They were outstanding. They were prompt, they came on time and finished the job on time as well. They were systematic and organized in their work and they really handled my furniture with utmost care, nothing was broken. Everything went smoothly, their humor also added joy and laughter which made our job more lighter.

The movers moved two apartments into one townhouse. My overall experience was just "ok." It was the hottest day of the year and the movers were somewhat sloppy -- and I would be too if I were hauling all of that stuff around. That said, we paid quite a bit of money for the move, so I expected better. We recently had our floors done and walls painted -- the movers scratched the floors and scuffed up the walls. They also showed up 1.5 hours early even though we confirmed the time twice and they knew the freight elevator would not be available during that time frame. Although we were not charged for the resulting delays, it was annoying and inconvenient. Finally, more than one piece of furniture was scuffed up and a leg was broken off of a table. The movers did not mention this to me which I found frustrating. Moving is stressful and hard, particularly on the hottest day of the year. That said, the level of quality we received on this move was not up to par and when moving next time, I would find a company who cared a little more about our furniture and the recent renovations on our home.

We moved from our townhouse into storage for a few months before finding a new house. Metropolitan came to us through word of mouth and we had an equally great experience as our friend. They came in and did an estimate for our move and the monthly fees for storage. We selected them because they were very competitive in their pricing and also because they were referred by a friend. The move into storage went very well as they helped pack up fragile things. They were always very professional and punctual in moving us out. No damage to anything before we closed on the house, which was key. They also proved to be very reasonable in honoring their estimate as the initial move into storage took longer and required more supplies than initially thought. We agreed to a reasonable adjustment and the provided a cap amount that we would pay on the way out of storage that honored their original estimate. Very trustworthy and the conversation was an easy given the topic. The stuff all arrived out of storage in god shape - no damage as I have heard about others bad experiences. The team was prompt arriving and helping to move furniture to our liking no matter how many times we may have changed our mind. Again, very professional and helpful during the move.

They were very professional. I would highly recommend them. They also moved my piano. I would use them again. They gave a good estimate at the beginning of the process. They were punctual. They treated my furniture with care.

I would highly recommend Metropolitan not only for the excellent move they performed, but they were also the best price, beating out Gentle Giant movers by $60 an hour! When dealing with an all day move that really adds up. Jason was very responsive and honest with quoting my move. The four men who did the actual labor were very polite, efficient and strong! I would definitely call them in the future and my neighbor actually hired them for her daughter's move when she saw what a great job they did.

Five hardworking and efficient men arrived at the appointed time to move us to our new home. They worked pretty much non-stop until the work was done. They wrapped our furniture for protection which I appreciated. Only glitch was a miscommunication between the estimator and the movers. He failed to alert the movers that we had a storage unit that needed to be moved as well. Overall, a very good move and I would definitely hire them again.

Metropolitan did a terrific job for us -- moving, storage, and then delivering our furniture -- and a very heavy safe! Service was delivered with a smile (not a grimace) even when faced with carrying very heavy furniture up to the third floor of a big Victorian townhouse with high ceilings and lots of steps. We hope to not have to move again soon, but if we do, we would not hesitate to call Metropolitan again!

John, arrived a few minutes early. He briefly described the company and general services, then did a thorough review of the house and contents and after a 10 minutes review provided a detailed summary of costs. Will respond on if I will use again after move.

The move went very well. The crew was upbeat and performed extra duties cheerfully (moving items around to accommodate the arriving furniture).

I was referred to Metropolitan Moving by a friend of mine who had found them on Angies List and used their services in the past month. My friend who is extremely picky has an incredibly nice collection of art, had nothing but great things to say about their office staff and their movers. From the time I called in to schedule an estimate to the completion of the move everything went incredibly smooth. I did get a few more estimates from reputable companies that were slightly less expensive than Metropolitan, but I felt strongly about using them anyway because of the strong reputation they have with other Angies List members. The only B I gave them was on price and that was strictly based on the fact that they were not the cheapest, but it was well worth the extra money in the long run. I would highly recommend them to any family member, friend, or colleague that is looking for a truly different moving experience. All the movers were in uniform and could not have been more patient and considerate even though it was a 10 hour move. (which was actually scheduled to be an 11 hour move but they finished ahead of schedule and under budget) As a new member to Angies List I am a firm believer in the process of finding high caliber companies like Metropolitan Moving.

