The experience was very good. They came up with a very competitive estimate. They were able to start the work the next day or 2 days later before the next storm which was important. Everything has held up since.
Description of Work: I used B-Dry Waterproofing and Foundation Repair in my office building. They put up some sort of paper barrier on the foundation wall to keep the water out.

We are happy that B-Dry was given the opportunity to improve your business location. It's also wonderful to hear that we repaired your issue prior to the next storm event and we saved you from any additional headaches. With the large amounts of rainfall that we have seen across many of our markets, we have heard from various customers like yourself who are happy that we were able to fix their problems as well. We appreciate your kind review and hope that you spread the word to anyone that may be having similar problems such as yourself. Thanks again and please let us know if we can assist you in the future.

We had other estimates from basement waterproofing companies, and went with B-dry since their cost and solution was far less than what the other two companies recommended. We were new homeowners and were naive on wet basement issues. B-dry suggested a minimal remedy and an additional/optional remedy. We went with the minimum, but it was still a waste of time and money. Because of our well system, they were unable to install the french drain completely around the wall that was exposed to the most moisture, but they did it anyway. They cut a 6-8" trench out of the concrete, and a large hole for the sump pump. This was supposed to prevent future water from entering the basement there and keep the efflourescence of the surrounding walls at bay. The year after they installed it, we had the wettest spring on record and the pump never turned on. We tested it by pouring buckets of tap water into it, and it turned on, but never on it's own. I called B-dry to complain and look into getting it fixed or getting some of our money back and they were of no help and didn't even offer to send someone out to take a look. It is now nearly 10 years later and it has never operated on it's own, the efflourescence continues, and the only thing the sump pump is good for is as a home for Wolf Spiders and Centipedes. The french drain makes the concrete floor look uglier than it did before and the sump pump is a hole in the ground that was never needed. Around the same time, we added some flashing around the patio where rain would fall, kept gutters in good repair, and regraded around the entire house using our own manual labor. A few years later we added DryLock to all masonry walls, also did ourselves. Now we know that these were the only remedies needed to solve our problem, too bad B-dry wasn't more honest with the effectiveness of their installation and didn't suggest what we now know to be more obvious, and less costly, solutions.

[removed member name] - During the time you're describing, your B-Dry location was owned and operated by a local franchisee. For reasons you're highlighting here, the franchise was re-acquired by B-Dry corporate and now the location is locally managed under national corporate control. It's our goal to respond to a customer issue within 24 hours if possible but to have received no response is unacceptable and one of the reasons we now control that market. Dealing directly with that old franchise owner was not a pleasant experience but we want to make it right. Please contact us at 1-800-737-2379 and we will take some information and have someone come out to help with your issue. The benefit of working with a large national company is that we will always be here to make things right with regard to warranty concerns. We also have a significant local presence with a sizeable office in Baltimore to make sure you get the customer service you deserve and expect. Thank you

The service was excellent. They did a beautiful job and the entire crawlspace looks good. They crew was very attentive and I was relieved that the experience was painless. They got the work done in one day. The work has a lifetime guarantee attached to the structure.
Description of Work: We had a crack in the wall of the crawlspace. They came in and fixed the crack and then waterproofed the whole crawlspace. They removed the old paper and gravel and replaced it with new gravel and liner. They also installed a new sump pump with a battery back-up.

The service was excellent. They had outstanding responsiveness. They were always available if we ever had a problem. We had a problem at 11:00 at night one night, and the president Brian Corban came right over and addressed the issue. They were extremely good to work with. I worked with the engineer, Richard, and the president, and the both of them are the finest contractors I have worked with. Richard was excellent in explaining exactly what needed to be done. They did work beyond what was required to make sure everything was done correctly.
Description of Work: They did two things for us. They waterproofed the basement and also did a walk-out basement for us. These were both larger projects.

Very poor service and response to customer needs once the bill is paid....avoid this company
Description of Work: After completing the installation of french drain system, sump pump, and wall waterproofing, team left without plugging in the sump pump. First storm and basement flooded. The response of B-Dry to their mistake is appalling. They claimed I "unplugged" the sump pump, accused me of "trying to get over" and insinuated that I was a "liar." Though I now have a dry basement, I would not recommend using their services. I strongly suggest using another basement waterproofing company.

