I have had the same service expert come each time because I requested him. I like knowing that I can rely on Chris and that he knows my systems.

Things were smooth. Tech showed up on time, started the work, and warned me that he would have to leave to get some parts for the flue repair (because he wasnt expecting to do it when he arrived). Even his trip out to get parts was quick! He gave me a couple of options on the drainage system rebuild, and gave me the pros and cons of the two choices.
Description of Work: Arundel rebuilt the drainage system from the humidifier which was poorly created by another company. While they were at it, the tech showed me how my flue was rusting and getting holes in it, so they replaced a section of the flue as well.

I received multiple quotes for the work to be done. Arundel Cooling and Heating was not the cheapest, but not the most expensive either. On the initial sales calls, Arundel was the only one to measure each room in the house as part of the process to size the system. The deal-maker, however, was the financing terms that they offered, which was 0 down, 15 months same as cash. (Remember that, as it comes in to play later.) I scheduled them to do the job, but it being the hottest part of the season, there was a 2-week lead time. My wife and I patiently sweated through the 2 weeks. On the day before the scheduled installation, I hadn't heard from them. I waited until after 2pm to give them a call and make sure they were coming out the next day. The girl on the other end seemed flustered as she checked and said she normally places calls at the end of the day. I thought this seemed odd, and would have expected something more proactive, but she did confirm that I was on the schedule for tomorrow, and they should be at my house by 9am. Two guys arrived before 9am the next day to start the install. They were courteous and professional. They disconnected the interior and exterior units. The outdoor unit was temporarily positioned, and the lead installer began bending metal for the interior installation. As will inevitably happen if you work with sheet metal enough, he sliced his hand open and needed to go to the emergency room. I felt bad for the guy. He said wasn't sure if he would be back, or if the company would send someone else out, but someone would call. Nothing else happened that day. The next day I waited for a call or for someone to arrive. Well after 9am (I believe it may have been closer to 10), I called the office to find out what the plan was. The woman who answered the phone said she would have to check with the operations manager. After some time she returned and told me that someone was on his way to my house. (It felt like an oversight.) About 30 minutes later someone did arrive and he told me that the guy who sliced his hand was going to be out of commission for a while, leaving the company short an install team. The one guy who was now at my house was going to try to get some miscellaneous things done until a lead installer could arrive and install in the interior. Unfortunately, the next thing that needed done was to push the refrigerant line through, which apparently required two people. So began an unknown series of techs/installers that made their way in and out of my house and my yard, filling in when they could, during the busiest part of the summer. After a total of three days, the install was complete. The install looked good, and every installer/tech I talked to had been very professional and seemed both skilled and knowledgeable. ( I have found that these are unbelievably rare traits among contractors, and I don't want to overlook this point! Hats off to the guys who came out and did the install inside what was surely a very packed schedule! ) At the end of the install we sat down to go through the paperwork, including the financing. As I went through the financing contract, the terms didn't read as I expected. I called Arundel's financing person and we had a long discussion. More than one person, including the financing person, had originally told me that I could pay nothing for 15 months, and then pay the entire principal amount at the end of the 15 months, without accruing any interest. After THIS discussion, and her getting answers to my questions from the lending bank, it turned out that the reality was that I have a 12 month period over which interest doesn't accrue, but there is a MINIMUM MONTHLY PAYMENT. There is also a concurrent 3 month deferment that I could take advantage of, but I believe it causes interest to accrue if you take advantage of it. I was able to roll with the punch, but it is not what I was sold, and not something that everyone could absorb. The short of it is that the front office had NO UNDERSTANDING of the financing products they were selling. The system has been working great, but about a week after the installation I noticed that there was a strange and sizable gash in the top back corner of the outdoor unit. It was located in a place I would have never noticed if I hadn't been going to use the hose, which was also fortunate because I discovered at that time that the spigot handle had been broken off and was missing. I soon concluded that the outdoor unit had been lowered into the spigot sometime after the first day of installation. I was concerned about the operation of the unit, and about the implications on the warranty. I was also unhappy that someone possibly did this and chose not to say anything. I wanted someone from the office to come out and take a look at the damage. This became a painful back-and-forth over phone and email, but eventually the Operation's Manager agreed to meet me at my house to take a look. When he arrived, he was very nice, and after looking at the damage he indicated that he supported my theory as well. He had brought with him a replacement handle for the spigot, but it wasn't the right size, so he returned later that weekend and replaced it with a handle that fit. He sent someone out to replace the cosmetic damage, and I received in writing that the incident would not affect the warranty in any way. The original sales guy I worked with remained my point of contact throughout the entire project. He was concerned with the progress of the project, and made sure to get the right people involved when he could. As I noted before, the installers were working under strenuous circumstances, and I did have a good feel from them about the work (the unreported gash aside.) Where the company was lacking though, was in the front office. In my experience, the finance department simply didn't know their stuff, customer communication was poor, and so was the way they initially chose to handle my issue. I would probably recommend this company to others, and I will probably use them again myself. This just didn't turn out to be the great experience I was hoping for.
Description of Work: Completely replace heat pump, both interior and exterior units, with a new, 3-ton Carrier Infinity Series, with a humidifier and UV accessories. Some electrical work at the breaker box also had to be done to bring it up to code. I also purchased an additional 10 year labor warranty go go with the base warranty.

