They provided excellent service on my move. They also resolved an accounting issue appropriately.

They moved furniture and boxes from one location to two locations. They were very professional , punctual and polite. All our instructions were followed properly.

Metropolitan Movers did a great job, and it was well worth the money to get the full-service treatment. Soon after I called them, Eddie came out to our place to survey our stuff, and as other reviews have said, he gives you an estimate on the high end so that you're only pleasantly surprised at the final bill. He said worst case scenario, it could be $3,600, but in reality probably $3,000, and we ended up just under that. You pay for time and material used, so if you want to get some packing done ahead of time, they'll even bring you boxes (including used ones for free) and save some money on packing services. Both the packing crew and moving crew were fast, efficient, friendly, and punctual (too punctual, almost, at that hour of morning). Major pieces of furniture (dining table, bed, crib) were quickly disassembled and accurately reassembled with their own power tools. Extreme care was taken with the brand new wood floors in the new place. We did end up with a handful of the expected scuff marks on the walls in our new place from furniture and boxes scraping the sides, and two of our IKEA bookshelves wound up with puncture wounds in the back (through the flimsy cardboard panel that you tack onto the back), which the crew did point out to me on arrival (and did their best to remedy with packing tape and Sharpie). One of the movers even powered through what was clearly a regrettable dinner from the night before, doing his best to contain any olfactory damage to the restroom with ample use of lit matches and whatever deodorizing spray he could find, although unfortunately that spray turned out to be Endust and we had one heckuva slippery bathroom tile floor for a while; hey, it makes for a funny story! Would totally hire again.

I got an on-site estimate that was a price I was comfortable with after seeing all of the great reviews here. Three guys and a truck showed up early and were constantly moving. My furniture was nicely wrapped and when we got to my storage unit they packed everything up with some room to spare. To top it all of everything was done a few hours before I expected so it saved me both time and money. I have every intention of calling them back when the time comes for me to get everything out of storage into my next place.

Metropolitan movers sent a team of 5 men and two trucks to move us from our townhouse to a house. The team was very professional and polite. Could not have asked for a nicer team. They shrink-wrapped all of our furniture and did a great job. We only had a few minor dings in the furniture but it was expected given that a lot of the pieces were wood. The dings were on the bottom of the furniture and may have been due to our narrow staircase. Our estimate was pretty much right on. The men worked hard for 8 hours and the estimate was 8.5 hours. I got 4 estimates and while metropolitan wasn't the cheapest, I read their positive reviews and was certain they would do a great job. One company never even called me back with an estimate. Another had a super detailed estimate but I felt that they would be nickel and diming me. In the end, was happy with my choice and we tipped the guys well.

Brilliant! Every accolade I read on-line about this company was true. Totally professional and reliable, and a well-integrated team. I had a complex, 3-part move, mid-Summer, 2013. As an ex-project manager I thought I had it all figured out. They did it better. It seems that they have dedicated specialists for each aspect: estimates, organization, moving, storage, and each group seems dedicated to doing it right, and to excellent customer service. This started with their estimator (Ed?), and persisted with their moving crews, pleasant phone operators, warehouse managers (Robert?), everyone. As I was up till 4 am packing the night before the move, and more than a little tired, I made a mistake. They were accommodating and worked with me until I had it straightened out. I have one part of the complex move to complete, and I take comfort knowing that I will be relying on the same moving company. I hope I don?t have to move again for 20 years, but when the time comes, I?ll remember my experience with Metropolitan Moving and Storage. The process was flawless. I highly recommend them.

It was subpar. They damaged the piano during the move. I had taken a picture of the piano before they moved it and when they unloaded it it had a dent in it. They were not willing to work with us to get the piano repaired. They finally paid to have the piano repaired but it was not done to a satisfactory level. We also did not get the Angie's List discount they offered

Fairly well. Problems were: Piano had trouble getting upstairs - I felt they should have looked prior to the move. They were very late getting here by 3 hours and charged me for the time they were in a bad traffic.

These guys were fast and efficient and stayed within the estimate. I would definitely use them again.

We had to close on both houses and move out and in all on the same day. Metropolitan made the moving party a breeze. They showed up on time ( a little early in fact) and finished ahead of schedule. The men took great care in moving all of our possessions making sure everything was wrapped and secured nicely. They were quite comfortable with the delicate timing needed during the move and were insistent on making sure we were satisfied with the placement of everything at the new location. We were very satisfied with the move.