[member name removed] incident was unfortunate and we sympathize with her but we didn't cause her issue. We never accused her of "trying to get over" and we certainly did not call her a liar; truth be told we don't know how her cord became unplugged. There is no doubt that the cord to the customer's newly installed pump was unplugged and the resulting flood caused damage to her property. I believe we were called by the customer's insurance company to pay for the damages and a servpro bill. We let them know that the pump was Plugged in when we left and sent them the completion form [member name removed] signed stating that the pump was Plugged in and we had demonstrated that it was working by cycling it on/off 3 times. We only submitted what the customer had signed and never called her a liar and if she felt that it was ever implied then we apologize. At the end of the day, we just weren't responsible for the pump being unplugged and we don't know how it happened. We are pleased that [member name removed] basement remains dry as a result of our installation and hope that she is enjoying her reclaimed space; other than this incident she was a wonderful customer and we enjoyed performing the work for her.

I had water in my basement and the reason why I went with them is because Dateline recommended them. They did excellent work at a very reasonable price. They cleaned up well. I haven’t had any water since they did the job 2-3 years ago. They are absolutely trustworthy and they offer a lifetime guarantee for the house so if I do sell the home it will go to the next owner.

This is the second time I've used B-Dry, since I decided to do the basement in stages. This second time as as good an experience as the first. The salesperson was courteous and efficient. The price was reasonable for the work being done. Scheduling was efficiently taken care of, and the two young men who came to do the work were courteous. They completed the job in the time estimated. Since then we've had a few occasions of soaking rain, which would have resulted in water, but so far I haven't noticed anything. There is a chance I might need to have one other small area done, but everything B-Dry has done so far has been first quality and very effective. I recommend them highly.

Work leader very polite, professional. Displayed good management practises with employees. My only complaint is more plastic sheeting should have been used and while the work was being performed the homeowner should be instructed and asked to view several measured points of completion. The company should incorporate a vacuum means/method of capturing dust.