UPDATE, UPDATE: I chose to update my review because I was contacted by the president of Metropolitan Movers. He read this review and was horrified. He called me and assured me that he was having a talk with the estimator, Eddie. He also quickly offered to pay for damages and the roll of plastic. As the damaged, items were a result of poor packing (on our part), I did not seek anything for the damages, but I did take him up on paying me the $25 for the roll of plastic wrap. He recommended that if I did choose to use them again that I call the main number and not someone's (Eddie's) cell phone. I agreed that I would have probably gotten a better response if I had done so. The president's responsiveness and general concern for both the image of his company and the satisfaction of this customer has brought Metropolitan movers back into my good graces. I cannot rate the company as a C with that type of follow up, even if it was spawned by my Angie's list review. So my problem was more with an individual than this company. I am therefore changing my rating to reflect the latest interactions I had with them. ================================================================== Previous posting below: The service overall was middle range. I was not at all pleased with the estimator, Eddie Yaslav. He came off as slightly unprofessional and was very late for our estimate. But his estimate was the cheapest and after some back and forth he was willing to cut me a break on the travel expenses since everything was so close. Since, I was trying to make my money stretch, I went with the lowest bid. Well that turned out to be a bait and switch tactic, because even though Eddie assured me that he always over estimates, he under estimated by about $76. Which isn't a terrible estimate unless you tell me you always over estimate. I changed my move date a couple of times due to issues with other contractors finishing work at my new place. And I must say that Metropolitan Movers was very flexible and accommodating with regards to my changes. On the day of the move, they were on time (maybe five minutes or so late). I showed them around the house and walked through what was leaving and what was staying. They marked items and got right to work. The crew of three worked fairly diligently. A few times I would see them on the cell phone or chatting, but for the most part these guys were real workhorses. I do not know how they were able to carry so many items at one time! They took longer than anticipated, but I also threw in a few extras that they did not expect. For example, I had a very heavy desk that was waiting at the new home which had to go upstairs. I did tell Eddie about this when he was doing the estimate, but there is no way he could have accounted for just how heavy this desk really was without seeing it. Where I have issue with the service is the fact that 1) they damaged items and did not tell me and it would have been obvious to anyone carrying the damaged items that they were dinged or broken and 2) they charged me for materials that I did not use. When I called them about this, they NEVER returned my call. Unfortunately, my wife packed some of the china. And I came to find out that she can't pack china. Thankfully, it wasn't any of the good stuff. I packed that away myself. But the boxes were jingling from broken goods and no one mentioned a thing about it. Several wooden items got small scratches and dings in them as well. What I do know from moving several times with the help of friends, is that the occurrence of breaks and scratches on this move was almost nonexistent in comparison but more than I would have liked to have seen from a professional mover. I have nothing to compare them to other than my expectations which were high. They also put a dent in my new wood floor on the staircase when moving the heavy desk. But my biggest complaint, and the reason why I would never use them again, is the fact that I found a mostly full roll of plastic wrap at the old address. They charged me $25 for that roll. I called to tell them that I wanted credit and that I would return the roll or that one of their people should pick it up. I called Eddie three times on the matter. He never returned my call. Again, overall the crew was good, not excellent, but very good. The estimator however proved to be unprofessional and unresponsive (once paid) and I would not highly recommend Metropolitan Moving for that reason.

The job went well. They were on time and fast. They didn't damage anything.

we were given a price over the phone of $4-5 thousand dollars max to move us to Florida. The men showed up on time and after about 2 hours into the moving process they realized they would not have enough room on the one truck so they called their boss to get another truck and said it would now cost us an additional $4-5 thousand dollars!!!! Regarding the response from Metro. Moving & Storage the truth be known is I emphatically told Jeff on the phone two times that we had additional items of furniture in a storage unit in Fredericksburg VA! He would not come out to view it and that is why we needed an additional truck. The entire move cost us twice the amount because of their incompetence of now coming out to see what we had. Also the move to Florida DID NOT go without a scratch. A mirror was broken and our Grandmother clock was damaged because they did not take the additional care in knowing how to pack and protect it properly.

Great service! The estimator came out promptly, answered all my mundane questions, was friendly and provided me two different quotes based on whether or not I packed my own kitchen. When I needed boxes, they came out with them the day after I called. On the day of the move, the movers arrived early (just before 9). They moved everything (and packed the remaining items) efficiently and were finished by 2:30 that afternoon (including a 1 hour lunch break). The final price came in $200 lower than the estimate.

I couldn't be happier w/ the move. Edward,the estimator came out to my house the prior weekend and assessed my stuff. He assured us we would be an easy move. On the day of the move, 3 movers came w/ a truck. They arrived EARLY and apologized by being earlier than the appointed time! They patiently waited ( and did not charge us for the time they arrived early) while we took are of a few final details for the move. The whole move was seamless. It was no doubt challenging removing my furniture from a TH w/ tight hallways and getting my king sized mattress in one shape into my SF was no easy matter. They quickly and professionally dismantledr/einstalled the furniture as needed. Oh did I mention the final move came in an hour under estimate? Great company. Would use again and plan to refer to a coworker moving in Dec.

