My furnace died on a Saturday. I had a service policy with another company, had to wait 6 hours for the service tech to arrive. I needed to buy a new furnace. The salesman told me that it would be 4 to 5 days, or maybe a week before the new furnace could be installed. The weather was cold, my house was freezing and miserable. I wasnt' very happy with the service from the other company anyway. So, I looked on Angies List and decided to call Arundal Cooling and Heating. They were friendly and lovely on the phone. I explained the situation to Lynn and asked if Arundal could do better than a week for an installation and she told me that they could. The salesman, Henry came to my house within a few hours. He was knowledgable and a real gentleman. The furnace was installed the next day!!! The installers were neat and tidy, very professional and nice. One was Kevin, but I'm afraid I didn't get the name of the other man. I'm thrilled to have a new company to work with and feel confident that they will meet my heating and cooling needs. THANK YOU, ARUNDAL! It is wonderful to know that customer service is still important to some companies.
Description of Work: I needed a new gas furnace installed.

I called them in the late morning. They took the information/symptoms and sent an experienced person in the afternoon. The pro looked things overe toroughly, made a suggestion to not replace anything, but let him see if he could find the blockage. He did and opened up the system. he also noticed that i was a little low on freon and gave me a shot of that. he was very sincere, thouoghtful, and thorough. He was actually very honest as to what was needed and i fell he did a great job.
Description of Work: I had an issue with the system producing way too much moisture. They quickly realized I had a blockage in the system that was creating a freeze due to a freon leak. They fixed and gave me a freon shot as well. It was very professional, and i think i got the better end of the deal.

When I called for an appointment I asked if they had someone who understood AquaTherm heating systems from First Company who could also flush out my water heater. I needed this combination of skills because this is a rather unique system where the hot water from the water heater provides the heat for the furnace. I needed someone who knew how to bleed air out of the furnace part of the system after flushing the water heater. Arundel did have such a person, and he was also able to re-seat one of my toilets. They set up an appointment within a week of when I called them. There was a problem on the appointment day and they called to reschedule with lots of apologies. The technician arrived on time and performed all the work I needed. He was very personable and professional. I thought it cost a lot, but then again I really don't know the going rates and I needed a special set of skills and he was here for almost 3 hours. I do recommend Arundel Cooling and Heating.

Arundel Cooling & Heating came out to do a site survey prior to giving me a proposal of what needed to be done and the pricing. They showed up on the scheduled day and time. This required skills to cut an opening in the dry wall ceiling, run electrical wiring from the ceiling mounted exhaust fan to the wall mounted on/off switch. The also had to go up on the roof to install the exhust pipe/tubing through the bathroom ceiling and flat roof. There is no attic. All of this was done within a few hours and they cleaned up afterwards. The workers were very courteous and professional.
Description of Work: I own a middle of group row house in Baltimore City. This is a rental unit with the Baltimore Housing agency. Their inspector said I needed an exhaust fan in the bathroom in the master bedroom suite. Being in the middle there are no windows in the bathroom which I added a few years ago to have two full baths and make a master bedroom suite. This required electrical work and skills to run exhaust pipe through the ceiling and roof. Arundel Cooling & Heating did a site survey and told me what they would have to do which included cutting through the drywall ceiling, running electric wiring from the ceiling mounted fan unit to the electric switch and creating an opening through the ceiling and flat roof (there is no attic) for the exhaust. They showed up on the date and time they said they would, performed the installation and cleaned up afterwards. Very satisfactory work.

of what unit would serve me best. I am satisfied with the final result (except for the unmentioned internet discount) and will continue to do business with them in the future. But it was not a perfect experience. I have used this company for decades. This is the first time I have had a complaint. I should not have had to call the owner to obtain a reduction in the bill which saved Anne Arundel the expenses of an entire day of work. I also do not appreciate seeing an invoice that doesn't breakdown the cost of materials and the cost of labor.
Description of Work: The estimator was contradicted by the installer. Instead of replacing one unit and moving another to the location of the unit the installer said (contrary to the estimator) that the bracket hanging off my balcondy would easily support the new unit. This change woudl eliminate all the rewiring and re-piping of moving the old unit to another location. Yet he told me the price was the same. I called and complained and my complaint was treated respectfully and a credit was issued for not moving the second unit. The bottom line is that Anne Arundel Cooling and Heating eventually did the job correctly for a fair price. However, they did not tell me about the internet discount of $100 and also did not discuss with me the options

He asked if I had been happy with my current system, which I was other than it broke down after 22 years. Therefore he did not look around other than check the circuit panel & current unit. That was a bit disappointing. He mostly discussed the company but was hesitant about answering my question on the experience of the technicians other than they were NATE certified. Gave me some literature on the recommended unit and his proposal. After meeting with other contractors I went with someone else. There recommendations were more in line of what was best for my home. His quote was comparable with the others on the lower end unit he quoted, but apparently would not be sufficient for my home, which is why I gave a B. If he had asked more questions & discussed various options I may have pursued further.
Description of Work: Called Arundel Cooling to get a quote on a new AC and furnace. Mine went out during one of the hottest days of the summer. Henry arrived promptly and was extremely pleasant and enjoyable to talk to.