Representative Aaron Fagan visited me and was 2 hours late, I did not mind as he called and seemed to be a pleasant person. I told him I had broken my left foot in the previous storm in my basement and was anxious to have my cellar waterproofed. I also mentioned that a friend had told me she had just installed a water based, not battery, backup and loved it and I really wanted that also. He told me he had never heard of such a thing and said the backup systems were electric marine batteries. I purchased the new system and the backup system from him Corporate called before the job started and said it would probably take 1-3 days. . When the crew arrived foreman told me 'they would be finished by the end of the day before even looking at the job' It sounded like they were working hard as there was a lot of noise and I had no idea they did all the cutting etc inside and there would be such a mess, but could have accepted that, if that had been all that happened. When the job was so called completed he said he needed me to do a walkthrough. I saw many things and he would just yell for one of the men to fix it. Truth is I could hear him yelling at his men most of the day but figured it was none of my business. There were hundreds of rocks everywhere, but again he yelled at the men and he said it would all be fixed. He said he and I needed to go upstairs and sign papers. I pointed out that in my contract they were to fix a place from 12 years ago that never worked and he said it was a place hard to get to and he put cement on it and told me that cement lasts forever, I told him that had been done many times before and it DID NOT last. He just said it was in a difficult place and I should talk to my salesman about it. Then he informed me that I had to get an electrician to put another line in that basement room, as NO extension cords could be used in the sump pump. That is the same sump pump that B-Dry put in and plugged into an extension chord in my home 12 years ago. But now they said it was my responsibility to hire someone to do so. NOT before the job but afterwards - I did and paid an electrician $209.00 to put in the chord. Chris assured me that his men had cleaned up all the places I had shown him and they all left. It took me just a few minutes to go out to the porch, please remember my foot is broken, and find a filthy carpet (as they had not removed the plastic when they had me downstairs as yet) with cigarette butts on it, which made me livid. That was terrible but what happened next is TOTALLY UNFORGIVEABLE. I went down the stairs to see if they truly had cleaned up at least the major part of the mess and found I could not turn on my lamp at the base of the stairs, making me more than a little bit afraid, again remember I have a broken foot. They had unplugged my lamp to use for something else and did NOT replug my only source of light upon entering the basement. Fate was kind to me as I still had a hurricane lamp there because of the recent storms when we lost power etc and thru the grace of God I reached over and turned it on. Less than 6 inches from the door (the only way to get into the cellar) was a 6 ft long pipe they had left there which I would have fallen over if I had taken even one step. For the first time in my life I stood and shook, like a frightened child, as I broke my foot in that basement and just missed jettison over that old pipe that had taken out of the sump pump and replaced it with a new one and just left the old one laying in front of the only entrance door. I admit to crying like a baby, the thought of being thrown on that concrete floor when I had not even begun to heal from my previous injury scared me beyond belief. I went upstairs and since it was already late on a Friday night I waited till morning to call the salesman and let him know. He showed no interest in me or my problems and told me to call a man named Maurice. After leaving many messages for Maurice he sent a man down to look at all the horrible problems and the hideous mess they had left me, four days later. The man's name was Alvin and he seemed to be a decent fellow and very polite. I don't know for sure what he told B-dry but he agreed with me about all the problems and carried out the largest pieces of debris, left all over my cellar, he noticed right away that they had ruined my entrance upstairs carpet and it was still full of stones etc. I told Alvin I wanted the place in my contract fixed and he said he did not have equipment with him to fix it. Again if you only knew how frightened I was of this mess, with a broken foot and 3 broken ribs that were healing from a previous fall. Alvin was polite and I reported that to his boss, Maurice. I was determined to have that piece fixed as it stated in my contract and when I called Maurice again it was days before he answered. When he did answer he told me to call Jason, the man to whom this email is going. The next day I hobbled downstairs again to see if everything looked all right and to my horror water was not coming in the floor it was coming from the upstairs as they had broken a pipe near my kitchen sink from where they put up the white material on the walls. Jason sent James down to look at it and a few more things, like the carpet etc. James agreed that the pipe cracked under the pressure of the panel, but said I have an older home and it might have broken in time anyway. I admit to having an older home, but was very distressed to see the mess coming from the pipe and unable to use my kitchen sink. He told me I had to hire a plumber and get it fixed. Both times when I asked your people whom I should hire they said they were not allowed to suggest anyone and they do not do electric work or plumbing. I hired a plumber and paid him $313.00 to fix the pipe. The plumber agreed that the pipes are old but may have lasted for years if the panel had not been jammed into it. James and I looked around and found left over bottles of soda etc that the men had left there and a trowel. James took them with him and that type of thing would not have bothered me, but the major things really bothered me, as in my opinion they put my life in danger. YOU DON'T LEAVE A 6 FOOT POLE AT THE BOTTOM OF SOMEONE'S STEPS YOU JUST DON'T DO THAT TYPE OF THING. James was also a pleasant person and also agreed with me about all the shabby work that had been done. Again I can't speak to what your people told their bosses, but they all told me I was right and were very polite men, both Alvin and James. James also fixed the part that Chris had said was hard to reach and he did it in minutes. Now I called Jason several more times to find out about having my carpet cleaned. My neighbors were livid saying it should be replaced, but I would be happy to have it cleaned, if that would take care of the problem. Because of all of this I called DISCOVER card and had them put a stop on my payment until all the problems got resolved. Jason, again did not return my calls for a couple of days and when corporate called me again to find out why I stopped payment they sent Jason an email and CC me in on it and he called me and emailed me the attached email. I had already told this story to Jason but he asked that I send it to him, so I have taken a great deal of my time, yet again, to co-operate and all the times I had to go up and down steps with a broken foot waiting on his people to show up and clean up their major messes. Again they left me with huge amount of dirt and dust from their entire digging etc and I had to throw many things away as they were ruined from the mess. However I had the area they told me to clear completely cleared before they came in the first place as they asked me to. However I had no idea they would do the cutting etc on the other side where I stored much of the stuff that had been moved and make such a mess. I was always told good contractors do their cutting etc outside of the home, not inside, and it was a beautiful sunny day. But again I could have handled that mess and dust, dirt, but not the major mistakes they had made. From the beginning I also asked for a manual for the new battery backup and everyone said they did NOT have one. I have no idea how to operate it and they promised to get me one. James did finally bring one on your last visit but it does NOT match my battery backup. I also thought James was a polite and hard workingman and have nothing but good opinions of him and Alvin. I chose the carpet cleaner suggested by Jason in this email and a pleasant young man came and said it was almost impossible to clean as it was still full of the mini rocks and debris, especially on the steps and hidden under the carpet. He left after one visit and said I would have to call B-Dry and see if they could come back another day and try to get the embedded mess from my carpet with a special piece of equipment that he would bring the next day. I called Jason Bernstein and he said ok. The young man asked me why I did not insist on having a new carpet installed as they had done such damage to my existing one but the young man did the best he could and it looks ok, not good, but ok. Jason Bernstein told me that this company had done some work for him and did a good job, however the company told me that Jason had worked for them for years, which again did not bother me as long as the job got done. I'm so afraid that if the job they did is anywhere near the horrible mistakes they made that I will be calling and calling and never get any answers in the future. They only really started answering me when I put a stop payment on my Discover card. The people who called from your corporate offices were very polite and tried to help me, but even they told me they had a hard time getting thru on the phone and that is when they finally emailed Jason for me.
Description of Work: waterproof 1/2 of my basement to prevent flooding and put in a battery backup in case electricity goes out. We just had a 6 hr electrical outage and the backup did NOT turn on. On the following page is the exact thing I sent to them, per their request. It was a nightmare and I still do not have the manual for the battery backup and I don't believe any of it works. We have no had a strong enough amount of rain. I never have a problem until we get more than 2 inches of rain and that has not happend so far. But I do know the backup did not turn on when we lost electricity this month. Read below as it is exactly what I sent to BDry and have stopped payment on the job until I can find out if it works and get the manual for the backup generator. It was the worse experience of workmanship I've ever seen in my life. I took pictures of the horrible mess they made to my basement. Updated from member via email on 2.18.2012 - Jason, I received a manual today Feb 17, 2012 that I have been asking for since Nov 4th 2011. However it is a manual on how to install the battery backup with NOTHING in it about the usage or which button/s to push when the alarm goes off etc. I had already talked to you about the power outage we had for more than 6 hrs and it did not go on. Again this is not a USER MANUAL - it is a construction manual for installation with NO information for the user or its use. Please send me the User/customer manual not a manual on how to install it underground. thank you.

