to do a test patch (hand scraped and hand painted) to see if it would hold - which it did. But when it came time (after arguing for 3 yrs) to schedule time to redo the entire house, they refused to do it. I am pursuing them through a State complaints process.