I contacted Arundel and dealt with John Greer; a real professional. The whole experience was thoroughly done and every detail was attended to and communicated ahead of time . The installation crew was both polite and assiduous; they left no mess behind after the project was completed. We also then had them install a second hot water heater and that too was accomplished on schedule and without any complications. I cannot praise enough the professionalism of the firm and John Greer in particular. These are the folks you can depend on for a first class job.

As with there being the possibility of getting a lemon when buying a car, the same goes for a/c technicians apparently. Towards the end of the summer our a/c unit would no longer blow cold air. After doing some research and doing basic diagnostics myself, it seemed like it was simply going to be a refrigerant issue. I looked on Angies List and decided to go with Arundel Cooling and Heating Co. It was $99 to come out and check to see what the issue was. The technician seemed to be socially awkward, not really engaging in conversation other than me asking questions and taking the initiative to explain what was going on. He found that the refrigerant was basically empty and proceeded to fill it up. I asked about leaks and was told that normally there would be a separate charge to check for these things, but he decided to do this without charging and took a look inside. He used some weird device and didn't explain anything going on other than walking around downstairs laughing and mumbling to himself. I wasn't sure what was really happening and eventually he told me there was a leak but that it would be ok until next year since there would probably be only a few weeks more of hot weather. He recommend next year upgrading to a new system and taking advantage of various government rebates that he did not explain. The key thing was that he stated multiple times we should be ok until next year and that the leak was not big enough to warrant any action on our part. Of course we believed him as he is the technical expert on air conditioning units and believed he was trying to save us money. The next day coming back in the afternoon we found that the system was blowing warm air again and the outdoor unit was not cold on the insulated line going into the house as was the case before. Since it was later in the day, I called and left a message to see about the company coming back out to resolve the issue. After thinking about it we decided that we wanted to use another company who found there was a big leak and the system needed replaced; which we went ahead and did. I give Arundel Cooling credit for calling and leaving multiple messages on Monday to try to resolve the issue and based on the reviews there it seems as though we got a "lemon" this go round. I'm not sure whether we would have been charged for another technician to come out or not, but in the end it made more sense to go with a company that will do it right the first time without having to waste time and money with this one. Called up and they were able to send somebody out the next day. Quickly diagnosed the issue, a blown capacitor. Replaced the capacitor and serviced the unit. Very professional. The cost for diagnostic and servicing was slightly more expensive than other companies we've had out before, but overall I was very happy with the service and I'm willing to pay the slight premium for the prompt service.

It was fantastic! Unfortunately, we did not get back until late Sun and could not call until Mon., but they were here the next day. It was great! The technician asked me a few questions, like about the fuses, etc. It only took him a couple of minutes to figure out what was wrong, and about 15 more to fix it. He showed me the part and even though my unit is old, he had the right replacement part available. I asked him questions about alternate ways of heating and cooling, he told me some alternatives, and said to call the company to ask for brochures for more information. He also encouraged me to keep researching before making a decision. He was professional, and very quick. The price I paid was for yearly servicing. I used them before and I have not had a problem scheduling or getting help quickly in case there is a problem.