The representative came in, looked at our basement and talked up his system over the competition. Showed us a big book of references, and pictures and all the systems they removed that "didn't work." He seemed impatient and critical of any other method than his. He gave us a verbal price, but no written quote. "Just call the office; we always have some specials going on." Not very professional. Don't think I would have gone with his company. We wound up having to use someone our builder chose.

He was excellent. The explanation was very to the point and he spent a lot of time with me answering questions. He was very knowledgeable and honest. He gave me choices about what work I wanted done.

We purchased the house in 2003 and one of the selling points was that our basement was protected by B-Dry. On Sept. 8th our basement was flooded due to the 10" of rain in a 2 hour period with no power. When we gutted the basement that is when we discovered the poor work (and lack of work) performed by B-Dry. We had B-Dry come out (which they were 30 minutes late with no phone call) and even the tech could not understand why the water proofing system was not installed throughout the perimeter of the basement, areas that were installed were incorrect, as well as only 3 I-beams were installed not 5. The 3 I-beams that were installed were too short and were not connected to the joints of the house which cause additional bulging of the walls. He said he would contact his supervisor (Marcus) and they would get back to us in a couple of days with a solution. After a week of not hearing from B-dry we called to try and reach Marcus. The call center said he would give us a call back. It took Maurice 3 days to return the call (after we left more messages for him) and he still had no answer for us. A day later (another message was left) he finally called us and said we would have to talk to his supervisor (Steve) and he would not be in town for another 3 days. 6 days later we called again because we did not hear from anyone and finally received a return call from Maurice saying that the only thing they were willing to do was install the additional 2 I-beams and finish the waterproofing. He said he would only complete the work from the original contract and not help fix any of the damage caused by poor and incomplete workmanship provided by their company. According to the structural engineer (that we hired) the beams that they installed incorrectly would have to come out and additional beams would need to be put in place. I have tried to call B-dry since the last conversation with Maurice to inform him of the findings and it has been 7 days and we still have not received a return call.
Description of Work: In 1991, the previous home owner paid for the waterproofing system as well as 5 I-beams were to be installed to protect the basement walls from early signs of bulging.