We have a contract with Blue Dot, but they weren't able to come out until Monday...we're leaving for vacation on Sunday, so that is no help. I found Arundel Cooling and Heating on Angie's List, called them and Carol answered my call. She was very kind and professional. She said someone could come out the same day and probably within an hour. Sure enough, Albert, the technician, was out in about an hour and called to let me know he was on his way. He was professional and took the time to explain everything to me and showed me how to fix the problem in the future. I am very satisfied and highly recommend this company. They charge a $99 diagnostics fee. I was not charged any additional fee, as no new parts were necessary.
Description of Work: The A/C unit wasn't working properly. It was going on and off and when it finally stayed on, it was only blowing out warm air. Apparently the unit's drain was clogged. A simple fix that he showed me how to do on my own if it should happen again.

Excellent, excellent service call by Arundel Cooling & Heating Co. This past week our A/C outside unit started making some rather funky sounds. The unit is only 7 years old, but our warranty only extended for 5 years. My wife is pregnant and due any day, and so we were quite concerned that we could have the baby without air conditioning in the house (thankfully it's been a bit cooler these past few days). We checked Angie's List and realized there were quite a few providers in the area. I read through a number of the references and decided to go with Arundel. I am SO pleased that we made this decision. My wife called yesterday to explain the problem and the slight contingency that she's due to give birth any day now. They were unbelievably understanding, offering to send someone yesterday afternoon. Our schedules didn't quite work out so we asked if they could come this morning. We were given the very first appointment of the day. Technician, David, came on time and we received a call 15 minutes before arrival. David took a look at the outside unit, immediately identified some critical problems. He then took a look downstairs and honed in on the problem even further. I had been reading several articles online about our Rheem A/C system, and I was very concerned that the compressor had gone bad and that we'd need to replace the whole unit. I read a number of online bulletin boards about how A/C repair companies will often push a new unit very quickly. This was NOT that case with Arundel whatsoever. David didn't have the needed part in his truck, but he said he wanted to make sure he could get everything done today. He asked if it would be alright for him to run to the shop and return within the hour so that he could do everything immediately. That worked for us! He came back just as described, explained each and every issue to us in detail so that we understood what he was doing. He replaced a broken wiring component, cleaned out the dirty unit and the coils associated with it, and replaced a broken water pump in the basement. The job was quick, well-done, and significantly less expensive than I was fearing. I almost never buy follow-up service plans, but I was so impressed with David's abilities and Arundel's responsiveness, that I purchased an additional 12 month warranty that covers $800 in any needed future work and includes an inspection in one year. Cost of service was roughly $630.00 including the service warranty. I highly, highly recommend Arundel Cooling & Heating Co. for any emergency situations. Great company.
Description of Work: (1) Inspection of malfunctioning A/C unit. (2) Identified problem with outside unit and inside A/C water pump. (3) Identified problem in wiring. (4) Identified dirty and problematic coils. (5) Replaced malfunctioning pump. (6) Cleaned all dirty A/C components. (7) Repaired and replaced malfunctioning wiring. (8) Explained all problems in detail and helped to make me an informed customer.

Arundel recommended the installation of Aprilaire, which addressed our zone air-conditioning problem. The installers arrived as scheduled and completed the work professionally. I recommend this company ENTHUSIASTICALLY.
Description of Work: The company added duct work as well as an upstairs thermostat and an overhead vent. The services were necessary because the home builder installed an air-conditioning system that was too small for the square footage of the house. As a result, the upstairs of the house was unbearable; no air was circulating, and I could not breathe upstairs.

You would think that a company would test a replacement condenser coil BEFORE they install it in a home. AC&H found a leak in coil of my AC unit. At first tech wanted me to by a whole new system @ $10k, even though my home/system is only 4 years old. At that point I should have thrown him out of my house and called someone else. But it was hot. I agreed to a new coil, which was under warranty (AC&H wanted $1,000 to install). Three weeks after they installed - no AC (again). I called. A new AC&H tech came out. Multiple leaks on new coil. Re-charge lasts two days. It takes two weeks to get new coil, so I have no AC on two floors of home for a week + - with temps of 107 outside. Disaster. On top of everything, I am getting attitude from service man.

We apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused but the failure of the evaporator coil falls upon the manufacturer of the product. After determining the issues with the replacement we were back on the phone with the manufacturer to order another evaporator coil. Unfortunately they need to make the coil of which there is a two week lead time. Since the evaporator coil is under warranty with Benchmark they are the only source we can use to acquire this part. If you would like to discuss this further please let me know. Have a great day! Jeffrey Greer

He had the needed part in his truck and within an hour of arrival the job was complete.

On July 12. A technician cam to the house to analyze the poor circulation of my central AC. He gave a vague oral estimate and described three possible remedies. We settled on one method and the technician said he would return that afternoon with a written estimatge. He never returned, never called and never sent an e-mail.By the way, he had no business cards.I phoned the next day and was told he had NOT promised to return to the house, but told his office he had e-mailed me the estimate. It was never sent. I asked the office assistant to send me an e-mail. It is now four days later; no e-mail, no estimage, no phone calls, no explanation no nothing. Not only would I NOT recommend this company,, I urge it be dropped from Angie's List as unprofessional and irresponsible. Kenneth Freed

After researching this issue we did find that the email went out on the date we specified. With any electronic form of communication there is always the chance of information getting caught up in spam filters. Speaking with the estimator we see that all has been worked out as you received the 2nd email and your job is scheduled for the 30th of the month. I paid for a checkup of my aging air conditioner. A young service technician arrived and performed an initial checkup then advised me that the system needed the coils cleaned and the freon charged. I accepted his increase in cost for both, although I was uncertain why a $60 checkup would not also include a coil cleaning. He also expressed concern about the electronics and manipulated the wiring. Soon the system stopped working at all. The compressor wold come on but without having been commanded. The young technician left the apartment on a few occasions to talk with a more senior technician on his cell phone. After more manipulation of the wiring the system stopped working altogether. Not long after he indicated that the job was more difficult than understood and said a level 2 technician would be at my home. The system was not functional at that time. The second level 2 technician arrived and when he switched power to the system there was a kind of short and the system began to smoke. The technician indicated that a relay was welded together and a new one needed. It was also clear that my thermostat had been burned and no longer worked. The technician offered to replace it with one of their own and I agreed. Initially he discussed charging me $200+ for the thermostat. I was not agreeable to that. I had a perfectly working thermostat when they arrived and now I had a damaged one that would not work and was not going to pay for a new thermostat. The story then changed to I would be provided the thermostat at no cost but that they did not want to replace my more expensive Honeywell thermostat and I agreed to accept theirs in exchange. The next day another LvL 2 tech came with the relay part and immediately saw that there was 120volts on the 24 volt regulation line. He also saw that the main board was burned. Another appointment was scheduled for that day and yet another technician came to examine the remains of my once functioning heat pump. I had also asked the same company to quote me a new system That estimator was to arrive the day before I left for Italy on vacation. The last technician seemed to imply that my system had spontaneously self destructed, having chosen that 30 minute timeframe from its long life. I did not discuss my concern with him as he seemed to be on a damage control mission. My feeling was that I would see how they handled the situation for me.The estimator met with me and left with a task to provide me an estimate via email and that they could install a system while I was away. The estimate came in much much higher than a similar estimate I had obtained one year prior and so I requested an update from both companies with options. A couple of days later I received the estimates and the old contractor from the prior year was still about a thousand dollars less than the company that had wiped out my system and from which I expected consideration. So I contracted with the older company and let Arundel Heating and Cooling know that they would not receive the sale.Upon my return from Italy I received a bill from Arundel cooling for level 2 repair with thermostat installation for 189 dollars, which I do not intend to pay. In fact I plan to file a complaint with the better business bureau for a combination of poor quality work and egregiously bad business behavior. Essentially I already paid them more than 200 dollars to destroy my old system, which was admittedly not going to last many more years (which is why I did not sue in small claims court), and now I am to pay them for replacing the one relatively new part of my system (just 5 years old) the thermostat? The second company provided a thermostat and so I am happy to return Arundel Cooling and Heatings unit.
Description of Work: * System checkup * Freon recharge * Coil cleaning * The service also apparently included destruction of the electrical system

Overall, this was one of the best customer service experiences of my life! My AC has been broken for at least 3 weeks and I dealt with another business who, after 3 visits for the same thing, just fell off the face of the earth. I emailed a few other companies and Arundel Cooling was the first to respond. I spoke to a woman I'll call J, who went above and beyond to help me out and work around my insane schedule. She was always polite, always called back and always had answers. Even though Arundel Cooling didn't work with my home warranty company, J filed the paperwork for me and made the whole process so painless. The men who came out to replace the unit were polite, fast and efficient. I really could not have asked for a better experience. As long as I live in Maryland, there is no one else I would call for my heating/cooling needs. I can't say enough good things about J and Arundel Cooling, and I would recommend them to anyone. If you don't call these people, you're doing it wrong.

