Mike's Landscaping Supplies

I was restoring my front lawn after having it dug up to replace a sewer line. I spoke to Mike's on the phone and they suggested that a mix of 2 parts of topsoil & 1 part of leafgro so I ordered it. When they delivered it it was not mixed and they dumped it. I had my lawn guy manually mix, distribute, and rake the mixture with peat moss, gypsum, lime, and fresh seed onto the lawn and watered it but the seed germinated poorly--only about 10%. The 'topsoil' had very little organic matter in it and tended to clump up like clay--it was not friable like good quality topsoil. Also when some in the wheelbarrow got wet it formed an almost whitish mortar-like substance as it dried. After two weeks it was clear that this topsoil was defective and the job had to be re-done. This time I purchased bagged topsoil and mixed and distributed it exactly the same way and in days the seed sprouted. Within two weeks the lawn had completely filled in. I contacted Mikes several times to complain and see if they'd refund or credit a portion of what I spent but they seemed more interested in blaming me for the problem than acknowledging that the topsoil was not as represented. I've dealt with this company successfully in the past and even recommended them to others for mulch purchases and deliveries, but after this experience will not use or recommend them again.