This waterproofing system and foundation was installed in 1991 by the franchisee in the market by industry standards. Since then there have been multiple owners and who knows how many renovations in those 20 years. B-Dry can not be responsible for what a previous homeowner may done during those years to the home. B-Dry is willing to uphold the warranty that was passed on to the member and possibly some upgrades to the waterproofing system if that is what is needed. The foundation repair however is an issue that is not warranted by us for the simple fact that franchisee's only offered limited warranties on those, which were only warranted by the franchise. But in the spirit of good customer service we are willing the make sure that what the member has on their original contract is what they have in their home, at no charge. We are not willing to pay any monies towards anyone else taking care of what B-Dry is willing to handle.

Andy was late for the appointment and claimed that he misread the time on his schedule, even though it looked very clear to me (he showed it to me). He wanted to start with the sales presentation instead of looking at the actual area where water was coming in, but he agreed to look at it first when I said that that's what I thought we should do. He measured the problem area (water seeping through cinder block wall during heavy rains) and looked at a storm drain outside that backed up on occasion. Then he whipped out a moisture meter and proceeded to lay it on the floor to check for water under the slab. The needle moved and it beeped and he exclaimed that there was a LOT of water activity. He let me see it for a second and then whisked it away. When I asked to see the name of the meter, he again let me look for a second or two, then put it away and said it was a type of meter that was "very hard to get" and said that "hardly anyone has these". Of course, I looked it up later and found the website where anyone can buy them. There were also some listed on eBay. Next, he launched into his sales pitch. This consisted of showing me a huge, bulging binder full of tattered pages of drawings, letters from customers, ads, and many, many references to B-Dry was shown to be a trustyworthy, reliable company in a sting on Dateline (tv show)---which turned out to be about one salesman and one job. Not exactly a scientific sampling. There was some stuff about being on a reality TV show, too- Extreme Makeovers, or something. All of this was presented with him flipping the pages as fast as he could and never giving me time to really look at any of it. My impression was that he was trying to push me into signing. The clincher was when he said that all their employees "were born here". When I asked what difference it made where someone was born, he mumbled something about speaking the language, and when I asked why that made a difference (having hired plenty of hardworking, foreign-born people whose English wasn't great, and having hired plenty of slackers born here whose English wasn't much better). He didn't have an answer. I told him that I found his comment offensive. No response. No apology. He tried to push me into signing after all that. When I told him I would have to think about it and that I still had a couple of other waterproofers scheduled to look at the job, he told me about a discount they were suddenly offering if I signed by the end of the week. I said I would still have to think about it. He told me he'd call in a few days. I never heard from him again. Maybe B-Dry is a decent company. If so, this guy is not a good representative and he definitely dissuaded me from using B-Dry or from recommending them at all.
Description of Work: Andy from B-Dry gave me a sales pitch and estimate for waterproofing about 25' of wall in the lower level of my split level house.

Dear Member, I do greatly apologize for your experience with Andy, he is usually one of the most polite and enthusiastic consultants we have. Most of the time I am reading about how well he did and how pleasant he was to work with, he must have been having an off day. Andy has been doing this with B-Dry for about 16 years now and prides himself on being the best he can be every day. If you are willing I would like to offer to come out there myself and assess your problem and listen to your concerns, I can be reached at slocantore@bdry.com. Hope to hear from you!