There are things that went well and things that did not go so well. I will break this down into various sections, starting from the quote. QUOTE: I contacted 4 different movers about 7-10 days before my move date with a detailed list of every furniture I had in the house and the number of boxes to be moved. 3 of which responded with quotes that came in around the same cost, I chose Metropolitan based on reviews here. Even though the number of movers they quote was lower than the rest of them. There was a few goofsin this process, like the total quote did not add up to the quoted hours number of hours and the cost per hour. I had to call them to get this correct ( really should I have?). DAY BEFORE MOVE: I did get confirmation on the number of movers and time they would be at my townhouse. DAY OF THE MOVE: Here is when things normally go wrong, things were smooth so far and I kept my fingers crossed. My wife was at the townhouse waiting for the movers while I made sure we had everthing prepared at the single family we were moving into. I was on my way to the townhouse when my wife called me that the movers were there and that there was a issue. The truck driver walked in saw the stuff and said that the truck and number of movers they had was not enough. Ah! this is exactly how things go when you are mnovign right :). I talked to the driver and he said the owner would call me. I got a call immediately from the owner ( I think his name was Dan), who wanted to address the issue and get my move taken care ( good). He arranged for a truck and 2 additonal movers and modified my per hour rate ( bad - why did I get a quote in the first place?). The movers that were there then got to work and the driver was very sarcastic. He went through the house and asked what all was moving, my wife pointed out ( we had everything color coded to go into specific areas in the new house), the dirvers remark "Is the paint going with you to" ( Really!, moving itself is stressful, do we need this sarcasm - we pay you to do a job, just do it right, keep the sarcasm to yourself). Since we just wanted the move taken care without further trouble( after a great start to the move - sarcasm :) ) we ignored the sarcastic comments. THE GOOD: The movers did not waste time. THE BAD: Lunch time of 30 min is included into your final price so, keep that in mind. I had to remind them to put the protective runners in the townhouse. They hurried through and actually forgot to move one whole closet that had packed suitcases and stuff they had to carry in garment boxes. I moved them after the move. As mentioned the boxes were color coded but we still had boxes mixed up at the destination, some of which we identified and they moved to the right location but we still had about 10-12 boxes out of about 105 boxes that were in the wrong location. They took more time than quoted. THE QUOTE WAS JUST BAD. They got it all wrong - number of trucks and the number of movers. LESSON: Do not take a quote on the phone. Have them come in to take a look at your stuff and then have them give you a quote. INITIALQUOTE : $1100 for 8 hrs @ $180 for 4 men and a truck - See an obvious math issue :). CORRECTED QUOTE: $1730 for 8 hrs @ $180 for 4 men and a truck ( I had to mention that I had an upright Piano - which was on the detailed list I sent them, that added a $100 to the quote). UPDATED QUOTE: $210 for 6 men and a truck ( on the day of the move) FINAL AMOUNT: $2017

Charlie's crew showed up on time, they were all extremely polite, very hard workers, and took care of our things. They worked very quickly and as a result, the price came in at the low end of the estimated budget. They were awesome!!!

The estimate went well. Eddie was prompt and polite. I also had several conversations with Tina in the office, and she was very helpful, putting my mind at ease. I chose the company because of their willingness to answer all my questions, and because they willingly took some things to Goodwill on the way to my new place. On moving day, they called before arriving and said their truck broke down on the beltway and they were sending a replacement truck. So they were about an hour-and-a-half late, but that worked out for me because it gave me the time to finish the last of my packing. Everything else they did was fabulous. They were careful, polite, and after a long day they even made sure that my furniture was placed exactly where I wanted it. The boxes were put in the correct rooms. There were three men and they were very efficient. They used many moving blankets to protect my things. I have a large screen TV with external speakers, a glass-top table, and nice furniture. Nothing was damaged. And, they did not mix up which things I was keeping and which were to be donated. Overall, I was very pleased, and I will use them again whenever I move.

From estimate to final close out of the job Metropolitan was professional and easy to work with. We recommended them to my parents for a large move and they were also very happy with cost and overall smoothness of the move. We will definitely use and recommend Metropolitan again in the future.

First their estimator Eddie came to do an estimate. He was polite and professional and did the estimate quickly and did a decent job explaining what services would be provided, what would be pakced, what they couldn't take, etc. He noted that he gives estimates on the high side and rarely goes over.. A few weeks later about 10 days prior to the move I requested boxes be delivered. They were delivered promptly the next day and left at my front door as requested in a neat and organized fashion.The company called me three days before the move to remind me that some guys would be coming to help pack tomorrow and that the move would be the following day. Charlie, the foreman and one other dude showed up to pack the kitchen and a few closets and big items, and set up wardrobes. The stayed for about 5 hours and did a fine job. Charlie was friendly and professional. a few problems though did arise during the move itself though: --all boxes were clearly labeled on top and I showed the crew the rooms in the new house that corresponded to the lables, but many boxes ended up in the wrong rooms. --The wardrobes were packed carelessly; shoes were stuffed into a box carelessly and several were bent and smashed. --found my record player, which was packed in it's original box marked clearly as FRAGILE and THIS END UP, DO NOT TIP OVER, placed on its side with a number of other boxes on top of it. This cracked the cover to the record player. --missing a couple of pieces of lamp and table hardware --they did a poor job of reassembling our infant's changing table -- it was wobbly. None of these problems were major, but they were annoying nonetheless. I was impressed that Justin, the general manager of the company, was very concerned, and was eager to address these issues and covered the cost of the record player cover. He was very apologetic and I think that the Company clearly really does usually provide a quality service -- I think I just had them on an off day. The final price of the move was in line with the estimate.