My a/c unit died on one of the hotter days so far this year. This has been a yearly occurrence for us since buying this house three years ago, and I have previously been charged "through the teeth" to replace a blown fuse, etc. When I called the company and mentioned that I had three small children at home with me, the wonderfully kind woman worked her magic and sent someone out a few hours later! Darren, the technician looked at our unit, and within a few minutes asked me if this had happened to us a few times already. I was surprised that he was able to see that right away, and he explained that the previous folks had just changed the fuses, and hadn't bothered to actually look into the wiring to find out what was causing the short. He had the ac unit back up and running within twenty minutes after finding a wire tucked in the back, where the casing was worn away and the exposed wiring touching metal kept blowing the fuses. He changed the wire and left me with the old one for us to see. At this point I was expecting a bill to the tune of several hundred dollars (as I have been charged by two previous companies), and I was astonished when he handed me the invoice for $99. I cannot say enough good things about this company's responsiveness to our family's needs and the level of expertise and professionalism that Darren and the dispatcher exhibited. Thank you, thank you, thank you! And, for the record it has now been several weeks and the unit is still performing perfectly under regular use.

Since the writing of my review (below) I have been contacted by a representative (Jeff) of Arundel Cooling and Heating. The total cost for their services has refunded to me along with an apology. I believe their apology was sincere and I was informed that they have made changes in how emails are handled from customers who have concerns. I was not available for a few days to respond to their calls but Jeff left messages each day expressing their desire to apologize and to refund the money. He never once mentioned their desire that I change my review on Angie's List. He was more concerned that my original email to their company fell through the cracks. I feel that what happen was one of those things that can happen in any business and that their response once the proper person was informed was handled admirably. Previous review: Based on Angie's List reviews and a coupon, I hired Arundel Cooling and Heating to clean and tune my Central A/C for the summer season. It was also a hot week and my unit was not functioning properly and would freeze up. A technician came that Friday and "cleaned" my outside unit grid and checked out my attic unit. He said the freon level was good, my filter was good, the coils were spotless, and the system was in good working order. During the holiday weekend my system continued to freeze up and blowing warm air into the house. I contacted the emergency technician and she informed me that if my filter was good and my freon level was good that there was nothing she could do and she set up an appointment for a senior technician to come on Tuesday. Because of the heat of the weekend, the lack of air conditioning. and the inability of the weekend tech to go beyond what the previous tech had done my wife and I checked into a hotel for 3 nights. On Tuesday at about 2:00pm another technician came to the house and checked out my system a second time. He agreed it wasn't working but said he was not a senior technician and didn't know what was wrong. He called the company and they told him that a senior tech would be there in about an hour.. The senior technician did arrive within the hour and the first thing he did was check the outside unit for cleanness and the freon level. After reading the gauges he said he thought the issue was that the outside units grid had not been cleaned properly and was filthy. He told me that when he cleaned it again the gauges would show that freon needed to be added. He cleaned the grid and the freon levels did drop and he added freon to bring it to the proper levels. The system immediately started blowing cool air and now a week later the system has not frozen and continues to cool the house nicely. He only charged me for the freon and not the cleaning because he said it had not been cleaned properly the first time. I never heard back from Arundel apologizing for not doing the cleaning properly the first time and it taking 3 days to make it right. I tried to let it go but after a few days it was still bothering me. I wrote them a lengthy email expressing my dissatisfaction with their service and have still not heard a word of apology. I even told them in the email that I was not writing to gain retribution for my hotel expenses. Still, not a word. I am not a complainer and always let a company know when they have performed a good service. I feel they only hear complaints so I go out of my way to state the positive. This is a rare case for me and even though my experience was a bad one it does not dissuade me from trusting Angie's List reviews. This company only had good reviews but I guess I was the unlucky one in this encounter.
Description of Work: Cleaned the outside unit grid. Checked the attic units filter. Checked the units coils and drip pan. Eventually added freon.