They had a competitive price and were able to move on the Saturday requested. 3 movers arrived at 9am promptly, surveyed the town home and started loading the truck. They took a little longer than I expected since we had put a lot of items in the basement, but to be fair the town home had 3 floors and not the most convenient way to get things to the truck in the back alley. Moving in was quicker and the guys were polite and courteous through the entire process.

Outstanding in every regard. The crew was extremely polite and courteous - thoroughly professional in every regard. They were extremely careful in moving our furniture and personal effects. I would strongly recommend Metropolitan Movers -- they are exceptional.

We have used 4 different movers in the past 13 years, and Metropolitan is the best. Eddie gave us an accurate "estimate" of the time and cost. The men showed up on time, worked efficiently and quickly, and were professional at all times. They did not leave a mark on any wall or piece of furniture, not even a nick. Our move was a huge and complicated job, and they performed exquisitely.

I only have good things to say. For the moving company that charges by the hour they were extrimly fast. Not even one thing was damages or broken in the move. I was truly impressed and I have moved many times and being in costumer service I have high standards. This guys met all of them. Will highly recommend.

I was very pleased with the service performed by Metropolitan Movers. The movers were very punctual, courteous and took extra care in packing and wrapping the furniture, TV and my many pictures. All together a very positive experience and I recommend this company to everybody wholeheartedly.

The Metropolitan crew arrived precisely at 8:30am and spent the next 5 hours wrapping everything. The furniture was carefully wrapped in protective blankets and plastic while the pictures were wrapping in white then heavy brown paper before being sealed in boxes. Moving the furniture from upstairs wasn't easy (we had some sharp turns and big items) but they did it all without making a mark on the walls. They did amazing work. They got to the condo a little before 2pm and everything really started moving quickly since they had a time deadline. Once again, everything went very smoothly except for one giant mirror that wouldn't fit in the elevator and which they HAND CARRIED up the stairs. They unloaded the final boxes and closed the doors of their truck at 4:55pm! Nothing broken, scratched or damaged...nothing..and on time too! The also had a second stop to deliver 5 pieces of furniture going to a family member and located about 20 minutes away. That 20 minutes turned into 50 minutes during rush hour but they made it and unloaded everything carefully and without any problems. The costs wound up being about 10% higher than the estimate but some of that was extra travel time. I felt that the estimate was fair and accurate. Coupled with the quality of the work, I had no problem at all with the price. I highly recommend these folks...especially Rudy and his crew. They were always courteous, very pleasant, and extra-helpful during this stressful process. My only advice when moving (especially doing a downsize) is to very carefully look at the furniture you are moving and ask yourself whether the size of the items will present a problem and whether you really need all that stuff.

Very professional, friendly, and hard working. That about covers it. The total (I don't remember the exact figure ~$3K) was more than the estimate by a couple of hundred $ but I should note that every other company I got a quote from gave the same estimate for man-hours of packing and moving, so apparently we just had more crammed in the house than was noticable - and they worked hard so the problem wasn't there either. I feel I got a good deal. Took care of the house and put a lot of effort in to figuring out how to get two cabinets into the basement (they did it!). One glass candlestick broken discovered when we unpacked - I took a picture but didn't ever bring this up to Metropolitian in the craziness of post-move so I have no idea how they would respond. Would definately consider them again as the outfit to beat (these things always sound more negative than intended - it was a good move). The 'not to exceed' quote that one other company gave me does now seem attractive, though.

The move with Metropolitan was as painless as any move could be, They were on time and very courteous. Not only did they skillfully take measures to protect the belongings they agreed to pack, but they also took special care with what we packed ourselves. AND THEY WERE UNDER BUDGET! Great company - I hope I won't' need to move again - but if I do it will be Metropolitan.

The MD apartment was a floor over a garage that could only be accessed by a spiral staircase. All the boxes and smaller items like chairs had to be carried down this circular stairway. There was also a trap door (hole) in the floor that opened so that bigger items like bookcases could pass through. The team quickly determined who would do what to keep out of each other's way and were moving items through the hole and down the stair at the same time. They were always courteous, pleasant and professional and made good time moving me out. The move into the new apt. in DC went pretty smoothly too. They slowed down a little which I understand, since it was one of those 99 degree days, but the move took an hour or 2 longer than I expected (it was still within the estimated range, though). The glass on one of my tables was broken - these things happen - but they are repairing it at no charge and will deliver it back to my new place. The team leader apologized sincerely and everything else had gone so well that I have no regrets and would hire them again. Overall would give them an A minus rating

Overall, things went very well except for the sticker shock at the end.