I had the top 6 A/L rated movers out for quotes 90 days prior to move out date.. they all seen the same house and contents!!! 1. Metropolitan movers quote= $1600.00.... actual total taxes in was $1260.00!!!!!!!!! 2. town and country quote= $1800.00 3. 495 movers quote= $2035.00 4. JK movers quote= $2640.00 5. Blake&Sons quote= $3000.00 Blake and Sons salesman spent less than 7 mins???? and I'm not joking didn't write a thing down , not even looking at the whole house and told me $3000 , didn't even ask me a question except my email addy...one couldn't make it out to quote for 2 weeks come'on???...the others all on time and all around the $1800-$2600 range with me doing all our own packing.and based on a 10,000lb estimate weight wise I chose Metropolitan based on price and good feeling I had from Eddy the salesman that came out to my house..I made 2 trips to their shop to get cartons paper and tape..all at no charge and zero issue on quantity needed either...the team showed up at 8.30am sharp...took a tour..and got to work..everything was padded and wrapped in the house..floor runners were used..off to loaded up at noon ... DONE pulling away back to the shop at 2PM !!!!!! Jose and his crew work hard , in a good mood, super polite, did what was asked with out any eye rolling and took extra care of the things that were special to our family... they never stopped for lunch..we did buy coffee/gatorade and doughnuts which did get drank and eaten....they were great great great and not one thing broke or damaged and at the end of the day they came in $400 below estimate..whats not to love about that!!! not much more I can say other than it was positively and excellent experience from handshake hello to thanks boys for the great job at the end of the move................

I was amazingly impressed with the accuracy, punctuality, speed and efficiency of the move. Working with the owners, to the estimator, to the moving staff, all work was done in a completely professional and efficient manner. I have moved with Metropolitan several times over the past few years. My first moving experience was decided by reading and assessing moving companies and services on Angie's List; all reviews proved true, and it was a seamless and stress-free experience. I have highly recommended Metropolitan to anyone I know considering a move, knowing that their service would be flawless, and their belongings taken care of and unscathed. They take their time in assessing your moving situation, down to parking limitations, elevator size and availability, building location, etc,. to provide the best possible assessment for what to expect on moving day.

I really liked that they were prompt, courteous, and professional, they gave me boxes to help me pack up my belongings. I would highly recommend them.

Metropolitan beautifully handled my move amidst troubling circumstances and they did it with exceptional care and confidentiality. I needed a substantial amount of packing done, and they managed to take care of the pack and move in 1 day as that's all the time I had. In addition to everything arriving in Gaithersburg in perfect condition, the final cost was over $300 under my estimate of $2800.00. The office staff, Geo, and his crew helped me more than they realize that day.

The movers didn't understand our instructions or labeling on the boxes. Many items ended up in the wrong place. The truck wasn't big enough to fit all of our items because they recommended one truck while two other moving companies recommended two trucks. We were given the choice of paying them above the estimate to make another trip or do it ourselves. We had already moved a lot of items ourselves and were not pleased to have to make several more trips. This could have been bad if it were not a local move (less than 10 miles).

The reason for the low grade in some areas is twofold. One was that lamp shades were places one inside the other with no protection resulting in tears in the silk lining of a couple of shades. The other was damage to the veneer of a family desk (i.e. 80 years old or so). It had been wrapped carefully and when the blanket was removed, a 1x1 inch piece of veneer was caught and ripped off. The movers saw it and said nothing. When the business called to follow up, I told of the damage. They volunteered to send out a furniture repair person - who did come and complete half of the job. He never returned to finish the repair. It does not speak well of their follow up to clients' concerns. UPDATE: soon after this review was posted, I was contacted by one of the owners of the company. He explained that the technician who came was no longer with the company and he had no idea that there was a problem. He offered to send out a new person immediately. I was not able to do this at the time because of out-of-town plans with new grand babies, but now that I am back, he is sending a furniture person this week. He asked me to send a picture of the problem area so that the repairman could be prepared and gave me his name so I know who to expect. In all fairness, the owner has been very responsive. UPDATE: The furniture repair man came at the scheduled time and took the desk drawer with him to do the repair. He returned it after an over-the-weekend repair. The work he did was excellent. No one (except perhaps a wood expert) would know that a repair was done. I am very impressed with the work that was done and so I am changing the C grades I originally gave. The owners were definitely responsive. Thank you Metropolitan and thank you, Angie. UPDATE: Actually I was so pleased by the response once the owners took care of the problem that I would use the company again. Nothing is perfect and when they were aware of the problem it was immediately addressed and professionally fixed as good a new. Thanks again.

Great experience. The moving crew was excellent. They treated our furniture and belongings with great care and they were incredibley energetic. Our original quote was for $1,000 and the end price was $650. We moved our more fragile belongings (dishes, glass ware, photos/frames), but they handled the rest. The only negative thing we can say is they arrived about an hour early, but that just meant we were able to get started and finish earlier.

Guys were great from start to finish. Very professional and courteous.

They were pretty good. The move went very well and there were no problems. On the day they showed up on time, they stuck to their estimate for the move. The only thing is I contacted them on short notice I had to go and pick up the boxes myself to be able to move normally they would deliver it, but I guess, I haven't left them enough time to be able to put it in.
